- After His Demise, the Demon Lord's Doted Canary Finally Sees the Light
- Chapter 7 - The Scale Exchange
The moment the spiritual orb with the blooming white lotus became empty, the shocking wounds healed at a speed visible to the naked eye.
After their lips parted, Qiu Fuxue’s mind was blank. It took him a while to recover. Jiufang Cangze had just absorbed a trace of his spiritual energy to heal his wounds.
But why would his spiritual energy be effective on a demon?
“You probably still don’t understand the power of a Pure Spiritual Body,” Jiufang Cangze seemed to read his mind.
“If I weren’t of some use, I wouldn’t have survived until now.”
Whether it was intentional or not, his lack of struggle and obedient demeanor pleased Jiufang Cangze immensely, who immediately snapped the heavy shackles and granted him temporary freedom.
Qiu Fuxue was carried back to the sleeping chamber. All the way, his eyes were filled with the feeling of aiding and abetting evil.
The once Fuxue Immortal Lord who had slain countless demons was now using his own body to heal a demon lord. Although it was not of his own free will, it had already happened.
Late at night, while Jiufang Cangze was asleep, Qiu Fuxue got up to check the flow of his spiritual orb. As expected, the small space that nourished the white lotus had been half-occupied by demonic energy.
No wonder it could help heal a demon. He sighed silently, thinking that if this continued, the white lotus would turn into a black one.
In the following days, Jiufang Cangze was excessively kind to Qiu Fuxue. Not only did he stop locking him with iron shackles, but he also broadened his range of movement. As long as he didn’t cause trouble, he could move freely throughout the entire demon palace.
Not causing trouble was impossible.
Qiu Fuxue had been obedient for many days, finally earning Jiufang Cangze’s relaxed vigilance. The first thing he did was to go to the Flowing Light River to look for the Jiaoren from the other day.
He occasionally overheard maids talking and learned that the Nine Evils had not appeared for a long time. The appearance of the Jiaoren this time had caused quite a stir. He figured the wounds on Jiufang Cangze’s body were likely left from a fight with the Jiaoren.
Without the idle and meddlesome Lun Ling, Qiu Fuxue squatted by the river. He extended his fair, slender fingers into the water, gently stirring it.
Jiaoren were extremely sensitive to scent. In less than a quarter of an hour, the beautiful fish tail appeared and disappeared in the river.
The mesmerizing creature with silver hair and blue eyes broke through the water with a splash, revealing a handsome smile to the person on the bank. “We meet again, little beauty.”
One was a fugitive and the other a prisoner; neither was a righteous person. Qiu Fuxue put his index finger to his lips, signaling him to be quiet, and turned his head to look around to see if anyone had noticed them.
However, the Jiaoren was unconcerned. “Don’t worry, they can’t see me.”
The Nine Evils had some real abilities, and Qiu Fuxue, after observing the sparkling scales in the sunlight, chose to believe him.
“Do you really have a way to get me out of the Demon Realm?”
“Of course.” The Jiaoren swam back and forth in the river, then propped himself up on the bank, admiring him. “You look much better, little beauty. The Demon Lord didn’t trouble you?”
Qiu Fuxue shook his head. “Although you are one of the Nine Evils, I have no way out of this imprisonment. If you can truly save me, besides the reward I promised before, the Qiannian Sect and I will surely give you a good name in the mortal world.”
Upon hearing this, the Jiaoren couldn’t help but laugh, mocking his naivete. “We demons aren’t righteous gentlemen. What good is a good reputation? You just have to remember what you promised me before: whatever the Demon Lord got, I want the same.”
What the Demon Lord got… Jiufang Cangze had only kissed him.
Qiu Fuxue was completely clueless about matters of love and thought that a kiss wouldn’t cost him a piece of flesh. So he readily agreed. “It’s a deal.”
The Jiaoren had raised the stakes, from an initial promise of an offering to wanting an equal share with Jiufang Cangze, but he didn’t expect the other party to agree so quickly.
The Jiaoren had no idea that the usually unrestrained demon lord, after having such a beauty in his arms for so long, had only gotten a single kiss.
Both sides, each with their own intentions, verbally agreed on this not-so-righteous transaction.
“The Demon Lord pulled out my scales. Although he didn’t benefit much, it caused me to lose most of my magical power.”
The Jiaoren said this, then lifted his tail for Qiu Fuxue to see. A patch of scales was indeed missing from the large, beautiful fish tail, exposing the bloody, pale flesh underneath.
“Since you have gained his trust, why not help me steal back my lost scales? When I recover my magic, the possibility of helping you escape will be much greater.”
Qiu Fuxue was simple-minded, but not stupid.
He wasn’t going to make a losing deal.
“He just stopped locking me up. It’s by no means trust. Your request is too much.”
The Jiaoren reached out to stroke Qiu Fuxue’s cheek, but the hand was unhappily avoided. He could only awkwardly retract his hand, letting out a dry laugh. “Beauty, with your looks, if you soften your stance and act a little spoiled, I don’t believe the Demon Lord can resist.”
“It’s just stealing a scale. It’s not anything valuable. How about this? I guarantee your safe return to the Qiannian Sect?”
No way.
Every time he got closer to Jiufang Cangze, the danger of his escape plan being exposed increased. Not to mention trying to steal something from him.
“This is still too risky. It would be better to…”
Before he could finish his sentence, the Jiaoren suddenly dove into the water. His movements were so light that not a single ripple was left on the surface, as if he had never been there.
Qiu Fuxue’s heart tightened. He secretly glanced to the side and saw that the meddlesome Lun Ling had followed him again.
Qiu Fuxue quickly lowered his head, pretending that nothing had happened, and childishly splashed the water.
“You seem very interested in this river.” Lun Ling walked up to him and kicked a stone into the river with a ‘plop.’
“I’m in an unfamiliar place. There’s nowhere else to go,” Qiu Fuxue replied vaguely. His face was calm, but inside, he was afraid that Lun Ling had seen what just happened.
Fortunately, Lun Ling was just wandering. After a lot of rambling, Qiu Fuxue couldn’t stand his chattering anymore and found an excuse to escape.
He returned to the sleeping chamber and turned the entire bed upside down, but he couldn’t find the scale the Jiaoren mentioned. Jiufang Cangze probably wouldn’t put something like that on the bed anyway.
The mountain of official documents on the desk was half the size it was a few days ago, so they must have been dealt with. Qiu Fuxue cautiously searched through them, then put the documents back exactly as they were.
The only two places to hide things in the sleeping chamber were the bed and the desk. Since it wasn’t in either, things were getting complicated.
Although Jiufang Cangze allowed him to move freely in the demon palace, his spiritual energy made his movements very conspicuous among the demons.
With a heavy heart, Qiu Fuxue opened the door to go out again, but he accidentally bumped into the “wall” in front of him.
“Where are you going?”
His waist was taken into an embrace. The sudden sensation of being lifted made him instinctively wrap his arms around the other’s neck.
“…It’s too stuffy. I’m just going for a walk.”
Jiufang Cangze held him and sat down, carefully rubbing his ankles where the scabs had just fallen off and new, tender flesh had grown. “This isn’t the first time you’ve gone out today.”
Qiu Fuxue looked down at his bare, dust-covered feet. He only had a few pieces of clothing to wear here and usually walked around barefoot. Fortunately, his range of movement wasn’t large, and his feet were only a little sore.
“I just walked around in front of the palace gates,” Qiu Fuxue explained in a low voice, his body stiff from the stress of lying.
He detested being close to Jiufang Cangze, but he feared the methods of torture the demon lord used. Although he wouldn’t deliberately try to please him, he also didn’t dare to easily anger him.
Jiufang Cangze didn’t pay attention to what he said. His large hand held the dirty feet, carefully wiping off the dust.
Qiu Fuxue was tickled by his touch, and a smile involuntarily appeared on his face as he let out a chuckle.
The Demon Lord seemed to be in a very good mood today. Seeing the man in his arms laugh, his gaze softened. He undid the front of Qiu Fuxue’s clothes and gently nibbled on his beautifully shaped collarbone. “Qingming Palace has a library where many ancient human texts are stored. If you’re bored and have nowhere to go, you can go there to pass the time.”
“Hmm…”
Qiu Fuxue felt a bit strange. His eyebrows were tightly furrowed. He stared at his reddened collarbone for a long time, looking completely confused.
So he was being treated like a dish, to be eaten when the time was right?
He was indeed a savage, blood-drinking demon.
Jiufang Cangze had no idea what Qiu Fuxue’s clueless mind was thinking. He just found the other’s lack of fighting and sword-wielding to be quite endearing.
He patted Qiu Fuxue’s head and put him down, then went back to his desk to deal with the unfinished documents.
Qiu Fuxue was bitten for no reason, but he didn’t come away empty-handed. During their contact just now, he had secretly patted Jiufang Cangze’s body all over but hadn’t found the scale the Jiaoren mentioned.
If it wasn’t hidden in the chamber or on his person, where could it be?
Qiu Fuxue silently looked at the figure still working on the documents. From what he knew, this demon lord had a cruel and ruthless personality. If he had pulled out the Jiaoren’s scale, he would surely put it somewhere obvious to show off.
At that moment, the words “Qingming Palace” appeared in his mind.
Qiu Fuxue remembered the library he had just mentioned and slipped away, using the excuse of wanting to look through ancient texts.
