- Chapter 27 - The First Stirrings of Love
The attendants were stunned when they saw who it was, then they all knelt down. “Shadow Lord!”
Lunling waved his hand dismissively. He stretched an arm back and placed it on Qiu Fuxue’s shoulder. The two looked like good friends. “It’s nothing. I just came to remind you. The Venerable One holds him in high regard, so you’d better think twice before you act.”
As he spoke, he wasn’t afraid to pat Qiu Fuxue, which earned him a look from the latter.
“This…”
The attendants looked at each other again, then all turned to look at Du Xiaoshuang.
Du Xiaoshuang’s fists were clenched in his sleeves, but he wasn’t intimidated at all. “Since the Shadow Lord has spoken, you may leave.”
“Yes.” The attendants quickly fled the scene of the conflict.
With Lunling in the middle, Du Xiaoshuang couldn’t do anything else to Qiu Fuxue. He lifted his feet and walked away, glaring fiercely at him as he passed by.
“Arrogant due to favor.” Once Du Xiaoshuang was a little farther away, Lunling laughed at his back.
Everyone in Qingming Palace knew that Du Xiaoshuang was nothing more than a prostitute from a brothel who, by chance, caught Jiufang Cangze’s favor. He was now a common crow that had flown onto a branch and become a phoenix, and he was incredibly arrogant.
But Qiu Fuxue’s purpose in returning was not to please Jiufang Cangze. He had a nonchalant expression, removed Lunling’s arm, and said, “Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” Lunling raised an eyebrow, sizing up his soaked clothes. “Need a hand?”
Qiu Fuxue followed his gaze and shook his head. “No, it’ll dry on its own after a while.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he suddenly felt a warm, dry sensation all over his body, and his soaked clothes were instantly dried.
Lunling pretended to look elsewhere. “You owe me another favor.”
Qiu Fuxue lowered his head and held his clothes, which were as good as new. He hesitated for a long time before finally asking the question that was on his mind. “Why have you helped me so many times?”
The people in the General’s Residence all had ulterior motives and were happy to cause trouble for Jiufang Cangze, so it made sense. But the malevolent shadows’ loyalty to the Demon Venerable was unquestionable, especially Lunling. There was no need for him to risk betraying Jiufang Cangze to help him.
Lunling scratched his head, as if this was a very difficult question to answer. “Well… because I’m kind-hearted?”
If he didn’t become sworn brothers with Fifteen with that answer, it would be a shame.
With Lunling’s “protection,” Du Xiaoshuang didn’t come to bother Qiu Fuxue again. Jiufang Cangze seemed to be occupied with something these past few days. With these two guys not bothering him, he was at peace for a change.
But the lake’s surface was calm, while undercurrents surged below.
On this day, Qiu Fuxue was meditating with his eyes closed, trying to establish some connection with the spiritual energy that was being swallowed by the demonic energy. An attendant suddenly came in with a message, saying that the Venerable One wanted him to wait in his sleeping quarters.
Qiu Fuxue nodded to show he understood. After the attendant left, he turned around and pulled out a small porcelain bottle from under his pillow.
Lunling had given him this medicine the last time, saying that if he used it, it could lessen the pain of that kind of thing.
With a mix of emotions, Qiu Fuxue sighed deeply, then got up and went to Jiufang Cangze’s sleeping quarters.
Jiufang Cangze was not there. Qiu Fuxue walked around the empty hall, tilted his head, and thought for a moment. Then he knelt down beside the bed.
He had to play the part to the end. Otherwise, Jiufang Cangze would never stop being suspicious of him, and his future actions would be hindered.
After kneeling for less than half an hour, Qiu Fuxue’s knees ached. Just then, he suddenly heard a voice from outside. “What did you do wrong to be so well-behaved?”
Jiufang Cangze strode in, holding his arms and helping him up.
Qiu Fuxue’s legs were numb from kneeling. When he got up, he couldn’t stand straight and fell into the other’s arms.
He said woodenly, “I didn’t do anything wrong… I just wanted to wait for the Venerable One.”
Jiufang Cangze picked him up by the waist, sat on the edge of the bed, and played with his wrists. “You’re not used to this, are you?”
“What?” Qiu Fuxue leaned his head against his chest, trying to find a comfortable position. The complicated ornaments on his clothes were a bit poky.
Jiufang Cangze lowered his eyes and smiled. “Resisting the urge to reject me.”
Qiu Fuxue was stunned for a moment. He remembered that it was Jiufang Cangze who had tried every way to make him behave, and now that his wish had come true, he felt awkward.
With a click, he suddenly felt a lightness on his wrists. He came to his senses. The heavy golden shackles had finally been removed.
Jiufang Cangze held the wrist with the scarred skin and said, with a hint of nostalgia, “It’s been a long time since I used this curse mark.”
A bad premonition rose in his heart. Sure enough, in the next second, a red light flashed, and Qiu Fuxue was back in the golden cage.
“Venerable One.” He looked at Jiufang Cangze with a wronged expression from inside. A moment ago, they were so affectionate, and now he had been locked in a cage again.
Jiufang Cangze reached his hand through the bars and playfully poked him. He laughed. “Don’t you like it? It’s been a long time since I’ve seen you in here. I’ll let you out now.”
He said that, but he made no move to let him out. Instead, he kept lightly stroking Qiu Fuxue’s cheek, as if playing with a small animal.
The slight touch made Qiu Fuxue feel itchy, but being in the cage, he had nowhere to hide. He looked quite helpless.
Jiufang Cangze had his fun and finally pulled himself together, activating the curse to release him.
He grabbed Qiu Fuxue’s wrist, held it above his head, and rained down a series of lingering kisses. “Xiaoshuang is still a child at heart. Since you, my heartless little guy, ran away, he was the one who stayed with me. If he throws a tantrum, you need to indulge him a little.”
“Yes.”
These were not difficult things for Qiu Fuxue to do. He had a good temperament, but seeing the other person untie the belt around his waist and prepare to forcefully make a move, he quickly spoke up to stop him. “Venerable One, wait… wait!”
Jiufang Cangze stopped as he was told. After all, this was the first time he had been stopped during this kind of activity.
Qiu Fuxue freed his hand from the other’s grasp, took out the porcelain bottle hidden in his sleeve, his cheeks slightly flushed. “Venerable One, I’m afraid of pain. Use this.”
Jiufang Cangze pulled out the stopper and sniffed it, his lips curling. “Did Lunling give this to you?”
Besides him, Jiufang Cangze couldn’t think of a second person who would dare to do such a thing.
“Yes…” Qiu Fuxue’s head was so low it was almost buried in the ground.
With a cool sensation, Jiufang Cangze applied the ointment with two fingers. He held Qiu Fuxue on his lap, helping him while kissing his smooth, fair shoulder.
“Qiu Fuxue, I think… I’m falling in love with you.”
“Er… Ah…!” Qiu Fuxue’s fingers dug into the ground. He trembled all over, not knowing if it was because of the words or the sensation. His body suddenly went limp as he leaned against the other.
Finding his reaction amusing, Jiufang Cangze chuckled softly, then switched to another position. “I’ll give you a title. You’ll be my Demon Queen. You won’t have to think about anything else, just lie in bed and wait for me.”
If this was what every day was like, Qiu Fuxue would definitely not want it, because it was not a pleasant experience.
He blinked his teary peach blossom eyes, then turned his head and took the initiative to kiss him. “Venerable One, I’m not worthy.”
Jiufang Cangze was pleased with his initiative and intensified his movements, showing even more affection for the person in his arms. That soft voice was like a little kitten scratching at his heart.
“Little fellow, I think… I’ve fallen in love with you.”
