After the Divorce, My Ex-Wife Regrets It Deeply - Chapter 4
Lu Yao woke up early in the morning.
When she stirred, she was drenched in sweat as if she had just been fished out of a body of water. She propped up her forehead, feeling a splitting headache.
After a moment of recovery, she remembered she had forgotten to take her medicine the previous night. The silver lining, however, was that her nose was no longer congested; her cold seemed to be halfway cured.
Lu Yao climbed out of bed and walked to the windowsill to pull back the curtains. Perhaps because it was so early, the sky outside was still a murky gray, looking utterly drained of energy.
She slowly walked into the bathroom to wash up, then changed into heavy clothing, wrapping herself up tightly.
Just as she finished, Jiang Yunyun’s phone call came through.
“Morning,” Lu Yao said, her voice weak.
On the other end of the line, Jiang Yunyun was full of energy: “Good news! Didn’t you ask me to keep an eye out for a suitable storefront yesterday?”
Lu Yao’s eyes lit up: “There’s news already?”
Only one night had passed—was Jiang Yunyun really this fast? Lu Yao knew she had a wide network, but this was incredible.
The sound of Jiang Yunyun walking around in slippers echoed through the phone: “I posted on my Moments after I got back yesterday, and someone messaged me this morning saying a relative has a storefront for rent.”
“I’ll send you the contact info. You can ask him about the specifics.”
Lu Yao added the person on WeChat.
The profile picture was a man in a suit, looking into the camera with a confident smile—a perfect match for Lu Yao’s stereotype of a high-level corporate employee.
“Hello,” a message arrived quickly. “Miss Jiang introduced me. Are you currently looking for a storefront?”
“Yes. May I ask about the location and the rent?”
“Haha, of course.”
According to his description, the location was somewhat remote, near the outskirts, so the rent would be significantly cheaper.
The man sent Lu Yao the location pin: “I’ve already spoken to my uncle. See when you have time to head over and take a look.”
Lu Yao was free today.
She had nothing else to do and didn’t want to stay idle. She scheduled a meeting for the afternoon and began to prepare.
In the afternoon.
The taxi sped along, leaving the city center behind and driving toward the outskirts.
Lu Yao stepped out of the car and surveyed the surroundings.
This was a new district planned only a few years ago. Currently, the population was not dense, but the necessary facilities and transportation were fully developed.
Right next to the residential area was a commercial street. Although it lacked the hustle and bustle of the city center, it would become a lively place after a few years of development.
Lu Yao headed to the agreed-upon location, where the landlord was already waiting outside the shop.
Seeing Lu Yao approach, the landlord rubbed his hands together, blew a breath of warm air into his palms, and then briskly pulled up the roller shutter: “Go in and have a look. The upstairs is the living quarters. There’s a toilet and a kitchen. It’s a bit small, but just right for one person.”
Doing business downstairs and resting upstairs.
For Lu Yao, it couldn’t be more perfect.
After carefully running the numbers in her head, Lu Yao decided to choose this place. Then came the series of formalities to finalize with the landlord. Perhaps because of the nephew’s introduction, the landlord didn’t make things difficult, and his requirements were very reasonable.
Once they reached an agreement, they went to sign the lease. It was so smooth that Lu Yao felt surprised.
With the keys in her hand, Lu Yao slowly allowed her body to relax and let out a long sigh of relief.
Now, she finally had a place of her own in this city.
When she had time, she would definitely have to thank Jiang Yunyun properly. If not for her, she probably would have wasted a lot of time.
The next steps were moving her luggage over and purchasing furniture.
She also needed to buy the equipment and tools for the flower shop, such as flower stands, pots, and wrapping paper.
As for renovations, Lu Yao wasn’t considering them. Her funds were limited, and the flower business was a “slow-burn” type; it would take a long time to build up a stable base of customers.
Thinking it over, Lu Yao realized there was an endless list of things to do.
Ha.
She let out a light chuckle. Regarding the upcoming busywork, her entire body was filled with energy.
As long as she stayed busy, she wouldn’t have to worry about anything else. The suppressed pain that had been clogging her throat was almost completely ignored.
No wonder that person remained calm no matter what happened; it turned out she simply had too many things to do. Unlike Lu Yao, whose heart could only dwell on Luo Yueming, thus falling into an endless cycle of passivity.
The irony was that she only understood this now.
Jiang Yunyun came over as soon as she was free.
Lu Yao was wearing an apron and cleaning. Workers were carrying furniture inside. Jiang Yunyun couldn’t help much, so she just watched silently from the side.
Her gaze fell on Lu Yao, sensing that something was different.
During their university days, Lu Yao was very quiet, barely saying a few words all day. It seemed as though her mind hid something very important, forcing Lu Yao to focus solely on her own world, meticulously guarding her treasure.
Later, Jiang Yunyun found out: it turned out Lu Yao had someone she liked in her heart.
That person went to the same high school as Lu Yao. Lu Yao had originally wanted to get into the same university, but her grades weren’t good enough, so she had to give up.
High school is a time of youthful ignorance, where desire is easily sparked.
However, Jiang Yunyun never imagined Lu Yao would like someone for so long.
Later, due to a twist of fate, she met that person again and they even registered for marriage…
After the marriage, Lu Yao was completely immersed in Luo Yueming. Jiang Yunyun had advised her many times but eventually stopped interfering, and gradually, her contact with this close friend lessened.
Who would have thought that she would eventually hear the news of Lu Yao and Luo Yueming’s divorce.
Lu Yao’s current aura was even more tranquil. Unlike before, she seemed to have become more composed and indifferent.
“It’s quite boring, isn’t it?” Lu Yao put away the broom and walked toward Jiang Yunyun.
Jiang Yunyun wore a vibrant red lipstick, which complemented the plain and simple Lu Yao perfectly.
Jiang Yunyun was very satisfied: “It looks like your flower shop will be up and running very soon.”
“It’s still early,” Lu Yao said with a smile. “The furniture and equipment are easy to buy, but the truly important part is getting the stock. We’ll take it slow; there’s no use in rushing.”
Jiang Yunyun curled her lips into a smile, truly liking the current Lu Yao: “You should have divorced Luo Yueming a long time ago.”
Lu Yao’s relaxed smile dimmed.
Realizing she had said the wrong thing, Jiang Yunyun hurriedly changed the subject: “Didn’t you say you were going to treat me to a meal? Since your appliances are all here now, why don’t we just make something upstairs?”
Lu Yao lowered her eyes and nodded.
Having been someone’s wife for three years, cooking was a very familiar task for her.
Lu Yao didn’t want to dwell on these memories. She turned her head and suddenly spoke: “By the way, I still need to thank that friend of yours. If it weren’t for his introduction, I wouldn’t have been able to rent such a perfect place.”
At this, Jiang Yunyun became hesitant.
“He’s not exactly a friend, I just collaborated with his company before…” Jiang Yunyun struggled with how to explain.
The company the man worked for happened to be the same place where Luo Yueming worked.
