After the Divorce, I Ended Up with My Ex-Husband’s "White Moonlight" [Transmigration] - Chapter 4
Eavesdropping is bad behavior. Since she had already listened and been caught by the person involved, Ning Qi could only lie flat and accept it.
Before she could speak, a figure slowly approached from the distance. It was a girl, walking quite slowly, appearing as if she were trying to confirm whether she had recognized the person correctly.
“Miss Qin?” Even after closing the distance by a few steps, the girl still sounded incredulous. She asked in a small, astonished whisper, sounding extremely unsure of herself.
Qin Shi turned around upon hearing the voice. The girl saw her more clearly now. Once certain, she asked directly, “Miss Qin, I… I was wondering if you could give me an autograph? Please?”
“I’m sorry,” Qin Shi said. “I’m not a celebrity. I don’t give out autographs.”
The girl looked disappointed, but a moment later, she smiled and said, “Miss Qin, I’m just so happy to see you.”
Ning Qi stood quietly to the side, watching the girl’s emotions shift from joy to disappointment and then back to excitement.
“Is this—” The girl finally noticed another person standing next to the goddess. Seeing that she was finally noticed, Ning Qi gave a slight smile. The next moment, the girl’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief. “Miss Qin, this person… she couldn’t be your girlfriend, could she?”
Girlfriend?
What on earth?
Ning Qi didn’t understand what she meant at first. Upon hearing this, Qin Shi shifted her gaze to Ning Qi. The girl stared even harder without blinking, her breathing becoming shallow as she waited for her goddess to respond.
“No,” Qin Shi said.
“Oh!” The girl let out a long sigh of relief. Although the girl in front of her was quite pretty, she wasn’t quite enough to match her goddess. Since she wasn’t the girlfriend—just a friend—then it didn’t matter! A car’s lights flashed, and someone inside called out, “Xiao Kui, it’s time to go!”
“Goodbye, Miss Qin.” The girl bid a reluctant farewell, and Qin Shi waved back in a friendly manner.
Ning Qi’s mind was in a bit of a muddle. The “Great Author” had only said this was a romance novel; no one had ever told her that same-sex marriage laws had been passed here!
Even Ning Qi, who had been hospitalized for a long time, knew that in the era she lived in, same-sex marriage laws were constantly being debated without resolution. She hadn’t expected them to be passed in this era.
Yes, Ning Qi had just opened her phone to do a quick search.
It turned out that when the girl at the mall earlier was shouting about “marrying the goddess,” it wasn’t just a hyperbolic expression of affection like she had assumed. “Marrying the goddess” could actually, literally, happen!
“Cough, cough.” Having realized this, Ning Qi’s heart skipped a beat, and she couldn’t help but cough twice.
“Are you okay?” Qin Shi asked with concern.
“I’m fine.” Ning Qi cleared her throat and gave a heartfelt sigh. “Miss Qin, you really are popular!”
Judging by the girl’s voice and the look in her eyes just now… sigh, she wondered how these little fans would react when they eventually found out their goddess liked the male lead?
Knowing Ning Qi was referring to the incident just now, Qin Shi said with a hint of apology, “I’m sorry. I dragged you into that just now.”
“Not at all!” Ning Qi winked and made a joke. “If I really were with Miss Qin, I’d be the one getting the better end of the deal!”
Before Ning Qi could hear Qin Shi’s response, her phone rang. She had her earphones plugged in.
As soon as she put them on, Ning Qi heard the driver’s anxious voice: “Madam, I am so sorry. There’s a problem with one of the car parts. You usually don’t go out, so this…”
At this point, Ning Qi basically understood. Ever since Mother Lu passed away, this body’s original owner had basically never left the house. Even when she finally did go out, she hadn’t bothered the family driver.
When a car sits idle for that long, it’s bound to have problems, isn’t it? Plus, she had gone out on a sudden whim today. Come to think of it, she should be lucky it didn’t break down on the road earlier; otherwise, given the distance between the villa and the city center, she definitely wouldn’t have arrived yet!
“It’s no problem,” Ning Qi comforted the driver, who kept apologizing, in a soft voice. “I can just call a taxi.”
After hanging up, she suddenly heard a voice: “I’ll give you a lift.”
Letting Qin Shi drive her? Ning Qi looked at the car and didn’t speak.
“It takes about fifteen minutes to get out of the garage, and about ten minutes to walk back the way you came.”
“What?” Ning Qi was stunned for a moment.
“The time you’ll need to actually catch a taxi,” Qin Shi explained flatly. Her gaze fell on Ning Qi’s hands, and Ning Qi understood what she meant. She had just bought so many things; no matter how she walked, it would take a significant amount of effort.
If she weren’t carrying anything, Ning Qi would have been very happy to take a walk, but with all these bags, she’d have to be out of her mind to refuse.
Qin Shi had already reopened the trunk. Ning Qi didn’t hesitate; she quickly tossed her bags inside like she was throwing away bundles, and soon all her items were in the car.
She hadn’t noticed while her attention was elsewhere, but now that she had snapped back to reality, Ning Qi realized her arms were quite sore! She really wouldn’t have been able to hold on much longer.
“Miss Qin, I’m really troubling you. Thank you!”
“You’re welcome.” Qin Shi opened the car door, and Ning Qi pulled the passenger door open at the same time and sat down.
“Fasten your seatbelt,” Qin Shi reminded her without looking away from the front.
“Okay, it’s buckled.” Relying on her limited experience of riding in cars, Ning Qi still had the awareness to use a seatbelt.
“I was just mentioning it.”
“I know.”
The car drove out of the underground garage and onto the wide road. Only then did Ning Qi realize something felt off. “Miss Qin, do you like driving yourself?” Don’t people like her usually have a driver? And Qin Shi had even brought two bodyguards when she went out today!
“Not really,” Qin Shi said, focused on the road ahead. “Only occasionally. Where are you going?”
“I—” Being asked so suddenly, Ning Qi’s mind went blank. “Let me find it on my phone.”
“I’ve only been to that place once, so I’ve forgotten a bit.”
“You don’t need to explain to me.”
Ning Qi flipped through her phone. “Miss Qin, I need to go to the Nanyuan Residential Area.”
“Okay.”
After that sentence, both fell silent. Ning Qi kept wanting to find a topic to talk about. Suddenly remembering how hurriedly Lu Mingze had left just now, she asked with a smile, “Miss Qin, don’t you want to know why that gentleman left in such a hurry?”
“Did he leave in a hurry?”
Fair enough, Ning Qi thought. Given Qin Shi’s current attitude toward Lu Mingze, she probably hadn’t noticed. That was perfect; it gave Ning Qi even more reason to tell her.
“He did!” Ning Qi said with absolute certainty. “Miss Qin, you didn’t notice?”
“I wasn’t paying much attention.”
Ning Qi didn’t know if Lu Mingze should be comforted or saddened by that statement. She said with a smile, “That gentleman left so hurriedly, there must be something very urgent.”
Qin Shi only glanced at her toward the right but didn’t ask for the reason.
Ning Qi met Qin Shi’s gaze calmly, her eyes curving into crescents. “Miss Qin, you can ask me. I’ll tell you everything I know.”
Even though it was obvious the person in front of her was acting like someone waiting to see a good show and gloating over someone’s misfortune, Qin Shi still cooperated and asked:
“Why?”
If she didn’t ask, she felt like she would be missing out on something.
