After Getting Pregnant, I’m Divorcing My Alpha - Chapter 6
That evening, a topic appeared on Weibo’s hot search list #Couple’s Fun#.
Netizens initially thought it was some new trend, but upon clicking, they found that the top trending posts were about revelations concerning Shen Xiao and An Xiangdi.
An Xiangdi lay in bed scrolling through his phone while reading the comments aloud.
“I actually ship them.”
“Why didn’t you say so earlier? I thought they had a contract marriage.”
“So how long have these two known each other?”
“Waiting for more tea.”
Shen Xiao was standing by the window, taking a call from his manager, Hua Jiang. She had contacted him as soon as she saw the hot search, repeatedly reminding him over the phone, “Don’t overdo the hype; let your work speak for itself.”
Whenever he received such calls, Shen Xiao would only respond with silence. It wouldn’t be long before the company’s team stepped in to suppress the hot search.
After hanging up, Shen Xiao heard An Xiangdi mutter quietly, “Did she scold me again?”
Shen Xiao recalled Hua Jiang’s comments about “relationships hindering careers” and shook his head. “No.”
An Xiangdi didn’t believe it. Hua Jiang had always opposed their relationship from the start. As a manager who valued talent above all, she despised hype and firmly believed that relationships would hinder Shen Xiao’s career growth.
Fortunately, Hua Jiang had connections, and Shen Xiao’s exceptional acting skills allowed him to rapidly gain fans with every project, securing his high status in the entertainment industry. But no matter how stable his position, Hua Jiang still disapproved of him.
“What were you reading earlier?” Shen Xiao cleverly changed the subject.
“Weibo comments.” An Xiangdi continued scrolling. CP fans were already sharing old tidbits about the two in the hot search. He was surprised Shen Xiao had been listening to him. “I thought you weren’t paying attention.”
“What did you skip?” Though Shen Xiao had been on the phone, his attention had been on An Xiangdi.
An Xiangdi paused, mechanically repeating, “Damn, holy shit, what the.”
Before he could finish, Shen Xiao pinched his cheek. “Enough.”
An Xiangdi saw the early interviews fans had dug up and, overcome with curiosity, clicked on one. He genuinely wanted to see what he had said all those years ago.
The video was a bit blurry, but it had subtitles.
“You and Shen Xiao debuted around the same time, right? Have you ever considered collaborating?”
“No.”
“Haha, such a decisive answer? So, what are your thoughts on Shen Xiao?”
“He’s annoying.”
Hearing this and seeing his expression from back then, An Xiangdi felt instantly embarrassed. He still couldn’t remember what Shen Xiao had done to provoke that reaction. Looking back now, he felt his younger self had been incredibly immature.
“The night before, you were drunk. I didn’t do anything, and you got angry.” Shen Xiao remembered it clearly.
An Xiangdi’s face flushed bright red. “Get out! I’m going to sleep!”
Ignoring him, Shen Xiao lifted the blanket and wrapped his arms around him. “Warm enough?”
An Xiangdi, who was extremely sensitive to cold and had icy limbs every winter, immediately fell silent as he snuggled closer to the warmth.
Shen Xiao knew An Xiangdi’s weaknesses well. He held his feet, clasped his hands, and closed his eyes only after An Xiangdi had fallen asleep.
Over the next month, An Xiangdi threw himself into filming the research lab scenes. After an intense stretch of shooting, Cao Xuan granted him a day off. The rest of the crew benefited as well, getting a full day to rest.
After discussing it with An Xiangdi, Shen Xiao decided they would go home for a visit.
Carrying several large bags of groceries, Shen Xiao pushed open the door to his home and headed straight to the kitchen to start preparing the ingredients. An Xiangdi, with nothing else to do, spent some time in the music room composing songs.
“What brings you here?” Shen Xiao had just finished cooking two dishes when he noticed An Xiangdi standing at the kitchen doorway with his arms crossed.
“Just lending a hand.” An Xiangdi rarely stepped into the kitchen. For one, his parents had always doted on him and never let him touch pots and pans. For another, he truly had no talent for cooking.
On Shen Xiao’s 18th birthday, An Xiangdi had ventured into the kitchen for the first time in his life, sneaking behind his parents’ backs to learn how to bake a cake from the family chef. In the end, not only did the cake fail, but even the cake base exploded. Since then, his family had strictly forbidden him from touching anything in the kitchen.
Shen Xiao didn’t stop him either, watching as An Xiangdi picked up an ear of corn and crouched down. “Peel off the outer husk, break off the stem, and soak it in water.”
“Aren’t we shucking the kernels?” An Xiangdi thought he was going to make something like corn and chicken stir-fry.
“No, this is for making sweet soup.”
“Oh.” With no further role to play, An Xiangdi simply crouched down and started plucking the corn silk.
Just then, his phone rang in the living room. An Xiangdi clapped his hands clean and walked out. Glancing at the caller ID, he saw it was his good friend Wei Yi.
“Hello.”
“Dizi! I heard from the security guard at the entrance that you’re back today?” Wei Yi’s tone was light and full of energy.
“Just taking a day off.”
“Then I’m coming over for a meal!” Wei Yi’s voice was already accompanied by the sound of a door opening and closing, clearly indicating he had grabbed his phone and dashed out.
An Xiangdi was about to say something else, but the other had already hung up.
“Who was it?”
“Wei Yi. He said he’s coming over for a meal.” An Xiangdi returned to the kitchen.
He had met Wei Yi not long after entering the entertainment industry. Wei Yi was an Alpha with a lively, unpredictable personality, often breaking conventional norms. He was a regular star on many popular variety shows.
An Xiangdi wasn’t particularly good at dealing with people like him, as no matter what he said, Wei Yi would brush it off with vague responses thick-skinned and utterly unaware of it. But Wei Yi had helped him in the past, and in the murky waters of the entertainment industry, the two had unknowingly become good friends.
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang. Wei Yi lived in the same residential complex as An Xiangdi and Shen Xiao, just in the neighboring building.
An Xiangdi was about to go open the door when Shen Xiao stopped him. “I’ll get it.”
An Xiangdi didn’t think much of it. “Okay,” he replied, continuing to pluck the corn silk.
Wei Yi was overjoyed. He absolutely loved the food at An Xiangdi’s place it was miles better than takeout. If he ignored the fact that Shen Xiao was the one cooking, it would be a perfect ten.
But the person who opened the door for him was Shen Xiao.
Standing at 191 cm tall, Shen Xiao loomed over Wei Yi, who, as an Alpha, was not particularly tall himself. Wei Yi froze.
“Long time no see.” Shen Xiao’s gaze was intense, his brandy-scented pheromones filling the air with a clear message of dominance and warning.
Even though he had anticipated the other’s hostility, Wei Yi was still somewhat overwhelmed and took a step back. His own pheromones were nowhere near as overpowering as Shen Xiao’s. “It has been a while. Where’s Dizi?”
“He’s cooking.” With that, Shen Xiao turned and walked back to the kitchen.
Wei Yi let out an “Ah!” “No way! I’m not eating anything he makes!”
“What do you mean, you won’t eat what I make?” An Xiangdi stood holding a freshly de-silked ear of corn, his gaze sharp. “I’m condescending to cook, and you dare complain while freeloading a meal?”
Wei Yi quickly shook his head. “No, no, no, I wouldn’t dare. I’m truly unworthy.”
“Next time, I’ll cook myself. This time, it’s Shen Xiao’s turn. If you dare say ‘no,’ I’ll knock your teeth out.” An Xiangdi finished speaking and tossed the corn cob into the basin.
Wei Yi swallowed his grievances. As an Alpha himself, he’d rather endure the humiliation and act like a quail than risk offending them over a meal.
An hour later, Shen Xiao brought the dishes to the table, setting out the chopsticks and bowls.
At first, Wei Yi was completely captivated by the aroma of the food and didn’t notice anything amiss. Only after sitting down did he realize that all the vegetarian dishes were placed in front of him, while the meat dishes were positioned near An Xiangdi. Moreover, the vegetarian dishes were served in large bowls, obscuring most of the meat dishes.
There was no doubt Shen Xiao had done it on purpose.
But since he was eating their food, Wei Yi knew better than to complain. He quietly ate his meal and made small talk with An Xiangdi.
“A few days ago, a variety show reached out to me. Thankfully, my agent turned it down.”
“What kind of variety show?” Although An Xiangdi primarily focused on singing and acting, he was no stranger to variety shows.
“It’s a new one an outdoor survival show. They dump the guests on a deserted island for two weeks.” Wei Yi exaggerated, “You have no idea, I heard the place is crawling with bugs, and there’s barely any food or water.”
An Xiangdi laughed unkindly. Wei Yi, despite being an Alpha, was more afraid of bugs than most delicate Omegas.
“Hey! Don’t laugh.” Flustered, Wei Yi unconsciously released a bit more of his pheromones.
An Xiangdi felt uncomfortable a familiar and unpleasant sensation. Under the table, he kicked Wei Yi. “Pheromones.”
“Ah Sorry, sorry.” Wei Yi quickly apologized. An Xiangdi had mentioned before that he disliked Alpha pheromones except for Shen Xiao’s.
As the discomfort faded, An Xiangdi focused on his meal, rarely responding to Wei Yi’s continued chatter.
Wei Yi didn’t seem to mind the silence and kept himself entertained for a long time.
The ringing of a phone on the table finally interrupted Wei Yi’s incessant talking.
An Xiangdi stared at the unfamiliar number, silent for a moment before standing up. “I need to take this call.”
“Mm.” Shen Xiao nodded, his gaze following An Xiangdi until he stepped out onto the balcony.
Leaning against the balcony railing, An Xiangdi pressed the answer button, his lips pressed tightly together as he watched a stray kitten occasionally dart out from the bushes below.
“Mr. An Xiangdi, this is the Omega Rehabilitation Center. You’re scheduled for a follow-up examination in one week.” The person on the other end waited briefly, and when no response came, repeated the message.
“I remember.” After a long pause, An Xiangdi finally replied.
“I’m calling to confirm the appointment time. It’s set for next Saturday at 2 p.m. Does that work for you?”
“Can it be scheduled for 5 p.m.? I won’t be able to make it until after I finish work on Saturday.” Considering his filming schedule, leaving too early would raise questions.
“Let me check” The person on the other end clicked the mouse for a moment before nodding. “Yes, that should be fine.”
“Okay.”
“Then next Saturday at 5 p.m., please make sure to arrive on time. Remember to rest well recently, as we’ll need to draw blood for the examination.”
“Alright.”
Hanging up the phone, An Xiangdi let out a heavy sigh.
“Did something happen?” A sudden voice made An Xiangdi tense up.
He turned stiffly to see Shen Xiao standing a few steps away, as if he might step forward at any moment. “You.”
“I came to get two bottles of wine.” Shen Xiao pointed toward the small wine cabinet in the master bedroom.
“Nothing serious, just a scam call. I tricked him that guy must be cursing me to death by now.” An Xiangdi’s palms were sweaty, his phone nearly slipping from his grasp.
“Glad you’re alright.” Shen Xiao curved his lips slightly and didn’t ask further.
