After the Divorce, I Ended Up with My Ex-Husband’s "White Moonlight" [Transmigration] - Chapter 6
Ning Qi woke up very early. Perhaps because she had spent so many years lying in a hospital bed sleeping, she found she didn’t have much desire for sleep now. Living here was quite nice; she tried her hand at tidying up the large apartment, but a glaring problem awaited her: Ning Qi didn’t know how to cook!
After searching the internet, she went downstairs to buy some rice, flour, fruit, and vegetables, along with a few packs of instant noodles. She was afraid that if she messed up the cooking, she would at least have something to eat.
“First, wash the rice,” Ning Qi read the steps online. “Then add some water and press the ‘cook’ button on the electric rice cooker.” These steps were simple enough, and she followed them one by one.
She guesstimated the water. “Since it’s porridge, it doesn’t matter if it’s a bit thin. I just don’t want it to be undercooked.” Consequently, she added a bit more water. When steam began to billow out, she let it simmer for as long as the internet suggested and then served it in a small bowl.
The appearance was no different from the porridge she usually drank. Ning Qi took a small sip. “So making porridge isn’t as hard as I imagined!”
It seemed self-sufficiency wouldn’t be an issue in the future. Satisfied, Ning Qi drank two bowls of white porridge with added sugar and headed out.
“Miss, here is the coffee you ordered.” The waitress smiled and placed the coffee steadily on the table.
“Thank you,” Ning Qi replied with a smile.
“You’re too kind!” This time, the waitress didn’t give a professional smirk but returned a very sincere smile. She thought to herself: This lady looks so beautiful when she smiles!
Having been sick for years, Ning Qi’s only perception of coffee was what Sister Mu had told her: “It’s bitter.” As for bitterness, Ning Qi felt nothing. The medicine she had taken over the years had made her somewhat numb to it.
“It’s not bad,” Ning Qi took a small sip. She could smell the strong, rich aroma. “It actually tastes quite good.” Holding her coffee, Ning Qi looked across the street. She planned to sit here for the next few days to see if she could run into Qin Shi.
Since Lu Mingze had asked Qin Shi out for a meal, the location should be the place mentioned in the novel. Ning Qi remembered it because the street name happened to be the same as the road where her hospital was located.
From the second floor of the cafe, she had a perfect view of the restaurant opposite. She couldn’t remember the exact date, so she planned to rely on luck. She could also take the opportunity to see the female lead—it was a win-win situation.
“Could the novel have changed?” Ning Qi sat in the cafe for five days without seeing Qin Shi or Lu Mingze. This time, she decided to go directly into the restaurant.
“Has it really changed?” Ning Qi actually hoped for a change. If there wasn’t one, wouldn’t she be forced to follow the path prescribed by this world? Her future would be very uncertain.
“Let’s see…” While her mind wandered, the waiter brought her food. As the waiter turned around, Ning Qi’s sharp eyes immediately spotted two people walking toward her.
It was Qin Shi! As for Lu Mingze, Ning Qi desperately wanted to ignore him.
The two sat down by the window, and Ning Qi happened to be right behind them. From Lu Mingze’s angle, he could see Ning Qi directly, but his attention was clearly fixed on the person in front of him.
Qin Shi turned to set her bag aside. Even though she didn’t look Ning Qi’s way, Ning Qi instinctively ducked her head, acting as if she were afraid of being seen. Qin Shi quickly turned back.
“What’s wrong?” Lu Mingze quickly sensed the change in the person across from him.
“Nothing.” Qin Shi picked up the menu. “I just saw an acquaintance, that’s all.”
“An acquaintance?” Lu Mingze was slightly surprised. Qin Shi had just returned; what acquaintance could she have? Unless it was someone they both knew from the past, but judging by Qin Shi’s tone and manner, she didn’t seem to be talking about those people.
Lu Mingze felt a bit uncomfortable. “Who might it be?” Before he could ask her to introduce them, Qin Shi gave a faint, meaningful smile.
“President Lu might be even more familiar with them than I am!”
Hearing this, Lu Mingze was confused about who it could be. On the other side, Ning Qi was quietly annoyed with herself. Didn’t I come here specifically to find Qin Shi? Why did I just hide from her?
I was hiding from the guy across from her, Ning Qi found an excellent excuse to comfort herself. Given Lu Mingze’s temper, if he knew Ning Qi was there looking for Qin Shi, he would definitely cause trouble for her.
The divorce wasn’t finalized yet, and she hadn’t received what she deserved. Ning Qi knew clearly that she was in a weak position. The last time the original owner’s secret photos of the female lead were exposed, Lu Mingze had resorted to domestic violence. If he found out she was in contact with Qin Shi, Ning Qi couldn’t guess what his “Dominant CEO” brain logic would do.
As a poor, powerless little thing, Ning Qi chose to endure again—but she would never let Lu Mingze live comfortably. She had it all figured out: Fellow cannon fodder of the world, why must we have known each other to meet! She was going to stop Qin Shi from falling for Lu Mingze!
This seemed a bit unfair to Qin Shi. Ning Qi had considered whether she was interfering with Qin Shi’s choice based on something that hadn’t happened yet.
She hadn’t asked for Qin Shi’s opinion, nor did she know if the ending for Qin Shi and Lu Mingze would be the same as in the book. But from any perspective, Lu Mingze was not a good lover or a good husband.
Ning Qi didn’t know if Lu Mingze lived happily ever after with the female lead after the story ended, but seeing how he treated her currently, he was absolutely not a responsible man.
Who knows what a man without a sense of responsibility would become in the future?
Ning Qi could only do her best—best to escape her own fate, and best to ensure that Qin Shi, the woman she had seen in the flesh, didn’t follow the book’s tragic script.
The first meal between the male lead and the White Moonlight was, of course, destined to go poorly. Ning Qi had seen the two of them and was now waiting for the third! Yes, the female lead just happened to be working here as a waitress.
“Sir, Sir, I’m so sorry—” Just as Ning Qi was thinking about it, she heard a panicked voice. It must be the female lead!
Two or three tables away from Ning Qi, a middle-aged man stood up angrily. His suit was covered in soup, which the female lead had accidentally spilled on him.
Yun Shu’s attention had been entirely on her “Senior.” Senior Lu had actually brought a young woman here for dinner—was that his fiancée? Or his girlfriend?
She had never seen Senior Lu look so gentle. She had thought… she had thought Senior Lu liked her! It really was just her delusion. Yun Shu apologized through her tears, while her heart secretly hoped Senior Lu would glance her way.
The middle-aged man was shaking his clothes out, but the waitress beside him just kept crying and apologizing. Ning Qi felt anxious watching them. Even if you’re just going through the motions, at least grab a napkin and wipe it! What’s the use of just standing there crying?
Luckily, another woman soon came over, roughly the same age as the female lead. She took out tissues to wipe the man down while ordering others to clean up the spill on the floor. “Sir, I am terribly sorry. How about I help you take off the jacket first? Our shop will absolutely compensate you for the loss.”
Yun Shu was still crying—a “pear blossom bathed in rain” look that stirred pity in the onlookers. The middle-aged man noticed the crowd’s attitude and was about to snap when the manager rushed over.
“Compensate?” After the manager spoke, the middle-aged man was clearly even angrier. “Your waitress has ruined my entire mood. How do you calculate that?” He was sitting across from a lady! Was a “loss of face” something that could be compensated for?
The manager saw the situation and pulled Yun Shu to apologize, but she was immersed in her own sobbing, only managing a few “I’m sorry”s here and there.
The customer was relentless, and the waitress could only cry. The manager felt a massive headache. “Rest assured, we will do our best to compensate your loss. As for her—”
The manager glanced coldly at Yun Shu and made a decision. “We will deal with this seriously. She is fired immediately; we won’t let this happen a second time.” Between a customer and a waitress, he knew how to weigh the importance.
Another waitress ran over—Ning Qi guessed it was the female lead’s best friend. She couldn’t remember the name, but the next moment she heard the girl pleading: “Manager, please! Yun Shu really needs this job right now…”
The onlookers enjoyed the drama, but Ning Qi felt no ripples in her heart. How could the female lead be fired? She only quits on her own terms! The male lead couldn’t act yet, but as expected, Ning Qi saw the “Second Male Lead” appear—and he actually had a connection to Qin Shi! Huo Yan, Qin Shi’s cousin and Lu Mingze’s best friend.
“President Huo,” the manager called out as soon as he saw him. The middle-aged man also recognized him and didn’t understand why he was intervening now.
Huo Yan frowned, looking at the tearful girl with a hint of disdain, yet still handed her a tissue. “Stop crying!”
Even the lines were exactly like the original book. Before Ning Qi could even finish sighing about how things were being resolved, she saw Lu Mingze walking over. He had finally found an excuse to go check on Yun Shu. “Huo Yan.”
“Brother Mingze,” Huo Yan greeted him. Before they could exchange pleasantries, Yun Shu stopped crying.
Her voice was extremely low: “Lu… Senior Lu…”
Lu Mingze only said briefly, “Junior Yun, you should go tidy yourself up.” He both wanted to see Yun Shu and was afraid Qin Shi would notice her.
Although it was a simple response, Yun Shu was overjoyed. Senior Lu… he still had her in his heart; he ran over the moment he heard she was in trouble.
Lu Mingze whispered something to Huo Yan, and only then did Huo Yan notice the people to the right. He walked over quickly. “Cousin.”
“Huo Yan,” Qin Shi smiled slightly. “What are you doing here?”
After that little interlude, Lu Mingze was somewhat distracted. Qin Shi and Huo Yan chatted for a while, and for a moment, no one paid him much attention. Huo Yan, however, knew about Yun Shu and had his own thoughts.
“They’ve all gone. Can you come out now?”
Qin Shi said flatly toward the seat behind her.
