- After His Demise, the Demon Lord's Doted Canary Finally Sees the Light
- Chapter 9 - The Blinding of a Shattered Starlight
With new wounds on top of old, Qiu Fuxue was physically and mentally exhausted. He was unconscious for three full days, during which Jiufang Cangze spared no effort to have him treated, finally pulling him back from the brink of death.
His cheeks, which had just begun to look a little plump, became thin again. Qiu Fuxue leaned on the bed, his eyes empty, staring blankly out the window at the Flowing Light River, lost in thought.
Jiufang Cangze walked in and saw this heartbreaking sight.
“It’s a good thing this face wasn’t ruined,” he thought.
He sat on the edge of the bed and pulled the beauty into his arms. His fingers nonchalantly caressed the smooth cheek, pressing down on a beauty mark a few times. Unable to resist the desire in his heart, he leaned in and lightly kissed the thin lips.
Qiu Fuxue didn’t know how to kiss and let the other person have his way, like a bloodless puppet on a string.
After the kiss ended, the spiritual orb felt a little more empty, and a petal of the half-black, half-white lotus quietly withered.
“The Demon Realm is not like the Qiannian Sect. One wrong step here, and your soul will be extinguished.”
Qiu Fuxue slowly blinked his eyes. The heavy shackles were back on his wrists. He probably felt that his current state was even less dignified than having his soul extinguished.
After kneading the fleshy waist a few times, Jiufang Cangze took a glimmering pendant from his pocket and placed it around Qiu Fuxue’s neck.
“This pendant is made from a Jiaoren scale. It will help you heal.”
Hearing the word Jiaoren, his dazed eyes finally showed some life. He lowered his head and gently held the pendant in his palm.
This was the very Jiaoren scale he had so painstakingly sought. It had been delivered to him so simply. It felt as if his previous efforts had all been for nothing.
A faint bitterness arose in his heart. Qiu Fuxue looked up. “The demonic energy on this is no less than yours. How can it help me heal?”
Jiufang Cangze didn’t answer directly. “Don’t you feel that the pain of the demonic energy entering your body is much less than before?”
“…So that’s it.”
When he was fully accustomed to it, his “medicine” would be complete.
At that time, all that awaited him was to have his heart and spiritual orb dug out.
His death was of no consequence, but he didn’t want the demon lord to get the spiritual orb, increase his cultivation greatly, and then go and harm the mortal world.
After a few days of staying quietly in bed, the Jiaoren scale had a remarkable healing effect. Even his old internal injuries were mostly healed.
Still mindful of the transaction, Qiu Fuxue, after he was able to get out of bed and walk freely, took the opportunity of Jiufang Cangze’s absence to drag his shackles to the Flowing Light River and meet the Jiaoren again.
“Is this the scale you mentioned?” Qiu Fuxue took off the pendant and handed it to the Jiaoren.
Receiving the scale, which had been made into an exquisite ornament, a hint of disgust flashed in the Jiaoren’s eyes, and his voice was filled with a sense of gritting teeth. “Yes, it is.”
Qiu Fuxue gave a bleak smile. They were all just playthings of Jiufang Cangze.
“I found the item for you. You should now fulfill your promise and get me out of here.”
The Jiaoren looked at the pale face, which was illuminated by the light, and thought that this poor little beauty must have been tormented by the Demon Lord.
He touched the shackles that bound the slender wrists and whispered a spell. However, what was unexpected was that the spell for breaking the shackles was useless and was instead repelled.
“Tch! How stingy!”
Jiufang Cangze’s possessiveness was very strong, no matter what it was for.
Qiu Fuxue hadn’t expected the Jiaoren to be able to open the shackles anyway. “It’s fine. As long as you take me back to the Qiannian Sect, I’ll find a way to deal with it.”
The fine string threaded through the scale was pulled off. A small, round water bubble suddenly emerged from the river, encasing it. The bubble, carrying the glimmering scale, floated onto the Jiaoren’s tail.
“Come with me.” With most of his lost magical power instantly restored, the Jiaoren admired his recovered tail in satisfaction and extended his hands to Qiu Fuxue.
For some reason, Qiu Fuxue felt a bad premonition in his heart.
He hesitated slightly, looked back at the sleeping chamber that had imprisoned him, and then resolutely took the hands offered to him.
Even a death without a burial place was better than being trapped here forever.
With a “whoosh,” the Jiaoren with silver hair and blue eyes, holding the shackled person in his hands, flicked his tail and dove into the river.
The moment he hit the water, Qiu Fuxue subconsciously held his breath and nervously clasped his hands together.
Feeling his fear, the Jiaoren’s cool thumb gently rubbed the back of his hand. “Relax, little beauty. You can open your eyes wide.”
The sounds underwater were muffled, but Qiu Fuxue still heard him. He cautiously opened his eyes to a slit and then found that he could breathe freely underwater.
The Flowing Light River was even more beautiful than it appeared from the outside. It was as if shattered light had merged with the water. Qiu Fuxue stared blankly as streams of broken light passed by, and he couldn’t help but remember the starlit sky he would occasionally glimpse while cultivating on the back mountain of the Qiannian Sect as a child.
These broken lights were like stars that had fallen into the river, and he was now in the midst of a starry sky.
Suddenly, a fish tail, swaying with the water, swept by his eyes. The Jiaoren’s smiling voice came over. “Would you be willing to stay in the Demon Realm for a river?”
Qiu Fuxue came to his senses and shook his head. He tapped on the Jiaoren’s wrist, signaling him to move faster.
The more beautiful a thing was, the more dangerous it was. The shackles around him weighed dozens of pounds. If not for the buoyancy provided by the Jiaoren, he feared he would have already sunk to the bottom of the river and been buried in this underwater starry sky.
The Jiaoren let go of one of his hands and floated with Qiu Fuxue in the water. His palm slowly stroked the other’s cold and beautiful face.
Qiu Fuxue tried to dodge, but he was stuck since he had already entrusted his life to the other’s hands.
The Jiaoren’s eyes were filled with a smile as he looked at those clear and innocent eyes, and greed arose in his heart.
“Beauty, your eyes are truly beautiful.”
“It’s a shame they’ll be mine soon.”
By the time Qiu Fuxue realized something was wrong, it was too late. He felt a needle-like pain in his eyes. He was forced to shut them tightly, and then a dizzying sensation came over him. The hand that was holding him suddenly let go. The weight of the shackles dragged him down to the bottom of the river, and his surroundings plunged into darkness.
He had failed.
The Nine Evils… as expected, were not to be trusted so easily…
Before he completely lost consciousness, he vaguely heard the sound of the tide receding.
