After Losing My Memory, I Went After My Archenemy - Chapter 36
“What exactly is going on? Why is Chairman Xu, who we’ve cooperated with for so many years, suddenly canceling the order?”
“I don’t know, I just received the notice this morning.”
“Chairman Xu is our biggest client. Without him, the company’s annual profit will decrease by at least 30%, which is a huge blow to a listed company.”
“The public relations department has already sent people over. I don’t know if anything can be salvaged.”
“We’re about to go into a meeting. How are we going to explain this to the top management?”
The Sales Department of the Xia Mining Group was in chaos early that morning, and the news quickly reached the President’s Office.
At that time, the third son of the Xia family, Xia Jianchun, was discussing his new commercial expansion plan with the group’s boss, Xia Jianping. Hearing the news, Xia Jianchun confidently took on the heavy responsibility, wanting to help his elder brother solve the problem.
“Can you handle it?”
Xia Jianping expressed doubt, after all, he knew better than anyone how capable his third brother was.
“I will absolutely give you a satisfactory result, Big Brother.”
Xia Jianchun patted his chest, full of confidence.
Xia Jianping’s eyes slightly changed, and he said seriously, “It’s a satisfactory result for the Group, not just for me personally.”
“Big Brother’s criticism is noted. I’ll set off immediately to meet with Chairman Xu.”
After complimenting his brother, Xia Jianchun sheepishly got up and left.
After a two-hour flight on a private jet, Xia Jianchun arrived at his destination. When he rushed to Chairman Xu’s office, he discovered a competitor of their group, also one of the top mining companies in the industry, was inside.
They seemed to have just finished discussing something.
The competitor gave Xia Jianchun a meaningful smile and strode away.
Xia Jianchun immediately stepped forward to ask Chairman Xu for the reason behind the sudden termination of their cooperation, lowering his stature and doing everything to please him, even promising that he was willing to accept any condition if they continued the cooperation.
“Are you really willing to accept any condition I name?” Chairman Xu tapped his index finger on the desk, smiling playfully.
Xia Jianchun nodded.
In the past, his eldest brother would usually delegate such important matters to his second brother. Now, due to the incident with Zhuo Wei, a rift had formed between the eldest and second brothers. Xia Jianchun wanted to seize this opportunity to perform well and completely replace his second brother’s position in the company.
“I actually do have one thing I want.”
The man waved to Xia Jianchun, signaling him to come closer.
After hearing the request, Xia Jianchun opened his eyes in disbelief, “I have to go back and discuss this matter with my eldest brother and the others.”
Chairman Xu leaned back in his chair, his tone relaxed, “I’ll wait for your reply.”
The night he flew back to Linlu from out of town, Xia Jianchun rushed straight to his eldest brother’s house without even setting foot in his own home.
“So that guy wants Xia Rou?” Xia Jianping appeared very calm, as if he had already expected it.
“I’ve played with countless men and women in my life. I also want to try out the number one socialite of Linlu.”
Xia Jianchun repeated the man’s words.
“Big Brother, what about Second Brother…”
Xia Jianchun felt a little nervous. He knew that if he handled this matter, it would likely fail. After all, because of the incident with Zhizhi last time, their family had practically fallen out with his second brother’s family. They didn’t even send any greetings for Zhizhi’s birthday last week.
“I’ll go talk to Jianye.” Xia Jianping announced.
“It’s been a long time since the two of us brothers sat down and had a drink like this.”
“It has.” Xia Jianye nodded, but his head was consistently slightly lowered, avoiding eye contact with the other man. He appeared reserved and uneasy.
Seeing him like this, Xia Jianping couldn’t help but ask, “Are you still holding a grudge against me for how I handled the Zhuo Wei incident last time?”
“How dare I hold a grudge against Big Brother?”
Xia Jianye picked up his glass and drank the contents, his tone sounding a bit odd.
Xia Jianping smiled helplessly at this, then added, “You watched Zhuo Wei grow up too. The boy has a hasty temper, but his nature isn’t bad. Do you really believe he would do something unethical to Xia Rou?”
“But I believe my daughter more.” Xia Jianye paused after speaking, then turned his face away and said, “That matter is in the past. Continuing to talk about it will only cause further unpleasantness.”
“Are you aware of the crisis the Group is facing recently?” Xia Jianping asked.
“I know.” Hearing about the serious business, Xia Jianye’s sarcastic attitude softened a little. “We must quickly establish some new long-term partners, the more the better. We can’t put all our hope on one party or person, otherwise, similar situations where we’re led by the nose will happen again in the future.”
“That’s easy to say, but long-term partners don’t just appear by speaking the words. You know that established family-owned mining businesses are declining. If we continue to be conservative, even the biggest tree will eventually have its roots wither.”
“I will try to find a solution…”
“There’s already a solution.” Xia Jianping looked at him and simply laid out the purpose of his visit.
Xia Jianye immediately flipped out and stood up, his features slightly distorted with anger, “That son of a bitch is over fifty years old, he’s more than two times older than our Rou Rou! How dare he even think of it!”
“Jianye, sometimes it’s reasonable for an individual to sacrifice for the collective good. Don’t be so impulsive. When the time comes, I will make sure he marries Xia Rou directly and absolutely won’t let her suffer any slight.”
“Big Brother, please leave. This matter is non-negotiable.” Xia Jianye directly sent him away.
From that day on, when Xia Jianye returned to the Group, he found himself increasingly marginalized. The Xia Mining Group also suffered heavy losses due to Chairman Xu’s sudden termination of cooperation, dropping from being an industry leader.
Under the direction of his eldest brother, Xia Jianping, the third brother, Xia Jianchun, led the other shareholders of the Group to slowly strip Xia Jianye of his power. After realizing this, Xia Jianye simply withdrew from his management position and decided to retire.
He had seen some people and matters clearly and was unwilling and uninterested in staying there any longer.
Xia Rou received a call from home while she and Lin Xi were just coming out of a movie theater, so she asked Lin Xi to accompany her back.
Wu Daiyun clearly explained the whole situation, then asked with a look of distress, “From now on, our family will live off savings. Your father was particularly angry this time. When he left, he even sold his shares at a low price. Will you blame us for not discussing it with you?”
“How could I, Mom?” Xia Rou sniffled. For some reason, she really felt like crying. She turned her head and asked, “Where is Dad?”
“He’s in his room. He’s been shut in there since he came back. Your eldest uncle truly hurt his feelings this time,” Wu Daiyun said.
Xia Rou went to check without a word. The door wasn’t locked, so she knocked twice and pushed the door open.
“Dad.”
The room was dark. The curtains were all drawn and the lights weren’t on. Xia Rou only saw a hunched figure sitting alone on the other side of the bed.
“Rou Rou is back?” The man tried hard to squeeze out a smile.
Xia Rou sat down next to him, opened her arms and gently embraced him, saying warmly, “Thank you for protecting me this time, Dad. Can we be good now?”
Xia Jianye, who was originally sad because his years of brotherhood had ended, was instantly amused. “Whether we’re good or not is up to you, isn’t it?”
Lin Xi, who came home with Xia Rou, stayed overnight.
“You’ve seen my family’s situation now. I’m even poorer now. Will you look down on me?”
Xia Rou, wearing pink little bear pajamas, sat cross-legged on the bed and pouted.
Lin Xi thought for a moment, then opened the bank account on her phone and said, “If you want it, all of this is yours.”
Xia Rou quietly counted the number of zeros in the account and was greatly shocked.
She had never seen so much money at once in her life.
“This is…”
“My dad transferred it to me to save face when I came to see your parents. He told me to spend it however I wanted, but I didn’t use it. I was going to give it back to him, but now it seems I shouldn’t.”
“I don’t want it. That’s money your dad gave you,” Xia Rou quickly waved her hands.
“What’s mine isn’t yours?”
Lin Xi gently pulled her into a hug.
“I will work hard to earn money in the future too, and give you everything you want.”
“Hmm, well, I have something I want right now.”
Xia Rou acted mysterious for a moment, then raised her index finger and touched Lin Xi’s lips.
Receiving the instruction, the alpha’s eyes curved into a shallow smile. The next second, she lowered her head and gave a brief, soft kiss.
“Is that enough?” she asked.
“Not enough, not enough.” The omega shook her head in the embrace, like a playful kitten, fluffy and irresistibly tempting to tease.
Lin Xi simply cupped her chin with one hand and kissed her again, prying open her lips, letting her tongue slide in, repeatedly nipping and turning between her lips and the tip of her tongue.
The air gradually heated up. The bedroom was now filled with various soft and ambiguous sounds.
