- Chapter 3 - Coaxing is Useless, the Relationship Fractures
By this point, Xian Yuzhu finally understood the meaning of fear. He looked at Huo Yan, his body shrinking back continuously as he refused to cooperate in any way. Hanyang had not yet left his post outside the door, and the implication of his presence was clear. Huo Yan wasted no more words. He grabbed Xian Yuzhu’s wrist, and seeing the youth’s frail, weak appearance, he frowned.
“Stand up straight. There are outsiders present. Act with some dignity,” Huo Yan commanded.
The youth’s thin body trembled slightly, and his face was devoid of color.
“Huo Yan, you cannot do this. I am the Young Sect Leader. Those sect rules do not apply to me. I am warning you, my father entrusted the sect to your temporary leadership because he trusts you. If I complain to him, there will be no good consequences for you,” Xian Yuzhu threatened.
Huo Yan remained unmoved and replied coldly, “Be silent. If you wish to complain to the Master, I will not stop you. Go ahead and do so.”
After speaking, he ignored the boy’s protests. Xian Yuzhu was instantly rendered speechless. He kept his eyes tightly shut as tears began to fall rapidly. Unfortunately, ever since Huo Yan became the Chief Disciple of the sect, his word had been final. He was not someone who would soften his heart just because someone cried. He always acted with consistency. Regardless of whose disciple stood before him, right was right and wrong was wrong. Pleading was useless, and threats were futile.
If Xian Yuzhu were strong enough, he could have easily knocked Huo Yan aside with a sword and fought him until the world turned upside down. However, not only was his cultivation level insufficient, but his height also fell significantly short. Consequently, he had no choice but to accept his fate. Huo Yan was tall and powerful, requiring only one hand to pin Xian Yuzhu in place.
“Huo Yan, Huo Yan!”
Xian Yuzhu could no longer endure it. His face crumpled as he cried and cursed simultaneously. He was a spoiled child who feared pain above all else. If his skin suffered even a tiny scratch, he would need several days to recover. Now, he was being treated like a young child in a schoolhouse, and his palms burned with a stinging pain. Furthermore, Xian Yuzhu was incredibly vain. It was bad enough to be punished for a mistake, but being disciplined by the person he hated most was a fate worse than death.
“Just you wait! I will definitely kill you!”
Xian Yuzhu struggled while weeping, and during the commotion, he found an opportunity to slap Huo Yan across the face. Huo Yan’s expression darkened. Caught off guard by the strike, one side of his face burned with pain.
“Xian Yuzhu,” Huo Yan warned with a scowl.
He was not a man of good temper to begin with. Xian Yuzhu’s refusal to listen, his constant thrashing, and his demands for Huo Yan to get out finally exhausted the man’s patience. Huo Yan pulled over a chair and sat down, his frost-cold face looking particularly grim.
“Using foul language again. Yuzhu, who exactly taught you such bad habits?” Huo Yan’s voice was naturally cold, but now, tinged with suppressed anger, it carried no warmth at all.
Xian Yuzhu continued to cry and curse. He originally wanted to pull Huo Yan’s hair, ideally until the madman was completely bald, but he realized his palms hurt too much for that. Instead, he lunged forward and bit the man’s shoulder in an act of retaliation. Huo Yan hissed and frowned as the metallic taste of blood spread in Xian Yuzhu’s mouth.
“Let go,” Huo Yan ordered.
Xian Yuzhu turned a deaf ear as blood slowly soaked through the fabric of the man’s shoulder.
“Xian Yuzhu, I am giving you one last chance. Let go,” Huo Yan warned, his grip tightening painfully on the back of the youth’s neck.
Hearing the man’s voice turn murderous and feeling the immense force pinning his neck, the sense of triumph in Xian Yuzhu’s heart vanished. He realized too late that Huo Yan was not his father or any other indulgent elder. Huo Yan was someone who was not infatuated with his beauty. He was not a man who could be subdued by a few tears.
Realizing this, the strength in Xian Yuzhu’s bite gradually slackened. He knew that a wise man submits to fate and that a gentleman’s revenge is a dish best served cold. Once his father emerged from secluded cultivation, he would have someone to back him up. At that time, even if he could not kill this lunatic, he would beat him until he crawled on the ground like a dog.
Xian Yuzhu felt deep resentment, but he did not want to be hit again. He softened his tone.
“Senior Brother, I know I was wrong.” He reluctantly wrapped his arms around the man’s neck, letting silent tears flow down his chin and onto Huo Yan’s immortal robes. “Senior Brother, please let me go. Do not punish me anymore. My hands really hurt.”
You bastard, just you wait, Xian Yuzhu thought. His beautiful peach-blossom eyes were full of hatred, yet his body clung softly to Huo Yan’s broad, hard shoulders like a small animal. His voice was naturally pleasant, and now, muffled by his crying, it sounded even more endearing.
Xian Yuzhu lived up to his name. He was as beautiful as fine jade and as white as a pearl. His skin was incredibly delicate from head to toe. As the noble Young Sect Leader of the Yuxian Sect, he had never humbled himself before anyone. Almost every young cultivator who saw him acted like a dog scenting meat. They were so desperate for his attention that he only needed to give a single look for them to come crawling.
For many years, Huo Yan had been the sole exception. The adored Xian Yuzhu could not understand it. Huo Yan had once been an insignificant outer disciple, someone so lowly he was not fit to carry Xian Yuzhu’s shoes. If it were not for the Sect Leader’s promotion, he would still be suffering in the outer sect. How could such a person remain indifferent to his beauty?
Yet, Huo Yan had succeeded in doing so. This was not the only incredible thing about him. Ten years ago, Huo Yan had suddenly broken through multiple cultivation realms in a single night, stopping only after reaching the Golden Core stage. It was absurd. Things that ordinary cultivators could not achieve in decades or centuries, he had accomplished in a mere six hours. His originally unremarkable Five-Element Roots had shed their disguise to reveal a legendary Variant Single Root. Such a once-in-a-millennium talent could not be ignored. The Sect Leader, who never took disciples, made an exception and accepted him as his first and only personal disciple. From that moment on, Xian Yuzhu knew there was such a strange person in the sect. He was a loner who lived like a stone statue: cold, hard, and utterly unlikable.
“Xian Yuzhu, let go,” Huo Yan said, his voice dry.
He clearly had not expected Xian Yuzhu to embrace him. He had never been in such close contact with anyone. This was because, on the night of his breakthrough ten years ago, Huo Yan had awakened. He realized that this world was not real and that everyone in it was a creation. He was the sole protagonist of this book. The story stated that his fate would be full of hardships and tragedy. His family would be slaughtered in his youth, and he would face constant bullying after joining the sect. Even after awakening his talent and becoming a leader in the cultivation world, he would be betrayed by his followers. Eventually, the sect would fall, and he would be hunted down, his cultivation destroyed, before falling into the most terrifying abyss. After a century of suffering, he would be reborn.
Even then, Huo Yan’s predestined life was devoid of any true affection. Heartbroken and blackened by his experiences, his reborn self would begin to slaughter the three realms. For such evil deeds, his ultimate end was the scattering of his soul. Having learned this in advance, Huo Yan decided to rewrite his fate and refused to accept kindness from anyone. He needed no followers and no close friends. As for a cultivation partner, he had none in the original plot, and he saw no need for one now.
Therefore, when Huo Yan, who detested being touched, was embraced by Xian Yuzhu, his entire body stiffened. What disturbed him even more was that his heart, which was usually as still as dead water, actually reacted to Xian Yuzhu’s fake plea for mercy. It was preposterous. A dark gloom swirled in Huo Yan’s eyes. He was prepared to fight fate. He should not soften his heart for anyone. Furthermore, he knew Xian Yuzhu’s tears were entirely fabricated.
Consequently, Huo Yan grabbed the youth by the collar and coldly peeled him away from his embrace. He looked down from a superior height, gazing at the youth’s gorgeous, seductive face and the redness around his eyes. He had no intention of showing mercy. Huo Yan’s rough thumb brushed against the tear-stained corners of the beauty’s eyes, rubbing the skin until it was sore.
“Xian Yuzhu, put away your useless tears,” he said coldly. “I am not one of those shallow men who is willing to be your dog. The beauty you are so proud of means nothing to me.”
It sounded like a warning to Xian Yuzhu, but it was also a stern reminder to himself.
