- Chapter 11 - The Paranoid Villain (11) Feeding Candy
Lu Yinshen used his other hand to tilt Yan Yi’s chin upward. “But some ingredients are born with defects. They are riddled with horrific wormholes, barren and bitter.”
Cold fingertips slid across the warmth of Yan Yi’s lips. Yan Yi parted his lips slightly, taking the finger into the moist heat of his mouth.
His teeth remained apart, avoiding any hard contact that might cause pain, but his tongue was not so polite. It curled and swirled around the finger, meticulously tasting it. As the tip of his tongue licked his skin, sticky silver threads of saliva wound around the finger. When he finally let go, the glistening strands reflected the light in the air.
Yan Yi let out a soft laugh. “It is clearly delicious. Uncle is lying.”
Beside them, the paper rose sat ignored; neither of them spared it a single glance.
Lu Yinshen curled his lips into a faint smile and released his hold, trapping the rose between two fingers. “Let us go,” he said.
Breakfast was finished quickly, and the medicinal meal that had been simmering was ready. Yan Yi ladled it into a tureen, making it easier for Lu Yinshen to drink.
Yan Yi had checked his schedule. There were two major lectures starting at eight o’clock this morning, and he had to go to school. Although he could skip, it felt wrong to do so on the very first day. Moreover, the character he was playing was not the type to cut class.
“I am heading to school now,” Yan Yi said. “I will be back as soon as class is over. You must drink the medicinal meal I prepared.”
He pulled a box of candy from his pocket, took out one piece, and placed it in Lu Yinshen’s palm. “If you finish this entire bowl of medicine, I will give you the rest when I return.”
Lu Yinshen gave a half-smile that did not reach his eyes. “Are you coaxing a child?”
Despite his words, his grip on the candy tightened.
Yan Yi’s brows lifted, and his voice was soft and obedient. “I am coaxing my little uncle.”
“I am leaving now, Uncle. See you after school.”
Lu Yinshen said nothing more. His expression remained flat and indifferent, making it impossible to read his mood. Yan Yi stepped forward and gave him a brief hug. “See you at noon.”
The driver taking him to school was Driver Zhang.
Yan Yi sat in the back with a cold, weary expression. It was only when his fingertips brushed against his earphones that his features softened for a moment. There was no talking on the other end, only the sound of breathing; it was regular, quiet, and steady.
Accompanied by the sound of that breathing, Yan Yi entered the school and found his classroom according to the schedule. The moment he stepped inside, countless gazes swarmed toward him before quickly looking away. No matter how handsome he was, staring was impolite. But the silent consensus was clear: he was incredibly handsome.
Yan Yi took a seat in the back row of the large lecture hall. His figure was partially hidden by the crowd, making him slightly less conspicuous despite his striking appearance.
During roll call, a man who had been slumped over the desk beside him rubbed his eyes and shouted, “Present!” As his gaze landed on Yan Yi, he yelled in shock, “Brother, are you that famous school hunk?”
When Yan Yi registered yesterday, a student reporter had taken his photo. Someone had posted it on social media on a whim, and it had gone viral, attracting countless admirers.
Instantly, everyone in the classroom turned to look. Even the professor’s gaze became sharp as a blade. If not for the distance, a piece of chalk might have made intimate contact with the loud student’s face.
The man gave a sheepish laugh and lowered his voice. “I did not expect it, brother. You are in this major too? My name is Zhou Wei.”
Zhou Wei?
Yan Yi recognized the name. This man was a talent with a natural gift for entrepreneurship. In the original story, the protagonist had tried to seduce him, only to be discovered by one of the male leads. Zhou Wei became cannon fodder. His parents were laid off, his father fell ill, and the promising top student was forced to drop out to work at construction sites and hospitals. That was the original plot. But now, things were different.
Zhou Wei’s voice dropped to a whisper. “Brother, can I get your autograph? My sister is a huge fan of yours.”
Zhou Wei had a sister five years his senior who was in graduate school. They were very close. She often bombarded him with messages, and yesterday she told him about a handsome guy trending online who attended his school. She had ordered him to get an autograph. He had not planned on it since the university was huge, but meeting him on the first day was sheer luck. If an autograph made his sister happy, he was willing to ask.
Yan Yi twirled his pen. “Sure.”
Zhou Wei thanked him repeatedly. “Thanks a lot, brother. If you ever need anything, just let me know.”
Yan Yi left a sleek signature on the corner of a textbook page.
“Thanks again,” Zhou Wei said happily. “When I go home for the holidays, I will tear this page out. My sister will be thrilled.” He took a photo of the signature and started texting, presumably to his sister.
Yan Yi had no interest in others. He twirled his pen, his eyes on the podium, but his entire focus was on his earphones. There was nothing but light breathing, yet he found it deeply satisfying.
“Hey, brother,” Zhou Wei said suddenly, sounding a bit embarrassed.
“What is it?” Yan Yi asked.
Zhou Wei cleared his throat. “My sister wanted to ask; do you have a girlfriend?”
Yan Yi paused. “No.”
The breathing in his earphone faltered for a few seconds.
Before Zhou Wei could breathe a sigh of relief, Yan Yi looked down and smiled. “But I have a boyfriend. I live with him now.”
An occasional bit of jealousy was a fine pleasure, but Lu Yinshen was naturally suspicious and sensitive. There was no need to be vague and cause him real distress.
“You like him a lot?” Zhou Wei asked curiously.
Yan Yi corrected him seriously. “No, I love him. I love him very much.”
Seeing the deep affection on Yan Yi’s face, Zhou Wei was privately surprised but offered a sincere blessing. “I see. I hope I can meet someone I like that much one day. I wish you and your boyfriend a long and happy life together.”
He scratched his head and began replying to his sister.
A very faint chuckle sounded in Yan Yi’s ear. A magnetic, seductive voice whispered, “Quite obedient.”
The corners of Yan Yi’s lips lifted. He was so easy to coax.
After the lecture, a message arrived from a contact labeled Auntie Lin.
Auntie Lin: Xiao Yi, there is a family dinner tomorrow night. Remember to come back early.
Y: Okay, Auntie Lin. I understand.
Auntie Lin: You should be quite close to where your Uncle Lu lives. Since his legs are not convenient, could you come with him?
Y: Yes, Auntie.
The Lu family dinner was a major plot point. In the original text, the protagonist met another Lu family lead there, sparking a conflict between the two younger generations of the family.
Once the second lecture finished, Yan Yi messaged Lu Yinshen.
Y: I am out of class. Did Uncle drink the medicinal meal? (Cat with sparkling eyes)
LYS: I drank it.
Yan Yi’s lips moved silently, mouthing the word “liar.”
He took the car driven by Driver Zhang back to the villa. As soon as he opened the door, he saw Lu Yinshen. Yan Yi closed the door behind him, his expression obedient. “Auntie Lin mentioned a family dinner tomorrow night. Is Uncle going?”
Lu Yinshen clearly already knew about it. His expression was unmoved as he nodded. “Yes.”
Yan Yi’s peripheral vision flicked to the tureen on the table. He lifted the lid; it was empty. However, he had not heard the sound of Lu Yinshen swallowing through the audio feed. Had he poured it out?
“What is it?” Lu Yinshen asked, maneuvering his wheelchair over.
Yan Yi shook his head with a smile. He opened his palm, closed it into a fist, shook it gently, and opened it again. It was now filled with colorful candies. “The bowl is empty, so Uncle must have finished it all. Here.”
Lu Yinshen’s eyes flickered. His fingers gripped the armrests of his chair, and he did not move for a long time.
Seeing that he did not take them, Yan Yi walked closer and firmly pressed a candy into the cold palm. The warmth of the candy wrapper made Lu Yinshen flinch for a moment, as if he had been burned.
The medicinal meal was not in the tureen, and he certainly had not drunk it. He had poured it back into the simmering pot. Yet, Lu Yinshen maintained a calm facade as he accepted the candy.
As their eyes met, Yan Yi asked softly, “Was the medicinal meal good?”
“Mhm.” Lu Yinshen did not bat an eye.
Yan Yi carried the tureen to the kitchen. The small flame was off, but the liquid inside was still warm. He ladled some back into the tureen. The temperature was perfect; it was not too hot, but not cold enough to irritate Lu Yinshen’s fragile stomach.
He walked back slowly, smiling at Lu Yinshen. “Since Uncle thinks it is so delicious, have another bowl.”
Lu Yinshen’s dark lashes remained fixed on the bowl. His face showed no struggle, but his movements were hesitant.
Yan Yi held a spoonful to his lips. “I will feed you.” The spoon hung in the air, not yet entering his mouth. Yan Yi lowered his head and swallowed a spoonful himself. “It is not hot, little uncle.”
He scooped another small amount and offered it again. This time, Lu Yinshen accepted it, swallowing the medicine.
Yan Yi peeled a lychee-flavored candy. His white fingertips pressed against Lu Yinshen’s crimson lips. With a slight push, the candy and his finger were taken into the warmth of Lu Yinshen’s mouth.
His index finger moved inside Lu Yinshen’s mouth, causing the man’s breathing to quicken. When it touched the most sensitive part of his tongue, physiological tears nearly welled in the corners of Lu Yinshen’s eyes.
His tongue curled and licked the finger, coating every joint. When Yan Yi finally withdrew his hand, his moist fingertip slid across Lu Yinshen’s cheek to the corner of his mouth, gently wiping away a stray thread of silver.
Yan Yi leaned down, his nose lightly brushing against Lu Yinshen’s. The bitterness of the medicine in the moist, red mouth mixed with the sweetness of the lychee candy, creating a captivating fragrance.
“Mhm. Now you have the scent,” Yan Yi whispered with satisfaction.
The breath of the medicine was there, but it was no longer just the taste of the meal. It made his blood race, sparking a deep desire. As their noses touched and their eyes met, they felt each other’s presence intensely. The heat of their mingled breath was more satisfying than any candy in the world. Even the bitter medicine now tasted somewhat sweet.
Unlike their touching noses, their lips were separated by the distance of a single kiss. The heat of their breath was palpable and close, yet it did not land anywhere specific. It hung in the air, leaving them in a state of restless, unbearable tension.
Lu Yinshen stared intently at Yan Yi, his brow flushed. Because Yan Yi’s finger had nearly forced tears from his eyes, they were now glistening and wet. His slightly loosened collar allowed Yan Yi to see everything. The pale collarbones and the two vibrant points of color hardened in the cold air, trembling with a sudden, deep desire for something more.
