After Seducing and Abandoning the Untouchable Beauty - Chapter 10
Chapter 10: Truly Liking Him
In the end, Bai Yinqing still didn’t answer that question. He went to the nearest pharmacy to buy allergy medicine and watched as Yu Weinian swallowed it.
The car Bai Yinqing called arrived, and he warned Yu Weinian once more: “Stop doing these meaningless things.”
“I don’t want to have any connection with you whatsoever.”
The red marks on the skin gradually faded, but there was still a hint of moisture at the corners of Yu Weinian’s eyes. He looked at Bai Yinqing with an exceptionally aggrieved expression: “Do you really hate me that much?”
Bai Yinqing didn’t say a word; he walked straight toward the entrance. As he passed Yu Weinian, he caught a faint scent of perfume—woody notes.
It didn’t smell like the scent usually on Yu Weinian; it seemed more like something picked up from somewhere else.
The melodious, lingering music continued to play. Yu Weinian looked nonchalantly at the gift box of couple rings across from him and suddenly smiled.
It seemed Bai Yinqing… wasn’t as repulsed by him as he had imagined.
In the hospital corridor, a little boy in a hospital gown ran with a toy in his hand. His parents chased anxiously behind him but couldn’t stop the child in his high spirits.
The small figure was forced to a halt as he bumped into something. The toy dropped to the floor. He looked up blankly at a cold, expressionless face.
“So sorry, the child is too naughty. Are you alright?” A refined-looking man crouched down to hold the child, while a crisp, professional-looking woman apologized to Bai Yinqing. “Today is my child’s birthday, and he’s so happy that he’s being a bit rowdy. I’ll definitely discipline him when we get back. Dongdong, you have to say sorry when you bump into people. Hurry up and apologize to the big brother.”
Bai Yinqing looked at the child in the man’s arms. He was timid; seeing Bai Yinqing’s cold face, Dongdong was clearly terrified, but he still whispered: “Sorry, big brother.”
Naturally, Bai Yinqing wouldn’t hold a grudge against a small child. Carrying the fruit in his hand, he abruptly stopped on his way to the ward.
On the polished, cold white marble floor was the warm silhouette of a family of three. Having been educated by his parents, the little boy nodded obediently, then happily raised the robot in his hand: “Mom, Dad, I love you! I’m the luckiest kid in the whole world!”
Bai Yinqing watched this scene calmly until a nurse called him, and only then did he push open the door to the ward.
The elderly man lying on the hospital bed was pleasantly surprised to see Bai Yinqing: “Yinqing, aren’t you still in military training? How do you have time to see me?”
Bai Yinqing pressed down on the elder’s movement as he tried to sit up: “I took some time off. The nurse said you’ve been having chest tightness lately…”
“Don’t listen to the nurse’s nonsense. I’ve just been sleeping too much and I’m bored.” Bai Zhenda wasn’t concerned about that. “Are you happy at university? Have you made new friends? It was your birthday recently—did you go out to play with new friends?”
The first person Bai Yinqing thought of was actually Yu Weinian.
His mood was complicated. Looking at the old man’s expectant expression, he managed a strained “Mm.”
“You should talk to others more; don’t always keep such a cold face.” Bai Zhenda sighed. “Where are your parents? Why didn’t they come with you?”
Bai Yinqing: “They are busy.”
“Sigh, how can they be like this? Is work more important than family? They were so strict with you when you were little, and now that you’re grown, they’re like this… Forget it, let’s not talk about them.” Bai Zhenda looked at Bai Yinqing with satisfaction. “My grandson is so handsome. By the way, Grandpa’s birthday gift for you is back at the old house. I’ll give it to you when I’m discharged.”
“Happy birthday. You’re all grown up now.”
Bai Yinqing rarely received pure birthday wishes. Since childhood, the few birthday wishes he had came from his maternal grandmother and grandfather.
His parents were elites who prioritized rationality, maintaining a rigorous educational system. In their eyes, so-called birthdays and any holidays held no practical meaning—only commercial value.
Even if a birthday banquet was held, it would be draped in the skin of a business networking event. Everyone had their own hidden agendas, all for the sake of profit and schemes. Guests at the banquet came and went, yet not a single one was there for him.
Bai Yinqing showed Bai Zhenda photos from his military training and the shots of him as the freshman representative. In the photos, he wore a white shirt and black trousers, standing before the modern teaching buildings and the solemn, ancient library—the images were bright and full of youthful vigor.
The more Bai Zhenda looked, the more satisfied he became.
He hadn’t had much schooling, so he had an obsession with education. Back then, he joined the army with a surge of passion, experiencing countless bloody battles and accumulating rich military merits. When the Bai family’s prestige was at its peak, Bai Zhenda chose to step down and return to his hometown to retire.
Bai Yinqing’s parents were a business marriage. Although they had no emotional foundation, they relied on the network resources left by the older generation and their own strong career ambitions to give the family a very high level of influence in Jingzhou.
When Bai Yinqing closed the ward door, he didn’t leave the hospital immediately but went to the psychology department instead.
This was a private hospital where privacy and service were excellent. Bai Yinqing had undergone hormone level tests and related imaging exams. As the doctor was about to flip through the results for a careful exclusion, Bai Yinqing suddenly spoke.
“My medicine is finished.”
Dr. Lu, wearing glasses, was surprised: “The medicine I prescribed just last week? You’ve finished it already? That was a month’s supply…”
Bai Yinqing did not argue.
“Abusing medication like this can only quench your thirst temporarily; it’s not a long-term solution. Eventually, it will only worsen the condition,” the doctor sighed.
Bai Yinqing: “I can control it.”
If he could control it, why was he seeing a doctor, and why did he want more medicine? But Dr. Lu couldn’t say those words directly.
After spending some time together, Dr. Lu had reached a conclusion. Bai Yinqing was a patient with a very heavy psychological defense—absolutely brilliant, absolutely conceited, and holding himself to ultra-high standards, not allowing himself a single flaw.
Yet Bai Yinqing was very contradictory. On one hand, he was indeed troubled by his condition; on the other, he was unwilling to open his heart. The “seeing a doctor” part seemed to serve only a psychological purpose. It was also his means of obtaining medication.
Dr. Lu had tried to perform an in-depth analysis on Bai Yinqing. But Bai Yinqing was very smart; he could always anticipate and set linguistic traps. The treatment process was more like a game of chess between doctor and patient.
Bai Yinqing read various professional books. Dr. Lu needed to constantly analyze and speculate on his words and deeds while also preventing himself from being sucked into the psychological traps Bai Yinqing carefully laid. Sometimes, Bai Yinqing would even counter-question, using various psychological tactics in an attempt to conversely speculate, analyze, and even break down the doctor’s psychological defenses.
“Sir, if you keep hiding things from me, I can’t help you.”
“I don’t need help.”
“Alright. You were taking your medicine on time and in the right dose before. Why did you suddenly increase the dosage on your own recently? Is the pressure too much lately?”
“There is no pressure.”
Dr. Lu ticked and wrote on the paper: “No pressure, yet you have sexual impulses?”
Bai Yinqing: “Yes.”
“Very intense?”
“Yes.”
Dr. Lu recorded it on the paper. After a moment, Bai Yinqing said once more, “Very intense.”
The pen stroke paused. Dr. Lu looked up in surprise; the side effects of this type of medication usually include sexual dysfunction, yet Bai Yinqing wasn’t affected by the side effects at all—on the contrary, his libido had increased.
He quickly recorded this on the paper, then asked softly: “How has your sleep been lately?”
“I can’t sleep.”
“Can’t sleep even after taking the medicine?”
“I can’t sleep.”
“…” Bai Yinqing’s symptoms seemed to have intensified. Dr. Lu grew serious: “Mr. Bai, you may have developed a drug tolerance. In this situation, you absolutely must not abuse the medication.”
“I suggest you return for a follow-up every three weeks, and undergo an ECG, liver function, and kidney function test every six weeks to avoid organ damage from the drugs.”
Bai Yinqing: “Alright.”
Dr. Lu was already used to this robot-like dialogue. He sighed silently; he had never seen such a difficult patient. Just as he thought this session would end in failure again, Bai Yinqing actually spoke up of his own accord.
“Recently, I met a person.”
Dr. Lu’s gaze sharpened: “What kind of person?”
“He said he wants to understand me.”
“Understand you?” Dr. Lu asked, “Does he want to be your friend? Has a new friend appeared around you?”
Bai Yinqing: “Not a friend.”
“Then he wants to become your friend?”
Bai Yinqing ignored the pursuit part: “That’s what he said.”
“Oh, then that’s it. He wants to be your friend. What do you think about it?” Dr. Lu guided him. “Do you hope for this friend to appear in your life?”
“I don’t need friends,” Bai Yinqing’s tone was very flat.
“But he seems to really want to be your friend.”
“He has many friends.”
“The other party is quite popular then.”
Bai Yinqing didn’t argue; it was the truth. Dr. Lu added: “But what if he, despite being very popular, still really wants to be friends with you? He keeps pestering you, cherishes this friendship with you, and even if you don’t want to be friends with him, he still doesn’t give up.”
Bai Yinqing pondered for a moment and said calmly: “He won’t.”
In the past eighteen years, it wasn’t that Bai Yinqing hadn’t met people who wanted to be his friend. Those people approached him with motives, following their parents’ orders, yet they were afraid of him. He was naturally emotionally detached; no matter how enthusiastic the initiative was, after hitting a wall a few times, it would be extinguished without a trace.
Bai Yinqing had rejected Yu Weinian time and again. A favored child of heaven like Yu Weinian was the most proud; his sense of novelty came quickly and left just as fast. After suffering setbacks here a few times, his interest would soon fade. Afterward, he wouldn’t remember him again.
Dr. Lu: “What if he does?”
Bai Yinqing was rarely stunned, appearing as if he had never considered this possibility. He lowered his eyelids as the sunlight from outside the screen window shone in, casting an unclear shadow under his eyes. He stared at the green plant on the desk as if his mind were wandering. He wanted to say something, but in the end, said nothing.
Finally, Bai Yinqing only said: “Time is up.”
Dr. Lu knew Bai Yinqing wouldn’t reveal more information today and didn’t force it.
In the office, there was only the scratching sound of a pen.
Patient Name: Bai Yinqing Mental Status Examination: The patient is conscious, emotionally stable, has an intense and uncontrollable libido, and possesses strong self-control. Hormone levels, head CT, and kidney ultrasound showed no obvious abnormalities, excluding organic mental disorders. No contact with addictive substances, no long-term history of taking related drugs, excluding mental disorders caused by psychoactive substances… Diagnosis: Sexual Addiction…
Bai Yinqing thought Yu Weinian had given up on pestering him, but for the next two days, Yu Weinian was still diligently sending breakfast.
Every morning, when Bai Yinqing opened his dormitory door, he would see the exquisite breakfast placed there, accompanied by a card filled with caring words. It was written by Yu Weinian’s own hand.
Yao Zhou happened to be heading to the cafeteria and saw this scene with a strange expression. The most embarrassed one was Yuan Heyi. He had originally thought Yu Weinian was interested in him, only to find out Yu Weinian had his eye on his roommate… He felt inexplicably uncomfortable. He covertly surveyed Bai Yinqing for a moment, thinking he wasn’t all that special.
Compared to exaggerated, high-profile flowers, Bai Yinqing would rather Yu Weinian just send breakfast—at least the latter didn’t make him a spectacle for everyone to watch like a monkey. However, he also had no interest in eating the breakfast Yu Weinian sent.
Just as he was about to take it down to the first floor for the dorm manager, Yuan Heyi mistook it for him throwing it away and spoke up quickly: “You’re throwing it away? If you’re not eating it, why not give it to—”
Bai Yinqing suddenly turned and glanced at Yuan Heyi.
Yuan Heyi was momentarily speechless. He said: “I just think it’s a pity to throw it away; we shouldn’t waste food…”
“Then it’s yours,” Bai Yinqing said.
This was the fourth day of military training and the third day since Yu Weinian had issued his bold claim. In the blink of an eye, the “one week” progress Yu Weinian mentioned was half over, yet he didn’t seem anxious at all. It was as if the person who had confidently talked big that day wasn’t him.
In the afternoon, a flamboyant figure appeared on the playground. At this moment, Bai Yinqing was queuing to get water. The moment he finished and turned around, a clear, lazy voice sounded close to his ear, the lingering tail-end of the tone carrying a grainy texture that pierced through his eardrum into his brain.
“Good afternoon, Student Bai.”
Bai Yinqing’s pupils dilated slightly. The person he thought would never appear again had suddenly descended before him.
“You…” He paused before saying, “Why are you here?”
“I’m the orientation tutor for your class. Why can’t I be here?” Yu Weinian smiled very gently. “On the contrary, Student Bai, you seem very surprised to see me here?”
“Or rather, are you surprised—” Yu Weinian said, “that I still haven’t given up?”
Bai Yinqing was indeed surprised. He believed his attitude toward Yu Weinian had been terrible; it should be impossible for anyone to endure his coldness and distance. Yu Weinian should have been enraged by his attitude and started to loathe, resist, and stay away from him. Instead, he approached as if nothing had happened.
“Didn’t I say? I won’t give up.”
Under the shade of the trees, Yu Weinian took a step closer toward Bai Yinqing against the warm wind. He blinked slowly. “Bai Yinqing, I really like you.”
“And I only like you.”
“So whether you believe it or not, I won’t give up.”
In the midsummer day, fallen leaves circled and danced around them. The leaves made a rustling sound like the echo of a heartbeat.
After a moment, Bai Yinqing said: “I don’t like you.”
“I know,” Yu Weinian said. “Isn’t that why I’m chasing you? Student Bai, give me a chance to chase you, alright?”
Yu Weinian took out a movie ticket. His slender fingers hooked onto Bai Yinqing’s pocket, tucking the thin ticket inside.
“This is for a movie at 6:30 tonight.” He put on a very pitiful expression again. “Let’s watch a movie together?”
“Even if you don’t come, I will wait the whole time.”
After delivering the ticket, Yu Weinian turned and left.
He threw back one more sentence: “I will keep waiting until the movie is over.”
Yu Weinian seemed to have never considered the possibility that Bai Yinqing would agree.
Bai Yinqing lowered his eyelids. A corner of the movie ticket poked out from his pocket; he reached out to smooth it down, yet he could still feel the temperature and aura belonging to another person.
The movie started at 18:30. Yu Weinian arrived at the mall two hours early. He first had dinner at a restaurant, and when the time was right, he waited at the cinema entrance for Bai Yinqing.
People came and went at the cinema entrance, mostly in groups. Yu Weinian sat on a single-person sofa. Because his appearance was too superior, he attracted many side-glances along the way.
Yu Weinian was playing Mahjong on his phone, occasionally switching out to send a few WeChat messages.
—Student Bai, have you arrived? [Pitiful crying jpg.] —Everyone has someone to accompany them; I’m all alone. —I will wait for you forever, even if I can’t wait for you to come.
Back and forth, Yu Weinian grew tired of Mahjong. He uncrossed his legs and checked his WeChat messages; Bai Yinqing hadn’t replied.
It was now 18:29.
Yu Weinian looked around. Bai Yinqing was nowhere to be seen. As he expected, Bai Yinqing wasn’t coming.
He dialed a number. The other party picked up immediately, as if waiting for his call.
“Finished eating?”
“Finished.”
“OK, come watch a movie,” Yu Weinian said. “One minute—is that enough for you to come up from downstairs?”
“One minute is too rushed; give me two.” Zhu Xiangyi’s voice came through amidst some scrambling sounds. At this hour, the elevator was crowded, so he switched to the escalator. “Bai Yinqing didn’t come?”
“He didn’t,” Yu Weinian said nonchalantly, then urged: “Hurry up, the movie is starting.”
“I bought your ticket along with mine.”
“I was wondering why you’d treat me to dinner,” Zhu Xiangyi grumbled as he appeared at the cinema entrance. Yu Weinian waved to him, and he ran over quite unceremoniously. “Why do I feel like your spare tire?”
“Aren’t you?” Yu Weinian checked the theater number. “Since the tickets are already bought, it would be a pity not to watch. Besides, I quite want to see this suspense film.”
The more Zhu Xiangyi thought about it, the more annoyed he felt. “If you wanted to see it, you should have invited me separately! Since Bai Yinqing isn’t coming, I’m the substitute, huh…”
“We’ll go play golf later.”
Yu Weinian tossed a movie ticket over, plugging Zhu Xiangyi’s nagging mouth. He turned his head. “My treat tonight.”
The cinema lights were dim, faintly reflecting on Yu Weinian’s face. A small patch of light slid down from his brow and landed on the tip of his nose. There was a slight smile at the corner of his eyes, and the moving shadows made him look mysterious and high-spirited.
Zhu Xiangyi was dazed, and goosebumps rose all over his body. He couldn’t help but marvel—this face was truly impressive. Facing this face, how on earth did Bai Yinqing manage to resist? He should be given an award.
They didn’t notice that in another corner across from them, a tall figure had been watching them from the darkness the whole time.
They were about five or six meters away, with a large decoration in between, placing Bai Yinqing in a visual blind spot. Yu Weinian couldn’t see anything of Bai Yinqing, but Bai Yinqing could see everything happening on Yu Weinian’s side.
Messages popped up on his phone one by one. Besides Yu Weinian’s, the latest one was from Dr. Lu.
—I’ve brought the report. Are we meeting at the café on the fourth floor? Why don’t I see you?
Bai Yinqing stood in place, his clothes meticulously buttoned up to the top, exuding a sense of asceticism. His hair was neat and clean, appearing as if he had dressed up with care.
He watched the two of them enter the theater one after another, his face as calm as ever. Only the movie ticket in his hand had, at some point, been crumpled into a ball of waste paper, its original information no longer legible.
