In the novel Young Master Lu’s Stand-in Bride, the male protagonist is portrayed as a man of profound and unwavering devotion. But what does that have to do with Ning Qi? To him, she is nothing more than cannon fodder!

Immediately upon transmigrating into the story, Ning Qi finds herself being reprimanded by the male lead. Reflecting on the tragic fate of the “discarded original wife” in the book, she decides that sitting around waiting for death is simply not her style. In these types of “Overbearing CEO” novels, the list of cannon fodder characters is long enough to fill an entire sheet of A4 paper.

Qin Shi is “Cannon Fodder Number One” the legendary White Moonlight (the protagonist’s unreachable first love).

It is a well-known trope in “Stand-in” CEO novels: the White Moonlight always returns from abroad only to realize her true love is the male lead, while the male lead—after a series of physical and emotional torments realizes his true love is actually the Stand-in.

Ning Qi decides to win over the White Moonlight first. To prevent Qin Shi from falling for the male lead, Ning Qi exhausts every trick in the book. Eventually, Ning Qi gets exactly what she wished for except she never expected to end up with a girlfriend of her own.
