After Little Sweet Omega Runs with the Ball - Chapter 16
When Song Shuangtian stood before the private dock, she was wearing the red dress Ji Mingxue had specially tailored for her.
The crimson skirt ended just above her knees, its fitted design accentuating the omega’s slender waist. As the sea breeze swept past, she had to free one hand to hold down the fluttering hem.
“So, Ji is this the one?”
Like anyone encountering figures far beyond her own social standing, Song Shuangtian glanced somewhat awkwardly at the alpha beside her. Meanwhile, the alpha standing before them struggled to maintain composure.
Yuan Yin: “…”
The corner of Yuan Yin’s mouth twitched, barely keeping her expression neutral.
What the hell.
Last night, Yuan Yin had been at a bar, arms wrapped around a girl she’d just met, when her phone suddenly rang. She’d been about to hang up without a second thought until she saw Song Shuangtian’s name flashing on the screen. She excused herself to a quieter spot to answer.
On the other end, Song Shuangtian was silent for a moment before asking, “Are you free tomorrow?”
Confused, Yuan Yin replied, “If you’re asking me out, no. I’ve got plans friends invited me out on a boat.”
Another pause. Then, “Have fun.”
The call ended abruptly. Yuan Yin stared at her phone, then at the impatient girl waiting for her at the table.
Shrugging it off, she pulled the girl into her arms.
“Be good. I’ll take you out on the boat tomorrow.”
He Yanyan, the girl Yuan Yin had brought along, blinked in bewilderment at her alpha patron, then at the seemingly ordinary office worker accompanying the infamous head of M Group.
This was truly an elite gathering everyone here was someone extraordinary.
In this circle, invitations for any event were always extended to Ji Mingxue, the undisputed heavyweight.
Of course, no one ever checked the guest list. Everyone knew each other, and no one actually expected Ji Mingxue to grace them with her presence.
Yet here she was with a date, no less.
Song Shuangtian: “Pleasure to meet you.”
She lifted her hand lazily, offering a half-smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.
Yuan Yin felt her scalp prickle under that gaze, forcing her own strained smile as they shook hands, each lost in their own thoughts.
Yuan Yin pressed her thumb into Song Shuangtian’s palm, a silent complaint for not giving her a heads-up.
When she first spotted Song Shuangtian, Yuan Yin had nearly rushed over to tease her for changing her mind about coming.
Turns out, she was here on a mission.
Their handshake lasted a beat too long. Ji Mingxue subtly brushed a hand against Song Shuangtian’s waist.
The omega withdrew her hand, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. No one would guess she’d known the alpha in front of her, the one holding a beauty in one arm and a white Maltese in the other for nearly two decades.
Only after boarding did Ji Mingxue murmur in her ear, “I know you have issues with ST Group, but now isn’t the time to make a scene. Those fools will pay for it.”
Yuan Yin, whose hearing was sharp enough to catch every word:
“…”
Her expression twisted.
So I’ve just become part of your foreplay?
He Yanyan, still clinging to Yuan Yin: “?”
The white Maltese in her arms let out a couple of whimpers. He Yanyan immediately patted its head. “Shh, don’t bark.”
Yuan Yin scoffed. “Let the single dog whine. What’s the big deal?”
The moment Song Shuangtian stepped onto the yacht, she felt unsteady on her feet. Her once rosy complexion gradually paled with the undulating waves of the sea.
She reclined on a deck chair under the sun, a pair of peach-pink sunglasses perched on her nose, a freshly opened coconut resting beside her.
The shade of the parasol cast over the omega’s pale face, her lipstick perfectly masking the lack of color on her lips.
He Yanyan sat on the adjacent deck chair, combing the fur of her Maltese with a small brush. The little white dog obediently rolled onto its back, letting its owner groom its belly.
“I’ve heard of you.”
Song Shuangtian abruptly lifted her head, her peach-blossom eyes glazed with a fragile weakness from the boat’s sway.
“What?”
He Yanyan stroked the silver necklace around her neck. “When I bought this necklace, your name was listed as the designer.”
For a moment, Song Shuangtian didn’t react. She pushed her sunglasses up onto her forehead, squinting as she examined the necklace before finally relaxing back into her chair.
Oh, that was her first project after joining M Group.
The necklace cost less than thirty thousand something an average office worker could afford with some savings.
Among the guests were a few rising-star jewelers and the owner of a real estate company, all part of the new generation of power players, close enough in age to mingle easily.
Out of respect for Ji Mingxue, they all treated Song Shuangtian quite well.
No sooner had they boarded than a row of fishing rods was set up for deep-sea angling, while two others started a barbecue grill at the back.
He Yanyan had once come from a well-off family, though their fortunes had declined in recent years, leaving her clinging to the last remnants of past dignity.
“It’s a shame someone as talented as you is just following Ji Mingxue around. I envy people like you capable, independent, able to make a name for yourself without relying on others.”
He Yanyan saw Song Shuangtian as one of her own kind someone who had to cling to a wealthy patron like a dodder vine to maintain a respectable life.
Song Shuangtian offered her a helpless smile.
“Not joining the fun? I know how to deep-sea fish. I’ll treat you to grilled sea bass tonight.”
As the yacht rocked with the waves, Song Shuangtian felt another wave of dizziness. She waved a hand dismissively. “No, you go ahead.”
With that, she gripped the parasol for support, wrapped a fleece blanket around herself, and hurried into the cabin.
The moment she stepped inside, her legs gave out, and she dropped to one knee, clutching her stomach as she retched violently.
The scent of omega pheromones filled the cabin before dispersing with a gust of sea wind.
Dizzy and weak, even standing upright felt impossible.
The omega collapsed onto the cabin’s stiff bed.
She might be running a fever.
Her body alternated between chills and feverish heat, and with each lurch of the boat, dark spots flickered across her vision. Another wave of nausea hit, leaving her retching until nothing came up but the convulsions of her empty stomach.
Song Shuangtian fished out two motion sickness pills from the drawer and swallowed them with a gulp of mineral water.
“I shouldn’t have come.”
On the deck.
“Just say the word about the exhibition, and I’ll arrange it for Ms. Song top-tier, no expense spared.”
Just then, Ji Mingxue’s fishing rod jerked as a fish took the bait. With a swift motion, she hauled up a grouper, its tail thrashing, water droplets scattering,
“Where is Song Shuangtian?”
Ji Mingxue had just been chatting with someone nearby about Song Shuangtian’s recent design works, intending to introduce Song to the people around her. In the design industry, connections were everything, and since Song Shuangtian was now under her wing, she certainly wouldn’t let her junior colleague suffer any disadvantages.
No one around noticed, but Yuan Yin frowned slightly. She had done a tarot reading yesterday, and it suggested this trip wouldn’t go smoothly.
He Yanyan had just walked over and whispered, “Miss Song seems to have gone back to her room. She doesn’t look well.”
“Haha, seems like Miss Song isn’t giving you any face.”
Thanks to Song Shuangtian having lived with her aunt for years, none of these nouveau riche knew her name. The comment sparked another round of laughter.
Ji Mingxue tossed the grouper onto the deck for someone to handle. “I’ll go check on her.”
The alpha’s brow furrowed, displeased by Song Shuangtian’s sudden departure.
Not feeling well?
Ji Mingxue thought her little lover was throwing another tantrum. That girl really didn’t know what was good for her. She had spoiled her far too much.
