After Seducing and Abandoning the Untouchable Beauty - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Hard to Handle
When Bai Yinqing entered the dormitory, his other roommates had already arrived.
The dormitory conditions at University A were famously excellent: four-person suites, loft beds with desks underneath, and a storage staircase separating the sides to provide ample private space.
The three who arrived first had already hit it off. Hearing movement at the door, they all looked over simultaneously. The balcony curtains were wide open, and Bai Yinqing stood in the mottled golden light and shadow, carrying a single-shoulder bag and pulling a suitcase, his expression indifferent.
“Man, you’re way too tall.” One of them stood up and pointed to the only empty bed. “You’re Bed No. 1, right? I’m in the bed opposite you. I’m Yuan Heyi.”
The other two roommates introduced themselves respectively:
“Hi, I’m Ke Ya, Bed No. 2.”
“I’m Bed No. 4, Yao Zhou.”
Bai Yinqing: “Bai Yinqing.”
With this simple introduction, the four in the dormitory gained some understanding of each other’s personalities.
Yuan Heyi was careless and extroverted; Ke Ya was somewhat shy and restrained during his introduction, a typical “I” (introverted) person; Yao Zhou spoke concisely and had the face of an overachiever.
Their evaluation of Bai Yinqing was unanimous—handsome, cold, and difficult to get along with.
One couldn’t blame them for thinking so. Standing over 1.9 meters tall with a deep-set, sharp-featured face, Bai Yinqing exerted an intense sense of pressure and aggression just by standing there, not to mention his habitually silent, cold expression.
Those who could get into University A were the best of the best, with plenty of pride; they wouldn’t stoop to sucking up to someone who gave them the cold shoulder. However, they weren’t going to hold a grudge just because Bai Yinqing was aloof.
Roommates were just roommates; no one ruled that you had to be best friends.
They politely exchanged social media contacts and created a dormitory group chat for future convenience.
Yuan Heyi and the others were almost done unpacking. Bai Yinqing didn’t have much luggage and finished organizing quickly. Someone had forgotten to mute their phone, and the DingTalk message notifications kept chiming.
Bai Yinqing put on his headphones to block out the external noise. He took out his laptop, opened a pre-downloaded online course, and entered study mode.
His phone screen kept lighting up on the desk. Before he could unlock it, his roommate Yuan Heyi exclaimed in surprise: “Our class has a new student mentor?”
Ke Ya asked curiously: “Who is it?”
“Yu Weinian!”
“Holy crap! It’s actually Yu Weinian!”
Yuan Heyi literally jumped out of his chair. His reaction was so big that Ke Ya found it strange: “Who is Yu Weinian?”
“You actually don’t know him? He’s an internet-celebrity level figure at University A. His family is supposedly in real estate—anyway, he’s incredibly rich… many influencers and even stars follow his social media accounts. Of course, the most important thing is—” Yuan Heyi intentionally paused for effect, “he has a very beautiful face.”
Ke Ya: “For real?”
Using “beautiful” to describe a guy might be a bit strange, but Yuan Heyi was a STEM student and couldn’t think of a more fitting adjective. He had accidentally learned about Yu Weinian while searching for news about University A during a boring summer break.
He had also accidentally seen Yu Weinian’s photo.
It was a photo featuring a collection of supercars, a screenshot from a video that had gone viral online. No man can resist a supercar, and no man can withstand the charm of a roaring engine.
Yuan Heyi had found the original video. After watching it, he couldn’t stop thinking about it for a long time and saved it to his phone’s album.
“Why would I lie to you? His cars are cool too,” Yuan Heyi said. “I saw him on Douyin before. I sent the video to the group.”
Bai Yinqing was wearing headphones and wasn’t paying attention to what his roommates were saying.
A WeChat notification popped up. His finger slipped and clicked it open; the cover of the video sent by Yuan Heyi instantly caught his attention.
The cover featured a row of extremely flashy and arrogant supercars.
Supercars have a natural attraction for men, and no man can resist their temptation. Bai Yinqing was no exception, so he clicked on the video.
In the night, a red supercar sped like a bolt of lightning through a winding, spiraling mountain road, leaving behind a brilliant and shimmering trail of exhaust fire.
Water droplets gradually appeared on the lens; it was raining. Rain made the ground slippery, testing the racer’s control and driving ability, and everyone else slowed down. Only the leading red supercar remained in a state of soaring speed.
The rain and wind made the car body sway slightly. It drove almost glued to the ground, every thrilling turn making one’s heart skip a beat. But he was at ease, as if driving a massive beast patrolling its territory, even performing a few showy drifts.
The red supercar left everyone far behind. Upon reaching the finish line, a crowd cheered while opening champagne. The driver’s side door opened, and people made way. In the rain, Yu Weinian wore a red wool shirt, almost blending in with the red supercar behind him.
Under the hazy lights of the noisy environment, the scene looked exactly like a movie, and Yu Weinian was the sole protagonist.
Someone leaned forward to light a cigarette for him. He slowly tilted his head, bit the filter, and took a drag, holding the cigarette between his long, bony fingers.
White mist curled up, making his face look shadowy and indistinct, only to be instantly scattered by the wind and rain. At the end, he suddenly looked up directly into the camera, revealing a face that was impossible to forget.
The video ended. Bai Yinqing looked at the final frozen frame. The world seemed to have a gray filter, with blurred blocks of color everywhere. Only the slender figure at the visual center was exceptionally clear.
He had seen this person today.
Bai Yinqing had an excellent memory, not to mention the other party had such a face—it was hard not to remember. But that didn’t mean he had any intention of becoming friends. On the contrary, people like that were the type he avoided most.
Yu Weinian had an air of “playing with life,” and his every move radiated blatant arrogance. Whether in friendship or otherwise, Bai Yinqing liked things that were stable, safe, and controllable—not a dangerous existence like Yu Weinian.
However, the car was decent. Bai Yinqing indifferently withdrew his gaze, exited WeChat, and continued to focus on the online course on his laptop.
He had already self-studied most of his major’s courses during the summer and had moved on to the next stage.
“So cool.” Ke Ya watched the video many times.
Yuan Heyi: “This video was a huge hit before, with over a million likes. Maybe because the popularity was too high, the platform took it down. But that didn’t stop him from gaining hundreds of thousands of followers.”
“Why would Yu Weinian come to be our student mentor?” Yao Zhou asked strangely. “We aren’t even in the same major.”
A student mentor (Dao Sheng) is a senior student who assists the counselor and helps freshmen adapt to the new university environment, usually held by a senior from the same college and major.
While Yu Weinian was technically their senior, they weren’t in the same major. Furthermore, Yu Weinian wasn’t even a student in the undergraduate department.
A knock came from the door.
They had been cleaning the dorm, so the door wasn’t locked; it was slightly ajar. Through the widening gap, half of a striking face slowly appeared: “Hello? I’m Yu Weinian, the student mentor for your class. May I come in?”
He was smiling, the corners of his eyes slightly upturned.
The person they were just discussing appeared at the dormitory door the next second. Except for Bai Yinqing, everyone stood up to greet him: “Senior, we haven’t finished tidying up… please, sit here.”
Yuan Heyi gave up his seat.
Yu Weinian stood near Bed No. 1, his gaze lightly brushing over Bai Yinqing’s desk. He nonchalantly withdrew his gaze: “No need to sit, I just came to check on you and get acquainted. I’ll be handling your class from now on.”
Yao Zhou: “Why is it you leading us, Senior?”
Even if the mentor were changed, it should be someone from the same college and major.
“Because I’m relatively free?” Yu Weinian explained, “Lin An had some family matters, and since we’re friends, I came to help out. Although we aren’t in the same college, don’t worry—the mentors have a group chat.”
“I’m very well-informed.” He winked.
An easygoing, high-visual senior makes it easy for people to let their guard down. While they chatted and exchanged names, Bai Yinqing sat in his original spot, out of place, focused on the online course on his laptop.
“The library? Our school has many libraries.”
“The international students hold their own separate events. They have many clubs and it’s quite lively. If you like, you can go check it out.”
While patiently answering the freshmen’s questions, Yu Weinian used the corner of his eye to observe.
Bai Yinqing, who hadn’t participated in the discussion at all, sat in his spot like a lone wolf, his back straight as a pine tree, his aura cold as deep water.
Yu Weinian could only see part of his cold, three-dimensional profile. However, just the profile was enough to make his blood boil.
“Senior, don’t just stand there, sit here.”
Yu Weinian didn’t refuse. As soon as he sat down, the juniors enthusiastically handed him bottled water, though it wasn’t the brand he usually drank.
“It’s fine, I’m not thirsty.” He waved the folder in his hand and took out four sheets of paper. “Fill out your basic information. You can exaggerate your height a bit, but don’t mess around with the military training uniform size column.”
“If it doesn’t fit, it’s hard to exchange later,” he kindly reminded them.
Yuan Heyi and the other two each took an information form. The remaining one was naturally for Bai Yinqing. Ke Ya originally wanted to help pass it, but Yu Weinian had already stood up, heading straight for Bai Yinqing with a clear objective.
Yu Weinian arrived near Bed No. 1 and knocked his knuckles against Bai Yinqing’s desk.
The first things to enter the field of vision were distinct, slender fingers, followed by a refined wrist bone. Bai Yinqing took off one earphone and turned his face. The clothes Yu Weinian wore today were red, just like in the video.
However, the shirt in the video was wool, while this one was a linen-silk blend.
Because of the material, the fabric clung softly to the skin, making the skin look even whiter. A long red ribbon was tied in a beautiful knot at the open collar, hanging naturally and swaying gently in the air.
“Excuse me, Student Bai,” Yu Weinian said with a businesslike attitude. “Fill out the information form, including the size for your military training uniform.”
Bai Yinqing took the form and gave a cold “thank you.”
Others might think Bai Yinqing was acting pretentious. But Yu Weinian actually loved this—he liked Bai Yinqing’s indifferent personality.
Cold and ascetic. This would give him a great sense of accomplishment during the chase and the hunt.
While Bai Yinqing was filling out the data, the online course was still playing on the computer. But Yu Weinian knew he could hear him: “Junior Bai, your handwriting is really beautiful. Have you practiced calligraphy before?”
Bai Yinqing: “Yes.”
“Isn’t that a coincidence? I’ve practiced too.” Yu Weinian watched as Bai Yinqing finished the basic information. “You’re from Jingzhou?”
“Yes.” Bai Yinqing was already getting a bit impatient.
“I thought you people from Jingzhou would definitely apply to local universities or study abroad. Hey—your birth month is so late, you just turned eighteen?” Yu Weinian chatted idly. When Bai Yinqing was about to fill in the height column, he became interested: “I bet your height is 1.92 meters.”
At this moment, Bai Yinqing suddenly tilted his head and glanced at Yu Weinian. Then he lowered his head and calmly wrote “193.5.”
“My guess was so close.” Yu Weinian showed a hint of smugness, yet found it a bit funny. Still a youngster after all, even including the .5.
Bai Yinqing could clearly see that Yu Weinian was just talking for the sake of talking. Yu Weinian guessed 192, and his writing 193.5 was indeed accurate enough—two digits were correct.
Bai Yinqing had no interest in chatting with Yu Weinian, let alone making friends. Fortunately, Yu Weinian didn’t intend to stay long; as soon as the form was finished, he reached out to take it.
When Yu Weinian took the form, his warm fingertips brushed against the thin paper and accidentally grazed Bai Yinqing’s knuckles. The small area of contact made Bai Yinqing, who was unaccustomed to physical contact, stiffen, and his gaze turned cold.
Fortunately, the contact was brief, ending the moment it began.
Yu Weinian took the form and turned back to continue chatting with the other roommates.
As soon as he sat down, he saw Bai Yinqing repeatedly wiping his fingers with a disinfectant wipe. He found it both funny and distressing.
Bai Yinqing was harder to handle than he had imagined.
“Food” is one of the things university students care about most. Yuan Heyi said: “Senior, our school has so many canteens. Which one is better? I’m afraid of picking a bad one.”
Yu Weinian rarely ate at the school canteens.
“As for canteens, the crab roe bibimbap gets a lot of praise.” Luckily, he had the experience of dating an ex at the canteen. “The East District also has a Halal canteen and specialty dishes from other provinces. If you’re interested, you can try them.”
“Crab roe bibimbap?” Yuan Heyi said expectantly, “That sounds delicious.”
The hard-to-handle straight man finished wiping his hands and put his headphones back on to study. Yu Weinian withdrew his gaze and looked at Yuan Heyi: “Is everyone free now? if you are, I’ll treat you.”
Ke Ya: “Senior, that’s too expensive for you…”
“You’ve all called me ‘Senior,’ shouldn’t I show some appreciation?” Yu Weinian checked the time. “This timing is perfect—not many people, no need to queue.”
“Are you going?”
At this point, it wasn’t appropriate to refuse. Plus, they had a good impression of this handsome and enthusiastic senior, making it even harder to decline.
The three of them stood up and got ready to head out. Bed No. 1 was near the bathroom and the door, so Yu Weinian naturally walked over to Bai Yinqing: “Junior Bai, are you free to eat together? My treat.”
“Take this chance for your dorm to get to know each other.”
Although Bai Yinqing was wearing headphones, intuition told Yu Weinian that Bai Yinqing must have heard their conversation.
Bai Yinqing: “Not free, not going.”
The atmosphere became a bit awkward. Ke Ya and the others looked at each other, and Yao Zhou spoke up to smooth things over: “Bai Yinqing still has courses to finish, so he can’t go with us. Senior, let’s do it together next time?”
Yu Weinian returned an understanding expression. In reality, neither he nor Bai Yinqing needed this high-EQ way of smoothing things over.
Yuan Heyi also pulled out a pack of cigarettes, changing the subject: “Senior, want one?”
Bai Yinqing originally had no reaction, but upon seeing Yuan Heyi’s action of pulling out a cigarette, his brow furrowed very slightly. This subtle emotional change was instantly captured by Yu Weinian.
It seemed Bai Yinqing was not only a homophobic straight man but also one who hated the smell of smoke. Yu Weinian took the chance to build his persona and declined: “Sorry, I don’t smoke.”
Yuan Heyi put the cigarettes back: “Then I won’t smoke either.”
After all the back and forth, Yu Weinian’s main goal was to create an opportunity to spend time with Bai Yinqing. Since Bai Yinqing wasn’t going, there was no need for him to continue wasting time.
Before he had walked a few steps, he suddenly pointed at his phone and took a non-existent call.
“Yeah, I’m at school.” He looked at Yuan Heyi and the others in surprise, putting on a troubled expression. “Now? But right now…”
Anyone could see he was busy. Yuan Heyi and the others hurriedly said: “It’s fine, Senior, go ahead with your business. We’ll eat together next time.”
Yu Weinian seemed somewhat reluctant, but the other side said something else, so he could only say: “Okay, I’ll be right there.”
“I’m so sorry, my senior fellow (Shixiong) is looking for me and insists I go back.” Yu Weinian looked utterly helpless. After the juniors repeatedly said it was okay, he took the chance to bring out his phone: “Let’s add each other on WeChat first? It’ll be easier to contact each other later.”
“Let’s pick a day when everyone is free to get together. My treat.”
Ke Ya and the others opened WeChat, ready to scan Yu Weinian, but found that Yu Weinian’s phone screen was on the “Scan QR Code” page. They quickly switched pages and opened their own QR codes for Yu Weinian to scan one by one.
After adding the three of them, Yu Weinian naturally moved to Bai Yinqing’s side. He leaned against the wall and lazily shook his phone screen toward Bai Yinqing.
“Student Bai?” He lowered his head slightly, revealing a section of his slender, white neck. His light amber eyes showed a hint of a smile. “Add me on WeChat.”
Bai Yinqing was expressionless. It was obvious he didn’t want to add him and was too lazy to deal with this social scene.
But in order to send the other party away as quickly as possible so he could focus on studying, he still opened his WeChat QR code page and let the other party scan.
Having achieved his goal, Yu Weinian put away his phone and left.
The moment he turned around, Bai Yinqing deleted his friend request without hesitation and returned his focus to the online course on the screen.
As soon as Yu Weinian stepped out of the elevator, he was bombarded with messages from Yuan Heyi and the others.
His social skills were superior. As long as he wanted to, he could get along with anyone.
Unfortunately, the person he truly wanted to get along with was the only one who hadn’t approved his friend request.
At night, at a party.
Under the multicolored lights of a bar, Yu Weinian was surrounded by a crowd. He leaned against a dark red patent leather chair, his legs casually crossed.
“Why on earth did you go to be a student mentor?” someone asked. “A waste of time.”
Yu Weinian: “It’s fun.”
“What’s fun? You probably took an interest in some junior and plan to use your position to ruin them,” someone joked. “Hang Yue, looks like you’ll be busy next, being Weinian’s wingman again.”
Hang Yue looked at Yu Weinian calmly: “So I hope your pursuit journey goes a bit smoother this time.”
Yu Weinian winked. They were a group of friends who had grown up together; no joke was off-limits.
A few of their childhood friends had just returned from abroad, and they were in the middle of a lively conversation. While attention was elsewhere, Hang Yue leaned toward Yu Weinian.
“How’s the progress?” Hang Yue glanced at Yu Weinian’s phone. “Added him on WeChat?”
Yu Weinian: “Halfway added.”
Hang Yue: “Halfway?”
“Yeah,” Yu Weinian said. “I added him, but he didn’t approve.”
Hang Yue: “…”
He continued, “What do you plan to do next?”
Yu Weinian picked up an empty wine glass and poured half a glass. After taking a small sip, he said: “Just wait and see.”
In a short time, Bai Yinqing had become famous throughout the college for his outstanding looks and cold personality. Many people had tried to make a move on this “flower on a high peak,” but all had returned in defeat, and the final scenes were quite ugly.
He seemed to have no idea how to spell “emotional intelligence” and never considered saving face for those who showed him kindness. People like this were either extremely stupid or extremely arrogant. That’s why he didn’t care about offending people and was too lazy to spend time dealing with them.
It wasn’t that Hang Yue doubted his friend’s charm, but Bai Yinqing was a truly tough nut to crack. Yet Yu Weinian’s look of absolute certainty made him very curious.
He propped one hand on the chair and leaned in. Yu Weinian’s face became clear under the decadent, wine-colored lights—unrestrained, lazy, and mixed with an unignorable arrogance.
Hang Yue: “So confident?”
Yu Weinian smiled but said nothing.
Hang Yue asked a different way: “How long to take him down this time?”
Yu Weinian leaned back, his thumb slowly rubbing the glass. His other elbow rested lightly on the armrest, and as if thinking, he tapped his temple with his finger.
Then, he held up one finger and tossed out a lazy sentence.
“No more than one month.”
