- Chapter 35 - The Primordial Deity Pities Snow
Li Yun was struggling, his precious little spiritual energy slowly being drained. Just as he was at his limit, he suddenly felt a powerful force assisting him from behind.
He turned in surprise. “…Jiufang Cangze ?”
Jiufang Cangze’s eyes were tightly closed, as if he was also enduring the pain. “Focus!”
Demonic energy and spiritual energy originated from the same source in ancient times. Li Yun, a mortal who cultivated later, had far less innate power compared to a primordial demon like Jiufang Cangze.
As a massive amount of spiritual energy poured into the decaying corpse, the lotus flowers in the pond swayed, and the mangled body began to recover its original appearance.
Li Yun knelt in the pond, letting Qiu Fuxue rest on his arm. In his heart, he was secretly relieved that Jiufang Cangze’s demonic power was suppressed by the Immortal Realm; otherwise, just the bit of spiritual energy the demon had just shared would have been enough to tear him to shreds.
Jiufang Cangze, having spent a large part of his own spiritual energy, was overwhelmed by a wave of fatigue and exhaustion. Yet, he still managed to get close to Qiu Fuxue and examined the man’s hand.
In the end, he seemed satisfied. “He looks much better than before.”
Without waiting for Li Yun to drive him away, he climbed onto the shore on his own, found a comfortable spot, and fell into a deep sleep.
Li Yun looked at his defenseless back. If it weren’t for the rule of the Immortal Realm that no one could kill a living being, his sword would have pierced the demon long ago.
But in the Immortal Realm, time wasn’t supposed to flow. Yet, Qiu Fuxue’s body was rotting uncontrollably just moments ago, nearly turning into a skeleton.
Li Yun pressed his cheek against his senior brother’s, a sinister thought suddenly forming in his mind.
If he could find a way to take all of Jiufang Cangze’s spiritual power, would his senior brother wake up?
The snowy sky gradually dimmed. Li Yun waded to the shore as a nameless wind blew, scattering the thick mist and vaguely revealing a small, exquisitely simple courtyard.
Jiufang Cangze woke from his sleep to a night sky. He held his groggy head for a moment, then belatedly realized that even this timeless Immortal Realm had night.
The mist had dissipated in the darkness, making the view much clearer. He was just looking at the dim building in the distance suspiciously when he heard Li Yun expending his spiritual energy again.
“The body is rotting so quickly. There’s clearly something wrong here.”
However, Li Yun’s eyes were completely fixated on his senior brother, and he heard nothing else.
Jiufang Cangze scoffed at his foolishness, but still entered the lotus pond and generously offered some of his own spiritual energy.
The moment his spiritual energy surged out, the world seemed to change. The night sky suddenly vanished, and a brilliant light filled the area.
Jiufang Cangze’s expression tensed. He realized his Spiritual Orb was leaking power uncontrollably and immediately pulled his hand back, but it was too late. An external force, as if a spell, greedily absorbed his spiritual energy and transferred it all into Qiu Fuxue’s body.
“…You dare to trick me!”
Li Yun calmly traced the beautiful lines of his senior brother’s face, a faint, mocking smile on his lips. “You were simply too foolish.”
Feeling as if all his strength had been drained, Jiufang Cangze weakly collapsed into the lotus pond, choking on mouthfuls of cold water.
But it was far from over. As the clouds in the Immortal Realm swirled, time passed at a bizarre speed. Along with it, the power within his Spiritual Orb was also draining away.
A clear cracking sound echoed, but only he could hear it. Jiufang Cangze trembled and spat out a mouthful of fresh blood, experiencing the agony of a cracking Spiritual Orb for the first time.
With the healing from the immense spiritual energy, all of Qiu Fuxue’s wounds healed at a visible rate. Even the right eye that had been gouged out grew back.
“Hmph…!” His Spiritual Orb continued to drain. Jiufang Cangze struggled to his feet, his eyes on Li Yun filled with a chilling murderous intent. “You… you have a death wish!”
Li Yun was momentarily taken aback by his crimson eyes but quickly regained his composure. He picked up Qiu Fuxue and carried him ashore. Jiufang Cangze tried to struggle and stop him, but an icy cage descended from the sky, trapping him in place.
“What a show.”
A gentle, elegant voice came from the small courtyard obscured by mist. A man with a flowing cascade of softly glowing, snow-colored hair pushed open the courtyard gate. His features were handsome and gentle. With a wave of his sleeve, he completely dispersed the irritating white mist.
Jiufang Cangze’s eyes widened. He gritted his teeth. “Tai…chu!”
Li Yun held Qiu Fuxue and walked to the man, bowing respectfully. “This junior is Li Yun, a disciple of the Thousand Thoughts Sect. Greetings, Primordial Deity Taichu.”
“No need for such formality,” Taichu said, helping Li Yun up. He took Qiu Fuxue from his arms, and a faint light flickered in his light-colored eyes.
He led Li Yun and Qiu Fuxue back into the courtyard. As an afterthought, he turned back to the lotus pond and smiled gently.
“Cangze, you can stay in there for a while. I’ll let you out once I’ve saved this child.”
The only response he received was the sound of Jiufang Cangze’s furious punches and kicks against the ice cage.
The neatly arranged courtyard held only two rooms. As they passed the side room, they could vaguely see a stove inside through the open door.
Taichu placed Qiu Fuxue on his bed. The wound on his chest had healed, but inside, it was still empty; there was no sign of a Spiritual Orb.
Taichu sighed quietly. “This child has suffered greatly.”
The healed wound was bumpy and uneven. Li Yun’s heart ached just looking at it. “Primordial Deity, you cannot let Jiufang Cangze go…”
Taichu used his finger to draw a lotus on Qiu Fuxue’s chest. “Some truths can only be understood when they are spoken by the person themselves.”
He wrapped the white lotus in his gentle spiritual energy and looked up at Li Yun with a smile. “You can wait outside. You’ll be reunited with your senior brother soon.”
Li Yun hesitated for a moment, not wanting to leave Qiu Fuxue’s side, but he knew this was important. He nodded. “Yes.”
Qiu Fuxue felt as if he was in a very, very long dream.
In the dream, he relived his entire life.
In a dark chamber, a body covered in wounds lay naked, tied to a cold jade bed, its limbs spread wide, so every scar was clearly visible.
A large glowing pearl was stuffed in his mouth, allowing only muffled whimpers to escape. Qiu Fuxue’s eyes were filled with terror as the figure reflected in them came closer and closer.
“…You are too filthy.”
That person shook their head in disappointment, shining a dagger over every inch of his skin.
“But you’re barely usable.”
As despair filled his eyes, the person moved the sharp dagger to his chest, twisting their wrist to carve open the skin that was in the way.
“Mgh…呜呜…!”
Qiu Fuxue struggled, but then he felt a warm liquid flowing from his chest.
The person admired their own handiwork, their hands stained with fresh blood. They grabbed Qiu Fuxue’s black hair and pulled.
“Look, the heart is still beating.”
Qiu Fuxue was forced to look down. His chest was bloody and wide open. His shattered Spiritual Orb was faintly glowing, and next to it, his hot heart was still beating.
“Woo…”
So this was what it felt like to watch his own heart stop.
