Chapter 2: Only When I Am Satisfied Can You Make Demands
Chen Xie looked at Shen Changting’s legs and pressed his lips thin.
Shen Changting: “It’s no hindrance.”
Shen Changting’s legs had been disabled by an injury; they hadn’t completely lost their function. He could walk, but with great difficulty. The Shen family were Hong Kong royalty, and the concept of “decorum” was upheld throughout their lives. Thus, whenever Shen Changting went out, he always used a wheelchair.
Chen Xie sat on Shen Changting’s lap, his movements somewhat stiff and unpracticed.
Shen Changting pinched his chin and asked, “Having fun?”
Shen Changting was referring to the matter with “Wen Li.”
Chen Xie felt extremely guilty. “I thought Teacher would like it…”
Shen Changting’s eyes darkened. “Nonsense.”
Shen Changting looked at the auction items on the screen, his knuckles pressing against Chen Xie’s thigh.
Chen Xie had no intention of continuing this topic; he didn’t have much time. In twenty minutes, Shen Changting would be leaving.
But fortunately, he had added a great deal of the drug, and it took effect quickly.
Chen Xie, who moments ago felt he had lost all face, was now burning up all over, his body turning soft. He realized he couldn’t go on like this. Since he was already here, even if he had to feed himself to the tiger, he would accept it.
He couldn’t very well sacrifice himself for nothing, in a daze without even making a demand.
“Teacher Shen…” Chen Xie grabbed Shen Changting’s fingers.
Shen Changting’s fingers were long, his pads full. Because he had held a calligraphy brush for years, the callus on his ring finger was thick and felt somewhat rough to the touch.
Chen Xie kissed Shen Changting’s hand, a clumsy attempt at ingratiating himself.
Shen Changting let out a soft chuckle, his lips pressing down to force his tongue inside. “Chen Xie, this isn’t enough sincerity.”
Shen Changting said it wasn’t enough sincerity.
Chen Xie’s face flushed. “Teacher…”
He placed Shen Changting’s hand on the belt at his waist, overstepping as he wrapped his arms around Shen Changting’s neck, looking up to kiss him. “Help Guangqi.”
Shen Changting did not grant him a look.
He didn’t refuse, nor did he accept.
It meant: it was still not enough.
Chen Xie took the initiative to unbuckle the belt. The metallic clink was exceptionally clear. His skin turned red and his body temperature climbed; he knew all too well how to please Shen Changting.
Chen Xie’s slender, pale neck tensed straight, a faint light shimmering on his collarbones. He let out a muffled groan, his entire reaction being beautiful to the extreme.
Shen Changting smiled, his interest piqued, as he admired Chen Xie’s raw and strained expression.
Shen Changting let out a soft laugh: “Three million.”
Chen Xie knew the old fox was satisfied, so he wanted to raise the matter of Guangqi again. He hinted, “Teacher Shen…”
Chen Xie’s voice was trembling. It was only when he raised his eyes that he noticed Shen Changting was still wearing the communication earpiece for the auction. There was a proxy bidder hired by Shen Changting in the auction hall; tonight, Shen Changting was here to buy a birthday gift for the elder Mr. Shen.
The image on the screen was a famous painting by a master—the elder Mr. Shen’s favorite.
Chen Xie: “…”
He took a sharp breath. This meant that every single word he had just said had been heard by someone else.
Chen Xie’s entire body went stiff, a sense of shame making him turn his face away.
“I’ll take this painting.” Shen Changting’s voice was resonant and powerful. He looked down at the way Chen Xie was clutching his wrist tightly, his eyes filled with displeasure.
Chen Xie let go and reached up to remove Shen Changting’s earpiece, but his hand was caught a step faster. Shen Changting took the opportunity to check the watch on his wrist. “Fifteen minutes left.”
“Only when I am satisfied can you make demands.”
This was the consistent rule between them.
Fifteen minutes later.
Shen Changting used a silk handkerchief to wipe his hands. The person in his arms was curled up, his breathing erratic. Tears had been teased out of the corners of his eyes, sliding down his face. He clutched the communication earpiece tightly; it was damaged and had long since lost its function.
Shen Changting mercilessly stuffed the handkerchief into Chen Xie’s waist.
He did not give Chen Xie the chance to state his conditions.
It meant: he was not satisfied.
Chen Xie struggled to support his body as he got off the wheelchair. He wanted to mention the conditions, but the handkerchief fell to the floor. “Teacher Shen…”
Shen Changting glanced at the red wine on the ebony table, his meaning ambiguous. “It’s much worse than it was two years ago.”
Chen Xie had just performed for Shen Changting, and now Shen Changting was saying such things—it was clear he was wiping his mouth after eating his fill and didn’t want to give any benefits.
The old fox!
Chen Xie held back a surge of anger, not daring to flare up.
Last year, Guangqi Technology had been hesitant to invest in precision equipment processing. Within a year, the pace of technological iteration accelerated. Because research and development investment was insufficient, they fell too far behind their competitors. They couldn’t keep up with yield rates or precision, leading to collective price-gouging by clients. The losses were too massive, and now even normal operation was difficult.
Chen Xie had watched his company head toward a dead end with his own eyes; he truly couldn’t remain indifferent.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have come to beg Shen Changting, much less sell himself.
“Teacher Shen…”
Chen Xie’s voice was hoarse. As he spoke, even the corner of his mouth hurt.
At the door, the bodyguard knocked on time. Shen Changting looked up calmly, his cool fingertips rubbing against the corner of Chen Xie’s lip. He asked, “You want to talk business with me?”
Chen Xie nodded, bowing slightly, his eyes wet. “As long as Guangqi Technology can be brought back to life, I am willing to give half of my original shares to Teacher.”
After saying it, Chen Xie realized how ridiculous his words were. Half of Guangqi Technology already belonged to Shen Changting.
“Costs are out of control, technology is lagging, and client risk is concentrated.”
Shen Changting gave his judgment immediately: “Guangqi Technology cannot be revived.”
The collapse of Guangqi Technology was only a matter of time.
Chen Xie rubbed his face against Shen Changting’s hand. “I want to try… Teacher.”
Shen Changting cruelly pulled his hand back and let the bodyguard into VIP Box No. 2. He took a business card from his pocket and pressed his long fingers against it on the table. “This business deal cannot be discussed.”
Anything else could be considered.
Shen Changting tapped the card, and the bodyguard pushed him away.
Chen Xie collapsed onto the soft leather sofa, leaning his whole body back. The clammy dampness in the air climbed up his neck and eyelashes. He took a deep breath and, upon standing up, smashed the wine on the table.
Chen Xie’s gaze lingered on the black business card for what seemed like a full minute. After a while, he stuffed the card into his suit pocket and left VIP Box No. 2.
Chen Xie lit a cigarette, the smoke drifting from his fingertips.
Downstairs, Wen Li was waiting. The weather tonight was very cold with a whistling, chilly wind. Wen Li was dressed thinly and refused to get in the car, pacing back and forth at the auction house entrance while rubbing his arms.
“Boss…” Wen Li saw Chen Xie from a distance and ran over urgently, his nose red from the cold and a pleasing smile on his face. “Boss, my grandma is in the ICU waiting for money to save her life… “Boss, my grandma is in the ICU waiting for money to save her life…””
Wen Li was someone Chen Xie had picked out from a bar.
Being able to climb into Shen Changting’s bed was, for the vast majority of people, a golden opportunity to turn one’s life around overnight. Many people wanted this chance, and so did Wen Li. But the reasons Chen Xie chose Wen Li were:
1. Wen Li’s grandmother needed money for medical treatment.
2. Wen Li looked about forty to fifty percent like Chen Xie.
As for Chen Xie, he had once been Shen Changting’s underground lover for three years.
