After My Death, the Richest Heiress Committed Suicide to Be With Me - Chapter 7
Seeing Xiao Lou’s brows furrow tightly and her face turn pale in an instant, Wu Yi became frantic. Her entire body leaned toward her in a rush.
However, she didn’t dare to actually touch her, fearing it might cause a backlash.
She simply watched helplessly, asking in a panic, “Classmate Xiao, are you alright? Do you feel unwell somewhere? Let me help you inside to rest for a bit, okay?”
“I’ll have someone call a doctor.”
She turned hurriedly to instruct the nanny, but her arm was caught by Xiao Lou, who was still in the midst of a dizzy spell.
“No, it’s nothing.”
Her face was as white as paper, and tiny beads of sweat were breaking out on her forehead. How could this be nothing?
Wu Yi’s face flushed with anxiety, and her breathing became rapid.
“I can’t just watch you like this. Let me help you inside to rest, and then I’ll call a doctor.”
She gripped Xiao Lou’s arm in return, trying to support her back into the house.
“No, really, no need. I’m fine now.”
Xiao Lou released her hand from her chest and used Wu Yi’s arm to pull herself upright.
Finally, she could breathe smoothly again, and the phantom images before her eyes had vanished. She looked at Wu Yi with a strange expression. Seeing the girl’s flushed face and eyes full of intense worry, she suppressed the confusion in her heart.
Why did I see those strange images? Was it a hallucination?
“Are you truly alright?”
Seeing her insistence, Wu Yi didn’t dare to force her, but she remained uneasy. “It’s very quick for a doctor to come to my house; they’ll be here in fifteen minutes.”
“There is really no need.” Xiao Lou only then realized she was still holding Wu Yi’s arm and quickly let go. “I’m sorry. I probably didn’t sleep well last night, and I felt a bit unwell just now, but I’m better now. Thank you.”
As she looked at Wu Yi, for some reason, her heart felt a faint, lingering discomfort, an indescribable pain, as if someone were pricking her heart over and over with the tip of a needle.
The girl before her was young and beautiful, as radiant as a rose, her face filled with concern. But in the blink of an eye, the scene shifted again. She saw a double image: one moment it was her, and the next it was a cold, frost-like girl in a black dress, bullying her without restraint.
“I’m leaving. Goodbye.”
Leaving behind those words in a state of agitation, she turned and walked away.
Before Wu Yi could speak, she was already several paces away, and she didn’t look back once.
A sense of sorrow at their parting suddenly erupted in the growing distance between them. Wu Yi stared blankly at her receding figure, feeling as if her soul were following her away.
“Miss, the food is going to get cold. Please come inside and eat,” Aunt Liu approached and asked with concern.
Wu Yi seemed completely unaware, still gazing longingly at that tall figure walking further and further away.
How she wished she could turn into an invisible person and follow her every second of the day.
After walking for a distance, Xiao Lou felt the oppressive discomfort in her heart dissipate.
Was that a hallucination just now?
She couldn’t help but look back, and her gaze collided with Wu Yi’s.
Those eyes were bright and filled with worry, along with an emotion that was difficult to define.
Xiao Lou felt the flustered sensation of being caught; she quickly turned her head and quickened her pace.
What is going on? Is something wrong with my body?
Behind her, Wu Yi’s mood was like a roller coaster, from the worry when Xiao Lou turned to leave, to the surprise when she looked back. Her sky shifted between light and dark.
When she saw Xiao Lou move away again, her figure turning past the lush trees and onto the auxiliary road leading to the street, Wu Yi’s heart suddenly jumped into her throat.
Her face was so pale just now; she must be hurting somewhere.
Cars were coming and going on the street. What if she felt unwell again or tripped?
Fear surged like an overwhelming tide. That scene of blood and gore from her previous life felt like a sharp blade, splitting her from head to toe.
Her feet moved faster than her heart. To the astonishment of Aunt Liu and the nannies, she dashed away!
She could no longer stand by and watch Xiao Lou suffer any discomfort, injury, or malaise, not even a little bit, or she would die!
Didn’t she crawl out of hell just to protect her for a lifetime?
“Miss!”
“Don’t wait for me, I have something to do!”
“All security, follow me!”
Four tall men in suits immediately gave chase.
However, they were surprised to find their young mistress, Wu Yi, surreptitiously hiding in the greenery of this garden community, crouching low as she moved toward the exit.
“Miss Yi.”
“Shh, come here, be quiet.”
The four security guards ran over in bewilderment, and Wu Yi leaped out from behind the bushes and tucked herself behind them.
She poked the backs of two guards with her hands.
“Walk side-by-side. Follow that girl who just left my house, but don’t let her notice me.”
“Understood, Miss Yi.”
“Walk closer together, don’t let me be seen,” Wu Yi poked them again.
The four guards were utterly helpless. But for four large men to walk side-by-side on the street was just too bizarre; people who didn’t know better would think they were together!
The four exchanged looks and were about to divide the task when Wu Yi poked them again and issued a new command.
“You, go to the sidewalk across the street and watch her from that angle. If you notice any discomfort, if she looks unwell, or if her condition seems poor, report immediately via walkie-talkie.”
“You, go near her and be alert. Pay special attention to the pedestrians and vehicles around her. Don’t let anyone bump into her, and definitely don’t let her fall or trip.”
“You two, walk side-by-side and block me.”
The security assigned to Wu Yi were all handpicked by Wu Shanyin and Wu Guilan, with her personal safety as the top priority. As long as her safety was ensured, they followed her every command.
Two guards moved immediately.
The remaining two walked side-by-side in front of her, their tall frames completely shielding her.
Even so, Wu Yi clutched the hem of one guard’s jacket, ducking her head to peek through the gap between their necks.
“Ask them. How is she?”
“Calling the front, what is the situation?”
“All normal.”
“Is she uncomfortable at all? Is she walking steadily?”
The walkie-talkie was silent for a few seconds before a reply came: “Everything is normal. Her walking posture is also normal, though her pace is a bit fast.”
Wu Yi was greatly dissatisfied. “Her complexion! I’m talking about her complexion! Is her face still pale?”
The guard felt a bit of a breakdown inside. He secretly pulled out the binoculars he carried and looked. He replied: “Her face is very white; I can’t be sure if it’s pale.”
Wu Yi was so annoyed she didn’t speak for a long while.
At this hour, the street was busy with people and cars, and the sidewalk was at the peak of the rush hour. Passing pedestrians couldn’t help but stare. The two guards felt extremely uncomfortable and suddenly stopped.
Wu Yi quickly poked them. “What happened?”
She couldn’t help but peek out. She saw Xiao Lou stop, looking as if she were about to turn around. Scared, she quickly ducked back. “Why did you stop? Did she turn around?”
“No, she went into a shop nearby.”
Wu Yi breathed a sigh of relief.
A moment later, Xiao Lou came out carrying a plastic bag.
Wu Yi poked the guard. “What did she buy?”
The guard hesitated for a moment. “Sanitary products.”
After walking a bit further, Xiao Lou stopped at a crossroad, intending to cross the street. The guards also stopped.
“Miss Yi, are we going across too?”
“Of course! Have the guards in front cross with her. Help her watch the cars on both sides. You must watch closely!”
“Miss Yi, there are traffic lights.”
Wu Yi didn’t say anything. I know that, of course, but I’m scared. I’m really scared. Just thinking about that bloody scene from her previous life made her heart ache so much she couldn’t breathe.
Is hell scary? Having crawled out of it, she wanted to say it truly is terrifying.
But no matter how scary it was, nothing compared to the moment she lost Xiao Lou!
After crossing the street and walking straight, they reached Xiao Lou’s dormitory building. She remained hidden behind the guards, watching her enter the main gate, pass the flowerbeds, turn a corner, and disappear from sight.
Only then did she turn around with a sense of melancholy.
The guards all gathered around her. “Miss Yi, the car is here. Let’s go back. Aunt Liu is very worried about you.”
But Wu Yi was thinking to herself: It’s time to build my own strength, otherwise I won’t even have the capital to protect her.
Should I get Song Hao and沈青青 over here?
Lou Lou’s complexion was so frightening today; she must be unwell somewhere. What exactly do I need to do to confirm she’s really okay?
She walked silently along the riverbank. The evening breeze blew through her hair and her skirt swayed gently. The night, the trees, the city walls, and the flowing water all naturally became her backdrop.
Students passing by couldn’t help but stare, marveled by her stunning beauty.
But seeing the four security guards following her every move and the black luxury car trailing slowly beside her, not a single person dared to approach.
They only stole glances at her, secretly wondering why this beautiful and moving girl was shrouded in such sadness.
After a long while, Wu Yi finally looked up, her eyes shining. “I’ve got it.”
Xiao Lou, carrying the plastic bag, pushed open the dormitory door and was met head-on by Mo Qinghan.
She happily stood up from her seat and approached. “Lou, where have you been? I’ve been waiting in your dorm for so long.”
Yu Pingping curled her lip, finding her dramatic. “It’s only been an hour.”
Mo Qinghan ignored her.
Xiao Lou walked to the desk and handed her the bag. “Here, what you asked me to get.”
Mo Qinghan’s delight grew. She took the bag, peeked inside, and immediately flashed a sweet smile. “Lou, you’re the best. Thank you.”
“What did you buy? Let me see see,” Yu Pingping asked curiously.
Mo Qinghan quickly pulled the bag shut. “Just girl stuff.”
“Is it pads? Room leader, help me get some next time too.”
“You can buy them yourself. I only helped today because I had things to do anyway,” Mo Qinghan said with a hint of reluctance. She didn’t like Xiao Lou being at the beck and call of others and even felt Yu Pingping was doing it just to spite her.
“Che, I like it when the room leader gets them for me. Is that a problem?”
Wang Huan, who was lying on the top bunk watching videos, burst out laughing. “You two are truly enemies; you bicker the moment you meet. Why don’t you two form a bickering CP and start livestreaming? You’d probably go viral.”
Yu Pingping and Mo Qinghan turned their heads simultaneously. “No!”
Wang Huan laughed even harder and asked Chen Pengpeng on the lower bunk, “Pengpeng, don’t you agree?”
Chen Pengpeng spoke slowly and softly. “Mhm, interesting.”
Seeing that Xiao Lou was ignoring her, Yu Pingping drawled out, “Room leaderrr.”
Xiao Lou felt helpless. She was naturally reserved, but because she had accidentally ended up as the room leader during military training, she had grown close to her roommates. This was especially true for Yu Pingping, who also came from the countryside. Since the two of them often hung out on campus, she finally nodded. “Alright, then.”
Mo Qinghan pursed her lips. She couldn’t remember what she had done in the past to make Yu Pingping always target her. Choosing to disregard it, she pulled Xiao Lou aside and asked, “You said you had things to do. Where did you go?”
Xiao Lou grabbed her water bottle and took a few gulps before saying, “I went to that student’s house.”
“You went to find Wu Yi?!” Mo Qinghan cried out in shock.
Yu Pingping frowned. “Why are you shouting? You startled me.”
Mo Qinghan realized she had lost her composure and quickly calmed down, pressing further. “Lou, didn’t you promise me you wouldn’t take that tutoring job? Why did you still go to her house? Did she make things difficult for you?”
She frantically looked Xiao Lou over, fearing she had been harmed.
Xiao Lou felt bewildered and found the reaction strange, but seeing the terror in the other girl’s eyes, she quickly reassured her. “Don’t worry, I’m fine. No one made things difficult for me. I just went there to explain in person that I can’t take the job.”
The panic in Mo Qinghan’s eyes slowly subsided. She asked somewhat skeptically, “And she agreed?”
“Why wouldn’t she? I explained it clearly and came back.”
“So you’re really not taking the tutoring job?”
“Really.”
Yu Pingping grumbled, “The room leader wanted to tutor to help with her living expenses. It’s not like you don’t know her family is struggling.”
Mo Qinghan went silent for a moment. “I know. I’ll help her.”
Xiao Lou felt a bit awkward. “It’s fine. I’m planning to aim for the scholarship this semester. If I get it, it’ll be enough.”
Mo Qinghan said immediately, “You definitely will. You’re so smart and you study so hard. First place for the scholarship is a sure thing.”
Chen Pengpeng, who was focused on her book, looked up at her with a hint of dissatisfaction. She was also a high achiever and intended to push for the scholarship; Mo Qinghan’s words grated on her ears.
Xiao Lou was a bit embarrassed by the praise and paused before asking, “Did you need something from me?”
Mo Qinghan was still deep in thought. If Wu Yi really didn’t make things difficult for her and didn’t insist on the tutoring, did that mean she hadn’t returned? She breathed a massive sigh of relief.
Hearing the question, she hurried to say, “My three roommates all have dates and none of them are coming back to the dorm tonight. I’m a bit scared to be alone. I wanted to ask if you could stay with me.”
She quickly added, “Or I can come sleep in your dorm. Is that okay?”
Xiao Lou found this difficult. After hesitating for a long while, she still refused. “I’m sorry, I’m not used to sleeping with other people.”
“Oh…” Mo Qinghan’s eyes filled with disappointment.
Yu Pingping couldn’t help but chime in, “If you don’t mind, you can sleep at the foot of my bed. Don’t say I’m targeting you after this.”
Mo Qinghan looked back at her in surprise, then said, “It’s okay. I thought about it, and I’d rather not trouble everyone. I have to get used to being alone eventually.”
Wang Huan added, “The main thing is the beds are too narrow, and no one likes sharing. If you’re really scared, just leave your desk lamp on and sleep with some music.”
Xiao Lou felt a bit guilty and took the initiative to say, “I’m truly just not used to it. My apologies.”
Seeing her sincere concern, Mo Qinghan felt much better. Her face brightened with a smile again. “It’s fine, I understand you.”
Xiao Lou blinked slightly. “Thank you.”
Mo Qinghan saw her walk to the desk to pour ink and spread out some paper. “Are you going to practice calligraphy?”
“Mhm. It’s a daily task. It’s getting late, you should head back and rest.”
Mo Qinghan pulled over Yu Pingping’s chair and sat down beside her, looking at her from the side. “I really like the ‘Four Arts.’ Especially calligraphy and painting. I can’t do it myself, but I love watching.”
“I won’t make a sound. Go ahead and write.”
Since she was being so supportive, Xiao Lou didn’t say anything more. She spread the paper and began her practice.
Yu Pingping also put down her book and leaned in.
“The room leader’s Slender Gold script is really good. It has such… character.”
Mo Qinghan gazed at Xiao Lou’s profile without blinking and added, “Yes, her calligraphy and paintings are full of spirit. They have the aura of a master.”
“Ooh, check out the fancy vocabulary.”
Mo Qinghan didn’t respond further, she just watched intently. Yu Pingping glanced at her, feeling that she had become somewhat different.
The next day after school, Yu Pingping and Mo Qinghan both had things to do, so Xiao Lou stayed in the study hall alone to do her schoolwork.
From seven to eight-thirty, for a full hour and a half, she was buried in her books. After finishing her assignments, she moved on to previewing new lessons.
If she could get the first-place scholarship of 50,000 yuan this term, her tuition and living expenses for the next semester would be covered. It would take a huge weight off her parents’ shoulders.
She set down her pen and looked at her tablet screen, smiling as she reviewed her completed notes. She felt confident.
“Hm, out of water?”
She reached for her cup, only to find it empty. It was still early; she could review for another half hour.
She took her cup out of the classroom. In the hallway, a few boys were huddled together, whispering.
“She’s so pretty!”
“Definitely top-tier beauty status. Like a celebrity.”
“Which department is she from? Is she a freshman this year?”
“Go ask for her contact info.”
“You go, you go…”
The boys were playfully shoving each other, occasionally glancing toward the railing opposite them before breaking into low laughter.
Xiao Lou frowned, feeling a bit of distaste. She looked over to see a girl with her back to the hallway, leaning against the railing.
Her jet-black, lustrous hair cascaded over her shoulders. Her ankle-length skirt was light and ethereal, giving her a fairy-like quality and outlining her graceful, slender figure. With books tucked under her arm and a poised, upright stance, she had an air of scholarly elegance.
Even without seeing her face, one could tell how stunning she must be.
Xiao Lou looked away, then suddenly felt she looked familiar. She couldn’t help but look back.
At that moment, Wu Yi turned her head.
Their eyes met. Xiao Lou was surprised; Wu Yi was delighted.
“Student Wu Yi, what are you doing here?”
Wu Yi smiled slightly. “Classmate Xiao, I came to find you for help with my studies. You didn’t forget, did you?”
Xiao Lou remembered the agreement from last night. She hadn’t expected her to be so proactive.
“Of course, I didn’t forget. When did you get here? Why didn’t you call me?”
“I saw how focused you were, Classmate Xiao. I figured I had some classical prose to memorize anyway, so I just fit it in. To my surprise, I felt inspired and memorized it all.”
Wu Yi blinked. “It seems Huainan University is a place of scholarly excellence. Even memorizing things is more efficient here than anywhere else.”
Her words made Xiao Lou laugh.
The psychological burden of having kept someone waiting vanished instantly, replaced by a sense of ease. She shook her cup. “Are you thirsty? I’m going to get some water; I’ll get a cup for you too.”
“That would be great.”
