- Chapter 24 - Breaking Blood for the Spiritual Rhinoceros
Fifteen’s body was thrown in front of Ye Zhu’s residence. The guards at the gate only heard the muffled thud of a heavy object hitting the ground. In the blink of an eye, they were met with a pair of dead, gray eyes.
Instantly, the entire residence fell into chaos, and the commotion alarmed Ye Zhu.
He came to Fifteen’s side, closed his eyes for him, and then, with a calm expression, ordered his burial.
However, Qiu Fuxue knew nothing of what was happening outside.
Jiufang Cangze had locked him in the dungeon again, but this time, the malevolent shadow was too busy to deal with him. Instead, the dungeon guards tortured him, making him suffer greatly.
“Ahhhhh—!”
The skin below his nape, along with the fresh flesh, was ripped off. Qiu Fuxue arched his long neck and let out a heart-wrenching scream.
He struggled desperately, but his wrists were firmly locked by chains embedded in the ground. His fingers dangled over a basin of scorching ghost fire, and they were already scorched black.
“Pah!” The torturer threw the ripped-off skin and flesh into the ghost fire, spat at the back of his head, and then stepped on it, grinding it with his foot.
“You’ve got some looks. You should have taken the opportunity to serve the Venerable One instead of suffering like this!”
Qiu Fuxue’s lips were slightly parted as he gasped for air. His peach blossom eyes were tightly shut, and the strands of hair on his forehead were soaked in cold sweat, sticking messily to his cheeks, adding a touch of tragic beauty.
The torturer’s methods were much more vicious than the malevolent shadow’s. He knew which methods were the most painful but wouldn’t easily kill him. Qiu Fuxue suddenly felt that this physical pain was on par with the demonic energy entering his body.
When the time was up, his hands were untied. Qiu Fuxue was thrown into a corner like a pile of rotting meat. His upper clothes were all stripped off, leaving him with only a pair of dirty, tattered underpants.
He lay on the ground, and beads of blood on his back slowly spread. He didn’t realize he had passed out until he heard the sound of the cell door opening again.
“Sigh.” A sorrowful sigh hovered over his head. Qiu Fuxue heard Lunling’s voice—”Get him a healer. Don’t let him die like this.”
Then, he lost consciousness again.
A cool, painful sensation spread, and Qiu Fuxue instinctively struggled, but the person who came quickly held him down.
“Don’t move.”
The voice was familiar. Qiu Fuxue opened his eyes and turned his head to look at him. It was the demon healer who had treated him at Ye Zhu’s residence.
Qingshu smiled at him. His hands were skilled and nimble as he bandaged the large, ulcerated wound.
“They were looking for a healer to treat your injuries, so I came.”
Qiu Fuxue parted his lips but said nothing, allowing the man to lift his scorched hands and inspect them.
After seeing the injuries to his fingers, Qingshu frowned and made a soft “tsk.” “It’s a little tricky, but it’s not a problem.”
He took a jar of ointment from his sleeve, quickly applied it to Qiu Fuxue’s fingers, and then wrapped them in bandages.
“Done,” Qingshu said, puffing out his chest with a sense of accomplishment.
He held the thin hands, his gaze openly inspecting the golden cage markings on his wrists. “The Venerable One’s imprinting technique is unique in the world.”
The complex patterns were all etched into his mind. Qingshu finally got what he wanted and released the reddened wrists.
Qiu Fuxue waited for him to finish his research. His hands were released, resting lifelessly on the ground. “What’s the point of healing me? Next time I’m tortured, the wounds will just reopen…”
“That’s a wrong way of thinking,” Qingshu finally touched his pale cheek. It looked even more lifeless than it had in the General’s residence. “At least before the next round of torture, your pain will be much less.”
Qiu Fuxue said nothing more, closing his eyes as if he had fainted or fallen asleep.
Qingshu packed up his things. Before leaving, he gave him a meaningful look. “Since you’re not afraid of pain, I might as well give you a hint.”
“The thing inside your body can be taken out. A simple and crude method will do.”
Upon hearing this, Qiu Fuxue moved slightly.
Night fell, and the dungeon guards changed shifts. The ones on the night shift brought a jar of wine and brazenly set up a table and started drinking.
The guards’ resting place was quite far from Qiu Fuxue’s cell. He lay there, paying attention to the sounds for a while, and then crawled up from the ground.
Qingshu knowing that there was something hidden inside his body did not surprise Qiu Fuxue at all. After all, the other party was a very well-known healer.
But from Qingshu’s words, it seemed he knew what the thing was inside him but didn’t expose it on the spot. He wondered what he was planning.
With one shoulder leaning against the cold stone wall, Qiu Fuxue tore off a piece of cloth from his pants and bit it. His bandaged fingers reached behind his back, under his shoulder blade, and forcefully poked inward.
“Ugh!”
The squelching sound of flesh being churned rang out. Qiu Fuxue bit down on the tattered cloth in his mouth. His freshly bandaged fingers throbbed, and the muscles on his back twitched.
Finally, he felt the smooth, jagged edges of a Spiritual Rhinoceros that did not belong inside his body.
He tightly gripped the thin stone with his fingers and gritted his teeth, pulling it out along with some of the flesh on his back.
The Spiritual Rhinoceros stone, having been soaked in blood for a long time, had turned completely crimson.
On that day, Elder Dongze had stepped out of the barrier but then turned around and struck him with a palm, precisely to plant this Spiritual Rhinoceros that could send messages to the Thousand Heart Sect into his body without Jiufang Cangze noticing.
After all this time, Qiu Fuxue had thought about Elder Dongze’s intentions. The other party probably didn’t dislike him because he had fallen into the demon path. He was definitely left in the Demon Realm for a more important task.
This speculation was confirmed when he entered the Moon Shadow Wall and, affected by the surge of demonic energy, felt the existence of the Spiritual Rhinoceros.
The Thousand Heart Sect had never given up on him. Upon realizing this, a ray of light seemed to pierce through Qiu Fuxue’s despair.
The white bandages were once again stained red. He fell to the ground, exhausted, clutching the Spiritual Rhinoceros in his hand, and wiped the blood off it with his underpants.
He tried to circulate his Spiritual Orb, but the result was the same as before—no fluctuations at all.
Anxious about how to contact the Thousand Heart Sect, he suddenly heard voices and footsteps outside the cell.
The night shift guards, full of wine, finally remembered to patrol the depths of the dungeon.
Qiu Fuxue quickly put the Spiritual Rhinoceros in his mouth, closed his eyes, and turned his bloodied back to the inside, pretending to be unconscious.
The guards went to his cell. Seeing that he was still unconscious, they didn’t pay it any mind. They stopped and chatted with each other.
One of them stared at Qiu Fuxue’s face with a lustful look for a while and let out a long sigh. “With a face like that, he must be so satisfying in bed!”
Another guard laughed in mockery. “Satisfying or not, he’s not for you. I heard this little thing was a gift from the Venerable One after he got tired of playing with him. He was given specifically for the Generals to play with.”
“He’s probably slept in more beds than you’ve had meals!”
The men burst into laughter, said a few more lewd words, and then left to go back to rest.
Qiu Fuxue was completely unmoved by these words. He just saw them as mindless demons. He perked up his ears and listened until the footsteps faded away. Then, he opened his eyes and spit out the Spiritual Rhinoceros.
He was about to try to circulate his Spiritual Orb again when he saw the silent patterns on the Spiritual Rhinoceros flash. It crossed two realms, and from thousands of miles away, a sigh was transmitted.
Qiu Fuxue’s eyes immediately turned red, and he choked out in a raspy voice, “…Master.”
