- Chapter 8 - The Paranoid Villain (8) Changing Clothes
Lu Yinshen loved cleanliness and showered almost every day. Previously, when Yan Yi was not around, Lu Yinshen had been unwilling to let others help him, leaving him exhausted and disheveled after every wash.
Yan Yi, naturally, did not have a single objection. He nodded in agreement and, after confirming the location of the dressing room, retrieved two bathrobes. He turned off the television and carried Lu Yinshen into his wheelchair.
Once they reached the bathroom, Yan Yi turned on the heat lamps and started the water in the bathtub. The water flowed steadily; judging by the speed, it would take several minutes to fill.
Yan Yi’s fingertips brushed aside the shirt restraining Lu Yinshen’s body. One by one, the buttons escaped their holes. With every button undone, patches of exquisite, porcelain skin were revealed.
When there were no more fasteners to undo, Lu Yinshen’s collarbones and much of his upper body were fully exposed to Yan Yi’s dark gaze. Yan Yi’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he lowered his head and shifted his eyes away.
As his hand moved down to the waistband of the trousers, Lu Yinshen gripped his wrist. Yan Yi looked up, blinking as he gazed at him, and asked obediently, “What is it, Uncle?”
“This is enough,” Lu Yinshen replied. He did not give a reason, but Yan Yi already knew. He did not want anyone to see his scarred and broken legs.
Yan Yi’s fingers paused and moved no further. “The water is almost ready. May I carry you in, Uncle?”
This time, Lu Yinshen agreed. Yan Yi did not carry him over immediately; instead, he reached out to place a towel over the tiled edge of the tub. Only then did he lift Lu Yinshen and carry him across.
The moment they arrived, Lu Yinshen signaled to be put down. Yan Yi seated him on the edge of the tub next to the wall so he could lean back without falling. Yan Yi dipped his hand into the water to test the temperature. It was perfect, neither too hot nor too cold.
Lu Yinshen pointed to the body wash nearby. “Pass that to me.”
Yan Yi did as he was asked but remained uneasy. He stood his ground, unwilling to move even half a step away.
Lu Yinshen’s loose clothing slid halfway down to his waist. Amidst the swirling steam and mist, hints of deep red and pale white skin were visible. Yan Yi pressed his fingers down and blinked again, his expression appearing more innocent than ever.
Lu Yinshen looked at him, his phoenix eyes slightly upturned. They were a deep, vibrant crimson, like a glass of potent wine. His voice was seductive as he asked, “Is Uncle handsome?”
Yan Yi nodded honestly. “Uncle Lu is the most handsome person I have ever seen.”
At this blunt praise, the corners of Lu Yinshen’s lips curled upward. “Are you going to keep staring at me like this?”
As the mist rose to kiss his face, Lu Yinshen reached out with his fingertips. The clothing resting on his waist slid away completely.
Yan Yi immediately closed his eyes. “I promise I will not open my eyes until you are finished, Uncle.” He paused, adding with a hint of piteousness, “I am just worried about you. Please let me stay here.”
Lu Yinshen’s legs had not recovered. Yan Yi could not possibly feel at ease leaving him alone in the bathroom.
Lu Yinshen hooked a finger toward him. “Xiao Yi, come here.”
With his eyes squeezed shut, Yan Yi walked toward him. An arm warmed by the heat lamps wrapped around his neck. Yan Yi cooperatively lowered his head. A bright red tongue lightly licked his earlobe. Yan Yi’s eyelashes trembled violently, yet he did not open his eyes.
The moist, warm sensation moved to his neck. He could feel his uncle licking and nipping at his Adam’s apple. His breathing became erratic as he heard a satisfied, low chuckle. “Good boy.”
The next moment, Yan Yi felt his hand being taken by another. He was guided to the waistband of the trousers. With a gentle tug, the wide trousers loosened.
Lu Yinshen wrapped both arms tightly around Yan Yi’s shoulders. His breath was warm and his voice was a lure. “Xiao Yi is so smart. Surely you know how to take these off?”
Yan Yi’s eyelashes trembled, as did his hands. His Adam’s apple rolled forcefully. With his sight stripped away, his other senses were magnified. The heat of Lu Yinshen’s breath brushed against his jaw and lips, sending a spark deep into his core.
“I know,” Yan Yi whispered.
The soft sound of the trousers falling to the floor joined the sound of their increasingly unstable breathing. The sensation under his palms was warm and delicate, yet the protruding bones were equally prominent. The fire in his gut was replaced by heartache and pity. His breathing gradually steadied as he whispered, “I will help you.”
Mint-scented body wash was squeezed out. White foam spread from Lu Yinshen’s shoulder blades down to his ankles. Under the bathroom heat lamps and amidst the swirling steam, cushioned by the soft towel, Lu Yinshen did not feel cold. His phoenix eyes narrowed as a dark, intense light surged within them. His double pupils locked greedily onto Yan Yi’s face. He memorized every detail of that face as the blurred fragments of his memory seemed to grow clearer.
“Yinshen, you are so beautiful.”
“Yinshen, I like you. You ask how much? I like you more than anyone else in the world. I like you more than I like myself.”
“It is not childish, and I did not learn it from somewhere else. These are my own feelings. Yinshen, you are smiling. I should tell you my true thoughts more often.”
“Yinshen, the surgery will not be dangerous. After your legs are better, we will walk hand in hand. We will live together. I want to marry you.”
“Do not worry, darling. I will be with you forever.”
The memories came to an abrupt halt. As Lu Yinshen tried to focus on them, a sharp pain churned through his brain. He did not believe these memories were born of nothing. Someone must have been part of his life. No, that person had now returned. And this time, Lu Yinshen would lay a net from which there was no escape.
Water sprayed out, rinsing away the foam. A moment later, he was carefully cradled in Yan Yi’s arms and placed into the bathtub. Lu Yinshen slowly closed his eyes as a sudden, twitching pain shot through his legs. His legs were not completely useless; though they were scarred and non-functional, they could still feel pain. As his body sank into the water, his pale fingers gripped the edge of the tub with all their might.
His hand was suddenly gathered into a warm palm. Lu Yinshen kept his eyes closed, allowing his fingers to be played with one by one. Yan Yi’s dark lashes fluttered. Even without any light, he used his knowledge of Lu Yinshen and his own intuition to accurately find and hold Lu Yinshen’s hand.
He said, “Uncle, I bought some herbs online. They can be used for a foot soak, which will help your legs recover. Could we use them every night before bed?”
It was a pity the herbs would not arrive until tomorrow. Lu Yinshen’s legs had to be treated; otherwise, they would never heal. A drop of water splashed onto the floor as a faint sound of agreement came from Lu Yinshen.
Seeing that he had agreed, Yan Yi felt a sense of relief. It was one thing if Lu Yinshen did not want his legs to be seen, but it would be far worse if he resisted recovery altogether. Yan Yi counted the seconds in his head. When enough time had passed, he lifted Lu Yinshen from the tub. Once he was sure Lu Yinshen was seated securely, Yan Yi turned his back and retrieved the fresh bathrobe, handing it over with his eyes still closed.
He did not open his eyes until Lu Yinshen had finished changing. True to his word, he did not peek at Lu Yinshen’s legs during the entire process. Yan Yi wrapped his arms around Lu Yinshen’s waist, supporting him as he helped him back into the wheelchair. He then gathered the discarded clothes from the bathroom floor and placed them in the laundry basket.
The bathroom featured a dry-wet separation. Yan Yi pushed Lu Yinshen behind the frosted glass door to prevent him from getting splashed while Yan Yi took his own shower. Yan Yi crossed his arms and pulled his shirt over his head, exposing his powerful physique. Lu Yinshen watched him without blinking, his eyes locking onto him. Yan Yi did not avoid the gaze; he openly stripped and applied body wash to himself.
The scent of the soap filled the air as the white foam disappeared down the drain. Once he had changed into a bathrobe identical to Lu Yinshen’s, Yan Yi walked over and crouched down. “Uncle, I am finished.”
Lu Yinshen gave a dull hum of acknowledgment. Yan Yi did not mind the coldness. It was still a bit early for bed, so he led Lu Yinshen to the living room and turned on the television to a lively but childish cartoon.
Yan Yi asked, “Is there anything else you would like to watch, Uncle?”
During their previous time together, Lu Yinshen rarely used electronics. Usually, he would simply lie in Yan Yi’s arms and read business magazines. Lu Yinshen replied, “Whatever you like is fine.”
It was normal for a young man to enjoy cartoons. Lu Yinshen had no preference, so he was happy to watch whatever Yan Yi chose. Yan Yi nodded and sliced some watermelon and Australian navel oranges. He arranged the sweet fruit in front of Lu Yinshen. He used a bamboo skewer to offer a piece of watermelon to Lu Yinshen’s lips. Lu Yinshen stared at him for a long time before finally opening his mouth to eat.
Yan Yi looked down at Lu Yinshen’s lips, which were moistened by the fruit. He reached out and gently wiped the corner of Lu Yinshen’s mouth with his thumb. His expression was soft as he said, “You had a bit of food there.”
After a few pieces of fruit, Yan Yi stopped. Too much fruit would not be good for Lu Yinshen’s stomach. He checked the time and realized it was getting late. “Uncle, let us go rest.”
After a long pause, Lu Yinshen nodded. Yan Yi asked, “Uncle, where is my room?”
Lu Yinshen pointed toward the bedroom. Yan Yi turned off the television and pushed the wheelchair toward the adjacent rooms. He intended to see Lu Yinshen into his room, but the man took control of the wheelchair and entered on his own. Yan Yi did not get a chance to see the layout of the room.
Yan Yi said softly, “Goodnight, Uncle. Sweet dreams.”
He stood at the door for a moment before entering his own room. As he walked in, his peripheral vision caught a tiny, dark red light. Yan Yi stopped in his tracks.
It was a surveillance camera.
