- Chapter 5 - The Paranoid Villain (2) Jealousy
When Yan Yi spoke, his brow softened, and he looked at Lu Yinshen with watery, shimmering eyes.
He continued, “School starts today. I have to report to the university this afternoon. I will come back as soon as I finish registering.”
Registration at A University was today. The campus was quite far from the villa district, taking over an hour to reach by car. Adding in the time spent at the school, it would likely be several hours before he could return to Lu Yinshen’s side.
Leaving?
Lu Yinshen’s mood shifted visibly, though the only thing he allowed to surface was a dark chill. His expression remained relatively still, but his knuckles clamped down hard onto the cold iron armrests of his wheelchair.
He simply stared at Yan Yi. After a moment, he spoke. “Then I shall give you a back-to-school gift.”
“A gift?”
Yan Yi immediately broke into a delighted smile, his eyes sparkling as he looked at Lu Yinshen. “Thank you, Uncle. You have such great taste; I am sure the gift will be wonderful.”
He flushed slightly, adding with a hint of bashfulness, “I will work hard to earn money so I can give you a gift too.”
Lu Yinshen offered a noncommittal hum, his eyes never leaving Yan Yi’s face.
The smile on Yan Yi’s lips deepened uncontrollably, and a surge of excitement rippled through his body. Look at me just like that. Keep looking at me like that forever.
Time ticked away. If he did not leave now, he would be late for registration.
Yan Yi said in a soft, lingering tone, “I am leaving now. I will be back soon.”
His fingertips turned white from the force of his grip on the wheelchair. Lu Yinshen closed his eyes and turned his wheelchair around to face away from him. His voice was husky and low. “I will have the driver take you.”
Yan Yi did not refuse. His eyes curved with joy, and his tone lifted. “Okay!”
Before heading out, Yan Yi emphasized once more, “Uncle Lu, I really will be back soon.”
He looked at the man’s back, who only responded with a cold, guttural sound of affirmation.
Yan Yi stepped forward and adjusted the coat draped over Lu Yinshen’s shoulders. He leaned over from behind, wrapping his arms around him slightly as he brought his face close to Lu Yinshen’s ear. A breath of warm, moist air brushed against the skin, causing Lu Yinshen’s sensitive earlobe to tremble.
Yan Yi’s gaze was tender and completely undisguised. His voice was magnetic and full of affection. “The roses outside the window have bloomed. I wanted to tell you that I will miss you very much.”
“See you tonight, Uncle.”
As Yan Yi stepped out of the front door, the waiting driver immediately opened the rear door for him. Once the car felt the additional weight in the backseat, it started smoothly.
Yan Yi watched the villa grow smaller in the distance until it vanished completely. Only then did he withdraw his gaze.
His face turned cold, replaced by a sharp, fierce indifference. There was not a trace of the softness he had displayed in front of Lu Yinshen.
The gold-plated sign for A University shimmered in the sunlight. Countless young people dragging luggage streamed through the gates, and Yan Yi was one of them.
The moment his feet hit the pavement, he felt dozens of gazes fixed upon him.
The students who could get into this university were all the cream of the crop. Most came from good or even wealthy families. However, few arrived in a limited-edition luxury vehicle. The value of that car alone was enough to buy a penthouse in the city center.
Those who knew cars were drawn to the vehicle first; those who did not were immediately captivated by the exceptionally handsome face of the man stepping out of it.
Many whispered in awe about how good-looking he was. He had the looks, the money, and the physique. Being a student at this prestigious institution meant his intelligence was top-tier as well. He was the definition of a winner in life.
Someone could not resist snapping a photo with their camera.
Yan Yi keenly noticed the flash but did not stop it. In the original story, the heartthrob protagonist first gained online fame because a student reporter was captivated by his looks and took a photo. It was posted with the headline “Top-Tier Looks for a Top-Tier University,” attracting massive traffic and the attention of several high-quality male leads.
Now that he was here, would the original protagonist still be able to make waves online?
Among the crowd, Yao Si stared directly at him. His eyes betrayed a greedy desire to possess him. He could already imagine this man kneeling at his feet, showing a look of pure obsession.
His delicate face flashed with a look of triumph before quickly shifting back into the guise of a pitiful white lotus.
A tall senior student nearby stammered to him, “Classmate, let me help you with your luggage.”
Yao Si did not refuse. He blushed and thanked him. “You are so kind, Senior.”
The senior scratched the back of his head sheepishly and took the bags.
Yao Si kept his eyes locked on Yan Yi’s silhouette while maintaining a piteous expression for the senior. “Senior, I need to reply to a friend’s message really quickly.”
“Sure, go ahead.”
Yao Si lowered his head to hide his impatient expression. He quickly pulled out his phone. A message from a contact labeled “Bankrupt Fish” sat at the top of his notifications.
Bankrupt Fish: Xiao Si, you know that damn cripple is loaded. He is going to give me tens of millions soon. You like acting, right? I will invest in a drama for you, okay?
Bankrupt Fish: Xiao Si, why are you not replying? Are you too busy?
Si-Si Who Loves Brother: No need, Brother Ye. You should spend that money on yourself. I am happy as long as you are happy!
Si-Si Who Loves Brother: Brother, I have arrived at school and I am about to register. Let us have dinner together when I am done!
Bankrupt Fish: Okay.
Yao Si put his phone away and gave the senior an apologetic smile. “It was just a message from a friend.”
The senior asked awkwardly, “Would you like to add me? I have been at this school for a long time. You can ask me anything you do not understand.”
Yao Si blushed again and lowered his head shyly. “I would love to.”
Yan Yi looked down at his phone screen and sighed inwardly. His uncle had not replied to him yet, but that did not stop him from sending more messages.
Y: Uncle, I have arrived at school! (Image) (Image) (Image)
Y: What are you doing, Uncle? Do you miss me as much as I miss you? (GIF of a kitten expectantly nuzzling you)
Y: I am at the registration desk now, so I cannot check my messages for a bit. (GIF of a crying cat)
After waiting a while longer and seeing that Lu Yinshen still had not replied, Yan Yi pocketed his phone. He pulled out his registration documents and handed them to the staff.
“Oh!” a sudden cry came from beside him. A body seemed to be falling toward him.
Yan Yi stepped aside instantly. He even gave a subtle kick to a stray stone, sending it under the person’s feet.
Thud!
The person hit the ground hard. A small cut from a pebble opened on his face, and his carefully styled hair became a mess.
Yao Si was stunned. He had used this move countless times. Even if the man did not catch him, he usually would not hit the ground this hard. If that stone had not suddenly rolled under his foot, he would not have fallen!
Yao Si gritted his teeth. If this embarrassing moment were seen by too many people, it could become a stain on his history after his debut. He intended to be a big star in the future. A flash of resentment crossed his face, but he adjusted his expression in an instant. With tears in his eyes and a reddened nose, he looked up at Yan Yi pitiably.
Yan Yi took out his phone and messaged Lu Yinshen.
Y: (GIF of a crying cat) (GIF of a kitten sobbing piteously)
Y: Uncle Lu, someone almost bumped into me. (Pout) (Wronged)
Y: I almost got taken advantage of! QAQ (GIF of a cat wailing)
The phone vibrated immediately. He received his first reply from Lu Yinshen.
LYS: Who?
He was asking who had tried to take advantage of him.
Before Yan Yi could finish typing, the person on the ground looked at him and cried piteously, his voice artificially soft. “Classmate, could you help me up?”
It was phrased as a question, but the tone was full of certainty. Yao Si was confident that no one could resist his charm. In the past, no matter how cold or aloof a man seemed, they always softened when he used this move.
Yan Yi acted as if he had heard nothing. He kept his head down to message his uncle.
Y: It is not a big deal! I dodged them. I did not have any contact with anyone else at all! (GIF of a kitten proudly puffing its chest)
LYS: Good boy.
Yan Yi could not help but smile. His uncle was truly adorable.
Seeing that he was being ignored, a flash of hatred crossed Yao Si’s eyes. One day, this man would regret today and beg for his forgiveness on his knees. And he would not grant it!
Thinking of what was to come, Yao Si’s expression relaxed, and he raised his chin triumphantly.
The senior student reached out to pull him up. Seeing the tanned, unrefined arm, Yao Si felt a flicker of disgust. Hiding his true thoughts, he pushed himself up and said weakly, “I can do it myself, Senior.”
The little drama ended there, and the onlookers dispersed.
The staff member at the registration desk, seeing Yan Yi standing there, thought he was lost. They handed him a sheet of paper. “Your dormitory assignment should be on here. You can find the map on the official website, or would you like someone to lead you there?”
The dormitories were assigned before registration. Although Yan Yi had not been in this world then, the System had ensured his identity as a pure-hearted college student was fully documented.
Yan Yi replied, “Thank you, but I am not staying on campus.”
“Not staying on campus?”
The staff member was surprised but then realized that given this student’s noble aura and obvious wealth, it was perfectly normal. They felt a twinge of envy. “Living alone, then?”
Many who lived off-campus rented apartments; the truly wealthy even bought property to live by themselves.
Yan Yi’s gaze turned tender. “I am living with my uncle.”
His tone was so hazy and affectionate that it did not sound like he was talking about an uncle; it sounded like he was talking about a lover. The staff member assumed they had misheard, smiled, and went back to work.
Once the formalities were finished, Yan Yi walked toward the school gate. Since there was nothing else to do on registration day, he prepared to head home immediately.
Before he could reach his driver’s car, an extremely familiar vehicle pulled up nearby.
Is that not Uncle Lu’s car? Is he here?
Yan Yi knew every model in Lu Yinshen’s garage. Unless the man had bought a new one in the year Yan Yi was gone, he was familiar with all of them. He had even ridden in this specific car recently.
Yan Yi was certain he was not mistaken. Recalling the messages, he had sent earlier, he wondered if Lu Yinshen had actually gotten jealous and come to catch him.
