- Chapter 25 - The Golden Canary Returns to the Cage
“…Fuxue? Is that you?” On the other end, Yuan Lietian’s voice came through, full of disbelief.
Tears blurred his eyes, and Qiu Fuxue nodded. He then realized the other party couldn’t see him, so he said softly, “It’s me, Master.”
He had thought countless times about what to say when he saw his Master again, but now that the moment was here, thousands of words were stuck in his throat, and he couldn’t utter a single one.
Due to the two barriers, both of their voices were a bit muffled.
There was a rustle on Yuan Lietian’s end, as if he was also choking up. “Fuxue, don’t hate Dongze. He had no other choice…”
“Your disciple understands.” Qiu Fuxue asked softly, “Master, is there a task you need me to complete in the Demon Realm?”
Yuan Lietian sighed. “It’s the Moon Shadow Wall.”
“Recently, many demons have been appearing for no reason in the human world. The Nine Fiends have been showing up one after another. The Immortal Sects have teamed up to resist them, but we have suffered heavy losses. We suspect it’s Jiufang Cangze’s conspiracy.”
Qiu Fuxue’s arm was numb from holding the same position for a long time. He moved his body. “Master, for some reason, Jiufang Cangze cannot cross the Immortal-Demon Barrier with his own power, but he is indeed using the Nine Fiends, and he has sealed the Moon Shadow Wall in the Demon Realm’s underground palace.”
“I see…” Yuan Lietian went silent, seeming to be deep in thought.
After a while, he suddenly said, “Fuxue, can you get to the location of the Moon Shadow Wall?”
Qiu Fuxue recalled the tragic death of Fifteen. He could not only get him to it but could also get inside without any problems.
He told Yuan Lietian about his experiences from the past few days, and the other party’s voice became much more excited after hearing it.
“That’s great! Fuxue, as long as you can enter the Moon Shadow Wall again, you can destroy it and stop Jiufang Cangze from getting more of the Nine Fiends’ power!”
His voice was too loud. Qiu Fuxue hurriedly hid the Spiritual Rhinoceros under his body and looked around, afraid of attracting the guards outside.
Fortunately, the guards were engrossed in drinking and having fun and didn’t notice the commotion.
Too tired to sit any longer, Qiu Fuxue simply lay on the ground. “Master, how can I destroy the Moon Shadow Wall?”
After all, he didn’t even have the strength to kill himself right now.
Yuan Lietian spoke earnestly, “Fuxue, you are a Pure Spirit Body. Your Spiritual Orb contains spiritual power from ancient times, which can restrain the demonic energy of the Nine Fiends.
“The Nine Fiends are sealed in the Moon Shadow Wall. As long as you take this opportunity to release your spiritual energy, you can destroy the Moon Shadow Wall and the Nine Fiends along with it.”
“Release… my spiritual energy?” Qiu Fuxue’s lips moved, and his voice was faint.
His spiritual energy was the white lotus in his Spiritual Orb, a life source more important than his divine consciousness. Even though it had been polluted by demonic energy, as long as his spiritual energy was still there, he could live.
Releasing his spiritual energy would mean destroying his Spiritual Orb first, which was no different from having his soul completely annihilated.
As if sensing Qiu Fuxue’s hesitation and confusion, Yuan Lietian sighed deeply again. “Fuxue, I’m sorry, we really have no other choice…”
“Your Master knows that you have suffered a lot of injustice over the years. Of course, if you’re unwilling, it’s okay. I’ll take my men and break into the Demon Realm to save you.”
The roars of the beasts in the Abyss of Ten Thousand Tribulations appeared in his mind. Yuan Fu and Yuan Qiao were thrown in there because they were trying to save him.
Too many innocent people had already sacrificed themselves for his pathetic life.
Qiu Fuxue shook his head hard, his heart firm. “Master, your disciple is already a cripple. Even if I return, I can’t bring any value to the Thousand Heart Sect.”
“I am willing to perish with the Moon Shadow Wall.”
Having made his decision, the Master and disciple reluctantly said their final goodbyes. The light from the Spiritual Rhinoceros flickered and then died out completely.
Fearing that Jiufang Cangze would discover he had contacted the Thousand Heart Sect, he put the Spiritual Rhinoceros back into the flesh on his back. He then pretended to have a sudden strange illness, which led the guards to summon Qingshu again.
Qingshu stitched up his wound, stood with his arms crossed, and looked at him with a half-smile. “All taken care of?”
Qiu Fuxue lowered his eyes, not wanting to meet his gaze. “…Thank you.”
At least now he knew that not all of the demons were loyal to Jiufang Cangze.
Qingshu paced beside him. “You’re welcome. Go back and apologize properly to the Venerable One, serve him, and don’t have any other thoughts.”
With that, he cast a healing spell on Qiu Fuxue’s back. The wound that had just been stitched up immediately returned to its pre-injury state.
Qiu Fuxue raised his hand to touch it. He hadn’t expected Qingshu to help him to this extent. He had only hoped that the other party could provide some concealment for the wound so it wouldn’t be so obvious.
“If you’re going to help, you might as well go all the way.” Qingshu raised an eyebrow. He then picked up his wrist and traced the incomplete golden cage mark left by the damaged skin and flesh.
For the first time, Qiu Fuxue was so obedient. He even stretched his arm forward to make it easier for him to inspect it.
Sensing his small gesture, Qingshu laughed. “No other meaning. I’m just admiring it.”
With that, he packed up his medicine and waved to Qiu Fuxue. “Go back to your cage, little golden canary.”
Qiu Fuxue obediently lowered his head and admitted his mistake, wanting to get Jiufang Cangze’s forgiveness. But the other party didn’t seem willing to give him that opportunity.
He begged for many days in the dungeon, enduring much abuse and cold stares. Finally, after a round of torture, he fainted and was dragged to Qingming Palace.
Ice-cold water was poured on him. His wet, ink-black hair stuck to his cheeks. Qiu Fuxue’s eyelashes fluttered, and he weakly opened his eyes.
This place was a side hall of Qingming Palace, and its decoration was no less luxurious than the main hall.
Jiufang Cangze sat on the main seat, seeming not to notice Qiu Fuxue at all. He held a slender body in his arms, chatting and laughing.
From Qiu Fuxue’s perspective, he could only see a pair of porcelain-white arms wrapped around Jiufang Cangze’s neck. The person’s head was buried in his arms, so he couldn’t see their face at all.
But for Jiufang Cangze to be so fond of them, their looks shouldn’t be bad.
Qiu Fuxue shrank back into the puddle of cold water and coughed twice. He then got up and knelt straight, bowing down.
There was no movement from above for a long time. Qiu Fuxue secretly looked up and saw that Jiufang Cangze wasn’t even looking at him.
He lowered his head again, cleared his throat, and said hoarsely, “Venerable One, your subject knows his mistake.”
The small voice echoed for a moment and then was gone. Jiufang Cangze finally looked away from the person in his arms and coldly glanced at the disheveled figure below.
“Immortal Master Fuxue has such a big ego. I’m tired of hearing these words.”
That’s different.
Qiu Fuxue lowered his head, refuting him in his heart. Before, he was forced by the Parasitic Joy.
Seeing that he was silent, Jiufang Cangze lowered his head. As if teasing a small pet, he lifted the chin of the person in his arms. His voice was filled with coldness. “Xiaoshuang, do you think I should forgive him?”
Du Xiaoshuang’s voice was soft and sweet. He giggled twice, wrapped his arms around Jiufang Cangze’s neck, and rubbed his face against his chest. “A person who dares to betray the Venerable One deserves to die a thousand deaths.”
“But if he’s sincerely remorseful, I’m willing to serve the Venerable One alongside the Immortal Master.”
