After Marrying the Disabled Demon Lord as a Substitute, I Ran Away with His Child - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
After Zuo Siqiu finished explaining her plan, Xuan Mo remained silent for a long time—so long that Zuo Siqiu thought he had gone mute. Finally, he spoke, “Anything else?”
Is this not enough?
Zuo Siqiu was speechless.
As expected of a Demon Sect Leader, he was truly different from the noble and upright protagonist of the original novel; his mind was quite wicked.
Nevertheless, she tried to persuade him earnestly, “I know you want your ‘heroic vigor’ to be renowned throughout the world, Venerable One, but these things must be approached gradually. If we overdo it all at once, it might have the opposite effect and arouse suspicion.”
“Besides, your image is already very impressive, Venerable One. Even Protector Yan has marveled at it several times.”
Xuan Mo: “I want my ‘heroic vigor’ to be renowned throughout the world?”
Zuo Siqiu: “???”
Does the Demon Sovereign not want that? Could I have misread him? Every step I take involves my life; I can’t afford to misread him!
Under Zuo Siqiu’s suspicious and guilty gaze, Xuan Mo nodded. “You are indeed the one who understands this Seat best.”
He even repeated his affirmation, “In this Xuanyun Sect, no one has ever been as sensible as you.”
Zuo Siqiu still felt a twinge of doubt. Why did Xuan Mo’s words sound sarcastic?
It shouldn’t be. In the original book, Zuo Siqiu was killed precisely because the rumor that “the Demon Sovereign is impotent” spread throughout the cultivation world. Since staying in the Demon Sect, she had sensed that the disciples cared deeply about their leader’s virility. During the previous two fakes, the Demon Sovereign hadn’t stopped her, and during the second time, he couldn’t help but stare at the red mark on her neck.
Everything pointed to her judgment being correct.
Still a bit anxious, Zuo Siqiu confirmed again, “Then I shall proceed with the methods I just mentioned?”
Xuan Mo nodded, but the look in his eyes still made Zuo Siqiu a bit nervous. She thought back carefully and then had an epiphany.
Xuan Mo had asked if she had other ideas, which meant he was still unsatisfied with her proposals.
After some deep thought, Zuo Siqiu tentatively suggested again, “Or perhaps, when we are in front of the sect members, we could act even more intimate than before? That would better demonstrate how I have succumbed to your charm, Venerable One.”
For example, holding hands or putting an arm around shoulders—Zuo Siqiu could accept that.
Xuan Mo nodded, offering no rejection at all.
…
Three days later, in the early morning, countless Xuanyun Sect disciples were hidden outside Xuan Mo’s grotto.
Yan Jiaojiao pulled on the Right Protector Blood Demon’s sleeve, her fist pressed against her teeth as she bit down lightly, her voice trembling with excitement. “It’s been three days! The Venerable One and the Lady have been inside for three days and three nights without coming out!”
“Three days and three nights! Can you believe it? Do you think the Lady’s slender body can endure the Sovereign’s insatiable demands?”
Blood Demon bared his sharp canine teeth, his mouth twitching involuntarily. “I truly didn’t expect that the Sect Master, who is hundreds of years old, would act like a young greenhorn after getting married.”
Yan Jiaojiao pulled out a storybook she had prepared for Zuo Siqiu. “I told you to read more to broaden your horizons, but you wouldn’t listen. If you had read the wedding night scenes in this book, you’d know that men simply cannot resist a charming wife’s allure at a time like this.”
Blood Demon’s mouth twitched even harder. “Those are storybooks for mortals. The willpower of a cultivator is thousands of times stronger than that of a mortal.”
Yan Jiaojiao looked toward the grotto and shook her head with an expression that said, ‘You understand nothing.’
Inside the bedroom, Xuan Mo listened to the whispered discussions outside while watching Zuo Siqiu at the dressing table, painting dark circles under her eyes. He looked on with great interest.
After finishing, Zuo Siqiu turned to face him. “How is it? Do these dark circles look realistic?”
Xuan Mo: “A cultivator need only perform a simple hand seal for such minor blemishes to vanish instantly.”
Zuo Siqiu replied, “But haven’t I been ‘drained’ by you? I’m too exhausted to perform a hand seal.”
Xuan Mo: “…”
“Exactly, I’ll go out like this and let Protector Yan help me clear them up.”
“However, since these dark circles are fake, I’ll need you to cooperate when Protector Yan acts, Venerable One. Please cast a Cleansing Spell on me then.”
Xuan Mo: “Acceptable.”
When Zuo Siqiu and Xuan Mo opened the grotto doors and appeared before everyone, Yan Jiaojiao instantly rushed to Zuo Siqiu’s side. Seeing the shadows under her eyes, she covered her mouth and cried out exaggeratedly, “Heavens! How did your eyes get so dark!”
Zuo Siqiu acted surprised. “I… I didn’t realize my eyes were so dark.”
“Oh dear, I don’t even have the spiritual energy left to cast a spell… Protector Yan, can you help me?”
With a flick of her finger, Yan Jiaojiao made the shadows disappear. She then grasped Zuo Siqiu’s soft hands. “Why is your voice so raspy, too? The Xuanyun Sect has been so quiet these past few days you could hear a pin drop.”
Zuo Siqiu looked shyly at Xuan Mo.
Xuan Mo didn’t need to explain; Yan Jiaojiao provided her own logic: “I see! The Venerable One must have set up a silencing barrier.”
After this performance, the Xuanyun Sect spent the next three days discussing “the three days and three nights of the Sect Master and Lady’s reunion.” The sect hadn’t been this lively or spirited in ages.
Even Granny Gu smiled while tending to Xuan Mo. “If I had known that marrying the Sect Master off would bring him this much vitality, we should have looked for a suitable woman a hundred years ago.”
Xuan Mo remarked, “I am merely watching her toss and turn; it is quite amusing.”
Granny Gu chided him, “What kind of talk is that? Given your current health, having a partner who is so ‘active’ is your good fortune. How can you say it’s just amusing?”
“You should also be more considerate of the Lady. After all, having to engage in dual cultivation with you must be much more exhausting for her than for other women.”
Xuan Mo didn’t explain; he only gave a light chuckle.
…
While everyone thought she was exhausted, Zuo Siqiu was actually full of energy. She sat at the entrance of the grotto, whispering with Yan Jiaojiao.
Yan Jiaojiao: “Lady, you must read this treasure I’ve kept for a long time. Once you finish this, winning over a coldhearted Sect Master will be no problem at all.”
Zuo Siqiu’s mouth twitched as she was handed a book titled The Domineering Demon Sovereign’s Honey-Sweet Little Wife.
She tucked the book away and leaned closer to Yan Jiaojiao. “Could I ask you for a favor?”
Yan Jiaojiao patted her chest. “Lady, just say the word!”
Zuo Siqiu said, “I’d like you to help me find someone. Ten years ago, my sister left to travel, but she never returned. Occasionally, however, gifts and jade slip messages from her would appear in my residence. I want to find her. Could you help me look into it?”
Yan Jiaojiao: “That shouldn’t be difficult. What is her name? Which sect is she from, and what cultivation method does she use? Do you have a portrait?”
Zuo Siqiu shared all the information she knew.
Yan Jiaojiao: “Rest assured, I’ll arrange for it immediately and let you know when there’s news.”
Zuo Siqiu thanked her, her expression turning slightly sheepish. “One more thing.”
Yan Jiaojiao nodded.
Zuo Siqiu pulled out a Grade 2 Qi-Replenishing Pill. “This is a pill I refined during my seclusion. I wonder if it could be sold in the Xuanyun Sect’s shops? I will, of course, give the sect its customary share of the profits.”
Yan Jiaojiao narrowed her eyes on the pill. “Why does it smell so sweet?”
Zuo Siqiu pulled out an extra Grade 1 Peach Qi-Replenishing Pill. “It probably picked up the scent from this one; I kept them together.”
Yan Jiaojiao took the peach-flavored pill, examined it, and nodded in praise. “This pill smells so ‘girly.’ Those female cultivators will surely love it. You should make more of these in the future.”
Girly?
Zuo Siqiu was startled and glanced back into Xuan Mo’s grotto. She wondered if the Demon Sovereign had heard how his Left Protector described the peach-flavored pills.
And Protector Yan, you are a female cultivator yourself! Why talk about “those” female cultivators as if you aren’t one?
