- Chapter 37 - Heartfelt Regret, Unbearable Affection
A small table was set up in the simple courtyard. Taichu rolled up his sleeves and cooked a delicious meal that satisfied Qiu Fuxue’s craving, as he had barely eaten anything for years.
In their love for food, Qiu Fuxue and Taichu were nearly identical. Li Yun , on the other hand, had little interest. Throughout the meal, he focused on putting food in his senior brother’s bowl.
Looking at the green vegetables on his plate, he couldn’t help but ask, “Primordial Deity, you are not connected to the outside world. Where do you get these fresh ingredients?”
“I grow the vegetables myself,” Taichu said with pride. “As for the meat…”
At that moment, a snow-white immortal deer leisurely walked over. Taichu looked at it meaningfully.
Qiu Fuxue and Li Yun both gasped. Surely, the meat in their bowls wasn’t…
Taichu chuckled. “I used an illusion to create a hunting ground. The immortal deer hunts and brings the meat back.”
A deer that hunts sounded strange, but in this Immortal Realm, it wasn’t so surprising.
Qiu Fuxue, having eaten his fill, put down his chopsticks and admired the beautiful deer. He didn’t hide the affection in his eyes. “This deer seems to be full of spiritual energy.”
Sensing his gaze, the immortal deer twitched its ears, then walked toward the figure lying under a tree.
Jiufang Cangze (九方蒼澤) had been forced to “voluntarily” offer a significant amount of his heart’s blood and was now exhausted. He had refused to eat when Taichu called him, stubbornly sulking under the tree.
The deer went over and nudged his arm, but was irritably pushed away.
This scene was completely observed by Qiu Fuxue. He silently turned his gaze away, suppressing the doubts in his heart.
Li Yun created a room with his illusions for him and his senior brother to rest in. Taichu inspected it and then brought Li Yun out, giving him some pointers on his illusionary arts so that one day he could reach a higher level of mastery.
The immortal deer went to the edge of the lotus pond to rest, leaving only Jiufang Cangze and Qiu Fuxue in the courtyard.
Qiu Fuxue cut a piece of spiritual wood and sat by the door, carefully carving it with a dagger, as if making something.
Jiufang Cangze’s anger had subsided. He changed direction, peeking out from behind the tree to secretly observe the peaceful man.
Qiu Fuxue’s eyes were cast down, his thick, long eyelashes casting a shadow below. In the past, his eyes were too pale, almost detached. Now, with a hint of red, they had an added allure.
Jiufang Cangze rubbed his fingers, feeling that Qiu Fuxue was more beautiful than before.
Qiu Fuxue had long felt the burning gaze, but he chose to ignore it. After going through life and death, he had finally understood that if he didn’t live for himself, no one would ever care about his life.
A wooden sword was slowly taking shape in his hands. Jiufang Cangze’s heart itched, and he couldn’t hold back any longer. He brazenly walked over.
“That old fellow has plenty of famous weapons and swords hidden away. Just go ask for one.”
Qiu Fuxue continued to carve the wooden sword, not even looking up. “A famous sword must choose its master. These weapons have spirits; I can’t wield them in a moment.”
His original sword was Fen Yu (焚玉), but it had been shattered. In the future, he would need to find a suitable weapon, but such things were a matter of fate and couldn’t be forced.
At the mention of this, Jiufang Cangze remembered how Fen Yu was broken. He cleared his throat to hide his awkwardness. “That… when do you plan to leave here?”
Qiu Fuxue held up the wooden sword, examining its flaws. He answered casually, “The Primordial Deity has arranged a trial for me. When I pass the trial, we’ll leave.”
“We…?” Jiufang Cangze’s voice held a hint of expectation.
“Me, and A-Yun.” Qiu Fuxue intentionally emphasized the words, then stood up and went back into his room.
Jiufang Cangze froze in place for a moment. He was about to follow, but a blade suddenly appeared at his neck, stopping him.
“Stay away from my Senior Brother!”
The door slammed shut with a bang, and the gust of wind it created fluttered a few loose strands of his hair. In such a short time, Jiufang Cangze had already experienced the most pathetic moments of his demonic life.
A hand patted his shoulder from behind. He turned and saw Taichu’s smiling face. “Do you like him?”
Jiufang Cangze coldly backed away. “What does it have to do with you?”
“Naturally, it has to do with me.” Taichu slowly opened a folding fan with a dark iron cloud pattern embedded in its tip.
“Fuxue was planted by my own hands, and you were raised by me. I have to take responsibility for both of your futures.”
Jiufang Cangze’s eyes darkened. He leaned in close to Taichu and said in a menacing tone, “Once I get out, I’ll smash this illusionary place of yours and make you vanish from the world forever… agh!”
Before he could finish, Taichu raised his hand and hit him hard on the head with the fan.
Jiufang Cangze cried out in pain, holding his head for a long time.
Taichu sighed, supporting his forehead. “You’re still so full of killing intent, child. You need someone to discipline you.”
With that, he knocked on the door and called out, “Fuxue, give this fellow a hard time.”
Hearing Taichu’s voice, Qiu Fuxue opened the door and met Jiufang Cangze’s gaze for a moment.
Then, a tearing pain came from Jiufang Cangze’s heart.
Jiufang Cangze fell to his knees, his brow furrowed. “Tai…chu… You… you’re despicable!”
He had refused to remove the Golden Silk Birdcage Seal (金絲囚籠印), so Taichu had found a new way. He made the power of the curse work in reverse. As long as Qiu Fuxue willed it, he could use the curse on his wrist to make Jiufang Cangze suffer.
Taichu was, after all, an ancient deity. Even as a remnant soul, his power was unfathomable.
After some time, Taichu taught Li Yun illusionary arts and imparted some cultivation methods to Qiu Fuxue. Qiu Fuxue was born an immortal, and with just a little guidance, he was able to skillfully use the spiritual energy of the Immortal Realm.
Taichu was pleased with how fast he was growing. Then he looked back at a certain lazy demon who only fought with the immortal deer. The two were like heaven and earth.
In front of a splashing waterfall, the handsome man was swinging his wooden sword, his movements graceful. The silver ribbon in his hair swayed with every motion.
Li Yun stood to the side, watching with a gentle gaze.
Taichu hurried back to the courtyard to pat the disappointing demon. “You’ve always liked to seize things by force. Why don’t you go do it now?”
Jiufang Cangze narrowed his eyes. The whooshing sound of the waterfall made him feel restless. “I don’t care about it! When are you going to let me out?”
He knew Taichu best. The deity might seem gentle on the outside, but he was full of wicked ideas. Anyone who listened to him was in for a terrible time.
“You don’t care?” Taichu laughed. “With the fierce spirits causing chaos, Fuxue has a great responsibility on his shoulders. So why are you so eager to get out? To make trouble for him?”
“Since you don’t care, then don’t leave. Put on a plow and stay here to farm the land for me.”
“…You!”
Whether it was a real fight or a verbal one, Jiufang Cangze had never once beaten Taichu.
At that moment, Qiu Fuxue put his sword away and walked over with Li Yun. “Primordial Deity, we are ready. The trial can begin.”
Taichu nodded, giving Jiufang Cangze a sinister look. “There’s still a good-for-nothing here. If you two don’t mind, you can take him with you.”
“We mind,” Li Yun immediately rejected.
