After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 19
Song Shuangtian stood with her head lowered awkwardly. To Ji Mingxue, the scene clearly resembled a new bride meeting her in-laws flustered and embarrassed.
A faint smile tugged at Ji Mingxue’s lips as she shifted the camera away.
“Mother, don’t scare her.”
The elegant noblewoman on the video call withdrew her gaze and reminded Ji Mingxue of a few more things.
Before long, the call ended.
Song Shuangtian was completely numb. She didn’t know whether the chairwoman had recognized her, but she was certain that if she stayed any longer, her disguise would inevitably be exposed.
Song Shuangtian believed she took more after her mother, especially with those gentle peach-blossom eyes they were practically identical.
Ji Mingxue placed her phone face-down on the table. “Sorry, my mother called unexpectedly. I didn’t have time to warn you.”
Song Shuangtian hastily wiped the water droplets from her body and was about to grab a towel to dry her hair when Ji Mingxue took it from her.
That scent of alpha pheromones again.
The moment the invasive, aggressive fragrance of white magnolia, an alpha’s pheromones reached her, Song Shuangtian’s entire body trembled uncontrollably.
Not from pain, but from overwhelming desire.
“Song Shuangtian, are you feeling unwell?”
Song Shuangtian shook her head, forcing a strained smile.
As her phone chimed with a notification, Ji Mingxue checked the message one-handed while picking up the hairdryer with the other.
Mother: Seeing your little girlfriend reminded me of an old friend.
Ji Mingxue arched a brow, her fingers combing through the omega’s soft, long hair as she typed blindly with her free hand. You couldn’t have met her before.
Mother: I haven’t, no. Have you looked into her background?
On the sofa, the petite office worker sat cross-legged, clutching the fluffy towel nervously, her lashes fluttering slightly as if still shaken from the sudden encounter with Ji Mingxue’s mother.
What a timid girl, Ji Mingxue mused to herself.
I’ve checked. She lost both parents and took out loans to finish university. If she’d been born into a better family, she could’ve gone much further.
When no further messages came, Ji Mingxue paid it no mind. But that night, another notification appeared in her inbox.
Mother: Since you’ve already looked into her, as your mother, I naturally support your decision. But for her to have come this far she must be anything but ordinary. Don’t underestimate her.
In the quiet of the night, Ji Mingxue frowned at the message. At the time, she had no idea what was coming.
She quickly replied, I know.
The island vacation lasted a week. Song Shuangtian didn’t participate in any outdoor activities, spending most of her time holed up in the cabin with Ji Mingxue. It wasn’t that she disliked fun, it was just that the salty sea breeze made her nauseous and dizzy.
Only when the trip ended did Song Shuangtian finally escape the intense physical discomfort.
The moment she stepped off the private yacht, fresh air filled her lungs, bringing an almost euphoric relief.
She couldn’t delay any longer.
“President Ji, I’d like to request leave.”
Song Shuangtian tugged lightly at Ji Mingxue’s sleeve in a secluded spot, her voice soft and pleading.
Clutching her phone with the latest message, her expression was one of request but her tone left no room for negotiation.
Ji Mingxue’s brow arched slightly.
Alpha was half a head taller than omega, enough to block the sunlight behind them and completely envelop the other person in their shadow.
Yuan Yin glanced over from not far away, while He Yanyan, holding a small white dog, remarked, “You’ve taken a liking to that CEO Ji’s little girlfriend?”
Yuan Yin: “…”
Yuan Yin coughed violently. “What are you talking about?”
He Yanyan shrugged. “With your status, there’s no one you can’t have. I believe you heard what I just said.”
Yuan Yin: “…”
Yuan Yin used one hand to forcibly turn He Yanyan’s head away from where it had been sneakily peeking at Ji Mingxue.
“I have no interest in that little beauty.”
It was laughable as an alpha, she didn’t fancy her own kind.
Of course, she also didn’t dare entertain any thoughts about Song Shuangtian.
“Enough, no more looking.”
Yuan Yin pulled He Yanyan into the car, completely cutting off her lingering gaze.
He Yanyan stroked the fluffy ears of her Maltese. “Is there something special about that Miss Song?”
She couldn’t believe that a mere designer could capture the attention of two powerhouses like Yuan Yin and Ji Mingxue.
Before Yuan Yin lay a fan of tarot cards. She casually drew one and placed it in front of her.
“Isn’t her surname ‘Song’ special enough?”
He Yanyan’s pupils constricted. “I thought it was a coincidence. Does CEO Ji know?”
“How many coincidences can there be?” Yuan Yin hesitated, a rare moment of uncertainty. “She probably doesn’t know.”
Yuan Yin stared at the card in front of her, lost in thought.
“Wait, why this card?”
After a long silence, Yuan Yin sent Song Shuangtian a message:
“I’ve divined that you and Ji Mingxue will have a child together. How did you manage to get Ji Mingxue pregnant???”
After asking Ji Mingxue for leave, Song Shuangtian didn’t return home. Instead, she boarded the earliest flight to a small town in the southwest.
The climate here was spring-like year-round, an ideal place for recuperation.
A private car awaited her upon landing, and Song Shuangtian soon arrived at the gates of a private estate.
To be precise, it was a private sanatorium, its guests exclusively the wealthy or influential.
“Miss Song, you’ve arrived,” greeted an elderly butler in a bow tie, bending at a perfect ninety-degree angle to open the door. “Madam Qiu is waiting for you in the garden.”
Beads of nervous sweat formed on Song Shuangtian’s forehead. “How is Auntie’s health?”
The butler’s smile remained unchanged. “She had a heart attack last night but has since been stabilized. She’s fine now.”
Song Shuangtian’s expression didn’t relax in the slightest. If anything, the glaring ultraviolet rays made her feel dizzy.
Madam Qiu was Song Shuangtian’s aunt, the one who had taken care of her since her mother’s passing.
Of course, her mother had spent much of her youth abroad, so Song Shuangtian had often played with her aunt during her childhood.
In many ways, Madam Qiu was like a second mother to her.
Hurrying into the garden, she spotted a small pavilion set up beside a sea of roses.
A graceful noblewoman reclined on a soft chair, sipping a local floral tea.
Though no longer young, her well-maintained face bore only a few wrinkles, hinting at her true age.
From behind, she could easily be mistaken for a young girl.
“Auntie!”
Song Shuangtian rushed over. Madam Qiu set down her teacup and turned with a gentle smile. “Still as impulsive as when you were little, aren’t you?”
In her aunt’s presence, Song Shuangtian instinctively softened her voice.
“I was worried about you.”
Aunt Qiu sighed helplessly and patted her hand, spreading honey butter on a sweet little toasted bun before handing it to Song Shuangtian.
“Here, eat something.”
Song Shuangtian sat across from her aunt with a bitter expression, looking every bit like a wounded child.
“Your hormonal disorder still isn’t better?” In front of her aunt, Song Shuangtian was uncharacteristically docile, breaking off small pieces of the bun with her fingers and nibbling on them. “No heat cycles, no ruts that bastard illegitimate child of my dad’s keeps saying I’m a beta, but I’m clearly not.”
Only around her aunt did Song Shuangtian show such childlike vulnerability.
“This is troublesome. You should go for a full check-up.”
Her aunt’s brows furrowed with worry. “As the heir to ST Group, nothing is more important than your health.”
Song Shuangtian was already an adult she shouldn’t be making her elders worry like this.
Reluctantly, she set the half-eaten bun back on the plate.
“Your floral tea is empty, let me refill it for you.”
After topping up her aunt’s cup, Song Shuangtian was reluctantly led away by the butler for her medical examination.
She glanced back every few steps. “Your health.”
Her aunt waved her off. “I’m fine.”
Only then did Song Shuangtian relax slightly.
The check-up was nothing out of the ordinary she underwent similar examinations every six months and the doctors still hadn’t found any concrete answers regarding her hormonal imbalance.
“Still a 0.1% compatibility rate?”
Song Shuangtian had long stopped expecting anything different.
Her blood samples were sent to the national database for compatibility matching. Typically, the hormonal content in one’s blood could predict the likelihood of finding a mate. For most omegas or alphas, the compatibility rate was above 85%.
For betas, it was around 75%.
Song Shuangtian’s was 0.1%.
This indirectly confirmed that she didn’t fit into any of the three primary designations at least, not according to previous test results.
Doctor: “You are currently an omega.”
Song Shuangtian: “Oh, still 0.1%. Got it. I’ll keep taking my meds.”
“Wait, what?!”
Song Shuangtian suddenly straightened in her seat, staring straight at the doctor. “Please, this isn’t the time for jokes.”
The doctor’s eyes above the mask were equally bewildered. “You are now an omega, and…”
He pointed at the medical report with a gloved hand. “And you’re already pregnant nearly three months along. Haven’t you noticed anything unusual in your daily life?”
“Your compatibility rate isn’t 0.1% anymore. It’s 100%.”
Song Shuangtian: ?
Her mind went blank for a moment. Eyes wide, lips slightly parted, she struggled to process the doctor’s words, her gaze unfocused as she stared at the report indicating a pregnancy of nearly twelve weeks.
A sudden wave of dizziness nearly knocked her off the high stool. She gripped the edge of the table tightly to keep from tipping over and collapsing onto the floor.
No wonder she had been constantly nauseous, her legs swollen, unable to stomach raw foods or coffee.
The doctor continued, “It’s normal for omegas to experience an overwhelming need for their alpha’s pheromones during pregnancy. For safety, your partner should also come in for a check-up. When would they be available? We can schedule an appointment now.”
“She might not have time.”
Song Shuangtian didn’t know which fact to process first that she wasn’t an alpha but an omega, or that not only was she an omega, but she was also pregnant.
“But there wasn’t a complete mark.”
“Yes, your constitution is very unique. Only when encountering an alpha with an extremely high compatibility rate would you experience a heat cycle. With absolute compatibility, anything is possible.”
Fuck.
It wasn’t until the doctor left after their shift that Song Shuangtian snapped out of her daze. Frantically, she opened her phone and saw three missed calls from Ji Mingxue and several messages from Yuan Yin.
Yuan Yin: “I calculated that you and Ji Mingxue would have a child together. How did you end up getting Ji Mingxue pregnant?”
Song Shuangtian: “No, I’m the one who’s pregnant.”
Yuan Yin: “??????”
Yuan Yin: “Ji Mingxue is so wild she got an alpha pregnant??”
Song Shuangtian was at a loss for words: “Please just stop asking.”
