After Mistaking My Sister’s Friend for a Scumbag Alpha - Chapter 1
“What did the doctor say?”
“A concussion. It might cause some temporary memory loss or confusion, but otherwise, there are no major issues.”
Jiang Qianyi stood in the hospital corridor while she spoke on the phone, her attention divided as she kept a watchful eye on the situation inside the patient room.
Just half an hour ago, she had received a call informing her that her younger sister, Jiang Wanyi, had been in a car accident. Upon hearing she was at the hospital, Qianyi dropped everything to rush over. She was currently on the line with their parents, who happened to be abroad and were unable to make it back immediately.
Inside the room, Jiang Wanyi’s mind remained a chaotic mess.
This accident had triggered a sudden awakening of her self-awareness, revealing the startling truth that she was merely an insignificant supporting character in a tragic ABO novel. While she could not recall the specific title of the book, the plot points remained vivid in her mind. The “Omega” lead who suffered through the story was her own sister, and the “Alpha” lead was someone she knew personally.
That Alpha was her sister’s close friend, the President of the Luocheng Chamber of Commerce named Shangguan Shi. To the outside world, she appeared refined and dignified, but in reality, she was a quintessential “scumbag Alpha.”
The novel began with the Jiang family’s company facing a crisis. To resolve the disaster, Jiang Wanyi’s sister entered a marriage alliance with Shangguan Shi. After the wedding, her sister fell in love with the Alpha, and the two shared a relatively sweet period. However, because her sister struggled to conceive, Shangguan Shi’s parents began to relentlessly harass and insult her, treatment that her sister endured in silence.
Later in the story, the Alpha had a drunken encounter that resulted in a “Green Tea” antagonist becoming pregnant. Shangguan Shi kept the woman hidden in a separate villa, but the mistress eventually showed up at the house to provoke the sister. Heartbroken, her sister confronted the Alpha, who stubbornly denied everything before striking the mistress so hard she lost the child. When her sister discovered the truth and sought a divorce, the Alpha refused to let go or repent. Simply because she saw her sister smile at another Alpha on the street, Shangguan Shi accused her of infidelity.
Using that false accusation as an excuse, the Alpha spiraled into madness and imprisoned her sister in a basement. She subjected her to constant abuse under the delusional justification of “love.”
The Alpha used the Jiang family business as leverage to force her sister into submission. Whenever her sister showed a trace of sorrow, Shangguan Shi would verbally and physically assault her, only to lock her away again while she went out to drown her own regrets in alcohol. After repeating this cycle several times, the Alpha slept with the mistress again. The mistress became pregnant once more, but this time, she developed a problem with her eyes.
To satisfy the mistress, the Alpha divorced the sister, moved the other woman into the villa, and forcibly transplanted her sister’s corneas into the mistress. Even then, she kept her sister imprisoned in the basement, subjecting her to daily humiliation, beatings, and sexual violence.
Eventually, with the help of a friend, her sister faked her death and escaped abroad. In a fit of rage, the Alpha physically caused the mistress to miscarry yet again and transformed into a cold, terrifying tycoon who allowed no one near her.
Five years later, her sister’s vision was restored, and she returned to the country as a successful professional. The Alpha recognized her instantly and launched an aggressive pursuit. Although her sister initially refused her, she was constantly cornered, kissed, and even forced into bed. Eventually, her sister discovered she was pregnant. On a rainy night, the Alpha knelt and shed a few tears, which was somehow enough for her sister to forgive everything and reach a “happy ending.”
As she finished recalling the plot, Jiang Wanyi’s fury reached a breaking point. she wanted nothing more than to find that scumbag Alpha and the brainless author of the book to tear them both to pieces.
After a few moments, the throbbing pain in her head forced her to calm down, and she began to organize the timeline in her mind.
Today was…
Her phone had met an honorable end in the accident, so she could not check the date. Just as Jiang Qianyi finished her call and walked back in, Jiang Wanyi asked immediately, “Sister, what’s the date today?”
Jiang Qianyi glanced at her phone and replied, “October twenty-eighth.”
In the book, the date of the wedding between her sister and the Alpha was November twenty-eighth.
There was only one month left.
Seeing her sister clench her fists, Jiang Qianyi asked with concern, “Is your head hurting? Don’t worry, the doctor said your injuries aren’t serious. You just need proper rest and you’ll recover quickly.”
Hearing her sister’s gentle voice while thinking of the Alpha’s disgusting cruelty made Jiang Wanyi squeeze her fists even tighter.
“Sister, help me buy a new phone first. I have something important to tell you.”
Jiang Qianyi called her assistant and instructed them to bring up the latest model of a specific brand along with two dinner sets. Afterward, she turned back to her sister and asked, “How much money do you need?”
Jiang Wanyi was twenty years old and a second-year student in the Film and Television Performance department at Luocheng Arts University. Although she occasionally took jobs as a magazine or web-store model, the money she earned was never enough to cover her expenses, so she still relied on a monthly allowance. This was usually provided by their parents, but if she ran short, she would ask her sister.
“I’m not asking for money,” Jiang Wanyi clarified. “I wanted to tell you…”
Before she could finish, Jiang Qianyi’s phone began to ring. Jiang Wanyi clearly saw the name “President” flash on the screen.
It was that scumbag Alpha.
Jiang Qianyi saw the caller ID as well and stepped to the side. “I need to take this first.”
She walked to the corner and answered the call. “I can’t make it right now. My sister was in a car accident. Yes… mm, alright… we’ll meet tonight.”
Jiang Wanyi could not hear the person on the other end, but her sister’s words were enough. Her sister was going to meet that Alpha tonight?
Absolutely not.
The Alpha’s evil nature wasn’t something that would be born after the marriage; it existed because she was inherently wicked, and she only became brazen enough to show it after they were wed. Jiang Wanyi could not let her sister go to a private meeting with that monster.
“Sister,” Jiang Wanyi whispered with a pitiful expression, reaching out to grab her sister’s arm. “My head hurts so much. Can you stay here and stay with me for the rest of the day?”
“Of course,” Jiang Qianyi agreed without the slightest hesitation.
“Just stay…” Realizing how quickly she had consented, Jiang Wanyi’s carefully prepared emotional plea came to an abrupt halt. “Weren’t you supposed to meet someone tonight?”
“Oh, you mean Shangguan?” Jiang Qianyi pulled her arm away and picked up a glass of water from the nightstand to take a sip. “She heard you were hospitalized and said she would come by tonight to see you and discuss some work at the same time.”
The Alpha was likely using her as an excuse, considering she and Shangguan Shi weren’t close at all. Shangguan Shi was ten years older than her, and when Wanyi was just a small child, the other woman was already a young adult. There had never been an opportunity for them to bond.
When they were younger, Jiang Qianyi played with Shangguan Shi often and would occasionally bring Wanyi along. While the two older girls studied at the desk, played sports, or discussed business, Wanyi would simply play with building blocks on the carpet nearby.
Regardless, they weren’t close, so Shangguan Shi’s visit was definitely a pretext. She was coming for work or for her sister. That scumbag must have had designs on her sister long before the wedding!
Anger flared in Jiang Wanyi’s heart again as she told her sister directly, “I don’t want to see her. Tell her not to come.”
“What’s wrong? Did she do something to upset you?” Jiang Qianyi’s eyelids lifted slightly in surprise.
“She hasn’t done anything to me,” Jiang Wanyi muttered. “I just don’t like her. I think she has ulterior motives toward you.”
“Toward me?”
Jiang Qianyi suddenly laughed. “Have you been reading those rumors online again?”
Since the year before last, the two families had collaborated on a major government-linked project, leading both women to appear frequently in the news. Because they were of similar age, unmarried, and highly attractive, fans online were quick to “ship” them together. Even though there was no romance between them, the internet was full of fanart, stories, and edited videos. The rumors were so pervasive that even Qianyi thought some of the stories looked convincing.
Jiang Wanyi looked at her sister’s relaxed smile and knew that if she claimed to have “awakened self-awareness,” her sister would just think she had brain damage from the crash.
“There’s no smoke without fire,” Wanyi insisted.
“You’re overthinking it. She and I are simply friends and business partners.”
In the book, her sister had said the exact same thing.
Jiang Wanyi pressed her lips together and lowered her head. After a few seconds, she looked up and asked seriously, “Sister, do you really not have even a little bit of affection for Shangguan Shi?”
“I have the kind of affection one has for a friend, but there is absolutely no possibility of it developing into a romantic relationship.”
“Then if the company starts to fail, would you marry her to save it?”
At that, Jiang Qianyi’s brow furrowed slightly. “Wanwan, what kind of strange novels have you been reading lately?”
“I haven’t. I’m just giving an example. If the company is in trouble and a marriage alliance could save the stock market, would you marry her?” Jiang Wanyi stared at her sister without blinking, terrified of missing even a flicker of an expression.
Seeing how tense and serious her sister was, Jiang Qianyi began to consider the question earnestly. She did not like Alphas, but if the company truly reached a point of life or death and the marriage partner was someone as “frigid” as Shangguan Shi, she could probably endure it for the sake of appearances.
“I probably would,” Jiang Qianyi answered.
Jiang Wanyi felt like a piece of grass that had suddenly withered away.
“Don’t worry,” Jiang Qianyi added. “The Jiang Group isn’t going to collapse anytime soon. You don’t need to stress about these things.”
But I’m worried about you, Jiang Wanyi thought, though she did not say it out loud.
The assistant soon arrived with the new phone and dinner. As soon as Wanyi got the device, she prepared to turn it on, but she caught her reflection in the dark screen. Her head was wrapped in white bandages, and beneath those bandages, there was nothing else.
Because the wound was hidden under her hair, her beautiful long locks had been completely shaved off. She had been so preoccupied with the story and the scumbag Alpha that she only realized it now. The thought of looking like this and having to see people like this for a while, made her mood sink even further.
******
After dinner and logging into every account she could remember, Jiang Wanyi called her manager to explain the situation. She was signed with Dreamseeker Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Jiang Group, so her manager was naturally understanding about the accident. She was told to focus on her recovery and not worry about work.
Almost as soon as the call ended, the doorbell rang. Jiang Qianyi stood up to open it.
The first thing to enter the room was a large bouquet of white carnations, followed by the female Alpha.
To be fair, for someone chosen as the lead of a “scumbag Alpha” novel, Shangguan Shi was undeniably stunning. She possessed a rare lineage with natural silver hair and golden eyes. As an Alpha, she was taller than most women, with a straight bridge to her nose and a clear, bright gaze. She was a true beauty.
But she was a scumbag.
Thinking of the atrocities this person committed against her sister in the book, Jiang Wanyi could not feel a single shred of goodwill toward her, no matter how beautiful she appeared.
