After Losing My Memory, I Went After My Archenemy - Chapter 32
Xia Rou went back and cried bitterly, which scared her parents immensely, causing them both to gather outside her bedroom door, at a loss.
“Rou Rou, what on earth happened? Did someone bully you at school again?” Xia Jianye asked while knocking on the door.
Wu Daiyun quickly pulled her husband’s hand and whispered a reminder, “Last week, when she encountered that kind of thing, our daughter came back smiling and told us about it. I think this time it’s mostly a matter of the heart.”
“A matter of the heart?” Xia Jianye was even more eager to knock on the door and ask for clarification.
Wu Daiyun pulled him away without a second word, saying as they went downstairs, “Let’s just leave her alone.”
When Xia Rou returned to school later, she no longer spoke when she saw Lin Xi, but quickly walked past her. She also stopped going to the club to register, stopped staking out every place Lin Xi was likely to appear to create a chance encounter, and stopped auditing classes in her classroom.
When club members asked why Xia Rou wasn’t coming to the club anymore, Lin Xi glossed over the question with vague answers.
In just one week, she seemed to have developed a kind of withdrawal symptom. Even when she found a new part-time job, she couldn’t help but zone out. She began to feel unsuited to her current life.
Yet, this was exactly the life she had led before.
As she hadn’t been able to contact Xia Rou for several days, Li Luoyi had to seek out Shen Miao to inquire about her situation.
“You mean Xia Rou? Her condition hasn’t been very good recently. She looks like she’s just gone through a breakup.”
Shen Miao spoke calmly, as if she had expected this day to come.
Hearing this, Li Luoyi felt she couldn’t remain inactive any longer, or she might genuinely lose her one day.
“I’ve made up my mind to confess to her this weekend. Shen Miao, can you come and help?”
“She just broke up with someone, and you’re going to confess to her? The possibility of rejection is high,” Shen Miao kindly reminded her.
“I can’t wait any longer. I’m not afraid of being rejected,” Li Luoyi’s attitude was firm.
Shen Miao said nothing more. She felt that perhaps Li Luoyi could help change Xia Rou’s mood, and she couldn’t bear to see her so dejected anymore.
Once the plan was made, Li Luoyi acted quickly, immediately booking a restaurant and arranging for several friends from her school to assist on the day.
On the afternoon of the confession day, Lin Xi arrived at the restaurant where she worked part-time after school, as usual. She had just arrived and hadn’t even had time to change into her work uniform when the manager reminded her, “Don’t change yet, go help with the decorations.”
She saw several colleagues busy preparing fresh flowers, balloons, ribbons, and other decorations.
Lin Xi joined them, and soon overheard a colleague say, “I wonder which rich person is going to confess to the person they like tonight.”
“How do you know they’re rich?” another colleague asked.
“Nonsense, someone who can reserve our entire restaurant isn’t rich?”
In the evening, the main group of people arrived. Lin Xi never expected Xia Rou to be among them, and Xia Rou also didn’t know that Lin Xi worked there.
After a brief moment of eye contact, Xia Rou evasively turned her face away.
It was like this again. For several consecutive days, Lin Xi didn’t know why she felt so heartbroken, as if karma had arrived.
“Hey, Lin Xi, get to work.”
A colleague called out to her, who was distracted.
After guessing that tonight was likely Li Luoyi’s confession to Xia Rou, Lin Xi became completely absent-minded and performed her tasks half-heartedly.
“Look over there, they’re about to confess! Hurry, look, look.”
Gossipy colleagues hid in a concealed spot to peek.
Lin Xi resisted the urge but couldn’t help but raise her head to look over.
She saw Li Luoyi present the prepared flowers to Xia Rou and began a heartfelt confession: “Xia Rou, we’ve known each other for about ten years, haven’t we? Actually, I didn’t start liking you only after you differentiated into an Omega; I’ve always had a good feeling for you. I like your arrogance, I like your spoiled-girl temper, and I like your occasional small kindnesses… I want to be with you. Will you be my girlfriend?”
Hearing this, Lin Xi almost held her breath, her heart so nervous it seemed to forget to beat.
It was at this crucial moment that the manager called her away for something.
Xia Rou looked at the person in front of her calmly, answering earnestly and seriously, “I’m sorry, I can’t accept.”
“Why?” Li Luoyi asked, deeply hurt. “Is there something wrong with me?”
“No, you’re very good, and very outstanding. It’s just that I have someone in my heart whom I haven’t let go of yet.”
“It’s okay, I can wait until the day you let her go.”
Xia Rou shook her head, “Don’t waste your time on me.”
Or perhaps, she would never have that day of letting go.
By the time Lin Xi finished the tasks the manager had assigned, it was long past closing time. Her colleagues had all gone home, and she naturally missed the aftermath of the confession.
The Alpha walked out of the restaurant like a zombie, taking the last bus home. Her mind kept replaying that event, the confession whose result she didn’t know, and she stayed awake all night because of it.
The next day, Xia Rou, who had been missing from the club for a long time, came early, but it was to process her withdrawal from the club.
“Why don’t you wait for our club president to arrive? We’ve already notified her, and she’s on her way,” a club member told her.
Xia Rou pursed her lips, “No need to wait for her. I just came to let you know.”
The Omega left after saying that, giving the other person no chance to persuade her to stay or say another word.
As she reached the small path behind the building, she came face-to-face with the hastily arriving Lin Xi.
Xia Rou naturally stopped, but just quietly looked at the other person without speaking.
“Did you accept her confession?” Lin Xi asked, suppressing the bitterness in her heart.
Xia Rou didn’t want to answer, but deliberately acted coldly and countered, “What’s wrong, do you care?”
Lin Xi fell silent again, standing there motionless like a log.
Xia Rou felt anger and resentment, the sadness in her chest was like a thousand-pound stone pressing down, and the next second she simply turned and walked away.
But before she could walk far, Lin Xi, who had chased after her, blocked her way.
“I do care. I care very much.”
The Alpha looked down at her, her usually beautiful eyes slightly reddened, and even her habitually cold and indifferent voice sounded hoarse and bitter at this moment.
The few short words from the other person stirred up a storm in Xia Rou’s heart again, but she still didn’t want to give in so quickly.
“It’s too late!”
Xia Rou lifted her chin, pretending to be haughty.
Lin Xi stared at her, a wounded look flashing in her eyes, and finally confessed her feelings as if surrendering: “I didn’t dare to agree to you, not because I didn’t have you in my heart, but because I cared about you too much and was afraid you would be hurt when you recovered your memory.”
“I’m not afraid, so what are you afraid of?” Xia Rou muttered, lowering her head. The anger in her heart seemed to dissipate instantly upon hearing these words.
“Xia Rou.”
Lin Xi gently called her name.
“Huh?”
The Omega, who was twisting her fingers, looked up.
At that moment, the Alpha slowly lowered her head and kissed her.
The passionate, fleeting, and apology-laden kiss descended, and Xia Rou widened her eyes in astonishment.
