After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 21
The employees in the CEO’s office were sweating bullets as they waited in vain for Song Shuangtian to arrive.
“President Ji, Ms. Song hasn’t reported in,” the manager said, knocking on Ji Mingxue’s office door.
The alpha’s fingers, flipping through reports, paused slightly. Her eyes darkened.
“She didn’t come.”
Even those unfamiliar with Ji Mingxue could tell her mood was exceptionally foul.
The office was deathly silent. Ji Mingxue lifted her eyelids. “Call her.”
The manager trudged back with a grimace.
Everyone knew Song Shuangtian had skyrocketed across departments, catching the boss’s favor in one fell swoop.
Many employees couldn’t resist subtly passing by, eager to catch a glimpse of that coveted seat closest to the boss.
Company group chats were buzzing with speculation.
The alpha, as poised as ever, leaned back in her black leather chair, her long hair cascading over her shoulders. Twirling a pen between her fingers, she watched as a video call window popped up on her computer screen.
Her mother and mama suddenly appeared on the other end. Ji Mingxue immediately straightened her posture.
“Mama, Mother.”
The two on the screen were in a different time zone dawn hadn’t yet broken there. Both had mixed heritage, one with pure black eyes, the other with jade-green irises.
“Ah-Xue, it’s work hours for you now,” said the younger-looking omega mama, clinging to her wife’s arm while trying to squeeze into the frame.
Sabrina indulged her beloved, shifting aside until only half her face remained visible.
“Where’s your little girlfriend?”
“Let us see her. That child is young, with no one at home to care for her. Don’t you dare bully her.”
Ji Mingxue’s expression faltered for a moment, a hint of unease flickering across her face.
Last night, she had told her parents she would transfer Song Shuangtian to her side to teach her, mentor her in company management, and help her steadily establish herself within M Group.
Yet now, long after work hours had begun, Song Shuangtian was nowhere to be seen.
Ji Mingxue’s face warmed. Beneath the desk, her hand crumpled a stack of documents into a wrinkled mess.
Her lashes lowered slightly. “Song Shuangtian isn’t feeling well. She hasn’t come in yet.”
Mama’s face clouded with worry. “Did you bully her again? You’ve always been so strong-willed, even as a child, always provoking others. Look at you now still the same. What are we going to do with you? That poor girl must have been scared off by you.”
Ji Mingxue sighed. “Mama.”
A surge of irritation rose in her chest, unfairly directed at Song Shuangtian for not showing up on time, leaving her in this awkward predicament.
Her mama and mother had timed this call precisely because they wanted to meet her girlfriend.
“What’s your little girlfriend’s full name?” Sabrina asked, her wife beside her equally curious.
Ji Mingxue replied, “Song Shuangtian. Mother, you recognize that name?”
Sabrina’s brows furrowed. “Song Shuangtian? You’re sure that’s her name?”
Ji Mingxue nodded. “I’ve seen her employment records. Is there a problem?”
Her wife blinked her almond-shaped eyes, turning to Sabrina, whose black hair shimmered with a golden halo under the morning sunlight.
A thoughtful glimmer flashed in Sabrina’s eyes as she recalled the rosy-cheeked girl from the video she’d seen last time. The distance had been too great to make out her features clearly then, but now it dawned on her that must have been the same little girl, who should be about this age now.
The silence in the video only fueled Ji Mingxue’s already anxious emotions.
Every second felt like an eternity.
“That child is fine, but Ah-Xue, are you really prepared to date her?”
Ji Mingxue paused. “What do you mean by that?”
Sabrina shook her head. “Don’t use the same tricks you’d use on other girls to charm Song Shuangtian. I told you last time, don’t underestimate her. That girl isn’t as simple as you think.”
Meanwhile.
Song Shuangtian slowly climbed out of bed, her hand resting on the slight swell of her abdomen.
Normally, such a subtle curve wouldn’t have caught her attention, she’d have dismissed it as bloating or overeating.
But now, when she touched it, she could feel the tiny life inside, connected to her by blood.
After brushing her teeth and washing her face, she applied the ointment prescribed by the doctor to her belly and stuck a scent-blocking gland patch on the back of her neck.
The girl in the mirror wore a grumpy cat-like expression.
She rummaged through her closet and pulled out a loose, fluffy cat-themed coat, slipping it on before stepping into a pair of fuzzy slippers with her swollen feet.
She looked less like a CEO’s secretary and more like someone heading off on vacation.
Before leaving, Song Shuangtian didn’t grab her bag instead, she took out a pre-printed resignation letter from the drawer.
Enough. She was quitting.
She couldn’t stand this damn job for another day.
Downstairs, Yuan Yin opened the car door for her as she descended. “What kind of job requires the madam to attend in person?”
Song Shuangtian felt the sarcasm in her tone and promptly gave her a beating.
“You really aren’t planning to tell Ji Mingxue about the baby?”
Song Shuangtian sipped her red date soy milk, watching the scenery blur past the car window.
“Nope.”
“You expect her to take care of a child? Don’t be ridiculous.”
“She can’t even manage her own pheromones properly.”
Yuan Yin burst out laughing at that.
“If that alpha heard you say that, she’d be furious. I can’t wait to see her face when she finds out the truth.”
Song Shuangtian thought to herself, You’re such a sadist. I’m just a poor, innocent pregnant woman.
Yuan Yin drove her to the M Group building.
Before leaving, Song Shuangtian tapped on her car window.
“I’ve sent you M Group’s strategic plans for this year and next. The details on ad endorsements and store openings are only accurate up to early next year. As for anything more specific, the higher-ups haven’t finalized it yet, so I couldn’t dig deeper.”
Song Shuangtian admitted this sneaky method wasn’t exactly honorable but it worked, didn’t it?
ST Group’s recent product launches and store locations had been shadowing M Group’s every move.
M Group’s attempts to pivot into the affordable luxury market were effectively dead in the water.
Taking their path and leaving them with none that was enough to throw M Group’s rhythm into chaos.
Ji Mingxue had spent the past few weeks hunting for moles within the company.
As Song Shuangtian swiped her card to enter the elevator, the looks she got from everyone were odd.
“Why are you dressed like that?”
She ran into Cui Yu in the elevator, who was on her way to another department. The latter gaped at her pajama-like attire.
Song Shuangtian smirked. “Oh, I’m here to resign.”
“You WHAT?!”
Cui Yu couldn’t believe her ears, “Say that again? I must have misheard just now, right.”
“The executive office has already cleared out your desk, and the big boss is waiting for you. I heard the two overseas chairmen even asked about you this morning. How could you??”
Song Shuangtian smiled perfectly, “Yes, I’m resigning.”
“The design department is already swamped with work. I don’t have time to spare to be her secretary.”
“Do you even realize that being the CEO’s secretary is the necessary stepping stone to management? You!”
As the elevator doors reopened, Song Shuangtian waved her resignation letter in the air,
“I know, but I don’t need it.”
She had indeed done something wrong to M Group, but what about Ji Mingxue?
Hadn’t she taken advantage of her? Even marked an alpha as an omega! A temporary mark and she got her pregnant!!
Cui Yu stood there dumbfounded.
“Does she even know what she’s saying.”
After leaving the HR department, Song Shuangtian left all the company-related group chats on her phone.
One last thing to do.
She needed to retrieve her computer from the office on the same floor as Ji Mingxue.
Song Shuangtian placed a hand on her abdomen, where a child connected to her by blood grew.
A beloved one she had yet to meet.
The elevator doors opened, and Song Shuangtian came face-to-face with a tall figure half a head taller than her.
Ji Mingxue stared in astonishment at Song Shuangtian’s disheveled appearance,
“Song Shuangtian, what’s wrong with you today?”
Song Shuangtian looked up, “Good morning, CEO Ji.”
“You promised me you’d report to the executive office today. It’s already noon.”
Song Shuangtian’s peach-blossom eyes stared straight at Ji Mingxue, stirring a subtle emotion in the latter’s heart.
She couldn’t bring herself to be angry at this person.
But she was still furious inside.
“Song Shuangtian, as a competent employee, you shouldn’t bring personal emotions into work.”
“An employee? I thought I was CEO Ji’s lover.”
“Song Shuangtian, enough! Don’t push your luck. Go change your clothes, and I’ll have a senior colleague train you.”
At the elevator entrance, Song Shuangtian was nearly eclipsed by Ji Mingxue’s imposing figure, making it look like an alpha bullying her.
Song Shuangtian touched her belly, wishing she could cover the unborn child’s ears.
Listen to the nonsense your mother is spouting?
How can she say such things in front of the child?
Family disputes should be kept away from children
Ji Mingxue frowned, “My mother and mom want to see you this afternoon. Come to my office for a video call.”
Ji Mingxue tightly gripped Song Shuangtian’s wrist, intent on dragging her to her private lounge to change.
What’s wrong with this omega employee? Her mood changes in the blink of an eye.
Song Shuangtian didn’t budge.
“The workload you assigned me is too heavy. I’m exhausted.”
Ji Mingxue turned back, surprised by Song Shuangtian’s words.
Song Shuangtian remained in the position of being held by Ji Mingxue, “Not only do I have to handle product design, but I also have to serve as your secretary fetching tea, preparing meeting materials, even taking on business trips to the western mining region. Now you want me to step into management, drowning in endless tasks.”
“CEO Ji, is it possible that not every employee can handle such an overwhelming workload?”
Especially when she’s pregnant.
Ji Mingxue frowned. She had promised to give her little lover some benefits, and since the other party didn’t want money, they must be seeking a stable position within the company.
Ji Mingxue began to explain, “I—”
I’ll pave the way for you, arrange the path that will help you accumulate the most experience and connections in the shortest time.
Ungrateful little brat.
Song Shuangtian waved the resignation notice in her hand.
“Come sign this.”
As she rubbed her belly, she thought: Little one, your mother is so obsessed with work she hasn’t even noticed why I’m wearing fuzzy slippers.
Little one, from now on, it’ll just be the two of us.
Ji Mingxue was stunned, the composed expression on her face crumbling.
“What did you say?”
Song Shuangtian shoved the resignation notice into her arms and quickly headed to the office to retrieve her laptop.
“I won’t sign.”
With a look that said Are you out of your mind?, Song Shuangtian replied, “This is a notice, not a request. At most, I’ll forfeit this month’s salary.”
See ya later, alligator.
“Song Shuangtian!”
As the elevator doors closed, Song Shuangtian clearly heard Ji Mingxue say, “You haven’t paid off your loans yet, have you? Do you really think you can find another job in this industry with comparable pay? You’re my girlfriend, my family likes you. When you’ve had enough of this tantrum, come back up.”
Song Shuangtian: “…”
This was the first time she had ever heard Ji Mingxue shout her name so undignifiedly.
Even resorting to threats in desperation.
Her heart wavered for a moment, but then she thought, Am I crazy? Your parents probably know who I am.
If my secret gets exposed, it’ll be even more humiliating.
Inside the closed elevator, Song Shuangtian looked down at her swollen feet. The lack of appetite from her pregnancy had left her stomach unusually fragile, and she had lost weight.
Ji Mingxue hadn’t noticed.
Song Shuangtian sighed. She thought that if Ji Mingxue had found out and taken her for a checkup, maybe there would still be room for reconciliation.
What a scumbag Alpha.
Knocks someone up and still makes them work.
Never see her again in this lifetime and never let her see our child either.
When the elevator reached the first floor, Song Shuangtian blocked Ji Mingxue’s number on her phone.
And blacklisted all means of contact.
