After Knowing the Plot, I Ended Up with the Female Supporting Character - Chapter 8
Having failed to achieve her goal, Yi Nanyan’s expression darkened further. She gritted her teeth, suppressing her frustration as she reminded herself that there would be other opportunities. Glancing at Ye Chuxia, she said, “Let’s go to a shoe store first.”
Ye Chuxia looked at her, puzzled. “Why?”
Yi Nanyan shot a disgusted glance at the high heels she’d used to stomp on someone’s foot. “They’re dirty!”
Yi Nanyan was a bit of a clean freak. The mere thought of those shoes having made physical contact with that delinquent made her skin crawl. She had no intention of wearing them again and wanted to change them immediately.
Ye Chuxia blinked. “I remember there’s a shoe store nearby.” She glanced down at Yi Nanyan’s high heels and offered considerately, “Why don’t we swap shoes now? We seem to wear the same size.”
To maintain her innocent image, Ye Chuxia had put on a pair of white sneakers, which made her look even more youthful and lovely. Yi Nanyan glanced at them with disdain, clearly not in line with her aesthetic, but she reluctantly nodded.
Regardless, they were still better than those “infected” high heels.
Ye Chuxia was also wearing white mesh socks, which looked completely out of place with the vibrant high heels. Yi Nanyan felt the same, but her obsessive cleanliness won out, and she frowned as she slipped them on.
Ye Chuxia’s arm was still linked through Yi Nanyan’s. Throughout her life, she’d worn high heels only a handful of times, so she still felt somewhat uneasy.
It wasn’t that she disliked high heels; it was just that they were impractical for work compared to sneakers. Moreover, her skin was so delicate that even slightly ill-fitting or low-quality shoes would either give her blisters or cause an allergic reaction. Good-quality shoes were too expensive for her to afford, so Ye Chuxia refused to waste money on shoes she might never wear.
Since she rarely wore high heels, facing these seven- or eight-centimeter stilettos, Ye Chuxia naturally walked with extra care.
Yi Nanyan pursed her lips at the sight. She had loved high heels ever since she was old enough to understand, primarily because she hadn’t grown taller until her third year of high school. Only by wearing high heels and looking down at others could she feel comfortable.
However, she also knew that not all girls liked high heels. Some simply disliked them, while others weren’t good at walking in them. Ye Chuxia clearly belonged to the type who rarely wore high heels. Now, suddenly challenging herself to walk in such high-heeled shoes, she could easily twist her ankle. Since Ye Chuxia had changed her shoes because of her, Yi Nanyan didn’t shake off her hand and deliberately slowed her pace. This allowed Ye Chuxia to reach the store entrance without incident.
The shops near the school were all budget-friendly, with no room for luxury stores. Yi Nanyan was disappointed by the selection of shoes in the store, finally settling on a pair of barely satisfactory high heels after much deliberation.
Seeing this, Ye Chuxia immediately removed her high heels and slipped back into her white sneakers, feeling instantly more comfortable.
Yi Nanyan watched coldly, scoffing softly. She pulled out her phone to pay, evading Ye Chuxia’s hand reaching out to link arms with her again, and strode straight toward the door.
As if oblivious to her displeasure, Ye Chuxia called out softly, “Wait for me~”
Her voice was so sweet that it made people instinctively obey her. Yi Nanyan unconsciously stopped in her tracks, but when she realized what she was doing, she sped up instead, her strides lengthening. Fortunately, she had long since grown accustomed to walking and running in high heels; at this pace, she would have been liable to fall flat on her face.
Ye Chuxia was still clinging to her delicate persona. Someone with poor health, naturally, wouldn’t be good at running. So she chased after Yi Nanyan for a while but couldn’t catch up. If Yi Nanyan hadn’t still been hearing the calls behind her, she might have thought Ye Chuxia had abandoned her again.
So useless!
She was too proud to slow down, subconsciously racking her brain for a plausible excuse to ease her pace. But before she could come up with anything, a sudden cry of pain rang out from behind her.
Yi Nanyan’s heart tightened. She turned back to see Ye Chuxia sprawled on the ground, a few tears glistening like jewels in the sunlight, refracting a hazy halo of light.
“Are you an idiot? How can you trip while just walking?” Yi Nanyan snapped, storming back to pull her up. Seeing the scrape on Ye Chuxia’s knee, she hissed involuntarily, a dull ache spreading through her own knee.
Ye Chuxia lowered her head, her thick eyelashes trembling slightly, her pink lips pressed together. Her teary eyes made her look pitiful and heart-wrenching.
“I’m sorry,” her soft, trembling voice quivered, and then she burst into tears. “Big Sister Nanyan, it hurts so much!”
The sweet, delicate sound of her voice sent a tingling sensation through Yi Nanyan’s heart. Yi Nanyan’s fingers twitched, her expression growing colder. “I know!”
She pulled out her phone, checked for nearby hospitals, found the closest one, and started navigation. In a stern voice, she said, “Let’s go.”
Ye Chuxia blinked, her nose pink and her eyes glistening as she looked at Yi Nanyan for help. “Big Sister Nanyan, it hurts. I… I can’t move my leg.”
Yi Nanyan: “…………”
She eyed the scrape on Ye Chuxia’s knee with suspicion, momentarily wondering if it wasn’t just a scrape, but a broken leg!
But some girls really are that delicate, and this one didn’t seem particularly strong. This kind of reaction seemed normal.
Seeing Yi Nanyan’s silence, Ye Chuxia forced a weak smile, looking dejected. “Big Sister Nanyan, it’s okay. I can walk on my own.”
“I really owe you one!” Yi Nanyan gritted out, crouching down in front of Ye Chuxia. “Get on!”
Her originally dull eyes lit up immediately. She leaned forward, her soft voice carrying a smile: “Big Sister Nanyan, you’re so nice.”
Yi Nanyan snorted, her expression darkening.
She had a well-proportioned frame with a slender waist and long legs, giving off an impression of fragility. Yet her earlier takedown of the thug had proven she was trained and surprisingly strong. Still, Yi Nanyan had braced herself for the effort of carrying Ye Chuxia.
After all, she had grown up pampered, never having carried anything heavy in her life.
But when Ye Chuxia leaned against her, Yi Nanyan was surprised by how light she felt—practically weightless, like the barely-used high school backpack she’d carried back in the day, which had been more for show than function.
These girls today are crazy about being thin, Yi Nanyan thought. Don’t they know what ‘moderation’ means?
However, since they weren’t close, Yi Nanyan kept her thoughts to herself. She walked straight ahead, following the navigation, her gaze fixed forward. Ye Chuxia’s slender, pale arms draped across her chest, and every time Yi Nanyan glanced down, she felt inexplicably uneasy.
She had never been this close to someone her age before. She could even smell Ye Chuxia’s subtle body scent.
Yi Nanyan could tell it wasn’t perfume. It was a natural scent from Ye Chuxia’s body—a peculiar aroma, not refreshing, but slightly sweet and milky.
“Are you drinking milk every day?” Yi Nanyan asked, puzzled.
“Yep,” Ye Chuxia replied matter-of-factly. “Powdered milk is really tasty! Want to try some, Big Sister Nanyan?”
Yi Nanyan frowned deeply, clearly disgusted. “Who would want to drink that stuff?!”
Ye Chuxia blinked innocently. “I do.”
Yi Nanyan was instantly speechless, her expression turning even frostier.
Unfazed, Ye Chuxia continued to enjoy her powdered milk. This stemmed from being spoiled as a child; she hadn’t been weaned until she was eight or nine. Now it was more a habit, as if drinking the same milk could transport her back to those carefree days.
She saw nothing wrong with this. In this day and age, some people liked milk tea, others preferred cola. What was wrong with her liking milk? At least powdered milk had nutritional value!
Yi Nanyan felt as if she wasn’t carrying an adult on her back, but a giant infant—one who had grown tall but not smart, with such peculiar interests that she was clearly the type of fool who could be easily lured away by a single piece of candy on the street. The thought that this fool had managed to deceive her twice left Yi Nanyan feeling even more irritable.
Doesn’t this prove she’s even stupider than a fool?
Ye Chuxia, seemingly oblivious to Yi Nanyan’s foul mood, leaned closer and whispered in her ear, “Big Sister Nanyan, why aren’t you walking anymore? Are you tired?” She drew out the word “sister” and spoke so close to her ear that her breath felt sweetly syrupy, like a fatal blow that pierced Yi Nanyan’s heart with a gaping hole.
Yi Nanyan’s expression darkened instantly. “Don’t get so close when you’re talking to me,” she snapped coldly. “Do you think we’re that close?”
The person on her back fell silent, obediently remaining still. Yi Nanyan fell into a brooding silence and took a few steps forward. A gust of wind sent a chill down her spine, making her feel a sudden draft on her back.
Yi Nanyan pursed her lips, then stiffly said, “…Your voice is so soft. You might as well lean in close when you speak, or I won’t hear you.”
Ye Chuxia blinked, leaned in again, and said in a soft voice, “Big Sister Nanyan, your back is wet. Aren’t you hot?”
Yi Nanyan: …Fuck!
What made her think this idiot was crying?!
Ye Chuxia knew when to stop, not wanting to truly provoke Yi Nanyan. She reached out to wipe the sweat from Yi Nanyan’s forehead and said softly, “I’m sorry, Big Sister Nanyan. It’s all my fault you’re stuck suffering alongside me now.”
Yi Nanyan’s breath hitched. This time, she didn’t snap back with harsh words, but her voice was icy: “If you understand, that’s enough.”
What a walking disaster!
Ye Chuxia’s eyes twinkled, barely suppressing a giggle. She wasn’t sure if Yi Nanyan’s prickly personality could be considered tsundere, but her words certainly didn’t match her feelings. What was strange, though, was how her mood could shift as quickly as June weather—calmed down one moment, turning into a raging demon the next.
Ye Chuxia prided herself on her cunning, yet Yi Nanyan’s mercurial emotions remained a mystery to her. Still, understanding wasn’t necessary. Whether Yi Nanyan was seething with resentment or secretly pleased, Ye Chuxia could easily manipulate her—turning her into a useful tool rather than a ticking time bomb.
