- After Mistakenly Marking My Ex’s Older Sister, the Disabled Alpha Stood Up
- Chapter 8 - The Person in Yan Qingruo’s Heart
At the supermarket, the police who had rushed over already had the thieves surrounded.
As soon as those stationed on the perimeter saw Jin Yunxi approach, they instinctively snapped to attention and saluted in unison. Jin Yunxi gave them a faint nod but did not break her stride, heading straight inside.
By the time she entered, the supermarket was already in chaos. The crowd surged about like a flock of headless flies, the aisles jammed so tightly that not even a drop of water could pass.
Leaning on her cane, she forced her pace quicker, and finally—she saw Yan Qingruo, eyes closed, with her anxious friend hovering at her side.
“Yan Qingruo, are you all right?” Jin Yunxi’s hand tightened around Yan Qingruo’s cold fingers.
Even unconscious, Yan Qingruo’s hand clutched at the Alpha’s jacket, her fingertips tinged faintly pink, like a plum branch snapped off in the snow.
Half-conscious, she thought she heard Jin Yunxi call her name. That usually steady voice carried a rare, subtle tremor. She wondered if it was only her imagination.
That person… how could it be her?
She wanted to be sure, to remember everything about Jin Yunxi, but her mind felt wrung dry, incapable of thought.
The instant the onlookers recognized Jin Yunxi, the frantic uproar stilled into silence.
“Secretary-General? Why is she here?”
“Yeah, and who’s that woman she’s holding?”
They had all seen Yan Qingmei before. The woman in Jin Yunxi’s arms looked similar, but on closer inspection wasn’t her at all. And yet, the Secretary-General’s expression seemed… tense.
Someone secretly filmed a short clip and uploaded it online. Instantly, the speculation exploded.

Reporters, sharp-nosed as bloodhounds, came swarming, shouting as they waved their cameras: “Let us through! Let us in!”
Female bodyguards quickly formed a wall of black suits, barring anyone from getting closer.
“Step aside! Step aside!” barked the law enforcement squad as they arrived, flanked by the research team that had developed the stolen reagent. “Who’s blocking us? Stand down! You’re obstructing official duties!”
Seeing the wall of bodyguards, the squad leader cursed aloud. “You rich types think you can just surround the scene like this?!”
He was not just any officer—he was the deputy captain of law enforcement, and also deputy commander of the Queen’s personal guard. Arrogant by nature, he’d been idling at his post that afternoon, drinking and playing cards with his men, when the order for emergency reinforcement came.
By the time they rushed over, the scene had already been cordoned off by bodyguards. They heard the stolen reagent had been injected into a woman, and immediately suspected her as well. The reagent was a new development of the Atlans Empire, and they feared enemy spies had orchestrated everything.
With a wave of his hand, the deputy captain barked, “Take that woman away!”
“Who dares take her away?!”
The cold, commanding voice froze him in place. He recognized it instantly—it was the voice he heard daily delivering the Queen’s decrees.
“S–Secretary-General?” His arrogance deflated instantly. “Why are you here?”
Lu Ge, who had been terrified that someone would drag Yan Qingruo off, suddenly straightened, emboldened by Jin Yunxi’s presence. Her eyes darted slyly between them. The Secretary-General’s arm was firmly around Yan Qingruo’s waist.
Tsk. This looks like more than business.
A wild thought struck her. Everyone knew Yan Qingmei was the Secretary-General’s fiancée. Then… was Yan Qingruo perhaps her sister-in-law?
“No, Secretary-General, you can’t take her,” the deputy captain tried again, though his tone had lost its edge. “May I ask who she is to you? What if she really is a spy—”
Even if Jin Yunxi claimed her as kin, they would refuse.
Jin Yunxi cut him off, her voice ringing clear as steel: “She is my wife. Is that enough to let me take her?”
The silence that fell was absolute—one could hear a pin drop.
Lu Ge’s jaw nearly hit the floor. “You… you two…”
So her best friend Yan Qingruo’s secret “wife” was none other than Secretary-General Jin?!
Hadn’t everyone believed Yan Qingmei was the one?
Even the deputy captain was stunned. “Then… what about Yan Qingmei?”
But Jin Yunxi had no time to waste on them. Yan Qingruo’s condition could not wait. She had access to the best medical resources in the country—far beyond the cold hands of law enforcement.
Her bodyguards had already prepared a stretcher. Outside, the ambulance sirens wailed.

At the hospital, Jin Yunxi kept vigil at the bedside, her gaze fixed on Yan Qingruo’s face. When Lu Ge arrived, still reeling from shock, she could only stare at the Secretary-General’s focused expression until reality finally sank in.
This wasn’t a dream.
Jin Yunxi stayed there for over an hour. When the doctor arrived, she frowned deeply but said nothing. The doctor, nervous, hurried to explain:
“The reagent has affected Madam’s brain. Combined with the fever, it may cause some memory impairment.”
He emphasized that recovery would take time and that she must not be agitated.
When he left, Jin Yunxi’s frown only deepened. The ward was warm, but her legs had long gone stiff from standing. Still, she didn’t move.
Lu Ge, awkwardly hovering nearby, watched Jin Yunxi’s flawless profile and thought, Qingruo is so lucky. The Secretary-General truly cares about her.
Then she remembered the “one hundred daily doting notes” Qingruo once showed her—sweet diary entries recording little moments between her and her wife. Lu Ge hadn’t even finished reading before Qingruo snatched them back, storing them away in her cloud folder, refusing to let her continue.
Of course, Lu Ge thought. It’s such a treasure, she wouldn’t even let her best friend see it all.
No wonder. It turned out the “beloved wife” at the heart of all those entries was Secretary-General Jin.
If it had been her, she wouldn’t have been able to resist showing off either.
Her gaze turned starry as she looked at Jin Yunxi again. Accomplished in her career and so devoted to her wife. Wuwuwu, her dear Qingruo really is too blessed.
When Jin Yunxi shifted slightly, Lu Ge hurried over like a loyal puppy. “Secretary-General, hello. I’m Yan Qingruo’s best friend. If you’d like to rest, I can stay here with her.”
“Thank you,” Jin Yunxi said quietly.
Lu Ge nearly melted. She waved her hands in flustered denial. “No, no, it’s nothing! Qingruo told me you treat her wonderfully—that you’re the perfect Alpha, and that she’s happy to be married to you.”
Jin Yunxi: “?”
Assuming the Secretary-General knew everything, Lu Ge quickly added, “Don’t worry, Qingruo never revealed your name. She only said she had a ‘white moonlight’ in her heart. So it turns out that the one she met three years ago was you! Ah, you two really are the perfect couple…”
But the rest of her chatter never reached Jin Yunxi’s ears. Her gaze flickered sharply.
Three years ago?
She hadn’t even known Yan Qingruo three years ago.
So… was there someone else hidden in Yan Qingruo’s heart?
Her lips pressed into a thin line, the stiffness in her legs worsening. The knuckles gripping her cane whitened.
“Then I’ll trouble you to watch over her,” she said curtly.
Without another word, she turned and walked away.
