- Chapter 10 - A Jiaoren's Piteous Dirge
When he opened his eyes, everything was pitch black.
Qiu Fuxue was disoriented, thinking he had been washed into a dark cave where he couldn’t see anything. He reached out to feel his surroundings.
He opened his mouth and breathed in warm, dry air, and then he realized that it wasn’t that there was no light around him; he was blind.
The Jiaoren had taken his eyes.
He had thought that since he had nothing left and didn’t even care about his Pure Spiritual Body, he wouldn’t lose anything even if this malevolent spirit tricked him.
He hadn’t expected the Jiaoren to take his eyes instead of his life.
His eyes, which had always been bright and pure, had become dull, a dead gray color, his pupils unfocused and scattered.
The chain that had shackled him was now wrapped around his neck. As long as the person holding the other end pulled tightly, he would be strangled to death.
“Little beauty, don’t move around, or I can’t guarantee your safety.”
Qiu Fuxue tried to get up to remove the deadly threat from his neck, but the Jiaoren’s voice stopped him.
Having lost his sight, he didn’t dare to act rashly. He stopped moving and turned his head toward the direction of the voice, saying coldly, “You lied to me.”
A light laugh came from beside him. The Jiaoren came up to Qiu Fuxue and touched his face with a hint of envy. “I didn’t lie to you. I just wanted a little more compensation. When my great plan is complete, I’ll definitely send you back safely.”
Qiu Fuxue disgustedly avoided his hand, then seemed to touch something, his whole body tensing up.
He felt a leg and scales.
When had this Jiaoren grown legs?
The Jiaoren was not stingy and extended his newly grown legs under Qiu Fuxue’s palm, saying with a smiling voice, “Beauty, your eyes were a great help. Not only are they beautiful, but they also helped me grow these legs.”
“It seems the power of a Pure Spiritual Body is greater than I imagined. Before I send you back, I’ll have to get a good taste of your body.”
The simple and naive young immortal didn’t understand the deeper meaning behind his words, thinking he also wanted to nibble on him like Jiufang Cangze.
Was this really how a Pure Spiritual Body was used?
His lack of sight made him feel extremely insecure. He frowned, angrily saying, “What do you want to do!”
“Don’t worry, just follow me.” The Jiaoren bent down and picked up the feisty little beauty. Even with the dozens of pounds of shackles on him, he was able to hold him without any effort.
“Qiu Fuxue, if this matter succeeds, you will be the benefactor of the Nine Evils of the Scarlet Moon. We know how to be grateful, unlike those heartless ants.”
The Jiaoren was mocking how Qiu Fuxue had saved the villagers, only to be sent to the Extermination Platform for punishment. He implied that if it were the Nine Evils, even though they were bloodthirsty, they would at least not allow their benefactor to be treated this way.
But Qiu Fuxue felt that something was very wrong.
What was his value that he could become the benefactor of the Nine Evils?
After entering the Demon Realm, this kind of aid to evil was not what he wanted to do.
Qiu Fuxue couldn’t see, so he didn’t know where the Jiaoren was carrying him. He only knew that after about fifteen minutes, he was finally put down.
The ground was a jumble of stones. The sudden landing made him unstable, and with the shackles on his body, he swayed. His arm fumbled and found a stone wall, which he held onto to steady himself.
But the texture of this stone wall felt somewhat familiar.
“This is the stone cave that caused you to be punished,” the Jiaoren said, watching Qiu Fuxue’s expression. Seeing that he seemed confused, he explained. “Do you know why Jiufang Cangze was so angry that he almost killed you for coming here?”
Qiu Fuxue felt the patterns on the wall and confirmed that he was touching the stone-carved door in the cave.
“I’m just his prisoner. He doesn’t need a reason to hit me.”
Qiu Fuxue was very self-aware of his status as a captive. Although he occasionally struggled and resisted, he never questioned the reason for his punishments.
This answer made the Jiaoren feel a little helpless and pained. A Pure Spiritual Body, a rare occurrence in a thousand years, always seemed to face more hardships than an ordinary person.
“Behind this door is the demon realm’s underground palace. Inside the palace is where the source of the Nine Evils—the Moon Shadow Wall—is sealed.”
Qiu Fuxue was stunned after hearing this. He said in disbelief, “The Moon Shadow Wall… is here?”
The Nine Evils were ancient malevolent spirits. The Primordial God had created the Moon Shadow Wall to suppress them in the Demon Realm. However, in recent years, the Demon Realm’s invasions of the mortal world had become more frequent. With the emergence of the Butterfly Feather, the immortal sects had gathered to discuss and speculate, and they unanimously believed that the Moon Shadow Wall had likely been destroyed by Jiufang Cangze.
No wonder Jiufang Cangze was so angry when he accidentally stumbled in here.
But the power of the Nine Evils was a more powerful existence for the demons than his Pure Spiritual Body. Since Jiufang Cangze was so obsessed with power, why would he seal the Moon Shadow Wall behind this stone door?
Lost in thought, Qiu Fuxue tightly gripped the intricate patterns on the stone door, his knuckles turning white.
Suddenly, a coolness spread across the back of his hand, and then his five fingers were tightly held by another hand.
“Don’t use so much force. It will hurt.”
Qiu Fuxue’s lips twisted. “It hurt more when you took my eyes.”
The Jiaoren chuckled. After coming ashore, his strong body completely enveloped Qiu Fuxue between himself and the stone door.
He took advantage of Qiu Fuxue’s blindness, his gaze lingering greedily on the other’s face. He finally noticed the beauty mark at the corner of his eye, which emitted more demonic energy than any other place.
“It seems the Demon Lord really likes it here,” the Jiaoren’s finger pressed lightly below Qiu Fuxue’s right eye.
The Jiaoren truly liked this face.
Qiu Fuxue annoyedly turned his head and knocked the other’s hand away. “Don’t touch me.”
This little beauty looked delicate and soft, but his character was very unyielding. The Jiaoren knew it was not yet time to take him by force. He simply laughed off the resistance.
“I want to use you to threaten the Demon Lord into unsealing the Moon Shadow Wall. Do you think it will work?”
Qiu Fuxue had guessed the Jiaoren’s purpose for coming here, but he hadn’t expected him to use him to threaten Jiufang Cangze.
“Are you serious?” Qiu Fuxue opened his lifeless eyes, a sarcastic expression on his face. “I’m afraid he’ll just kill both of us then.”
Jiufang Cangze had traded him for the safety of the Qiannian Sect, and now the Jiaoren wanted to trade him for the Moon Shadow Wall. In his twenty-something years of life, this was the first time Qiu Fuxue realized he was so valuable.
“He might kill me, but he won’t kill you,” the Jiaoren said, his newly grown bare feet stepping on the pile of jagged stones, a slight pain spreading.
He turned his head to look at Qiu Fuxue, whose porcelain-white feet were also bare. He wondered how he could endure running around this demon-infested place.
Suddenly, a fierce murderous intent emerged from behind. The Jiaoren dodged, his body light, and landed gracefully beside Qiu Fuxue.
“Demon Lord, you’ve finally arrived.”
Qiu Fuxue also felt the familiar, overbearing demonic energy. Unfortunately, having lost his sight, he could only stare blankly into the darkness.
Jiufang Cangze instantly saw Qiu Fuxue’s abnormality. He held his long spear and pointed its blade at the smug Jiaoren, his deep voice as cold as an arctic wasteland. “How dare you touch my person? I pulled out too few of your scales last time!”
As if to provoke him, the Jiaoren turned Qiu Fuxue’s face and deliberately blinked his bright eyes. He boasted, “These eyes are so useful. It’s a shame such a beautiful person will be blind from now on.”
Qiu Fuxue, on the other hand, didn’t feel much about it. He took it as it came. Besides, he never planned to live a long life. The reason he tried so hard to escape was only to prevent the schemes of these demons from succeeding.
Jiufang Cangze let out a cold snort. Weapons clashed with hard objects, and the buzzing sound made Qiu Fuxue’s ears ache.
The Jiaoren, now out of the water, was still agile with his new legs. With one hand controlling the blind man as a burden, he still fought effortlessly.
He was, after all, one of the ancient Nine Evils. The fact that he could leave such a large wound on Jiufang Cangze meant his strength was not to be underestimated.
Qiu Fuxue felt like a drifting leaf, moving with the sounds of the fight, with no room to resist. After only a few moves, he suddenly heard a “clang,” and the shackles on his wrists broke.
The leaf finally fell to the ground. Qiu Fuxue fumbled in the air for the other end of the broken chain. The cut was clean, indicating that the two demons had injured him during their fight.
“You ungrateful wretch!” Jiufang Cangze waved his long spear and suddenly cursed. “I gave you the scale for healing, not for you to run off and cause trouble!”
“You…!”
Even though he wasn’t named, Qiu Fuxue knew he was being scolded. However, his master had strictly forbidden him from using profanity. He fumed for a long time but couldn’t think of a comeback.
The Jiaoren raised his hand and blew a water bubble from his palm. It swelled to several times its size, completely encasing Qiu Fuxue. “Look how you’ve bullied the little beauty. His face is all red from anger.”
He sauntered over to the carved stone door, the water bubble following closely. “Demon Lord, the Moon Shadow Wall and the Demon Realm are one. The Nine Evils breaking free will only bring you more benefits. If you agree to release the Moon Shadow Wall today, I will return this little beauty to you. How about that?”
A complete lie!
Qiu Fuxue anxiously beat the inside of the water bubble, but his voice could not get out.
The Jiaoren had just promised to let him go, so why was he now offering to return him to Jiufang Cangze?
The Demon Lord rested his long spear over his shoulder. “I have my own ways of dealing with the Moon Shadow Wall. I don’t need you to meddle!”
“But today, neither your life nor Qiu Fuxue will escape!”
The Jiaoren shook his head regretfully. “Since there’s no room for negotiation, I’ll have to make the little beauty suffer a bit.”
With that, he infused dark purple demonic energy into the water bubble. The bubble seemed to have a barrier. He could hear sounds from outside, but nothing could get out from within.
Qiu Fuxue’s face was suddenly filled with pain. The dark purple demonic energy transformed into countless chains, binding him tightly.
“Ahhh—!”
A bloodcurdling scream echoed in the sealed water bubble. His spiritual orb, which had already been tainted by demonic energy, was now invaded by another power. Qiu Fuxue felt as if his internal organs were being crushed. If he hadn’t been bound by the chains and unable to move, he would have already slammed his head against the hard barrier to end the pain.
Jiufang Cangze glanced at him indifferently, then said with contempt, “Is that all you’ve got? How about I lend you a hand?”
As soon as he spoke, demonic energy controlled by his will brutally charged into Qiu Fuxue’s fragile spiritual orb, fighting against the Jiaoren’s demonic energy.
At the same time, the person who was the vessel suddenly widened his dull eyes, his body convulsing with chains, and he began to vomit large mouthfuls of blood.
Although the sounds from inside could not be heard, judging from the shocking colors, it must have been a miserable and painful sight.
Jiufang Cangze seemed to not care about the life or death of the Pure Spiritual Body at all, cruelly manipulating the demonic energy to fight inside his spiritual orb.
It was only a matter of time before Qiu Fuxue would explode and die from being unable to withstand so much power.
Seeing the person fall unconscious, with blood still constantly pouring from his mouth and nose, the Jiaoren gnashed his teeth and pulled back his own demonic energy, roaring, “Do you want to torture him to death so badly!”
When one side’s power waned, the other would seize the opportunity. Jiufang Cangze used the power from inside Qiu Fuxue to break the barrier. As the Jiaoren came to his senses and tried to stop him, he swung his spear and pierced the Jiaoren’s throat.
A perfect arc of red liquid splattered on the ground. All the actions were completed almost in an instant. The handsome, silver-haired Jiaoren, with wide eyes, lay on his back staring at the sky, his breathing gradually stopping.
Jiufang Cangze effortlessly lifted Qiu Fuxue onto his shoulder, came over to the Jiaoren, dug out the eyes he had stolen, and then disgustedly kicked the corpse aside.
“If all the Nine Evils were as indecisive as you, I wouldn’t have to put so much effort into dealing with them.”
