After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 20
“Still no contact with Song Shuangtian?”
Ji Mingxue, lying on the hospital bed, massaged her throbbing temples as she asked her assistant beside her.
“Apologies, Miss Song’s phone has been turned off this whole time.”
The expected answer only worsened Ji Mingxue’s already agitated mood.
The sterile-smelling hospital room was eerily silent. Ji Mingxue, looking slightly pale, leaned back against her pillow and covered her eyes with her hand.
Three days ago, she had been hospitalized due to issues with her pheromones.
The doctor had administered a synthetic omega pheromone injection as a substitute.
Ji Mingxue’s body had adverse reactions to this injection, leaving her nerves constantly on edge. Only Song Shuangtian’s pheromones could alleviate it.
Rut periods weren’t usually a major issue for most alphas some even welcomed them but that was certainly not the case for Ji Mingxue.
She couldn’t help but feel a surge of frustration.
“Go find Song Shuangtian and bring her to me.”
Those around her didn’t dare breathe too loudly. Someone by the door whispered, “Understood.”
Lu Xing stood at the doorway, adjusting the gold-rimmed glasses on her nose.
“How is President Ji doing?”
The assistant gently closed the door behind her and shook her head helplessly. “Without Miss Song’s pheromones, she might need another injection.”
Lu Xing and the assistant stood in the hospital corridor. Lu Xing reached into her pocket for a cigarette but hesitated when she noticed the “No Smoking” sign in the corner, leaving it untouched.
“Are you sure Miss Song just went back to her hometown for personal matters and isn’t actually avoiding President Ji?”
The assistant shook her head truthfully, she wasn’t sure either.
Lu Xing hadn’t attended the yacht party but knew Ji Mingxue had assigned Song Shuangtian an overwhelming workload. To prove herself and avoid being underestimated, Song had no choice but to deliver results.
Design department duties, a business trip to the western region to represent headquarters, and then being reassigned as the CEO’s secretary, it was a lot.
Lu Xing joked, “Maybe Miss Song couldn’t handle the workload and decided to quit.”
The assistant covered her mouth in shock, staring at the vice president in disbelief.
Lu Xing waved her hand dismissively. “Just kidding. The company’s benefits are excellent, and Song Shuangtian has President Ji’s special favor. She wouldn’t throw that away.”
Besides, from what Lu Xing knew, Song Shuangtian was just a poor, rootless orphan drifting in the big city.
What other options did she have besides seizing every opportunity to climb up?
The thought was harsh but realistic. If given the chance, even Lu Xing wished Song Shuangtian could have been born into a better family.
At the airport.
Song Shuangtian turned her phone back on. Sitting in the VIP lounge, she pressed a hand to her aching forehead.
Ji Mingxue had left over a dozen missed calls, along with several from unknown numbers undoubtedly people connected to Ji Mingxue.
The omega leaned exhaustively into the corner of the lounge, sipping warm water before closing her eyes in fatigue.
She had a few choice words she wasn’t sure she should say out loud.
Pregnant at a Young Age
Song Shuangtian’s chest burned with anger, but as an omega, she couldn’t help forming an attachment to the life inside her. All she could do was glare resentfully at her still-flat stomach.
The moment her phone powered on, it rang again within seconds another clamoring interruption.
Song Shuangtian answered the phone, her expression unreadable in the dim light. One hand instinctively rested on her abdomen whether to protect the child from the interference of another irresponsible woman, no one could say.
“Song Shuangtian, where are you?”
Song Shuangtian paused. “I’ll be back in the capital this afternoon.”
“Why didn’t you answer my calls?”
The accusatory tone in Ji Mingxue’s voice grated on her nerves. A cold laugh escaped her lips.
“Director Ji, if I recall correctly, this is my vacation time. Company policy doesn’t stipulate that employees must answer their superiors’ calls while on leave.”
Her sharp retort drew surprised glances from passing travelers.
Their eyes lingered briefly on the luxury handbag she carried, one that couldn’t be bought at any price before they quickly averted their gazes.
Right. She clearly had the means to talk back.
The line fell silent for a moment. Ji Mingxue, gritting her teeth against the pain, spoke slowly, “Song Shuangtian, I’m in the hospital right now. I need your pheromones.”
Song Shuangtian almost laughed, one hand clutching the pregnancy confirmation report while the other shielded her belly, as if covering the baby’s ears to spare them from their other parent’s absurd words.
Hah?
Pheromones.
Her lips curled in a mocking smile. “Director Ji, my pheromones aren’t anything special. You can find someone else.”
Ji Mingxue: “…”
The pain was nearly unbearable. “Song Shuangtian, stop messing around.”
The boarding announcement sounded overhead, and a flight attendant nearby gestured for her to wrap up.
The young miss wasn’t about to tolerate this nonsense. She snapped, “If pheromones are really such a life-or-death issue, I suggest you get your glands removed.”
“Or better yet, just yank out those fangs you use to bite people. That’d be more convenient.”
With that, she hung up with a sharp click, slipped on her fluffy slippers, and followed the flight attendant toward the gate.
On the other end of the line, Ji Mingxue: “?”
Unfortunately, Lu Xing happened to be in the hospital room at that moment, delivering a work report.
Though Ji Mingxue hadn’t put the call on speaker, Song Shuangtian’s voice had been loud enough for everyone to hear.
Gland removal surgery? And pulling out an alpha’s fangs?
What kind of demonic suggestion was that??
The others exchanged uneasy glances, not daring to make a sound. Ji Mingxue’s face cycled through shades of green and white.
Before leaving, Lu Xing couldn’t hold back. “Did you have a falling out with Miss Song?”
Ji Mingxue wasn’t incapable of self-reflection. She lowered her gaze to the Hetian jade bracelet on her wrist, her mind drifting to Song Shuangtian’s lively eyes.
She’d even introduced Song Shuangtian to her mother.
Was that not enough to show she valued her?
If there was any “bullying” involved, it could only be.
“We marked each other on a stormy island. I admit I might’ve been a little rough, but she bit my neck too. The scar still hasn’t faded.”
Lu Xing sucked in a sharp breath.
“An omega’s body is fragile. How could you,” do something so beastly in those conditions?
Her usually stoic expression cracked slightly.
A temporary mark was still a mark. For most omegas, even letting a partner glance at their scent gland was intimate enough. Yet the boss had actually dared to in the rain, no less.
What she didn’t dare say was that although Song Shuangtian had no parents, given her status as an omega, marrying into a good family wouldn’t be difficult at all.
Or with her looks, she could easily become an online streamer or sign with a smaller entertainment agency wouldn’t she earn more than she does now?
Omegas held the scepter of reproduction and fertility. As long as they didn’t do anything too outrageous, they’d be cradled in the palms of others’ hands. Unlike her boss.
Who truly treated people as disposable playthings.
Lu Xing left the hospital room, brushing past medical staff.
“An injection?”
The medical staff checked the form in their hands. “Yes, is the patient available now?”
Lu Xing glanced through the door crack at her boss, who was repeatedly calling Song Shuangtian from the hospital bed. “She’s free.”
That afternoon,
Song Shuangtian folded the test results into a small square and stuffed it into her pocket. She tossed her expensive bag into the car and strode toward the entrance of the private hospital in her high heels.
Yuan Yin, who had driven her here, was still in disbelief.
“Let me ask you one more time, are you actually pregnant?”
Song Shuangtian glared at her darkly. “I really wish I was lying to you right now.”
Yuan Yin twitched her lips. “I heard Ji Mingxue is transferring you to the CEO’s office. The pay’s high there, but you’d basically be working over ten hours a day, revolving entirely around Ji Mingxue. Who knows, you might even have to drink at banquets.”
Song Shuangtian: “She can eat shit.”
Hands in her pockets, Song Shuangtian arrived at Ji Mingxue’s floor.
When she pushed the door open, several hours had passed since the injection. The pain in Ji Mingxue’s body hadn’t lessened with time, the poorly compatible serum had triggered an allergic reaction.
Compared to the lack of omega pheromones to soothe her, it was a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils.
Song Shuangtian saw Ji Mingxue’s pale face, the cold sweat beading on her forehead, her teeth clenched. Yet she still maintained the controlled, dignified facade of a corporate leader, adding an indescribable tension to her disheveled state.
Song Shuangtian’s gaze paused.
Ji Mingxue was hypersensitive to her pheromones, and yet their compatibility was a perfect 100%. Now, she was carrying Ji Mingxue’s child.
Neither of them had any right to judge the other.
Ji Mingxue looked up, meeting Song Shuangtian’s shadowed, complicated stare.
“Finally decided to come back?”
Song Shuangtian: “I just got off the plane.”
Ji Mingxue was in too much pain to argue. Her sweat-dampened hair clung to her skin as she gasped for breath, her thin hospital gown hanging off her frame. Despite her pitiable appearance, the aggression in her demeanor hadn’t diminished in the slightest.
She was furious.
“Your vacation ends tomorrow. Report to the CEO’s office, I’ll be personally overseeing your work from now on.”
“And don’t bring personal emotions into the workplace.”
Song Shuangtian: “…”
