- After the Divorce, I Ended Up with My Ex-Husband’s "White Moonlight" [Transmigration]
- Chapter 3 - Perception
Ning Qi had a deep impression of the male lead’s “White Moonlight,” Qin Shi. In the early stages of the story, she was a goddess-tier figure who rejected the deep-seated affections of the male lead and resolutely went abroad. Upon returning to the country, she discovered that the male lead had a female lead by his side who looked somewhat similar to herself.
Initially, when the White Moonlight learned of the female lead’s identity, the male lead felt a flicker of worry, which soon turned into secret delight. He wanted to see if the White Moonlight would get jealous for his sake.
At first, the White Moonlight had no reaction. Later, once she realized the male lead was developing genuine feelings for the female lead—and that she herself had fallen for him—she began a series of self-destructive behaviors.
This person, much like Ning Qi herself, could be said to have made “huge” sacrifices for the love between the male and female leads, doing plenty of work to pave the way for their romance.
The shop assistant was still enthusiastically chatting with Ning Qi. Ning Qi listened with perked ears while looking at the assistant with a faint expression.
Ning Qi could guarantee that when this woman was introducing clothes to her earlier, she was absolutely not this passionate or excited! She didn’t sound like she was describing a person; she sounded like she was giving a speech on a podium.
What surprised Ning Qi most was that the people around them were listening with great interest. As fans, shouldn’t they know all this already? Ning Qi thought about it and decided it was likely deep love—their devotion to their goddess was so profound that they didn’t mind hearing her story one more time.
“Miss, don’t you think Miss Qin is exceptionally talented and beautiful?” Ning Qi smiled but said nothing, silently marveled at how powerful the White Moonlight of the original book was at this stage.
“Do you really think Miss Qin isn’t good-looking?” A girl in the hallway, who had been giggling at her phone, suddenly spoke up. Everyone around turned to look.
Was she asking her? Ning Qi glanced around, having no doubt that if she answered “no,” she wouldn’t be able to make it out of the mall’s front doors.
“She’s beautiful.” Ning Qi recalled the face from earlier. She was indeed very beautiful; the original author had spent a full thousand words describing the White Moonlight’s appearance. If she wasn’t stunning, how could she have stayed in the male lead’s heart for so many years?
“Pretty sister, you have great taste!” Satisfied with the answer, the girl skipped away, humming a song.
“Pretty sister.” Ning Qi couldn’t help but reach up and touch her own cheek, laughing inwardly. Was she just praised by one of Qin Shi’s fans?
“Miss,” the assistant said, her throat dry from talking. Only then did she remember Ning Qi was there to buy clothes. She asked with a bit of uncertainty, “Do you… still want to look at the clothes?”
Finally, her professional etiquette had returned. Just as Ning Qi was about to speak, the assistant added, “Actually, if you dropped the clothes to go chase after Miss Qin, I would totally understand.”
Ning Qi, of course, was not going to chase her. She wasn’t a fan, and she hadn’t bought her clothes yet!
“Miss, the total is 35,800 yuan.”
“Alright.” Ning Qi opened her bag and took out a card. This card was given to the male lead by Mother Lu to pass on to her; the original owner of this body had never used the money inside. However, when Ning Qi checked her bank balance and phone yesterday, she only had 2,000 yuan in total.
Based on what Aunt Zhang said, the original owner didn’t work, so that money was likely saved up from before. The card the male lead gave her in front of his mother supposedly had several hundred thousand on it. The money spent on these clothes today was less than what the original owner used to spend, but it was still a lot for the current Ning Qi.
Ning Qi pinched the thin card. Until she got her divorce settlement, it looked like she would have to be a bit thrifty.
Waiting for the elevator downstairs, Ning Qi could still hear hushed discussions nearby—all about Qin Shi.
“Ahhh! I want to marry her! Goddess, please marry me!” It was a girl. Consequently, in Ning Qi’s mind, the impression of Qin Shi gained another layer beyond being the male lead’s White Moonlight.
When she stepped out of the elevator, Ning Qi realized she was on the B1 level—the parking garage. She must have been too lost in thought. Since she was already down here, Ning Qi didn’t feel like going back up, so she sent a message to the driver asking where the car was parked.
Just after hitting send, she saw a tall man walking over from the front left. Ning Qi recognized him at a glance—it was the male lead.
The description of the male lead in The Substitute Beloved Wife of President Lu was: “A high nose bridge, thin lips, a side profile as sharp as a knife… a face one could never forget after a single glance.”
It must be said that out of that three-thousand-word description, only one sentence was correct: “A face one could never forget after a single glance.”
And how could one forget?
A bad temper, no manners, no class, emotionally unfaithful during marriage, and prone to “cold violence”—oh, right, and domestic violence! It would be strange if one could forget him after meeting him once.
It would be best if he didn’t see her; Ning Qi didn’t want to see him either. She turned to leave, but the next moment, she heard a male voice, excited and even slightly trembling: “Qin Shi? You… when did you get back?”
The male lead and the White Moonlight were meeting? Ning Qi suddenly remembered that in the original book, the first meeting between the returned White Moonlight and the male lead was indeed in an underground parking garage!
“President Lu,” Qin Shi said as she placed a gift into her car. She looked up at the newcomer. “I just got back yesterday.”
“You…” Lu Mingze squeezed out a smile. “Just call me by my name like you used to.”
“Times have changed.” Unlike Lu Mingze’s excitement, Qin Shi merely replied politely, “I heard you’ve officially taken over the Lu Corporation.” After a pause, she added, “I just heard about your mother. My condolences.”
“It’s all in the past.” As he spoke, Lu Mingze realized that he could finally talk about that painful past with composure—perhaps it was because he was looking at Qin Shi.
She was indeed the same as she was two years ago, not a single change. Seeing her really did make him forget many of his past troubles.
His heart was a mess of emotions. After a long silence, Lu Mingze said, “I started learning to manage the company after Father passed away. I’m quite proficient now.”
Qin Shi nodded and said nothing more.
“Do you have time?” Lu Mingze asked. “Can I treat you to dinner?”
“Sure,” Qin Shi agreed.
Seeing her agree so readily, Lu Mingze couldn’t help but think that perhaps she still liked him. Maybe she had rejected him back then for some unavoidable reason.
He was too young back then; his father had passed away suddenly, his mother was hospitalized, and every decision in the company fell on him. Maybe Qin Shi felt he spent too little time with her, which was why she accepted her mother’s request to go abroad for further studies. She went abroad to learn; how could he hate her for being gone for two years?
Thinking this way, Lu Mingze’s mood improved significantly. He wanted to chat more, but the words changed as they reached his lips.
“Qin Shi, call me when you’re free. It’s still my old number. I haven’t changed.”
Lu Mingze, thinking himself deeply affectionate, finished speaking with an air of triumph, only to realize Qin Shi looked troubled. “What’s wrong? Qin Shi, is there some difficulty?”
He could solve anything she mentioned. Things were different now; his capabilities had grown. As long as Qin Shi spoke, he could handle anything for her.
“I’m sorry.” Qin Shi spoke directly without much hesitation. “I don’t know your number.”
Lu Mingze: “…”
Ning Qi, watching from the side, practically wanted to shout “Bravo!” If the timing wasn’t so wrong, she would have laughed for a long time! Was this how this scene was written in the original book? She really couldn’t remember! She suddenly found this White Moonlight a bit cute—what should she do?
“It’s okay.” Lu Mingze froze for a moment before quickly pulling out a business card. Qin Shi took it. Lu Mingze then realized it wasn’t quite right and tried to take it back. “I forgot, this is a public number. I still have my old private one. Give me your phone, I’ll put it in for you!”
“No need,” Qin Shi rejected him directly. “This number is fine.” Lu Mingze wanted to say more, but in the end, his lips just twitched, and he gave up.
Ning Qi heard every word and wanted to laugh even more. She didn’t know if Qin Shi truly didn’t understand the male lead’s intent or was just pretending. If it was the former, it was only natural she couldn’t win against the female lead—she was way too “straight-edged”!
Even someone like Ning Qi, who hadn’t experienced much of the world, could see Lu Mingze’s meaning. How could she not?
If it was the latter, then Ning Qi really needed to think about it. Had Qin Shi not realized she liked the male lead yet? Or was it something else?
“Qin Shi, I’ll be going first.” Lu Mingze’s phone buzzed. He didn’t answer it; instead, he hurriedly said goodbye to Qin Shi and left.
After Lu Mingze left, Qin Shi didn’t get into her car immediately. Instead, she spoke toward a certain spot, “Can you come out now?”
Ning Qi looked left and right, finding no one else in the parking garage besides Qin Shi and herself.
Earlier, to avoid them, Ning Qi had hidden behind a pillar. Hearing this, Ning Qi slowly walked out from behind it. “I didn’t mean to eavesdrop.”
As soon as she spoke, Ning Qi realized the White Moonlight didn’t believe her. “Alright,” Ning Qi shrugged, telling the truth helplessly. “I did hear everything.”
She just wanted to see the scene. Could you imagine a real scene from a novel you read playing out in front of you and just walking away? Plus, Ning Qi wanted to see the current status between the male lead and the White Moonlight.
“It’s you.” As Ning Qi approached, Qin Shi recognized her as the person she had seen earlier that afternoon.
“Who did you think it was?” Ning Qi turned to look around; there was still no one else.
Qin Shi said nothing.
“Oh!” Without much effort, Ning Qi figured it out. Qin Shi thought she was some paparazzi taking photos.
Think about it: the newly returned goddess and the young, promising CEO standing together (though Ning Qi didn’t agree with the second description, most people in the country who didn’t know Lu Mingze’s true face would think so). If these photos got out, they would certainly cause a massive stir.
Since Qin Shi remained silent, Ning Qi took it as silent confirmation. But thinking about later in the plot, the White Moonlight would actually take the initiative to leak photos to the media to make everyone misunderstand her relationship with the male lead!
Verdict: The White Moonlight hasn’t fallen for the male lead yet. At least, for now, she hasn’t realized her own feelings.
