After I Entered the Book, Did The Heroine Just Got Me? - Chapter 1
The arena was packed, the air was filled with excitement. The audience’s cheers roared so loudly it felt like the stadium itself might be shaken apart. All eyes were fixed on the woman in the left corner of the ring, cheering her name.
She wore a taekwondo uniform, headgear hiding most of her face, but one glance at those soft, smiling peach-blossom eyes was enough to tell she was beautiful.
Her name was Wei Miao, a national taekwondo champion whose story had already become something of a legend at home. To many, she was an icon.
After all, someone born with a congenital heart defect wasn’t supposed to take part in intense physical training, let alone competitive sports. Yet she had defied every limit, fought her way through countless obstacles, and claimed the national championship. And today, for the very first time, she was representing her country on the international stage.
In the ring, Wei Miao steadied her breathing. Her mind drifted back to the argument she had with her cardiologist before the match.
“Wei Miao, you know your condition better than I do. Every single match, every round of training. You’ve been gambling with your life. Your heart is no better than that of a seventy-year-old. It can’t take this anymore. My advice is to retire, get admitted for treatment, and maybe, just maybe—you’ll live quietly until thirty.”
“Thirty? Living like a puppet without a soul? I’d rather burn out at my brightest than waste away under glass. Do you know what it feels like to be treated like fragile porcelain? Only in the ring do I feel truly alive.”
The referee’s whistle snapped her back to reality. She raised her guard, eyes locked on her opponent. Yet an unfamiliar agitation stirred in her chest. The cheers from outside pounded against her skull. Her heartbeat grew weaker and weaker.
Then, bam! The opponent’s heavy punch landed before she could dodge.
Wei Miao collapsed on the mat she loved most. Her life ended at the age of twenty-four.
She wasn’t sure where she was now. Everything around her seemed surreal and shifting. She knew she was dead yet strangely, she could still think.
Like a slideshow, her short life replayed itself before her eyes.
And then, a piercing mechanical voice echoed through the void:
“Generating… system loading… system successfully bound to host Wei Miao. Would you like to activate?”
Before her, two options appeared: Yes and No.
“Please select quickly. Choosing ‘Yes’ will activate the system. Choosing ‘No’ will result in immediate termination of the host.”
If she’d had a body right now, her veins would have popped with fury. What kind of scam choice is this? Of course I’ll pick yes. Who wouldn’t choose life?
She jabbed her nonexistent finger at Yes.
“Smart choice. A wise person adapts to the times. Trust in our system. You won’t regret it,” the voice intoned.
“Now initiating the Cosmic Positive Energy System. Main module loaded. Patch installation complete. Congratulations, host binding and activation successful. Service system no. 690 at your command.”
Wei Miao still had no clue what kind of system this was. “So, wait! Didn’t I just die? What’s going on? What do you do, exactly?”
“No need to worry. As the saying goes: every road has its turn, every boat finds its dock. We’re offering you a second chance at life. Details can wait—time is short. Beginning transfer now.”
A force yanked at her consciousness. The world blurred, then snapped back into focus.
********
“Miao Miao, that shameless slut dared to openly flirt with Brother Lu. We’ve already taught her a lesson. Want to slap her yourself to vent some anger?”
A round-faced girl clung to her arm, smiling ingratiatingly. With her soft cheeks she looked like a sweet, innocent type but her words made Wei Miao’s stomach churn.
What the hell is happening?
Before she could think further, a rush of foreign memories flooded her mind.
The body’s original owner was also named Wei Miao, who’s none other than the “vicious supporting character” in the novel Overbearing CEO Series: School Belle Sweetheart, Don’t Even Think of Running.
Born into luxury, obsessed with the male lead Lu Weinan, she schemed against the heroine until, in the end, Lu Weinan ruined her family and her life. And Lu himself? A shameless womanizer who eventually forced the heroine into a relationship.
The heroine, to her credit, was the only normal one in the whole melodrama. She resisted, she suffered endless torment from villains, and in the end, she took her own life. The novel closed with Lu surrounded by women, still claiming his “deepest love” was the heroine he could never truly have.
Even worse, a shocking number of readers actually found him “deeply devoted.”
After digesting this, Wei Miao could only curse silently. What kind of warped values is this? At least the heroine makes sense!
Right on cue, the system’s voice chimed in:
“Current plot checkpoint: the male and female leads have met. Supporting character Wei Miao is now bullying the heroine in the restroom. This violates the Positive Energy Value Guidelines of Huaguo. Host must immediately correct this behavior and submit a rectification report, or face erasure. Thank you for your cooperation.”
The original text of the novel appeared in her vision:
Liang Qianwei was shoved against the bathroom wall by Han Bing. “So it was one thing when you seduced other men. But now you dare go after our Brother Lu? Today we’ll teach you a lesson!”
Two lackeys pinned the heroine’s arms while Han Bing slapped her across the face again and again until Liang Qianwei’s cheeks turned bright red. Not satisfied, Han Bing dumped a basin of water over her head. “Aren’t you good at seducing men? Let’s see how much they want you like this.”
Wei Miao’s head throbbed. A rectification report? Seriously? But then she looked up.
There sat Liang Qianwei, cheeks burning and clothes soaked through, with her delicate figure faintly visible. Her beauty was striking. With skin like porcelain, eyes wide and glistening, lips naturally pink like blooming peach blossoms. No wonder she had been crowned the campus belle.
Wei Miao sighed and turned to her cronies. “You all go on ahead. I want to speak to her alone.”
The round-faced girl sneered at Liang Qianwei on her way out. “Just wait, bitch. What you got just now was only the beginning. Our Miao Miao will really make you pay later.” With that, she ushered the others out, helpfully closing the door behind them.
Wei Miao was left awkwardly alone. In her past life she had only known how to fight and never once meddling in these petty girl dramas. Handling this sort of situation was far from her specialty.
The least she could do was help the girl up. Wei Miao crouched, reaching out but only to have her hand slapped away.
The girl on the floor glared at her with red-rimmed eyes. “I don’t need your fake kindness! I already told you. I bumped into Lu Weinan by accident. I wasn’t trying to seduce anyone! Why won’t you believe me? Why does no one believe me?”
Her eyes shimmered, on the verge of tears, but she held them back stubbornly, refusing to let a single drop fall in front of Wei Miao.
Wei Miao froze. From the system’s dump of information, she already knew Liang Qianwei was the only sane soul in this twisted soap opera. Men wanted her, women hated her, and all she ever wanted was to live a normal life.
“I believe you,” Wei Miao said at last. “What happened just now, I’m sorry. I didn’t think they would go that far. But it won’t happen again. I promise.”
She tried a gentle smile. Unfortunately, at Kastel Academy, her reputation was fearsome. Everyone knew she despised Liang Qianwei, mocking her for being the campus belle and especially after she had bumped into Lu Weinan.
Liang Qianwei scoffed. “Keep your false sympathy. I didn’t do it, and no matter what you say, that won’t change.” She braced against the stall door and pushed herself to her feet.
But then she caught sight of herself in the mirror. Her blouse was drenched, clinging to her skin, nearly transparent. She couldn’t walk out like this, yet staying in the bathroom forever wasn’t an option either.
Noticing her dilemma, Wei Miao slipped off her jacket and offered it. “Here. Put this on. Your clothes are soaked. It’s not a good look to go out like that.”
She rubbed her ear awkwardly. “I know I wasn’t here when they threw the water, but… still. Sorry.”
Liang Qianwei’s eyes flashed. “Save your fake concern. You could have stopped them earlier. What’s the point of playing kind now? Or is there something hidden in that jacket too? Another trap to humiliate me?”
Wei Miao blinked. Fair enough, if it had been her, she wouldn’t have trusted a thing either. Without a word, she shook the jacket out in front of Liang Qianwei, inside and out, then stuffed it into her arms before she could protest.
And before the girl could even react, Wei Miao had already opened the door and slipped out.
Liang Qianwei stared down at the jacket in her arms, momentarily stunned.
When did this get here…?
