- Chapter 29 - Feigned Affection for True Feelings
After a long, passionate kiss, Jiufang Cangze’s hand moved down Qiu Fuxue’s thigh, but it was stopped by a thick layer of bandages.
He was stunned for a moment, then stopped his movements and pulled up the bottom of Qiu Fuxue’s clothes. The white bandages, stained crimson, were exposed.
“How did this happen?” His voice held a hint of displeasure.
Qiu Fuxue looked up at him. The wounds the other person had inflicted on him were far more numerous, so why was he angry about these two insignificant scars?
He carefully considered his words and told him a half-truth. “I got these injuries in the side hall.”
And he had followed his words, indulging Du Xiaoshuang’s temper, which was why he hadn’t resisted.
“The side hall…” Jiufang Cangze murmured these two words. They both knew who was in the side hall.
A warm, large palm covered his knee. After a burst of heat, Qiu Fuxue felt the pain that had been tormenting him for the past two days suddenly vanish.
His other knee was treated in the same way. Jiufang Cangze unwrapped the bandages, and the clean, tender skin was as good as new.
“You don’t have to go back. You’ll sleep here with me from now on.”
Qiu Fuxue’s fingers tightened unconsciously. This would not do. It was too dangerous to be afoot under his watchful eyes.
“Venerable One…” He started to say, but he hadn’t yet thought of an excuse, so he just stood there with his mouth open, not knowing what to say.
But this look, in Jiufang Cangze’s eyes, was interpreted as him being too grateful to express his feelings.
He turned back and kissed his forehead, pulling the brocade blanket over him tightly, with no intention of continuing to harass him.
“Get some rest. I’ll be back later to keep you company.”
The door opened and closed with a soft sound. Qiu Fuxue touched the lingering warmth on his forehead and thought to himself that it would be better if he didn’t come back at all.
Life was so easy and comfortable after leaving the side hall that Qiu Fuxue almost forgot he had a heavy mission on his shoulders.
Jiufang Cangze was overly good to him. His hands were no longer locked in heavy shackles, and the golden cage mark was not used again. Every day during meals, he would observe what he liked to eat and then specifically order more to be made.
Ever since Qiu Fuxue had tasted dishes other than petals, he had been craving the food here. He sat on Jiufang Cangze’s lap, putting one spoonful of delicious food after another into his mouth.
Jiufang Cangze watched his greedy look, and the usual coldness in his crimson eyes softened.
He leaned against Qiu Fuxue’s neck and took a deep breath. “Little fellow, what do you think about what I said the other day?”
Qiu Fuxue stopped putting food in his mouth, looking confused.
Jiufang Cangze chuckled softly, reminding him, “Getting married.”
“…”
How absurd!
Qiu Fuxue stuck his neck out. He couldn’t understand why he was so fixated on this. Was this how normal lovers lived?
He took a sip of the tea on the table to calm himself down. “Whatever the Venerable One wishes.”
Jiufang Cangze had expected him to say that, so he pinched him on the waist. “This time, I’m giving you the decision.”
Qiu Fuxue lowered his gaze. He never planned to leave the Demon Realm alive. His Spiritual Orb would be sacrificed to the Moon Shadow Wall, and his soul would be annihilated with it. If they got married, a thread of karma would be added to his fate. He didn’t know if the power of his Spiritual Orb would fall into the other’s hands after his death.
From every angle, this marriage could not happen.
Qiu Fuxue gritted his teeth in secret. He turned his head and climbed onto Jiufang Cangze’s neck, rubbing his face against his chest. His voice was soft. “Venerable One, please give me some time to think.”
If Jiufang Cangze truly liked something, he was never stingy with his affection. He stroked the ink-black hair of the person in his arms and smiled helplessly. “Okay, I’ll do as you say.”
After lunch, Jiufang Cangze left. Qiu Fuxue went back to bed for a while. When he woke up, he got up and went to the library.
These days, whenever he had a free moment, he would stay in the library for a while. First, it made his future actions less suspicious. Second, he genuinely liked the ancient books in there.
On the way, he overheard a cleaning attendant talking. He heard that Du Xiaoshuang was causing trouble again, but he had been grounded by Jiufang Cangze in the side hall, and no one was allowed to visit him.
Qiu Fuxue’s heart didn’t stir at all after hearing this. The nature of slaughter flowed in the blood of all demons, especially Jiufang Cangze. He treated everything like a child who had yet to grow up. His love came and went quickly, and at times, he would even cruelly destroy it.
He was so engrossed in reading the ancient books that he didn’t notice the sky outside had already darkened. Qiu Fuxue lit a ghost fire, got up, and pushed open the back window of the library.
He had fallen down from here last time, but Jiufang Cangze would not make the same mistake twice. The entrance had been sealed after that incident.
Qiu Fuxue poked his head out and looked down, but he couldn’t feel any power fluctuations.
The ghost fire flickered dimly. Suddenly, a strange, chilly wind came through the window, extinguishing all the light.
The next day, Qiu Fuxue woke up early and went to the kitchen. After a lot of running around, he brought a plate of not-so-good-looking pastries to Jiufang Cangze.
Jiufang Cangze lowered his eyes to look at the “ugly” pastries, then suddenly curled his lips into a smile. “Why did you suddenly think of making something like this?”
Qiu Fuxue looked nervous. His fingers under the table were a tangled mess. “I wanted to make some for the Venerable One to try… And I also washed the dirty clothes from before.”
“You can leave these things for the servants to do,” Jiufang Cangze said without hesitation. He picked up a piece of pastry and put it in his mouth.
It was very sweet, so sweet it was disgusting.
But Qiu Fuxue’s hands, which used to wield swords to slay demons, were now willing to obediently wash clothes and cook for him. A huge sense of accomplishment filled his heart.
No matter how disgusting the pastries were, Jiufang Cangze ate all of them. In the end, he smiled and asked Qiu Fuxue, “So, are you doing all this because you’ve figured it out and want to live a good life with me from now on?”
A timely blush appeared on his cheeks. Qiu Fuxue said softly, “This is what lovers in the human world are like.”
Jiufang Cangze tilted his head, poking his finger at the location of his heart on his chest. “Lovers?”
Although he had been confident he could tame him from the start, this was too fast, so fast it made him suspicious.
Qiu Fuxue knew Jiufang Cangze would be suspicious. He grabbed the finger on his chest and, under the other’s surprised gaze, slowly put it to his lips and kissed it.
“Venerable One, I don’t dare to ask for all of your love. I only ask that you don’t let me down.”
“You’re right. I have nowhere else to go. Staying by your side could also be a good home for me.”
Before, he had always been fighting against his responsibility and fate, but reality was always cruel. The constant blows from fate made him realize that he couldn’t save anyone.
Having fallen from his pedestal, he could only survive by relying on a powerful person.
He had openly accepted his fate, and Jiufang Cangze also noticed that he was indeed different from before.
He reached out and pulled the person into his arms, pressing his lips against his and lightly biting them. A different kind of desire arose in his heart. “Little fellow, I will not treat you unfairly.”
