After Rebirth, My Archrival Omega Looks at Me Differently - Chapter 57
As the door clicked shut behind them, the light in the entryway suddenly flicked on, startled into action by the vibration.
A soft ring of light fell over their heads, stretching their shadows long and slender in the dim space.
Chi Yan stumbled a few steps back, pulled into Yan Youqing’s arms, and leaned against the cabinet behind her. The heat of her breath, slightly damp with the lingering humidity, brushed against Chi Yan’s nose and gradually raised the temperature around them.
Yan Youqing kissed her with urgency. Her lips moved with intent, assertively claiming Chi Yan as if to leave traces of herself all over her.
This wasn’t their first kiss. The awkwardness they once had was long gone.
Even though Yan Youqing kissed with the rush of a summer storm, she still managed to send sparks up Chi Yan’s spine.
Chi Yan never could resist her. Caught in her pull, she found herself kissing back without hesitation.
She gently slipped her hand free from Yan Youqing’s grasp, trailing it up her arm until it rested at her waist.
Their lips pressed close as Chi Yan’s fingers moved over the curve of her waist, the thin fabric offering little barrier to her touch. The electric sensation crackled across her skin, dancing from the crown of her head to the small of her back, and to every place where their bodies touched.
When she felt the slight trembling in Yan Youqing’s waist, Chi Yan pulled back first.
She noticed something wasn’t right and held her close. “What’s wrong?” she asked.
Yan Youqing didn’t answer. She simply leaned into Chi Yan’s embrace.
Her hair, draped over Chi Yan’s arm, fluttered with each breath she took. It looked like she was just catching her breath, but her downcast eyes hid something more complicated.
There were simply too many Omegas around Chi Yan. Even faint, lingering traces of their pheromones stuck to her and found their way into Yan Youqing’s awareness, clinging to her chest in a way that she couldn’t shake off.
She trusted Chi Yan, of course.
But there was a discomfort she couldn’t quite name, stronger even than the time she saw the class monitor chatting with Aqin at the barbecue place.
“Have you been overwhelmed with class committee stuff lately?” Chi Yan gently brushed her fingers through her hair, trying to soothe her. “Come on. Xiao Chi’s offering free recharging services.”
Yan Youqing looked up at her.
Then she tucked her face into Chi Yan’s chest again, her voice muffled slightly against the fabric of Chi Yan’s hoodie. “We don’t have class tomorrow.”
Some things don’t need to be explained. They only need to be said once to be understood.
Chi Yan stroked her hair and spoke in a soft, coaxing voice. “Can I have a sip of water first? That roast chicken wing was really salty.”
Yan Youqing nodded.
Their tangled hair brushed gently against Chi Yan’s palm.
The room remained dark. Outside the window, the full moon cast its reflection against the glass, flooding the living room with pale silver light.
Chi Yan let go only when she saw Yan Youqing standing firmly, then walked over to the bar area by the window.
Overhead, the artistic pendant light flicked on, casting a warm golden ring onto the glass of her water cup.
Chi Yan leaned against the bar, sipping from the glass. In the corner of her vision, she saw Yan Youqing approach.
Her delicate fingers reached out to touch Chi Yan’s hand wrapped around the cup, and their slightly cool fingertips met.
Before Chi Yan could realize what she was doing, Yan Youqing leaned in and kissed her.
Dew-kissed sea salt trickled into the glass. The kiss was gentle, affectionate, and full of quiet intimacy.
The cool water passed from one mouth to another, and when they parted, Chi Yan saw a faint shimmer of moonlight clinging to Yan Youqing’s lips.
Her lips were softly pressed together, her gaze lowered in that same composed, quiet way she always carried herself at school.
They were both fully clothed. Yan Youqing’s skirt was slightly wrinkled from earlier, yet the shadows in the room made the air feel thick with unspoken tension.
It was hard to describe. It wasn’t overt, but it wrapped around Chi Yan like a mist, slowly pulling her under before she even realized she couldn’t escape.
She stumbled with Yan Youqing into their bedroom.
The soft bed gave off a fresh scent, and the curve of Yan Youqing’s legs sank gently into the mattress.
Her cream-colored skirt flared out like a bouquet of blooming roses, draped across the bed in petals that curled and folded with her movements.
Moonlight spilled through the window beside the bed, casting a dreamy haze over everything.
Chi Yan opened her eyes for a moment between breaths. Yan Youqing’s face was just inches away.
Her lashes were damp, sparkling with tiny droplets like stardust. They scattered into her eyes and lit up like constellations.
“Chi Yan… mark me,” Yan Youqing whispered, her voice brushing against Chi Yan’s ear like silk.
Chi Yan’s heart was already trembling from the starlight in her eyes. There was no resistance left in her. She obeyed the plea, her fangs trailing to the hidden place beneath her long hair.
The taste of sea salt and morning dew burst like a drop of nectar on Chi Yan’s tongue, crashing through her like a tide.
Her sharp Alpha canines grazed carefully, expertly avoiding the small crystalline gland.
That was the core of an Omega’s scent. If it were marked by another Alpha, it would become a permanent and irreversible bond.
But when Chi Yan avoided it again, Yan Youqing trembled and whispered with frustration, “Chi Yan… don’t avoid it anymore…”
Her voice held a fragile kind of restraint, carrying both pain and longing. Her eyes, glowing faintly with starlight, locked with Chi Yan’s.
Moonlight poured over her body like a thin veil, drawing a soft glow over the curve of her throat and the subtle line down her back. The blush rising from her skin made her look like she had been carved from ivory and kissed by rose petals.
No Alpha could resist that.
Least of all Chi Yan, who had the privilege of holding her in her arms.
It felt like a fire had ignited in her mind, and she could only follow the heat of Yan Youqing’s words.
This time, her fangs did not swerve. They pierced into the heart of the gland.
The taste of tequila, sharp and commanding, surged into Yan Youqing’s system. It was like a flood breaking through a long-held dam, roaring through a river that had only ever trickled before.
“Ah…”
Yan Youqing arched her neck, unable to hold back. Her lips were bitten pale.
There was pain, yes—but even more, there was the feeling of truly becoming one with the person behind her.
Outside, autumn leaves rustled against tree branches, their whispers soft and low in the night wind.
The kiss between them was so intense, so overwhelming, that Yan Youqing felt like she was drowning in it.
And yet, she wanted to be.
She wanted a world where it was just the two of them.
As night fell deeper into silence, the chill of autumn revealed itself in the stillness of what was once a lively patch of grass.
Chi Yan stepped out of the bathroom with a towel in her hand, wiping the mist from the ends of her hair. When she returned, she saw that Yan Youqing had already fallen asleep.
She looked peaceful.
But not entirely.
It wasn’t until Chi Yan lay down beside her and moved closer in a familiar way that the subtle unease between Yan Youqing’s brows finally disappeared.
Her tongue brushed lightly against her sharp teeth, tasting the faint trace of sea salt and morning dew.
Chi Yan quietly watched Yan Youqing’s sleeping face, her expression unreadable.
She could sense that Yan Youqing had felt awkward and uneasy that night.
She felt that she should do something for her.
The next morning, the sky was clear and bright.
Warm sunlight filtered into the room through the curtains that hadn’t been fully drawn. On the clean and tidy bed, a young girl was still fast asleep.
“Youqing. Youqing.”
This time, the familiar voice was calling Yan Youqing by her full name. Usually the one reluctant to get out of bed, Chi Yan was now sitting at the edge of the bed, gently calling her.
Still groggy from sleep, Yan Youqing slowly woke up.
She looked at Chi Yan with sleepy confusion and asked, “Aren’t we off from class today?”
Chi Yan shook her head and reminded her, “There’s one class that ends today.”
Yan Youqing was even more puzzled.
They had only been back in school for just over a month. How could any class already be ending?
Before Yan Youqing could ask more questions, Chi Yan placed a set of neatly prepared clothes beside her and urged, “Hurry and get dressed. The car is already waiting downstairs.”
The roadside trees rushed past as the car sped forward. Reflected in the window was Yan Youqing’s profile, wearing a white shirt she hadn’t worn in a long time.
She quietly looked at the road that was leading them away from the school. The confusion in her eyes slowly faded into calmness.
The sunlight followed the car until the words Civil Affairs Bureau appeared faintly in the window’s reflection.
As soon as they got out of the car, Wang Chuning came running over with a number ticket in hand and said, “You got here pretty fast.”
It seemed she had carefully planned everything for them. She pointed quickly and asked, “Don’t have ID photos yet? Go over there. Quick photo, quick pickup.”
Chi Yan took the number from Wang Chuning and said, “Thank you. That was a big help.”
But Wang Chuning, thrilled that her favorite couple was finally getting married, didn’t feel troubled at all.
She waved her hand and raised the camera hanging around her neck. “What help? Just let me take a few more photos later and I’m happy.”
Chi Yan nodded, then turned to look at Yan Youqing who stood beside her.
This idea had come to Chi Yan the night before. Although it was spontaneous, it was not careless.
She wanted to give Yan Youqing a sense of security.
She would not let her feel uncertain like she had the day before.
“It might be sudden, but I’ve already marked you. You don’t have a chance to regret it now.” Chi Yan, a little afraid that Yan Youqing might turn her down, put on a confident expression and gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind Yan Youqing’s ear.
But Yan Youqing did not feel upset or forced at all.
She walked straight to the red background for the ID photo, her clear eyes holding a calm and sincere smile. “I don’t regret it.”
To marry Chi Yan.
She knew she would never regret it.
The number that Wang Chuning had picked was just right. As soon as the photo session ended, the marriage registration office displayed their names on the screen.
They applied, signed, and received the official stamp.
Just moments earlier, they were two people with no legal ties. Now, they walked out as legally recognized partners.
Wang Chuning looked at them with excitement in her eyes. Chi Yan did not let her down and proudly held up the red certificate. “Ta-da”
Click.
Wang Chuning raised her camera and eagerly pressed the shutter, capturing the moment.
Only minutes later, both Chi Yan and Yan Youqing posted their marriage certificates on social media at nearly the same time.
In the photo with the red background, Yan Youqing wore a rare soft smile.
Her head tilted slightly as she gently leaned on Chi Yan’s tense but joyful shoulder.
Perhaps in this world, this is what deep love and a long-awaited wish fulfilled truly look like.
