- Chapter 14 - Burning Jade Shattering the Spiritual Body
After the Butterfly Feather incident, demons ran rampant in the mortal world. Without the protection of the immortal lord, the elders of the Qiannian Sect had to step up. Elder Dong Ze, in particular, pursued the Tribulation Cloud and accidentally trespassed into the Demon Realm.
Having already exhausted most of his energy from fighting the Nine Evils, after a dozen moves, Elder Dong Ze was clearly no match for the formidable Shadow Lord.
Qiu Fuxue’s heart was filled with anxiety. Remembering the fate of the two disciples thrown into the Abyss of a Myriad Tribulations, he tried to go forward to help, but Jiufang Cangze stopped him.
“You clearly promised that as long as I was by your side, you wouldn’t harm the Qiannian Sect!”
“But you, little one, are not at peace,” Jiufang Cangze said, rolling his eyes at him. “Besides, he was the one who first trespassed into my territory.”
“Did you not lure Elder Dong Ze here by using the evil spirit first!”
After the lesson with the Jiaoren, Qiu Fuxue no longer believed in any coincidences that happened with Jiufang Cangze.
Jiufang Cangze’s crimson eyes narrowed slightly. He carefully scrutinized the fuming little person in front of him. It seemed he had grown a little more cunning since he first arrived.
But he still wasn’t very smart.
On the other side, the Tribulation Cloud had transformed into a monster-like being. It had a head on a long, stretched-out neck, and a large mouth filled with sharp, pointed teeth. Its appearance was extremely bizarre.
“Ugh—!”
A figure was wrapped by the Tribulation Cloud’s impossibly long arm and thrown to the ground at Jiufang Cangze’s feet.
Xuan Xu quickly wiped the blood from his lips, rolled over, and knelt down, begging for forgiveness. “Demon Lord, this subordinate is incompetent.”
“A bunch of useless trash!” The situation was more complicated than expected. Jiufang Cangze’s face darkened. He handed Qiu Fuxue to Xuan Xu, then personally entered the fray with his spear. “Keep an eye on him, and don’t let that old fool get away!”
It was rumored that the Tribulation Cloud had been tainted by human malice and gained sentience. Without a physical body, it could transform into any shape and was a perfect counter for someone like Jiufang Cangze, who fought recklessly.
However, Jiufang Cangze had just finished absorbing the Butterfly Feather’s power and had been sleeping with a spiritual body. His cultivation had barely improved by one level, so he was able to fight his natural enemy to a draw.
Elder Dong Ze’s appearance was the only variable tonight. Fortunately, the situation was still under control.
Since Qiu Fuxue had no cultivation, Xuan Xu let his guard down while his back was turned. Unexpectedly, in just a moment of closed-eyed meditation, a long sword pierced through his abdomen. A small stream of red liquid dripped from the sword’s tip onto the ground.
Xuan Xu clutched his wound and knelt on the ground, his eyes filled with disbelief. “Qiu Fuxue, you…!”
“I’m sorry,” Qiu Fuxue said, breathing heavily. He pulled the long sword out of his body, splashing blood on his face. “My magical power is weak. I can’t take your life, but I will not let you harm a single person from the Qiannian Sect!”
The price of forcibly operating his spiritual orb came so quickly. Almost as soon as he finished speaking, a surge of red liquid gushed from his throat. The demonic energy remaining in his body took the opportunity to invade, completely surrounding the orb.
Qiu Fuxue’s hand holding the sword was shaking, but his moves were still steady. He swung the sword and severed the troublesome shackles on his body. He fought with all his might and charged toward the lush green vines wrapped around the barrier.
This desperate method was extremely dangerous to his spiritual orb. Therefore, he had to help Elder Dong Ze escape safely before he collapsed.
“Qiu Fuxue! Are you crazy?!”
A furious roar came from behind. Jiufang Cangze was unable to break free from his fight with the increasingly bizarre Tribulation Cloud. Qiu Fuxue just glanced at him indifferently and continued to desperately squeeze out the last bit of his remaining spiritual energy.
The sturdy vines were cleanly cut from their roots. Lun Ling was momentarily stunned. He flipped backward, dodging the sharp sword energy. “You can summon your sword?”
“It cost me a little,” Qiu Fuxue said, supporting his shaky body as he blocked Elder Dong Ze. “Elder, you go first. Leave these demons to me.”
Elder Dong Ze’s face showed hesitation. His gaze fell on the hand that was shakily holding the sword. The flawless spiritual energy and the dark red demonic energy were clashing and intertwining. “Fuxue, have you fallen to the demons…?”
Qiu Fuxue was stunned by the question. He wanted to explain that Jiufang Cangze had forced him, but the situation was critical. The pain from his body and his spiritual orb, which was about to shatter, left him no room for hesitation.
On the other side, Jiufang Cangze was still entangled in a fight with the Tribulation Cloud, unable to break free. But his pair of crimson eyes were staring fiercely at Qiu Fuxue.
The old wounds that had healed from forcibly using his spiritual orb cracked open again. His pristine white clothes were stained a bright red. Qiu Fuxue swung his sword multiple times, fending off the swarming vines. The drops of blood falling from his robe left a tragic and beautiful trail on the dark ground.
Although one of the Evil Shadows had been taken down, the power of the other three was not to be underestimated. Qiu Fuxue struggled to fight alone, but every move he made was a sign of a do-or-die attitude.
The barrier was about to fully heal. Elder Dong Ze activated a formation and dispersed the mist, escaping this chaotic place first.
Qiu Fuxue looked back and, seeing that Elder Dong Ze was safe, felt greatly relieved. At the same time, his spiritual orb was exhausted. His hand lost its strength, and Fenyu fell to the ground with a “clang.”
He was only one step away from the misty barrier. As long as he crossed it, he could escape.
But he really had no more strength…
Suddenly, the ground cracked open. Thick vines shot out of the soil. They appeared to be trying to forcibly cross the barrier to chase Elder Dong Ze but instead, they used inertia to throw Qiu Fuxue out as well.
Through the gaps between the roots and leaves, Qiu Fuxue saw Lun Ling’s playful gaze.
Was he helping him…?
But before he could figure out why Lun Ling was helping him, he felt a powerful slap on his back. In the moment his body flew through the air, he could even hear a crisp sound of bones cracking.
“Ugh—!”
His wounded body fell to the ground like a withered leaf. Striking blood flowed. His charming peach blossom eyes were half-closed. A sharp, long spear had mercilessly pierced his arm.
—”Qiu Fuxue, from now on, the Qiannian Sect no longer has a disciple named you!”
Before he completely lost consciousness, he heard Elder Dong Ze say those words.
What did he do wrong this time, to be abandoned again…?
The palm strike from Elder Dong Ze carried a lot of magical power, clearly intending to “cleanse the sect.” Although Qiu Fuxue’s cultivation was gone, he had used Jiufang Cangze’s demonic energy to protect his life force.
The scarlet moon faded. The Qingming Palace, which was always filled with evil energy, now had a touch of decay.
Qiu Fuxue woke up from his daze. As expected, his eyes opened to the sight of the luxurious golden cage. He looked through the shining bars and saw the Demon Lord sitting high on the throne.
“Cough, cough, cough…”
His hands were bound and he was hung up high. He had gotten used to this position. With every cough, a stream of blood would flow from the wound on his chest.
It hurt so much. It felt as if all the bones in his body had been crushed.
“You’re awake?” A low voice carried a hint of anger.
Qiu Fuxue did not answer. He lowered his head, his gaze fixed on the pool of blood on the ground.
With so much blood loss, an ordinary mortal would have probably already been through several reincarnations.
“What a Fuxue Immortal Lord,” Jiufang Cangze said, getting up and pacing to him. “Immortal lord, with your compassionate heart, you can repay a group of ungrateful people from the Qiannian Sect with kindness?”
Jiufang Cangze reached his hand into the golden cage, deliberately tearing open his wounds that had stopped bleeding, feeling the person tremble from the pain.
Qiu Fuxue gripped the shackles on his wrists, his voice weak. “If it weren’t for you, how could the Elder be so suspicious of me…?”
“Because I slept with you?”
“You…!”
Qiu Fuxue looked up angrily, his delicate and beautiful face filled with rage.
But the Demon Lord was unconcerned, as if he were just teasing his pet canary. He snapped his fingers, and a black-clad guard appeared out of thin air, holding a long sword and presenting it to him.
Jiufang Cangze took the sword and examined it, then waved his hand for the guard to retreat.
The arrogant beauty was forced to meet his gaze as the cold blade of the sword was pressed against his chin.
“Qiu Fuxue, your spiritual orb is destroyed, so you’ve lost your usefulness. Why don’t I use your sword, Fenyu, to send you on your last journey?”
Qiu Fuxue had chosen the sword Fenyu from the armory as a child. It was originally an ordinary, spiritual-less sword, but it had gradually gained fame after following him for so many years.
He tugged at his chapped lips, his voice sounding a little relieved. “…I couldn’t ask for anything more.”
In this situation, death was the only true liberation.
The pendant on his neck was roughly yanked off. In the blink of an eye, a skeleton shaped like a butterfly wing suddenly appeared in the empty hall, taking up most of the space.
The golden cage vanished, and the restraints on his wrists were also removed, revealing the gruesome flesh.
Qiu Fuxue let out a wail of pain, rolling on the ground. When he opened his blood-crusted eyes, he saw the skeleton that had appeared out of nowhere.
This was the true remains of the Butterfly Feather. The small pendant was probably shrunk using magical power.
In a moment of distraction, a hard boot stepped mercilessly on the wound on his shoulder. The spot where it was pierced by the spear still had a few wisps of demonic energy slowly seeping out.
“Ugh…!”
“Don’t worry, there’s more pain to come,” a look of bloodthirsty cruelty appeared in Jiufang Cangze’s eyes.
The desperate hum of a weapon cut through the air. Qiu Fuxue only heard the sound of a sword breaking. Before he could react, he felt his body hit and fly backward.
Fenyu was shattered into seven pieces. They were lodged in his shoulders, hands, and ankles. The blade of the sword pierced his abdomen, pinning him to the pale white skeleton, like an object to be admired.
Blood gushed out, staining the white bones behind him. Qiu Fuxue’s eyes were wide and lifeless, unable to scream.
He must not have a single complete bone in his body now…
Jiufang Cangze took two steps back, admiring his “artwork” with satisfaction. His long boots left a trail of bloody footprints on the floor.
“The name Fenyu isn’t a good one. ‘Burning jade, shattering the spiritual body.’ Qiu Fuxue, are you satisfied with this death?”
“…Naturally.”
Qiu Fuxue lowered his head to look at the blade stuck in his abdomen. His heart was bleak. Fenyu had killed all the demons and monsters in the world. He never expected that the last thing it would kill before its own destruction would be its master.
The feeling of fainting from excessive blood loss came over him. Qiu Fuxue felt a sense of relief, as if he had never felt so relaxed before.
It was finally over.
His vision became blurry, but as Jiufang Cangze walked past him, the scar on the back of his neck was exceptionally clear.
“The Nine Evils emerge, the Scarlet Moon fades.” A clear path suddenly appeared in his hazy mind, connecting all these seemingly chaotic clues.
“Jiufang Cangze…” He breathed out weakly and called to him.
Jiufang Cangze raised his eyelids at the sound.
Qiu Fuxue gave a self-deprecating shake of his head. “Actually… your time is running out too, isn’t it?”
