After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 22.1
Ji Mingxue clenched the crumpled resignation report in her hand, signed with Song Shuangtian’s name.
The black-and-white document stated Song Shuangtian’s almost absurd reason for resigning:
“Believing my abilities do not match the position, I request approval to leave.”
It didn’t even follow the most basic resignation report format.
Ji Mingxue threw the crumpled paper onto the ground.
Employees passing by on the entire fifty-second floor didn’t dare breathe too loudly, keeping their heads down as they hurried away.
Lu Xing, standing at the end of the corridor, witnessed the scene and frowned deeply.
She had imagined all kinds of endings between Song Shuangtian and Ji Mingxue perhaps a messy fallout, or perhaps a marriage into wealth
but she never expected it to be a flimsy resignation notice.
Just as Lu Xing was about to step forward to mediate, she saw Ji Mingxue bend down and stuff the crumpled paper into her pocket.
In the office,
Ji Mingxue pressed her fingers against her throbbing temples.
“Tell security to lock all exits. Don’t let Song Shuangtian leave.”
Lu Xing complied, but while waiting for updates, she discovered that Song Shuangtian hadn’t even used her own access pass. Instead, she had borrowed one from a former colleague in another department.
She left without a trace of reluctance.
Cutting all ties.
Ji Mingxue: “…”
Lu Xing suddenly felt the situation was extremely tricky.
Ji Mingxue placed her phone on the desk, the suffocating scent of alpha pheromones filling the office.
She tossed her phone onto the desk, revealing the verification message in Song Shuangtian’s chat box.
[You have been blocked by the other party.]
Lu Xing was speechless: “…”
Well, that’s certainly setting an example for the rest of us.
Even Lu Xing couldn’t help but marvel inwardly at Song Shuangtian’s audacity.
The cold, oppressive pheromones of the alpha surged chaotically through the office. Ji Mingxue felt her temples throbbing relentlessly. Ever since her last hospital visit during her rut, when she had been injected with medication, her health had been unstable.
Not only had Song Shuangtian failed to comfort her, but she had also demanded that Ji Mingxue have her scent glands removedpreferably her teeth pulled out too.
Song Shuangtian, this omega, truly had no heart!
Ji Mingxue couldn’t define what Song Shuangtian meant in her life, but she knew one thing for certain: without Song Shuangtian, her pheromones would spiral out of control.
It was rare for an alpha to appear so disheveled, the whites of her eyes were streaked with alarming red veins.
Her fingers dug into the leather armrest, nails carving crescent-shaped marks into the surface.
Ji Mingxue gritted her teeth: “Song Shuangtian.”
She couldn’t let this omega get away.
Alphas were born privileged throughout her life, others had always submitted to her. When had she ever needed to accommodate anyone else?
But for Song Shuangtian, Ji Mingxue had been willing to tidy her room, do her laundry, cook for her, even favor her at work, paving the fastest path to promotion.
And what was the result?
The result was that Song Shuangtian was nothing but a liar!
The alpha was so furious her head ached. She pressed her index finger against her throbbing temple.
“Give me your phone.”
Lu Xing unlocked her phone and placed it in front of her boss.
“Is there a possibility,”
Lu Xing chose her words carefully, “that Song Shuangtian just, doesn’t like you?”
Ji Mingxue: “…”
Lu Xing: “Has Song Shuangtian ever said she likes you?”
Ji Mingxue: “…”
Realizing she had misspoken, Lu Xing shut her mouth and took half a step back.
Will You Get Fired for Accidentally Speaking the Harsh Truth at Work?
Meanwhile.
Inside the hotel suite.
Song Shuangtian gently caressed her slightly protruding belly so subtle it was easily overlooked.
A life was truly growing inside.
As she soothed her stomach, her phone vibrated beside her. Frowning, she picked it up, only to find it wasn’t a call from Yuan Yin but from an unfamiliar number.
Song Shuangtian answered, “Just leave the delivery at the front desk.”
Silence greeted her on the other end.
Weakly, she pressed the phone to her ear. “Hello? Can you hear me?”
After two seconds of dead air, a voice finally spoke. “Song Shuangtian, it’s me.”
The familiar voice of a woman came through the receiver.
Song Shuangtian sighed. “Director Ji, I’ve already submitted my resignation. You can reject it if you want, I don’t need this month’s salary.”
Ji Mingxue: “Do you really think I’m calling to discuss your salary now??”
Song Shuangtian frowned. Is this about me being a corporate spy?
The mention of corporate espionage did make her feel a twinge of guilt.
But! While being a spy was wrong, was it any better for Ji Mingxue to get her pregnant??
She wasn’t exactly a saint either!
On the other end, Ji Mingxue suppressed her anger, forcing her tone to remain calm though the strain made her voice hoarse.
Leaning back in her chair, shadows draped over half her body, a thin veil of darkness mirroring the lingering gloom in her heart.
“Song Shuangtian, I’ll treat this as you throwing a tantrum. I can let it slide. My mom and mother are waiting for your video call this afternoon they really want to see you.”
After two seconds of silence, Ji Mingxue pressed her lips together. “If I’ve done something wrong in this relationship, you can just say it outright.”
Ji Mingxue’s voice echoed through the empty hotel suite, and Song Shuangtian’s stomach suddenly cramped in pain.
She curled into herself, biting down hard to stifle any sound.
Hearing only silence on the line, Ji Mingxue continued, “Song Shuangtian, if you need money, just name a figure. I can give it all to you, no conditions.”
Is this really about money? Song Shuangtian thought. After riding out the pain, she wiped the cold sweat from her forehead with her arm.
“Director Ji, is it possible that. I just don’t want to be with you anymore?”
Ji Mingxue: “…”
Dizzy with pain, Song Shuangtian muttered, “Is it possible that, I’m actually an alpha?”
Ji Mingxue slowly typed out a question mark in her mind.
Closing her eyes, Song Shuangtian seethed with fury. “I’m an alpha! And you forced me into being an omega!”
With that, she hung up with a sharp click.
And you even got me pregnant, you idiot, she added silently.
The little omega’s cheeks flushed red with anger, the intense emotions triggering another wave of pain in her belly.
“Ugh!”
A soft whimper escaped her lips.
Curled up like a shrimp, she rubbed her stomach. “Be good, little one. I wasn’t calling you an idiot.”
The throbbing pain left her physically and mentally exhausted.
“Your mother is the idiot, not you. Our baby is so smart.”
Miraculously, as if soothed by her words, the pain subsided.
Song Shuangtian: “…”
Song Shuangtian: “I can tell you like sweet talk.”
“Just like your foolish mother.”
Yuan Yin leaned against the doorframe. “Was that your old flame calling?”
Song Shuangtian shot her a glare. “Not an old flame.”
She lounged lazily against the headboard, beside a bowl of century egg and lean pork congee and a braised duck leg that Yuan Yin had just brought up. Having passed the initial stage where everything made her nauseous, Song Shuangtian now had a decent appetite.
Yuan Yin: “I just did a divination for you.”
Song Shuangtian: “Not Tarot this time?”
Yuan Yin replied, “Just tell me if you want to hear it or not.”
Song Shuangtian nodded. “Go ahead.”
Yuan Yin: “I have a bad feeling. There might be some upheaval at ST Group.”
Beside Song Shuangtian lay the latest season’s high-end jewelry drafts from M Group technically not stolen, since this was her area of responsibility. Most of the designs were her own, already approved and, barring any issues, set to be produced, cast, and polished by the manufacturing department.
Yuan Yin yawned. “You’re really planning to hand these over to your useless father and brother?”
Song Shuangtian pressed her lips together.
Yuan Yin reached out to stroke Song Shuangtian’s belly, only for her hand to be swatted away.
“Keep your hands to yourself. You’re an alpha, and alphas are all scum.”
“…”
“You adapt fast.”
“Your belly-rubbing technique feels like you’re petting a dog.”
Yuan Yin chuckled sheepishly. “Sorry, force of habit. But you’re pregnant now you need to think about the baby. If you keep slaving away for ST Group, who knows if you’ll even inherit it? That illegitimate half-brother of yours isn’t easy to deal with, especially since your father’s favoritism is completely skewed toward that idiot.”
“You’re an omega now, not an alpha.”
Song Shuangtian’s lashes fluttered as she noticed a transfer notification on her phone.
“Ji Mingxue sent me money.”
Yuan Yin: “How much? Breakup fee or prenatal support? If it’s less than 20 million, I’ll lose all respect for her.”
Song Shuangtian murmured, “Thirty-three thousand.”
“This month’s base salary, including perfect attendance, no bonuses.”
Yuan Yin: “…”
She’s so stingy it’s painful.
Yuan Yin proceeded to order a full set of luxury baby products online, even insisting on a monogram-patterned stroller.
“Are you really not going to tell Ji Mingxue about the pregnancy? Just a heads-up omega pregnancies are brutal without an alpha’s pheromone support, especially during delivery.”
Song Shuangtian: “She’s not cut out for parenting. Or relationships, for that matter.”
“She might be a great boss, a great superior, a great sugar mommy but she’d be a terrible mother.”
Song Shuangtian wasn’t planning to hide the pregnancy from Ji Mingxue forever. The child would meet her eventually just not now.
She opened her phone and booked the earliest available flight to a small town in the southwest.
“Navigate to Song Shuangtian’s place.”
Ji Mingxue sat in the back of the luxury car while Lu Xing took the wheel.
Lu Xing: “Hold on, let me check the employee records.”
Ji Mingxue: “Just pull up the navigation. I’ve been to her home before.”
Lu Xing successfully located Song Shuangtian’s address in the system but felt uneasy.
“President Ji, showing up unannounced like this might make the omega think you’re threatening her.”
Ji Mingxue: “I’m not trying to threaten her.”
Ji Mingxue exuded an aura of restraint and danger, a cigarette poised between her fingers, ready to be lit.
Perhaps out of consideration for the lingering trace of neroli pheromones in the car, she didn’t want the acrid smell of smoke to completely overwhelm the omega’s only remaining scent.
This was an old residential complex, and Ji Mingxue’s luxury car couldn’t navigate the narrow alleyways, forcing her to park in a relatively open spot.
The moment Lu Xing stepped out of the car, her high heels sank into a puddle of murky water.
She frowned slightly and wordlessly shifted to a cleaner patch of ground.
Ji Mingxue had last visited at night and hadn’t realized just how dilapidated the area truly was.
As Lu Xing closed the car door, Ji Mingxue said, “Unit 3, Room 502.”
During the day, there were hardly any young people around just a scattering of elderly residents sitting at the mouth of the alley, basking in the sun.
The temperature wasn’t particularly low, but the old folks, sensitive to the cold, were bundled in brightly colored padded jackets.
They chattered in a dialect neither woman could understand.
By all appearances, this seemed like a community for the elderly, not the kind of place a young woman like Song Shuangtian would live.
Lu Xing remarked, “Given Song Shuangtian’s salary, her daily life should be quite comfortable.”
Hard work paid off, and with bonuses, she likely earned at least 50,000 a month more than some small-company executives.
Neither Lu Xing nor Ji Mingxue knew, at least not yet, that this place had been arranged for Song Shuangtian by Yuan Yin, a deliberate choice to match the pitiful image of a lonely, debt-ridden young woman with no family to rely on.
High heels clicked against the concrete steps of the old, elevator-less apartment building, each step echoing hollowly through the stairwell.
“Careful.”
Lu Xing reached out to steady Ji Mingxue as an unleashed toy poodle barreled past them like a tiny cannonball.
The dog knocked over a trash can outside one of the doors, spilling its sour, soupy contents across the floor.
This was where Song Shuangtian lived.
A flicker of something something even Ji Mingxue herself barely registered passed through her eyes.
If she were smarter, she’d just work diligently by my side. I’d never treat her poorly.
Ji Mingxue lifted her chin imperiously, as if her mere presence could inflate the property values of the entire complex several times over.
By the time they reached the fifth floor, it was clear that Song Shuangtian’s doorway wasn’t cluttered with trash but it was far from pristine.
A dust-coated security door stood before a flimsy wooden one with no additional locks.
Ji Mingxue raised a hand and knocked.
“Song Shuangtian, it’s me.”
The sound reverberated through the cramped hallway, but no response came from inside.
The emotion in Ji Mingxue’s eyes darkened. “Song Shuangtian, I know you’re in there.”
She knocked several more times, until a fine layer of dust settled on her black leather gloves, yet still, no one answered.
Lu Xing made inquiries around the neighborhood. “The neighbors say they rarely see anyone coming or going from this unit.”
What she meant was, Could we have the wrong place?
Ji Mingxue’s last visit had been late at night maybe she’d misremembered the building.
But the alpha refused to believe she was mistaken. After several attempts with no response, Lu Xing made a call outside the door.
No sound of a vibrating phone came from within.
Either Song Shuangtian’s phone was on silent, or no one was home at all.
“Who are you two?”
An elderly old woman stood at the bottom of the stairs, leaning on a cane.
With each step she took, the jingling keys at her waist clattered noisily.
Ji Mingxue said, “I have some business with the person living here.”
“She’s my girlfriend.”
The old woman hobbled up with her cane, pulled out a set of keys, and unlocked the door. “I’m the landlord. She moved out yesterday.”
At those words, even the usually unflappable Lu Xing gasped sharply.
A shadow flickered across Ji Mingxue’s expression. “Moved out?”
The old woman, sensing that these two were no ordinary visitors, seemed anxious to avoid trouble.
After pushing the door open, she deftly felt around for the light switch.
“That girl didn’t tell you she was leaving?”
Ji Mingxue: “…”
Lu Xing couldn’t help but look away, her expression pained.
