After I Married the Comatose CEO - Chapter 2
After some effort, Xie Qiu convinced Su Wanrong to wait three days before holding the wedding.
As dinner time approached, Xie Qiu made an excuse to leave.
Su Wanrong held his hand, unwilling to let him go, as if she were afraid her future daughter-in-law would run away. She said sincerely, “Xiao Qiu, even if Siyan doesn’t wake up right away, don’t worry. The He family will never treat you poorly.”
Xie Qiu replied, “I understand.”
Su Wanrong smiled through her tears. “Good child.”
Xie Qiu comforted her with a few more words and slowly pulled his hand away.
“Xiao Qiu, take this card first.” Su Wanrong suddenly pulled out a card like a magic trick. “Think of it as pocket money from your Auntie.”
Xie Qiu was stunned. He tried to decline: “How can I accept this?”
“Why shouldn’t you?” Su Wanrong held the card out to him. “We are going to be family soon. Whatever belongs to Siyan belongs to you.”
Xie Qiu was secretly shocked. He couldn’t even imagine how rich He Siyan actually was, let alone think of that money as his own.
Seeing no reaction, Su Wanrong tried to stuff the card directly into his jeans pocket.
“I really shouldn’t…” Xie Qiu’s mouth was saying no, but his feet were stuck honestly to the floor.
He had just arrived in this world with nothing but the clothes on his back and empty pockets. This card came at the perfect time; it was very hard to refuse.
Once the bank card slid successfully into his pocket, Xie Qiu stopped being shy and thanked her openly: “Then I will accept it for now. Thank you, Auntie.”
“Good boy.” Su Wanrong relaxed and patted his arm. “Go on, Xiao Qiu. Remember to come back early.”
From her tone, it was clear she already considered Xie Qiu part of the family.
Xie Qiu got into the car he came in and left the He family estate.
On the way back, watching the scenery fly past the window, he suddenly slapped his forehead.
I messed up. He was so busy accepting the card that he forgot to ask for the password.
Xie Qiu instinctively reached into his pocket and felt the card. Then he remembered he hadn’t used a phone since arriving in this world. The original owner’s phone had likely been taken away by the Xie couple.
Upon returning to the Xie house, Yao Man rushed to meet him impatiently. “Xiao Qiu, you did a great job!”
Xie Qiu played dumb. “What happened?”
“Madam He called just now and said she is extremely satisfied with you.” Yao Man couldn’t stop smiling. “The He family will prepare everything. You just wait peacefully to marry into luxury and enjoy your life!”
Xie Qiu was silent for a few seconds before suddenly asking, “How much money did the He family give?”
“They gave ten mill—” Yao Man abruptly shut her mouth and covered it with a dry laugh. “You child, this is a happy occasion. Why are you talking about money?”
Xie Qiu didn’t push for the answer. Instead, he asked, “Can I have my phone back now?”
“Of course.” Yao Man agreed immediately and gave Aunt Wang a look.
Aunt Wang went into the kitchen and soon came out with a phone. “Young Master, here is your phone.”
Xie Qiu took it. “If there’s nothing else, I’ll go upstairs.”
Yao Man waved him away. “Nothing else. Go back to your room and rest.”
She watched his slim, straight back as he left. She felt a vague sense that her adopted son had changed into a different person, but she couldn’t put her finger on what exactly was different.
Yao Man figured she was overthinking. Regardless, in two days, once he was married off to the He family, everything would be safe.
Back in his room, Xie Qiu stared at the phone’s lock screen in deep thought. After a long while, he experimentally typed in a string of numbers.
The phone actually unlocked. The original owner used the same password as he did.
Xie Qiu was delighted. He lay on the bed and started scrolling through the phone, checking WeChat and other social media apps.
From this, he discovered that the original owner was also a second-year college student—and surprisingly, he was also a law major.
Xie Qiu frowned. With so many coincidences, he began to wonder if this character was created based on him.
But who hates me enough to write me as a villainous cannon fodder with such a tragic ending?
Forget it, Xie Qiu thought. There was no point in worrying about that now.
Soon he would be free from the Xie family’s control. As long as he stayed peacefully with the He family for a few years until He Siyan woke up, he could completely escape the tragic fate planned for the original character.
Two days later, Xie Qiu arrived at the He house pulling a small suitcase.
During those two days, Su Wanrong had not only been busy preparing the wedding but had also prepared a brand-new bedroom for her future son-in-law. It was right next to He Siyan’s room.
Xie Qiu walked into the room and took a quick look around.
The bedroom had its own bathroom and a large walk-in closet. Through the transparent cabinet doors, he could see rows of new clothes hanging inside. Some still had the tags on them.
“I didn’t know what you liked, so I just bought some random things,” Su Wanrong explained. “When you have time later, you can go out and buy clothes you like yourself.”
Xie Qiu: “Thank you, Auntie…”
Even if he changed into a new outfit every day, these clothes would last him for months without repeating.
“Let the maid finish tidying up. Let’s go down for dinner.” Su Wanrong affectionately took his arm. “Everyone is waiting to meet you.”
Thinking of the large family, Xie Qiu felt a bit nervous.
The He family was a massive clan with very complicated relationships. On the surface, everyone looked happy, but they all had their own hidden agendas.
What worried him more was his future brother-in-law. The future head of the family, He Jingchen, already seemed to have a very bad impression of him.
“Don’t be nervous.” Su Wanrong noticed his body stiffen and comforted him softly. “The He family members are easy to get along with. Besides, I have your back. No one will dare bully you.”
Xie Qiu pushed his thoughts aside. “Okay, Auntie.”
The two of them arrived in the living room. The crowd fell silent instantly. A large table of people all turned their eyes toward Xie Qiu at the same time.
Some looks were curious, some were judging, and some held a hidden touch of disdain.
Xie Qiu recognized He Jingchen immediately. Since he had the “main character aura,” he was noticeably more handsome than the other background characters.
However, the two brothers did not look alike. He Siyan had a mature, cold handsomeness, while He Jingchen looked brighter and sunnier.
While Xie Qiu was observing them, He Jingchen stood up and pulled out the chair at the head of the table. “Mother, please have a seat.”
Master He’s eldest son, He Zhang, was a useless man who did nothing in his youth and was constantly involved in scandals. In a fit of anger, the old Master had kicked him out of the He Group.
While the other children were hoping the Old Master would pick a new heir, he personally trained He Siyan instead. The Old Master only retired after He Siyan had total control over the He Group.
Now that He Siyan was lying in a hospital bed, Madam He had become the highest-ranking person in the He family.
Su Wanrong led Xie Qiu over and seated him in the first spot next to the head of the table before sitting down herself.
He Jingchen looked at Xie Qiu and secretly gritted his teeth.
Xie Qiu looked straight ahead, pretending not to feel the other’s unfriendly gaze.
“This is Xie Qiu. Starting today, he is officially a part of our He family,” Su Wanrong’s voice was as gentle as ever. “I hope everyone can accept him from the bottom of your hearts and respect him just as you respect Siyan.”
Xie Qiu spoke with a beaming smile: “Please take good care of me from now on.”
He was very pretty. When he smiled, his large round eyes curved into crescents, making him look very likable.
“Of course, family must look out for one another.” A refined middle-aged man wearing glasses spoke first. “Xiao Qiu, I am your Second Uncle. This is a gift for our first meeting.”
As he spoke, He Feng opened a box. Inside lay a diamond-encrusted wristwatch.
Xie Qiu couldn’t see it clearly from a distance, but he knew it must be worth a lot. He instinctively looked at Su Wanrong.
Su Wanrong gave a small nod, signaling him to accept it.
Xie Qiu replied sweetly: “Thank you, Second Uncle.”
“Xiao Qiu, I am your Little Aunt.” Before anyone else could react, He Jing grabbed the conversation. “I have a gift for you too!”
Everyone began presenting the gifts they had prepared. Xie Qiu’s smile became more sincere and brighter with every gift.
Just as he couldn’t help but wonder how he would carry so many gifts back to his room, Su Wanrong said, “Uncle Lin, please collect the gifts for Xiao Qiu and bring them to his room later.”
Xie Qiu: “…”
Sorry, he had been too small-minded.
“Jingchen.” Su Wanrong looked at her younger son and asked gently, “What gift did you prepare for Xiao Qiu?”
Just now, everyone had rushed to give their gifts, except for He Jingchen, who sat there in silence.
“I…” He Jingchen didn’t expect to be called out by his mother in front of everyone. He panicked for a few seconds but then calmed down. “My gift is quite heavy; it wasn’t easy to bring here directly.”
“It’s okay, no rush,” Xie Qiu stepped in to smooth things over. “I have already received my ‘brother’s’ kind thoughts.”
Su Wanrong smiled and agreed, “Xiao Qiu is right. We are family now; there’s no hurry.”
Then the butler stepped forward: “Madam, dinner is ready.”
Su Wanrong nodded: “Then let’s serve the food.”
The dining table became lively again. Xie Qiu accidentally made eye contact with He Jingchen and was given a glare.
Xie Qiu blinked innocently.
He Jingchen was stunned for a moment, then quickly looked away.
After dinner, everyone left the table to go about their business.
Xie Qiu chatted with Su Wanrong for a while before returning to his room.
He closed the door and looked at the box piled high with gifts. His lips curled up again.
The He family was large, and everyone who came tonight was an influential member of the clan. Each one was very generous.
Xie Qiu picked up the watch box on top. When he saw the logo printed on it, his eyes widened slightly.
It seemed he was really going to be rich.
Before he traveled to this world, Xie Qiu worked as a tutor for middle schoolers on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; worked as a waiter in a cafe on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays; and even took on essay-writing jobs on weekends.
Even cows and horses know to return to the shed when it rains, but he had been a “workhorse” who had to work every single day, rain or shine, just to earn a tiny bit of money.
But now things were different. He could make a fortune just from the “meeting gifts” the He family gave him.
Xie Qiu couldn’t help but start planning. Once He Siyan woke up, he would leave the He family with this fortune, finish his studies, and open a small law firm. He would work hard to make it big.
Since He Siyan was so rich, he surely wouldn’t care about these small things.
Wait, according to the original book, by the time He Siyan wakes up, the He Group will have already changed owners. Maybe he should give half back to He Siyan then…
Xie Qiu took a deep breath, put the watch box back, walked across the room, and pushed open a door.
The other side of this door connected directly to He Siyan’s room.
Even though he knew the person on the bed was unconscious, Xie Qiu still stepped lightly.
He walked to the bedside and looked down at that handsome, thin face.
Mr. He was truly handsome. Even with a feeding tube, he looked like a high-tech being from a sci-fi movie.
After quietly admiring him for a moment, Xie Qiu whispered, “Mr. He, we are getting married tomorrow.”
The sleeping man, of course, gave no reaction.
“I’m sorry. No one asked for your opinion on such a big thing like marriage.” Xie Qiu reached out his pinky finger and gently hooked the man’s finger. “How about this? If you don’t agree, move again, okay?”
After saying that, Xie Qiu held his breath and waited nervously for a reaction.
As expected, He Siyan’s hand stayed perfectly still.
Xie Qiu breathed a sigh of relief and mumbled, “Even though it feels like I’m taking advantage of you, I’ll take that as a ‘yes’.”
Just as he finished speaking, the pale, long finger clearly moved once.
Xie Qiu immediately covered the large hand with his own. “I’ll pretend I didn’t see that. Don’t move anymore.”
However, He Siyan seemed determined to argue with him. The hand pressed under his palm began to twitch and wiggle.
Xie Qiu got a bit anxious. He leaned down and whispered into the man’s ear, “Mr. He, I am also being forced to fulfill this engagement. This is just a temporary plan.”
As soon as he said this, the hand went still.
Xie Qiu’s expression became uncertain. Could He Siyan really hear him?
He remembered reading about cases like this. A patient who woke up from a coma once said that he had been conscious the entire time. It was like being trapped in a dark, tiny cabinet—he could feel everything from the outside world but simply could not wake up.
If He Siyan was in the same situation, he was truly too pitiful.
Xie Qiu leaned down again and whispered, “Don’t worry, Mr. He. When you wake up, I will leave on my own and stay far away. I definitely won’t get in your way—”
“What are you doing?” A sharp shout exploded like thunder. “Get away from my brother!”
Xie Qiu jumped in surprise. He turned around to find He Jingchen standing at the door, looking furious.
In this situation, a phrase suddenly popped into Xie Qiu’s mind: Caught in the act.
But very quickly, Xie Qiu straightened his back with confidence. He was marrying He Siyan tomorrow; he wasn’t some random man with no right to be there.
