Chapter 8: My Person Caught a Cold, How Will You Settle This?
Chen Xie slammed a fist into Zhong Yue’s face, not holding back an ounce of strength. With this single punch, his knuckles throbbed with intense pain, but it also helped him sober up significantly.
Zhong Yue hadn’t brought bodyguards today; usually lazy and gluttonous, he was nothing but a useless glutton. After a string of punches from Chen Xie, his head was spinning. Chen Xie grabbed him by the collar and kicked him hard in the abdomen. “Where is A-Yue?”
Blood streamed from Zhong Yue’s nose, and his head ached fiercely. He spat out some bloody foam and pointed a finger toward a certain direction.
Chen Xie ran quickly toward the cabins in the deepest part of the cruise ship. He kicked open a cabin door and saw A-Yue being pinned down by President Wang, her outer clothes stripped away.
Chen Xie yanked President Wang away. Since he had already resorted to violence tonight, one more punch didn’t matter. He clenched his fist and slammed it down heavily once more.
Although President Wang took a punch, he just felt the blood at the corner of his lip and didn’t say much. There were many people on the cruise ship, and since he was the one in the wrong in this matter, making a scene wouldn’t benefit him.
He let Chen Xie take A-Yue away.
A-Yue was crying, repeatedly rubbing her arms. Chen Xie covered her shoulders with his jacket and brought her to the deck with the most guests. A-Yue kept her head down, sitting in a corner.
The scenery of Victoria Harbour was opulent and dazzling amidst the neon lights, and no one would notice A-Yue. Chen Xie stood up, using his body to shield the trembling and weeping A-Yue.
Chen Xie checked their position and told the driver, Old Lin, to wait at the next pier to pick up A-Yue. Old Lin didn’t know what had happened, but he immediately drove toward the pier.
Chen Xie’s finger hovered over Shen Changting’s phone number; he paused for a few seconds but didn’t dial. He put his phone back in his pocket and lit a cigarette inside the cabin.
White mist drifted up, and red streaks climbed into the whites of Chen Xie’s eyes.
Tonight, he had hit President Wang; the path toward the Suzhou Technology Park was now blocked.
He had also hit Zhong Yue; there was no need to even try to survive in Shenzhen or Hong Kong anymore—no one would help him again.
Chen Xie prided himself on being a calm person, but tonight he had made mistake after mistake, and he had even shamed the old fox. He knew that Shen Changting would never cause a scene with the Zhong family for his sake, and he didn’t have the face to seek Shen Changting out again.
Chen Xie knew even more clearly that his impulsiveness had sent Guangqi Technology directly to its grave.
After smoking a cigarette to calm down, Chen Xie would begin to review the situation and weigh the pros and cons; this was the nature of an entrepreneur. To say he didn’t regret it would be a lie, but if it happened again, Chen Xie would still do the same thing.
In life and business, Chen Xie had one principle: his enterprise would never be supported by clinging to the skirts of a woman.
A-Yue hadn’t even been working for him for a week. Any other boss might have already sent the secretary out to please other big bosses, and might even have persuaded her to keep quiet after the fact to maintain peace. But Chen Xie couldn’t do such a thing.
When the cruise ship neared the next pier, A-Yue regained her composure. She lightly pulled on Chen Xie’s sleeve. Chen Xie turned around. “I’ll see you off.”
Before Chen Xie could see A-Yue off the ship, Zhong Yue, who had also recovered, stood in front of Chen Xie with a swarm of people blocking the way. Zhong Yue’s face looked pathetic right now; he absolutely couldn’t lose face like this, so naturally, he wouldn’t let Chen Xie off easily.
In Hong Kong, Zhong Yue was a famous profligate son. Relying on the fact that the elder of his family doted on him, he frequently used power to suppress others. Everyone was used to seeing such scenes.
Moreover, since the Second Young Master Zhong’s face was bruised, this matter likely wouldn’t be settled easily.
Chen Xie: “Let her go.”
Zhong Yue sneered, not intending to let A-Yue go.
Chen Xie scoffed. “What? Is Mr. Zhong even going to involve himself with a woman?”
Zhong Yue waved his hand, signaling his people to let A-Yue leave.
A-Yue refused to go, gripping Chen Xie’s arm tightly. Chen Xie pushed her away. “Get off the ship first. I’ve already had the driver meet you at the pier.”
A-Yue left hesitatingly, looking back with every step. As soon as she stepped onto the pier, she immediately called the police.
Just as A-Yue met up with Old Lin, the sound of a massive splash came from the distance. A thin black shadow jumped into the sea in the darkness!
The Zhong Family.
“Mr. Shen, checkmate again!”
The elder Mr. Zhong lost another round under the observation of other guests. He sighed repeatedly, “Chairman Shen, your chess skills really are superb!”
Shen Changting said modestly, “I was just lucky to win this time.”
Duan Suizhou walked to Shen Changting’s side with a glass of champagne, his face grim as he whispered something. Shen Changting’s gaze darkened. He pushed away the chess set in front of him. “Elder Zhong, would you do me the honor of a game of Texas Hold’em?”
The smile on the elder Mr. Zhong’s lips froze. When he was young, he had been a gambler and nearly lost the entire family fortune; his father had cut off one of his fingers as a lesson. The word “gamble” was a forbidden word for the entire Zhong family.
Shen Changting had grown up in Hong Kong. Although his relationship with the younger generation of the Zhong family was average, he wouldn’t intentionally rub salt in the old man’s wounds.
For Shen Changting to mention this, there was only one possibility: the Zhong family had offended Shen Changting.
Everything had clearly been fine just a moment ago; how had they suddenly offended Shen Changting?
Elder Zhong’s smile was stiff. He raised his hand to call over a confidant and gave a few instructions, after which the confidant hurried out.
Shen Changting bit a cigarette between his lips. Duan Suizhou lit it for him. He slowly exhaled a puff of smoke, his eyes cold. He casually pushed all his chips forward, and even took off his wristwatch and signet ring, tossing them into the betting pool.
Shen Changting: “A little something to sweeten the pot.”
The surrounding atmosphere went silent instantly. Who would dare take the sweetener offered by Shen Changting?
If it were just a watch, fine, but there was a signet ring.
This was a signet ring engraved with the Shen family crest.
Who would dare take it?
Fine beads of sweat broke out on Elder Zhong’s forehead. He smiled and had someone bring down a collector-grade porcelain vase from upstairs.
The people around looked at each other; no one dared to sit at the table.
Duan Suizhou pulled out a deck of cards. “Elder Zhong, Mr. Shen, if there’s no problem, I’ll deal the cards.”
Duan Suizhou dealt the cards. Shen Changting was on the right; Shen Changting was the dealer. As soon as Elder Zhong saw the first round of community cards, he wanted to fold, but he repeatedly scrutinized Shen Changting’s expression, furrowed his brow, and followed into the second round of dealing.
The confidant returned in a hurry and whispered into Elder Zhong’s ear. Elder Zhong’s pupils trembled. He had the servants go upstairs to bring down a painting by an old master calligrapher.
Elder Zhong said with a compensatory smile, “Chairman Shen, this grandson of mine doesn’t know the ways of the world. Please be generous! I will tell him to behave properly immediately.”
Shen Changting let out a soft laugh. “My person is also a little kid. The water at the pier is icy; what if he catches a cold?”
