- Chapter 4 - He Should Look Even Better in Bed...
“Qin Zhou is way too brutal!”
That was Pei Yisheng’s first reaction. He let go of his bite, and simultaneously felt the strength of Qin Zhou’s hand covering his mouth loosen.
Now that he knew it was Qin Zhou, Pei Yisheng wasn’t quite as panicked. He just didn’t know what Qin Zhou was doing here; he wondered if he had accidentally intruded upon some kind of “scene.”
Pei Yisheng’s thoughts drifted wildly, his eyes darting back and forth. Qin Zhou almost wanted to laugh the kid had a decent sense of vigilance when he was first snatched, but now he looked like a total “white-sweet-silly” (innocent klutz) having a brain fart.
Qin Zhou lowered his voice and said, “Don’t make a sound. I’ll let you go in a bit.”
After saying that, Qin Zhou pushed aside the thick vegetation and peered behind the shrubbery.
Only then did Pei Yisheng realize there was someone else beside Qin Zhou. It was the same person who had helped Fang Xin out of a jam in the cafeteria earlier. He was looking at Pei with a beaming smile. Although he didn’t speak and only nodded, Pei Yisheng inexplicably felt that the other person harbored ill intentions, and he instinctively hid behind Qin Zhou.
Lin Jiayu’s eyes widened slightly; he felt like his heart was breaking. What’s going on? I’m the one smiling is my friendliness really no match for a “bandit-style” person like Qin Zhou?!
Fortunately, he didn’t have much time to grieve. Qin Zhou suddenly lunged out, throwing a punch squarely into a dark figure’s face. Cries of “Ouch! Ow!” rose and fell in pitch. Four or five people swarmed out from the edge of the woods, surrounding Qin Zhou to fight back. In the chaos, a petite figure ran out; by the thin moonlight, Pei Yisheng could see the tear stains on her face.
Qin Zhou was still throwing punches and kicks. None of the people there were his match. Pei Yisheng even heard the opposing side shouting out their family names and backgrounds, trying to intimidate him. But who was Qin Zhou? Even if he beat this group into permanent disability today, he had the power to cover it up.
Lin Jiayu also hung around the edges to land a few hits, following the girl out after she escaped. He looked at the weeping girl helplessly, then turned to Pei Yisheng as if seeking help.
Actually, even without him saying anything, Pei Yisheng had intended to comfort her.
The girl’s emotions were too volatile; if she wasn’t allowed to vent this terror, she would suffer for a long time afterward, and it might leave a lasting trauma. The two of them stayed by the girl’s side, waiting for Qin Zhou to return victorious. A boy who had been beaten until his face looked like a pig’s head came stumbling over, shoved from behind until he knelt directly in front of the girl.
“I’m sorry, I was wrong! I shouldn’t have had such evil intentions. Please be magnanimous; seeing as you weren’t actually hurt, please forgive me! I’ll never do it again!”
Qin Zhou made a feint as if to kick him, and the guy shivered, blabbering, “I’ll pay you for mental distress! Really! I’ll never trouble you again, I swear! Qin-ge can supervise me! If I ever get blinded by greed again, may I die a horrible death, boo-hoo-hoo-wahhh—”
The girl’s panic gradually subsided. Listening to the other’s painful and helpless wailing, she almost wanted to laugh. However, she knew deeply that the person she should thank most today was Qin Zhou. If not for him and his friends, who knew what would have happened? The girl bowed, then decisively accepted the “mental distress” compensation.
“The note is written: this is proof of your attempted crime today. If anything happens to me in the future, society and the law will not let you go!”
“Thank you all so much.”
Qin Zhou: “No need, it was just a coincidence.”
Lin Jiayu jumped out with a gentle and kind demeanor. “It really was a coincidence. We heard this group plotting while we were eating. We thought it was just big talk, but who knew they’d actually dare to do it? We’ll report this to the school; streetlights will be installed here soon. Don’t be afraid—you did nothing wrong.”
Pei Yisheng nodded along from the side. The girl calmed down significantly and turned to leave. This left Cao Qing and his group of lackeys, all beaten into a mess, shivering and clutching their heads, not daring to look at Qin Zhou’s face.
Cao Qing couldn’t stand the heavy, oppressive atmosphere and began to confess proactively. To Pei Yisheng, it sounded like a criminal record attempted version. Qin Zhou didn’t care for his guarantees. “Think what you want. If I ever hear so much as a whisper of trouble from you in the future, you know who I am.”
Cao Qing nodded frantically. Qin Zhou was a living Yama God of Death he wouldn’t dare provoke him for the life of him.
After the Storm
Having finished the cleanup, Qin Zhou prepared to leave. He looked at Pei Yisheng, his impression of this “delicate roommate” shifting slightly.
When the Pei family collapsed, everyone had heard something about it. Pei Yisheng used to be one of those “other people’s children” excellent, sensible, and bound to be a great hand at inheriting the family business. Who knew the Pei family would suddenly go bankrupt? The fact that Pei Yisheng could still study in A-City was a surprise to many in their circle.
It is easy to go from poverty to luxury, but difficult to return to poverty from luxury. After seeing the view from the top and falling back into an ordinary life, not everyone could handle it. Yet, Pei Yisheng was doing just fine.
“I scared you a bit today, my apologies. But the situation was urgent. You bit me too, so let’s call it even.” Qin Zhou raised his hand to show him.
Only then did Pei Yisheng notice how hard he had bitten in his panic. Qin Zhou had only suffered some scrapes on his knuckles from fighting, but the bite mark was actually bleeding. It might even leave a scar. What a mess.
He waved his hand. “I get it, I get it. To catch a thief, you need the loot. I didn’t mean to bite you that hard. Do you need to go to the hospital? I’ll reimburse you.”
A light chuckle drifted through the air.
Pei Yisheng was too nervous to tell who had laughed. Qin Zhou’s voice softened slightly. “No need. We’re leaving. You should take a different path back.”
Lin Jiayu walked behind Qin Zhou and waved at him. “Bye-bye!”
Pei Yisheng’s head suddenly buzzed. He pulled out his phone and saw a barrage of messages from Su Yiyi. If he responded even a second later, Su Yiyi was going to charge out of the library.
“Coming, coming! Something came up, I’ll be there soon! I promise!”
Ten minutes later, Pei Yisheng rushed into the library. Su Yiyi stood by the elevator with his arms crossed, looking like he was catching a cheating husband. As soon as Pei stepped out, Su started sniffing him. “What’s that smell on you? Which stinky man was it?!”
“Good Yiyi, keep it down! Is this something to be proud of?” Pei Yisheng was finally catching on to Su Yiyi’s banter. He didn’t mention the incident in the woods, instead picking out the cafeteria gossip Su Yiyi loved though he tweaked the details slightly to make Su Yiyi think Qin Zhou actually liked Fang Xin.
“Is that so? But the forums are saying Qin Zhou doesn’t like him.” While waiting in the library, Su Yiyi didn’t have the habit of studying secretly; he was quite frank about scrolling through “Little Red Book” and various gossip forums. He had already seen tonight’s latest news.

He had even contributed a comment.
Pei Yisheng thought: I knew there are no secrets when it comes to the Protagonist’s group.
“But this is already very special,” Pei argued. “Qin Zhou never used to tease people before; he was always about cold rejections.”
Su Yiyi looked at Pei Yisheng as if seeing him for the first time. “I didn’t think a guy with big eyes like yours would be so good at ‘shipping’ couples. If I weren’t sure you didn’t know Fang Xin, I’d think you were his wingman. You found such a tricky angle.”
“You have to tell me when you fall in love in the future. Otherwise, I’m worried you’ll be swindled out of your pants.”
“Being a ‘love-brain’ should be listed as a critical illness in insurance, do you know that?!”
Pei Yisheng: “Huh? I’m not, I didn’t, don’t talk nonsense!”
Su Yiyi shook his head mysteriously and returned to the study room without a word. Left with no way to argue, Pei Yisheng went to study with a heart full of mild indignation.
Back at the Dorm
While they enjoyed their quiet time, Qin Zhou was being annoyed by Lin Jiayu to the point of wanting another fight.
“I told you, he’s just a roommate I’ve seen once. What else do you want to know?”
Qin Zhou didn’t understand why Lin Jiayu had suddenly become possessed, hounding him with questions about Pei Yisheng.
Lin Jiayu had grown up with him; he knew exactly what kind of person Qin Zhou was. Qin Zhou was acting annoyed, but he wasn’t actually bothered. “I just think it’s a pity. If the Pei family hadn’t gone bankrupt, Pei Yisheng would be a pretty fun guy to know. We might have even sat down together for business collaborations in the future.”
“Who says it won’t work out in the future?” Qin Zhou suddenly imagined Pei Yisheng in a suit and tie. If those eyes were covered, he’d look quite elite; but once those eyes were revealed, it would look like a child playing house.
He suddenly felt a flicker of curiosity about how the Pei family had gone bankrupt.
Lin Jiayu made a silent face behind his back. See? Not annoyed at all. His gaze landed on Qin Zhou’s hand. “You really aren’t going to the hospital? I think it’s pretty deep. You shouldn’t let it touch water for a few days.”
“Just some disinfectant and a random bandage will do.” Fighting was daily routine for Qin Zhou; this bite wasn’t even as bad as his usual injuries. It was nothing.
Still… Pei Yisheng’s teeth were quite neat.
They studied until the library closed before Pei Yisheng and Su Yiyi returned together. When they pushed open the door, the dorm lights were actually on.
Song Wen greeted Pei Yisheng with a beaming smile. “Shengsheng, why are you back so late? The little cake is almost losing its beauty.”
With one hand he hung up a phone call, and with the other, he held up a small cake.
Pei Yisheng put his books down. “I was at the library. Thanks for the cake, but it’s a bit late. I’ll put it in the fridge and eat it tomorrow.”
“Just have a taste. It’s the new seasonal item from the most popular cake shop right now; the queue was three hours long.” Song Wen’s peach blossom eyes were full of mirth. “I specifically waited for you to come back so we could eat it together.”
Pei Yisheng knew full well that this thing was likely bought by one of Song Wen’s many admirers who stood in line for him. He looked at it; it wasn’t big. If they shared it, it would only be three or five bites. He might as well eat it for the sake of peace.
“Okay, wait for me to wash my hands.”
Song Wen’s voice was melodic. “Okay~”
He propped his chin on his hand, admiring Pei Yisheng’s figure as he moved about. Although the clothes were baggy and hid the waistline beneath the fabric, Song Wen knew that Pei Yisheng was beautiful in every way.
He should look even better in bed.
He wondered when he’d finally get a taste. If it weren’t for Wen Xiuyun watching like a hawk, and the fact that he didn’t want this to be a one-time thing, Pei Yisheng wouldn’t still be dangling in front of him like a piece of “Tang Monk meat” a prize everyone wants to devour.
Pei Yisheng finished tidying up and brought his own coffee cup, saucer, and spoon, looking happy to share the cake.
“There are disposable ones here, why bother with the hassle?” Song Wen said, though he was pleased to see Pei Yisheng using his gift to plate the cake. He thought the saucer wasn’t good enough; he’d bring a few from home another day.
Pei Yisheng took Song Wen’s words with a grain of salt and remained cautious. If he accidentally ate something he shouldn’t, he’d have nowhere to cry.
Pei Yisheng ate carefully, leaving Song Wen with no opening to wipe cream off his face as he had planned. He decided to change his strategy.
“Shengsheng, is there something on me? I can’t see it. Can you help me wipe it off?”
