After My Flash Marriage with the Sick Beauty, I Reached the Pinnacle of My Life - Chapter 2
“I’m sorry… it’s all my fault.”
“I don’t deserve you.”
“!!!”
Xia Shishi awoke in a soft bed. She looked around the familiar room and felt her legs—they still had feeling.
She had been reborn.
She had truly been reborn.
Tears streamed down Xia Shishi’s face. Heaven had heard her cries. This was wonderful. It wasn’t too late. If she went to apologize to Wen Jiao now and admit her mistakes, she could still fix things.
She threw off the quilt and saw her perfectly intact feet, and her tears fell once more.
She was so overwhelmed, so happy.
This time, she would not be manipulated by the plot, losing her mind and only realizing the extent of her terrible actions once she had recovered her senses.
In this new life, she would double her kindness towards Wen Jiao.
She rushed out the door, bumping into the maid, Qi Xue, who was coming the other way. Both were startled.
Qi Xue immediately lowered her head: “Miss, Madam is angry right now. You should probably stay upstairs.”
“Angry?” Xia Shishi curled her lips. She should be angry. She was so angry with herself she wanted to slap herself twice! Xia Shishi had to go downstairs, or it would be too late!
But it didn’t stop her from shooting a look of intense dislike at Qi Xue. If the matter at hand wasn’t so urgent, she wouldn’t let her off the hook right now!
Xia Shishi hurried downstairs.
Just as Qi Xue had said, her mother, Mother Xia, was pacing in a rage: “She says she won’t marry, so she won’t marry. What if this drives Wen Jiao over the edge? Won’t the Wen family kill us?”
Yet, despite her panic, Mother Xia still hadn’t gone upstairs to summon Xia Shishi.
Because the couple had waited so long for their daughter, Xia Shishi, they spoiled her rotten and could only pace anxiously in the living room.
“Mom.” Xia Shishi’s eyes began to well up again.
Mother Xia heard her voice and immediately turned around. Seeing her beloved daughter crying so sadly, she became flustered: “Do you… do you really not want to marry her?”
“That’s not it, Mom.” Xia Shishi was crying too hard to speak.
She felt like she hadn’t seen her parents in so long, and she missed them terribly.
Xia Shishi could only run over to her mother, crying, and hug her, weeping until she had vented all the grief and guilt in her heart.
Mother Xia patted Xia Shishi’s back frantically, her heart aching to see her daughter cry like this: “Alright, then, don’t marry her… it’s just an engagement ceremony. We won’t go.”
Father Xia still wanted to sternly lecture her, but seeing his daughter’s tear-stained face and his wife’s red eyes, he sighed.
“I’ll go talk to the Wen family.”
“Dad!”
Xia Shishi interrupted Father Xia.
She wiped her tears, speaking with utter seriousness: “I want to marry her. We’ll go now. We can definitely still make it!”
This statement shocked both Mother and Father Xia. Why had their daughter suddenly changed her mind?
Had something happened that they didn’t know about?
The couple loved Xia Shishi the most and couldn’t bear for her to suffer any grievance. At this point, they started trying to persuade her: “Don’t rush, dear. If you don’t want to marry, we won’t force you. At worst, you can stay home forever, and we’ll support you for the rest of your life!”
“Mom.” Xia Shishi’s nose was blocked, and she nearly burst into tears again. She forced herself to hold it back and repeated: “I want to marry her.”
She knew such a drastic change would frighten her parents.
Xia Shishi managed to force a smile: “It’s just an engagement ceremony. Even if we don’t end up together, we can part amicably. How can I back out on the day of the engagement?”
Mother Xia, whose eyes had been red for a long time, started to cry again at these words: “My daughter has grown up.”
Yes.
She had grown up.
It was such a simple principle, yet in her previous life, she had been so utterly possessed, completely unable to grasp it.
She had insisted on humiliating her parents and Wen Jiao, acting as if she were the only person in the world who felt righteous indignation.
No, there was also Zhou Xiaojiang.
Xia Shishi’s expression instantly turned cold. Noticing Mother Xia staring at her, she quickly changed the subject to avoid suspicion: “We look awful going there like this. Let’s get ready first.”
Mother Xia nodded: “My daughter is right.”
Xia Shishi finally broke into a smile. She was so lucky to have such loving parents.
She hugged Mother Xia’s arm and said sweetly, like a spoiled child: “Mom is so beautiful, she can go as she is. But your daughter has to change and put on some makeup!”
Mother Xia seemed profoundly moved. How long had it been since her precious daughter had acted so affectionately?
There was no time to ponder; her heart was filled with joy. Even Father Xia smiled slightly as he watched the mother and daughter.
Mother Xia saw the startled Qi Xue on the stairs and called out: “Qi Xue, hurry and help Shishi get ready. My precious daughter has such a delicate face; we can’t have her looking bad because she cried.”
“Mom.” Xia Shishi called out again, but without the earlier playful tone. She pursed her lips: “I don’t want Qi Xue to follow me anymore. Let’s dismiss her when we get back.”
Mother Xia: “What did you say?”
Xia Shishi’s decision was too sudden. Even Qi Xue was shocked.
Why, all of a sudden, would she dismiss Qi Xue, who had been with her since childhood?
Xia Shishi looked at Qi Xue with her beautiful eyes, squinting slightly in assessment: “It’s nothing.”
She couldn’t easily explain everything to Mother Xia.
But she would never forget.
In her previous life, Xia Shishi didn’t actually hate Wen Jiao that much. Although she felt very disoriented at the time, after she woke up, the fog before her eyes seemed to clear.
Xia Shishi remembered her initial impression of Wen Jiao: just a beautiful woman.
She couldn’t say she hated her, but she didn’t love her either.
Because they hadn’t really interacted much before.
It was Qi Xue who constantly spoke ill of Wen Jiao to Xia Shishi. She always said that with Xia Shishi’s family background and beauty, she shouldn’t marry a woman with no inheritance rights, especially one who was disabled.
The foolish Xia Shishi had believed Qi Xue, her intelligence seemingly offline.
Even on the day of the engagement, it was Qi Xue who encouraged her, saying that as long as she threw a tantrum, Father and Mother Xia wouldn’t punish her severely. A marriage between two women wasn’t a good look anyway, and Wen Jiao wouldn’t dare hold her accountable.
That idiot, Xia Shishi, actually followed Qi Xue’s plan.
And then what?
Then she discovered that Qi Xue had been bribed by Zhou Xiaojiang and was deliberately saying those things to her.
Zhou Xiaojiang was afraid that if Xia Shishi and Wen Jiao married, the Xia and Wen families would unite, which would be detrimental to that Fu Yunhan’s company!
After Xia Shishi broke off the engagement, Zhou Xiaojiang felt she was no longer a threat, but then twisted the knife further.
She had Qi Xue accuse Xia Shishi to the reporters, saying many terrible things about her.
For instance, that Xia Shishi had a volatile temper, frequently hit and verbally abused Qi Xue, made her do everything, and threatened to kick her out if she failed.
This made the public’s perception of the wealthy second-generation heir plummet, combined with the scandal of her backing out of the engagement publicly.
In a short time, the name Xia Shishi became a joke.
Xia Shishi looked mockingly at the flustered Qi Xue on the stairs. She had just tried to stop her from coming down. By this point, she must have received a substantial sum from Zhou Xiaojiang.
But now was not the time to deal with this; any later, and she really would miss the engagement ceremony!
Xia Shishi simply explained to Mother Xia: “I just don’t need her anymore.”
