- Chapter 33 - Immortal Realm of Cloud and Snow
Stepping into the Primordial Immortal Realm , Li Yun put away his longsword. He carefully held Qiu Fuxue’s body in his arms and pulled away the white cloth that had been covering him.
At that moment, the sight of the horrifying wounds pierced his eyes.
Qiu Fuxue’s chest was left with a gaping wound where his Spiritual Orb had been, now a desolate, empty space. In one glimpse, he could even see the heart within, already beginning to decay.
Li Yun delved deeper into the Immortal Realm until he found a wide lotus pond where misty snow blended with the water. With trembling arms, he gently placed Qiu Fuxue inside.
“Senior Brother, I’m sorry… I came too late…”
His choked sobs echoed in this chaotic place without boundaries. He raised his hand and gently placed it over Qiu Fuxue’s open eye, closing it for him.
Li Yun was an orphan that the Thousand Thoughts Sect had found at the foot of the mountain. From a young age, he loved to follow his senior brother, and influenced by him, he never slacked in his cultivation, quickly revealing an astonishing talent for illusions.
Three years ago, he had made a promise to his senior brother that he would find the most spiritually abundant place in the world to help him with his cultivation.
Now, he had found the Immortal Realm left behind by the Primordial Deity (太初上神), but when he returned full of joy to tell his senior brother, he was met with the news of his death.
The lotus pond’s water had not melted in ten thousand years, and a layer of mist floated on its surface. Qiu Fuxue’s messy hair covered his bloody eye socket, while his other eye remained closed.
Li Yun stepped into the lotus pond, shivering from the bone-chilling cold. He lay on his side next to Qiu Fuxue, taking his hand—the one with the five fingers severed—and placing it on his own waist, wanting to be held by his senior brother as he was as a child.
But he soon realized he had grown much taller than his senior brother. He could no longer hide in his arms and act spoiled as he once did.
“Senior Brother, A-Yun is so cold…”
Li Yun rested his head on Qiu Fuxue’s shoulder, a tear falling from his eye, but he received no response.
All he could hear was the gurgling of the water and the sight of the white lotus blossoms that swayed without wind.
Suddenly, a loud noise came from the distant sky. Li Yun wanted to ignore it and continue to stay with Qiu Fuxue, but the commotion grew louder, as if it would tear apart the entire Immortal Realm. The lotus pond’s water began to ripple, disturbing a strand of his hair.
Enraged, Li Yun stood up, took off his outer robe, and draped it over Qiu Fuxue’s body. He grabbed his longsword and strode towards the source of the noise.
Jiufang Cangze (九方蒼澤) was using all his might, throwing a punch at the sturdy barrier. Not only did it not crack, but it became even stronger.
“Don’t struggle. This place is the Immortal Realm left behind by the Primordial Deity. It’s specifically designed to counter evil creatures like you.”
Li Yun appeared behind him, his voice icy cold as he held his sword.
Not to mention the Demon Clan, even cultivators like them couldn’t use any spells in the Primordial Immortal Realm; they could only use physical force with spiritual energy, and they were forbidden from killing.
Jiufang Cangze had followed Li Yun into the realm and only realized he had been tricked the moment he entered.
Primordial was his archenemy. It was the Primordial Deity who had severely wounded him, forcing him to sleep for three thousand years. After he woke up, his cultivation was far from what it used to be; otherwise, dealing with a mere Qiu Fuxue would have been child’s play.
With his magical cultivation blocked, Jiufang Cangze took a breath and turned to Li Yun. “I don’t need magic to deal with you.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the cold blade of a sword was at his neck. “Jiufang Cangze, you use a spirit as your weapon. Now that you’ve entered this Immortal Realm, you should think carefully about the consequences!”
Jiufang Cangze’s spiritual core was his spear, Hengjiang (橫江). With the realm restricting the power of spirits, he naturally couldn’t summon his weapon.
The spiritual cores of ordinary people were merely辅助, but only someone like Jiufang Cangze, throughout history, would use their core as their main weapon.
Wherever Hengjiang pointed, no grass would grow, but now its weakness was fully exposed.
Jiufang Cangze turned his head. The cold reflection of the sword blade mirrored his crimson eyes. He suddenly scoffed, calmly pushing Li Yun’s sword away. “That old fellow, Primordial, can’t stand bloodshed. Now that we’re here, all living beings are to be treated the same. You cannot kill me.”
With that, he walked past Li Yun and headed deeper into the misty white depths.
Li Yun put away his longsword and followed him. In a few breaths, they had reached the lotus pond.
The quiet, sleeping figure lay in the pond, surrounded by a large expanse of blooming white lotuses. But his own lotus, however, had been dyed a deep black and had withered.
Jiufang Cangze stood by the pond, his fingers unconsciously curling. The feeling in his heart was indescribable.
He truly had not killed Qiu Fuxue.
Li Yun arrived behind him and pulled him to the side, his eyes red. “I can’t kill you here, but once we are out, I will definitely avenge my senior brother!”
Jiufang Cangze stared at the figure in the lotus pond, repeating the words in his heart. “I didn’t kill Qiu Fuxue…”
“You’re still arguing!” Li Yun jumped into the lotus pond, gently picking up Qiu Fuxue’s right hand. All five fingers had been cleanly severed by a blade. A small amount of demonic energy leaked from the dried wounds, but it was quickly purified by the cold mist.
The white mist in front of him made his eyes ache. Jiufang Cangze closed his eyes and rubbed his temples. “Qiu Fuxue was taken away by the Thousand Thoughts Sect. How did you find him in a mass grave?”
Hearing this, Li Yun froze. After he found the Primordial Immortal Realm, he rushed back. When he arrived at Sunset City, he heard that his senior brother had died a terrible death at Jiufang Cangze’s hands. He had planned to return to the Thousand Thoughts Sect to confirm, but a vicious spirit had suddenly appeared and led him to the mass grave, where he then saw his senior brother’s unblinking corpse.
Jiufang Cangze could tell from his expression that he had finally understood. He sneered. “His body was hung on the city wall and was already taken back by people from the Thousand Thoughts Sect. The people of Sunset City can all testify. Why would a body taken back to the Thousand Thoughts Sect appear in a mass grave?”
As for who had truly killed Qiu Fuxue, Jiufang Cangze already had a guess, but he still couldn’t be certain.
Li Yun held Qiu Fuxue tightly, deep in thought, then let out a cold laugh. “Regardless of the truth behind his death, you can’t deny these wounds on my senior brother’s body.”
Jiufang Cangze was silent. He tried to step into the pond to get closer to Qiu Fuxue, but he was forced back by a sudden surge of sword energy.
It had been a long time since he had felt so powerless.
“Fine.” He gave Li Yun a cold look. Qiu Fuxue was dead anyway; the rest of these matters had nothing to do with him.
He was better off spending this time finding a way to leave this dreadful place.
Li Yun glared at Jiufang Cangze’s retreating back, then lowered his head to caress the cold cheek of the person in his arms. His gaze instantly softened. “Senior Brother…”
“Senior Brother, you can rest assured now. A-Yun will avenge you.”
With that, tears streamed down his face. He took a silver-white ribbon from his sleeve, with a cute, lively rabbit drawn on the end. He carefully arranged his senior brother’s black hair and tied it with the ribbon.
He still remembered the night before he left, a hot-blooded youth who had drunk too much had spoken nonsense, asking his senior brother to marry him and promising to return with a token to give to him personally.
