- After I Cross-Dressed, Even My Roommate Kissed Me
- Chapter 5 - "But Sheng Sheng, Don't Worry, He Can't Beat You..."
Song Wen’s small movements weren’t hidden at all; he was blatantly trying to see Pei Yisheng’s reaction. He sat there composed, face tilted up, his playboy demeanor not looking out of place at all. His peach-blossom eyes were filled with a clear, teasing smile.
Pei Yisheng felt his skin crawl. His knuckles turned white as he gripped the spoon in frustration. He pursed his lips and said dryly, “It’s right under your eye.”
“Which eye?” Song Wen asked, tilting his head.
Pei Yisheng thought: You wiped it there yourself, how could you not know?
He pointed to his own face. “Right here.”
“Sheng Sheng, am I some kind of monster? Why are you so unwilling to even give me a wipe? I really can’t see it.”
Song Wen raised the hand that was still stained with cream and gave a reluctant swipe toward the spot Pei Yisheng had indicated. After wiping, he widened his eyes as if only just remembering his hand was dirty. “Oops, I forgot I had cream on my hand.”
Pei Yisheng was helpless. Since the acting had reached this level, he couldn’t pretend to be blind anymore. He pulled out a wet wipe and cleaned Song Wen’s face with a rough, simple motion.
Perhaps it was a bit too rough; Song Wen’s face was rubbed red.
Pei Yisheng muttered inwardly: Serves you right.
Song Wen didn’t care about these details. When you’re trying to coax someone, things are bound to go off the rails occasionally. Right now, Pei Yisheng could act aloof, but once he “captured” Pei Yisheng, there would be plenty of time for the other to cry.
Besides, the way Pei Yisheng acted only proved that he knew nothing he was a blank sheet of paper. Song Wen loved the feeling of being the one to paint on that paper; one day, he wanted to carve his mark all over Pei Yisheng.
After eating the cake, Song Wen finally settled down. Pei Yisheng finished washing up and went to bed. Song Wen didn’t seem used to sleeping early and tossed and turned in bed. In his drowsy state, Pei Yisheng heard the muffled sound of a phone call from the opposite side.
It was faint and rhythmic, actually quite hypnotic.
When he woke up the next morning, Song Wen was still asleep. Pei Yisheng quietly packed his things and slipped out at high speed.
He felt that spending too much time with Song Wen would rot his brain.
It was a rare morning without classes for Pei Yisheng. He enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and took a stroll along the school’s lakeside, planning to head to the study room to read after his food digested.
He hadn’t expected to be so “lucky” as to see Fang Xin by the lake.
He instinctively looked around, terrified that the “Protagonist Gongs” (leads) would leap out from a corner at any moment for a romantic encounter with Fang Xin.
Fortunately, the lakeside was cool and quiet. Aside from Fang Xin and some students jogging, there were no “target figures” that Pei Yisheng was worried about.
Still, he remained cautious. He planned to turn back at the next corner; only the study room could give him a sense of security.
Pei Yisheng’s pace subconsciously quickened, his heart racing.
With only about five meters to go, Fang Xin suddenly let out a cry of pain and collapsed to the ground.
Pei Yisheng looked over by reflex, only to meet Wen Xiuyun’s puzzled gaze.
Wen Xiuyun wasn’t puzzled by Pei Yisheng; he was puzzled as to how he, while jogging normally, had managed to collide with a walking student.
Wiping the sweat from his forehead with a towel, Wen Xiuyun stood upright. He looked at the boy who seemed to have been sent flying a meter away by the impact. Hearing the other person still groaning in pain, Wen Xiuyun felt his ears were being assaulted.
He called out to the retreating Pei Yisheng, “Yisheng, help me check on this student. If we need to go to the infirmary, it might be inconvenient for me alone.”
Pei Yisheng pointed at himself. Me?
Please, I just want to be a bystander! Don’t drag me into your storm!
Pei Yisheng shuffled over reluctantly. “I’m sorry, I might not be able to help. I have an assignment I haven’t finished; it’s due this afternoon.”
Wen Xiuyun smiled calmly. “We’re in the same major. Which teacher’s class? What assignment? I’ll help you write it. It’s fine.”
Pei Yisheng gave a dry laugh. He didn’t actually have an assignment; if he did, he’d already finished it. Seeing that he couldn’t refuse, he quickly changed the subject. He looked at Fang Xin, who was still sitting on the ground clutching his arm, and squatted down with concern. “Classmate, are you okay? Where are you hurt? We’ll take you to the school hospital.”
Fang Xin didn’t think Pei Yisheng was being friendly; he thought he was just being dismissive!
He had been “knocked flying” by a runner and fell to the ground; of course, everything hurt! Especially his elbow and his palm they were scraped raw. Such a large area of injury, and he didn’t know when it would heal. Did Pei Yisheng really think two breezy sentences could soothe his anger? Impossible!
He looked up angrily at the culprit, only to be hit full force by the culprit’s face.
Wen Xiuyun’s handsomeness was different from Qin Zhou’s. He was refined, gentle like a light breeze. Looking down at him now with a face full of concern, he instantly sent Fang Xin’s heart into a flutter.
He stammered, “It… it’s nothing major. I just hit my elbow on the ground. It hurts a lot.”
As he spoke, Fang Xin struggled to stand up. Pei Yisheng tried to give him a hand, but somehow, he lost his own balance instead. Just as he was about to fall backward, he flailed his hands to maintain balance, only for Fang Xin to “skilfully” dodge him a second before impact.
Wen Xiuyun saw everything clearly. He narrowed his eyes slightly and took a step forward, standing exactly where Pei Yisheng was about to land. He firmly caught Pei Yisheng, letting him sit gently against his legs.
His back was leaning against Wen Xiuyun’s leg.
Pei Yisheng let out a surprised “Ah,” tilted his head back, eyes sparkling as he flashed a bright smile. “Thank you!”
“You’re welcome. It wouldn’t do to have one injured person turn into two; that would be my sin.” Wen Xiuyun smiled gently, but when he looked up at Fang Xin, although the smile remained, the warmth was gone.
“Classmate, let’s go. I’ll take you to the hospital to check it out.”
Pei Yisheng stood up. “I feel like I’d just be in the way if I went, so I won’t join you.”
Wen Xiuyun didn’t force it this time, but his car was parked further ahead and would take a moment to retrieve. “Then stay here and keep our classmate company for a bit while I go get the car.”
Fang Xin suddenly whispered, “My name is Fang Xin.”
“Student Fang Xin, please be patient for a moment,” Wen Xiuyun replied smoothly.
Pei Yisheng felt that waiting with someone wasn’t difficult, so he agreed.
Once it was just him and Fang Xin, the atmosphere became awkwardly dry. Pei Yisheng didn’t know what to say to the “Protagonist Shou,” fearing he might accidentally influence the plot, so he took out his phone to scroll.
Fang Xin looked at Pei Yisheng, feeling a twinge of regret that he had dodged just now. If he hadn’t dodged, that man wouldn’t have caught this person.
He stared at Pei Yisheng. His skin was so white, his eyes large with thin, beautifully shaped lids. His nose and mouth were perfect, and he was taller than him. Even in ordinary clothes, his temperament stood out.
And he seemed very close to that man just now.
Fang Xin suddenly felt the urge to speak. “Classmate, my name is Fang Xin, from the School of Liberal Arts. I didn’t react quickly enough just now and almost made you get hurt. I’m sorry.”
Pei Yisheng tucked his phone away as soon as Fang Xin started speaking. Hearing this, he waved it off. “It’s not a big deal, and I’m not hurt. Don’t worry about it. My name is Pei Yisheng, I’m in Finance.”
“Was that guy just now your senior? I heard him say he could help you…” Fang Xin trailed off with an expression that suggested he’d overheard a secret.
Pei Yisheng felt a bit uncomfortable. If Su Yiyi were here, she would have pointed it out instantly: Fang Xin was clearly acting like a “Green Tea” white lotus.
However, the logic wasn’t entirely wrong having Wen Xiuyun as a “senior” was better than anything else. He explained with a smile, “Yeah, but we were just joking. The teacher’s assignments are quite simple; it hasn’t come to the point of needing outside help yet.”
Fang Xin felt a bit disappointed. It wasn’t something he could use against him? He wanted to ask more, but Wen Xiuyun had already driven up.
The man was low-key, and so was his car. At least, to Fang Xin, it just looked like a Volkswagen; he didn’t realize he was looking at the “ancestor” of Volkswagens (a high-end model).
Fang Xin felt a hidden sense of disappointment, but he quickly perked up, got into the car, and started chatting with Wen Xiuyun.
Wen Xiuyun, however, was only concerned with one question: how exactly had he managed to hit Fang Xin? Unfortunately, even Fang Xin wasn’t clear on it, so he could only chalk it up to an accident.
At lunch, Pei Yisheng met Su Yiyi. As soon as they sat down, she spoke with hidden excitement. “Sheng Sheng, you’ve got an absolute ‘life-shot’ (stunning photo)!”
Pei Yisheng was confused. Su Yiyi wasn’t one to keep secrets; she sent the photo to him while her mouth rattled on.
“I was browsing the forum and saw a post trending at the top. I clicked in, and I found this!”
The photo loaded on Pei Yisheng’s phone. It was the moment he was sitting against Wen Xiuyun’s legs, looking up at him.
Even though it was taken from a distance, the phone’s pixels were high. Anyone who knew him would recognize him. He was incredibly relieved that in this beautiful, filtered image, only his jawline and the bridge of his nose were crystal clear.
“Who on earth is this Fang Xin? How does he manage to run into Qin Zhou and Wen Xiuyun so easily and have all these interactions?”
Although Su Yiyi was puzzled, she stood firmly by her friend. “But Sheng Sheng, don’t worry, he can’t beat you. Everyone in the thread is saying he’s ‘a toad trying to eat swan meat’ (aiming way out of his league).”
Pei Yisheng gave a couple of dry laughs. “Dreams are necessary, just in case.”
He truly hoped Fang Xin would pull through and quickly spark some flames with the Protagonist Gongs. He really felt he was in a dangerous position now!
Fortunately, nothing strange happened for the rest of the week. Pei Yisheng breathed a sigh of relief, packed his small bag, and went to the coast for his “stand-in” photography job.
This job had been introduced by a senior from high school. Originally, he was just a model for her personally, but after learning he needed money, she recommended him as a body double/stand-in. He would pose for shots of his back or arms. Aside from some physical strain in specific scenes, the money was relatively easy to earn.
Pei Yisheng cherished the job and had a very positive work attitude.
By the shore under a sunshade, the senior was discussing the makeup with the staff. Seeing him arrive, she handed him the outfit.
It was a thick, palace-style costume. Pei Yisheng put it on without a word.
He followed directions and shot until sunset. His clothes were soaked with sweat, dried, and soaked again several times over. However, seeing the payment enter his account, he finally broke into a happy smile.
“Sheng Sheng, have you really considered becoming a celebrity? You’re actually very photogenic.”
Pei Yisheng shook his head. “I don’t know how, and I’m not used to facing the camera directly.”
The senior sighed in regret. “Alright, I respect that.”
Pei Yisheng carried his bag back toward the school. The bus stopped near the entrance of the snack street by the campus gate. Smelling the waves of fragrance, Pei Yisheng couldn’t help but wander over. While waiting for a Guokui (crispy flatbread), he saw Fang Xin walking by, chatting and laughing with a very tall guy.
