After Knowing the Plot, I Ended Up with the Female Supporting Character - Chapter 9
Ever since Ye Chuxia finished speaking, Yi Nanyan had become completely mute. No matter what Ye Chuxia said, she would selectively ignore it, refusing to respond.
Even when Ye Chuxia deliberately poked her back with her fingers, messed with her hair, or pretended to cry, Yi Nanyan remained unresponsive, like an emotionless robot.
This puzzled Ye Chuxia. Had she said something offensive or crossed a line? She didn’t think so.
Still, it probably wasn’t a big deal. If Yi Nanyan were truly angry, she would have dropped Ye Chuxia right then and there instead of carrying her to the hospital.
After about ten minutes of walking, Yi Nanyan finally followed the navigation to a small clinic. The moment they entered, she let out a sigh of relief.
To be honest, Yi Nanyan had never experienced such oppressive summer heat before. She usually traveled by car, stayed in air-conditioned spaces, and even exercised indoors. Now, forced to walk for so long under the blazing sun, she felt her skin had darkened several shades in just those short minutes.
She fanned herself, but for some reason, she suddenly felt it wasn’t as refreshing as when Ye Chuxia fanned her.
Having carried Ye Chuxia all the way here, Yi Nanyan naturally began to sweat. Throughout the journey, Ye Chuxia had continuously fanned her with her hand, though Yi Nanyan had initially thought the gesture futile, only adding to her discomfort.
Yet now, she realized it might have had some effect after all.
At least, her skin was a cool, porcelain white, like the first snowfall of winter—pure and refreshing, making anyone who looked at her feel a cool breeze on their face. Though her body remained hot, her heart subconsciously felt a little cooler.
Contrastingly, her body temperature was as warm as polished jade, making Yi Nanyan feel as if she were carrying a large furnace on her back, the heat instantly drying her throat.
Unaware of Yi Nanyan’s thoughts, Ye Chuxia tilted her head back and feigned concern. “Big Sister Nanyan, aren’t you tired? Why don’t you sit down? I can stand for a while.”
When Yi Nanyan carried Ye Chuxia into the clinic, they had already drawn the attention of everyone present. After all, both women were strikingly beautiful, and no one could resist stealing a few extra glances.
Though small, the clinic wasn’t just frequented by Ye Chuxia and her friends; other patients were present as well. All the chairs were occupied, leaving only the one Ye Chuxia now sat on.
After all, it’s fine to admire someone’s looks, but there’s no way I’m giving up my seat!
However, when Ye Chuxia spoke, she immediately caught the attention of a boy who had been engrossed in his game on his phone. Blushing, he put away his phone and offered his chair.
“S-sister, please sit.”
Yi Nanyan, accustomed to being pampered since childhood, didn’t feel the slightest bit embarrassed and immediately took the seat. “Thank you.”
“N-no problem.” The boy’s face flushed even redder.
Such a small gesture is something many people could do, but most of the time it depends on the other person’s appearance. After all, it’s not like they’re a patient; whether they sit or not doesn’t really matter.
Leaning back in the chair, Ye Chuxia pouted at Yi Nanyan. “Big Sister Nanyan, I’m a little thirsty. Could you go buy me a bottle of water?”
Yi Nanyan remained motionless, her gaze sweeping across Ye Chuxia’s glossy lips. She smirked coldly. “Weren’t you asking me if I was tired just now? Now you’re ordering me around? Don’t you think I’m tired?”
Ye Chuxia blinked, her eyes welling up with tears. “Because the shop is right next door. Big Sister Nanyan looks really thirsty, but I can’t move right now…”
“Stop holding back your tears!” Yi Nanyan glared at her, abruptly standing up from her chair and muttering, “Trouble magnet!”
She walked straight out the door and returned holding two bottles of mineral water.
Ye Chuxia’s standard angelic smile, sweet and innocent, reappeared. “Thank you, Big Sister Nanyan~”
Feeling a little parched, Ye Chuxia took a sip from her bottle, its cool surface refreshing against her hand. She glanced at Yi Nanyan’s water, then realized the chill in her own bottle was only from touching the other. She tugged at Yi Nanyan’s sleeve, putting on a pitiful expression.
“Big Sister Nanyan, I want to drink your cold one.”
Yi Nanyan shot her a sidelong glance. “Patients shouldn’t drink cold water.”
“It’s just a leg injury,” Ye Chuxia protested, suspecting Yi Nanyan was deliberately retaliating. After all, who would choose room-temperature water over a cold drink in the summer?
Ye Chuxia wasn’t one for health fads; she always drank cold beverages in the summer, except during her period.
She started swinging Yi Nanyan’s arm. “Big Sister Nanyan—”
She drew out her voice, making it sound sweet and innocent, yet without any hint of artificiality—a master at playing the innocent.
But Yi Nanyan had already taken a sip from her bottle, so she firmly refused to share.
Besides, this girl’s painful periods might have been brought on by drinking cold water like this. Her weight was so low it didn’t look healthy at all. In this case, it was best to stick with room-temperature water.
For the first time, Ye Chuxia’s act of sweetness had failed, making her wonder if her skills had somehow diminished. After all, this tactic had always worked flawlessly on elders, and even against peers, its effectiveness only slightly weakened. But how could Yi Nanyan possibly resist it?
Before she could figure out why Yi Nanyan was being so firm this time, the doctor finished treating other patients and approached.
Ye Chuxia’s legs were only grazed, with no sprains. After examining her, the doctor simply prescribed some ointment, his gaze lingering on Yi Nanyan with a mixture of exasperation and amusement.
He’d been expecting something much more serious when he saw the girl being carried over someone’s shoulder like that. Was this all?
As the doctor cleaned the wounds with hydrogen peroxide, Ye Chuxia gasped sharply. Her skin was exceptionally delicate, and she usually took great care to protect it. Though she had a high tolerance for pain, injuries inevitably affected her mobility and mood.
If I’d known it would hurt this much, I would have fallen on my butt instead, she thought.
Internally, she was still capable of such thoughts, but externally, tears welled up in her eyes from the pain. Yi Nanyan, unable to bear witnessing such a gruesome wound, shuddered in sympathy and blurted out, “Doctor, be gentler!”
The doctor was speechless, helplessly spreading his hands. “How can I be gentle? If it hurts this much now, just wait until we start applying the ointment!”
He understood that children these days were often pampered. After all, young girls generally have a lower tolerance for pain. Was Big Sister Nanyan just worried?
What struck him most was the striking difference in appearance between the two sisters. They hardly looked like they were related.
Yi Nanyan remained unaware of the doctor’s thoughts. She was genuinely pained by the sight. Ye Chuxia’s delicate appearance was incredibly deceptive. Her large, dark eyes exuded a childlike innocence and naivety, as clear as if one could see right through them. Now, a glistening layer of tears made her look like a newborn kitten abandoned and lost, her pink nose evoking an irresistible urge to protect and comfort.
Moreover, Yi Nanyan had suffered similar injuries as a child. Having rarely been hurt growing up, each incident had left a vivid memory, and she could still faintly recall the pain. This made her empathize with Ye Chuxia’s reaction, rather than dismiss it as melodrama.
Yet, failing to properly clean the wound would increase the risk of infection, and Yi Nanyan knew she couldn’t match the doctor’s expertise.
After a moment’s thought, Yi Nanyan swallowed the words she had been about to say—words that would have directed the doctor to apply the medicine directly. Instead, she squatted down beside Ye Chuxia and pressed the bottle of chilled mineral water, still containing ice cubes, against her leg.
The cold helped dull the pain to some extent. Ye Chuxia blinked, watching Yi Nanyan’s tense expression as she performed this act. Suddenly, she found the striking beauty’s features inexplicably endearing, like a fearsome dragon that, despite its terrifying appearance, had become so plump from overeating that its original ferocity no longer intimidated. Instead, one wanted to pinch its soft, rounded flesh.
But Ye Chuxia’s thoughts were quickly interrupted.
The medicine was designed to stimulate wound healing, and it worked well—too well. The moment it was applied, tears streamed down Ye Chuxia’s face without any effort.
This was the epitome of “pear blossom glistening with dew,” evoking pity at first glance. Yi Nanyan stared for a few seconds, suddenly wondering if Ye Chuxia’s tears just now hadn’t carried a hint of affected drama.
This reminded her of the kitten she had rescued the first time this troublemaker had tricked her. It was raining that day, and the pitiful little cat had seemed to plead for help. Yi Nanyan couldn’t resist ignoring it and had brought the kitten home.
During her illness, the kitten had been clingy and adorable. But once she recovered, she would swipe at anyone who tried to pet her, refusing to let anyone touch her. Yet the moment you got truly angry or tried to punish her, she would start wailing, looking at you with those pitiful eyes, emitting whimpering sounds that tugged at your heartstrings. Even before you’d done anything, you’d already feel guilty. And even if she immediately acted like nothing had happened the moment you paid attention to her, you’d still think:
What’s the point in getting upset with her?
Yi Nanyan was feeling this way now. She suspected Ye Chuxia had been pretending to cry earlier and was only genuinely in pain now. But it was just a suspicion, and besides, Ye Chuxia did look genuinely pitiful. The anger that had flared up in her heart instantly died down, leaving her to seethe inwardly:
Little liar… even trying to trick me into getting her water by pretending to cry!
With a soft scoff, Yi Nanyan raised her gaze. “Here’s your water. Take it yourself!”
Ye Chuxia didn’t think much of it as she took the water. In her eyes, Yi Nanyan was the type of person who was all bark and no bite, but that didn’t mean she was patient. Besides, crouching was tiring, so this reaction was perfectly understandable.
So she didn’t refuse, though her hand trembled slightly. The pain was real, even worse than when she fell earlier.
Yi Nanyan fell silent, her grip on the water bottle tightening.
Ye Chuxia stared at her in surprise. “Big Sister Nanyan?”
“Shut up!”
“Okay.”
