After Flirting with the God-Tier Beautiful Tycoon - Chapter 2
“How is it? Does it taste good?”
The girl with the straight bangs who spoke was Sun Jiabao, Shen Xiaojiang’s best friend.
They were both second-year students majoring in Computer Science at Nancheng University.
The difference was that Shen Xiaojiang was the top student, and Sun Jiabao was the underachiever.
Shen Xiaojiang put the thing Sun Jiabao gave her into her mouth, chewed symbolically twice, and her face showed difficulty. “What is this?”
Sun Jiabao shook the packaging bag in her hand, displaying a triumphant expression. “Sugar free fruit drops recommended by the dentist. The minimal sweetness mainly comes from xylitol and erythritol. It’s good for your teeth…”
“Wait,” Shen Xiaojiang turned her head and spat out the candy. “Does this thing even count as candy?”
With that, she took a strawberry flavored lollipop from her pocket, tore off the wrapper in two quick moves, glanced sideways at Sun Jiabao, and flashed a smile of relief. “My motto sugar that isn’t sweet is poison…”
“Oh, alright, alright, a knife that doesn’t kill is just a hooliganism,” Sun Jiabao pouted. “Have it your way. Let’s see how smug you are when all your teeth fall out.”
The two of them walked along in the enchanting sunset of the port, dyed in brilliant colors.
The Croatia was approaching Shen Xiaojiang and Sun Jiabao rapidly.
“Wow, so luxurious!” Sun Jiabao’s eyes widened, like a cat spotting something shiny and moving.
Shen Xiaojiang expressed disdain. “What is it?”
“Over there, over there, it’s coming toward us, the Croatia!” Sun Jiabao had a round face, and with her eyes wide open, her entire face looked round.
“A boat?” Shen Xiaojiang replied lukewarmly.
“This is a private yacht!” Sun Jiabao shook her head.
“Hmm, it’s also a kind of boat.” Shen Xiaojiang retracted her gaze.
“Sister, this isn’t just any boat. Haven’t you noticed, it has two words written all over it…Expensive!”
Sun Jiabao raised her right hand, making a peace sign with her index and middle fingers.
Shen Xiaojiang looked at Sun Jiabao’s two fingers and said slowly, “Sister, ‘expensive’ is one word.”
Sun Jiabao tightly furrowed her brows and vigorously shook her hand. “That’s not the point! I heard my dad mention it. Tsk tsk tsk, nine figures, man!”
Shen Xiaojiang shook her head, smiling faintly, but didn’t say anything.
“Hey, Ginger!” Sun Jiabao shoved her hand in front of Shen Xiaojiang. “Anyone who can be associated with the Croatia is no ordinary person!”
Shen Xiaojiang was calm. “So?”
Sun Jiabao was stunned.
She knew Shen Xiaojiang wasn’t materialistic and had no interest in money, but… wasn’t she too indifferent?
Shen Xiaojiang shrugged, her gaze shifting away.
Given Shen Xiaojiang’s good looks, Sun Jiabao magnanimously chose to forgive her.
She patted Shen Xiaojiang’s arm. “Hey, you space out right when I get to the important part. I have no idea how you managed to be the top of your class all these years!”
Shen Xiaojiang remained silent.
She never delved into such irrelevant questions.
Suddenly, Sun Jiabao folded her arms and said with a ‘tsk,’ “Could it be that you don’t know about the Croatia?”
Shen Xiaojiang was bewildered. “Why should I know…”
Sun Jiabao pulled a pink mini-comb from her cross body canvas bag, meticulously combed her straight bangs, and said seriously, “Come, come, come, let your sister educate you.”
“The Croatia is the absolute top among luxury private yachts, known as the ‘Golden Mountain on the Sea.’ It symbolizes power and status. Only one is custom-made privately each year, and it’s not something you can buy just with money. The only one registered in Nancheng is under the name of Chairman Bai, the old man of Kaihua Group. Perhaps, maybe, just maybe, this is the one!”
Sun Jiabao became more and more excited as she spoke.
However, Shen Xiaojiang had already walked two meters away, leaning against the port’s iron railing, blending into the sunset glow, as quiet as a statue.
The massive red sun had been mostly swallowed by the sea horizon, and the crimson glow stained the entire sea area.
“Shen Xiaojiang! I’ve been talking so much, are you even listening?” Sun Jiabao said while walking over, feigning anger.
Seeing that Shen Xiaojiang didn’t respond, Sun Jiabao stomped her foot hard and yelled, “Gin…ger!”
“Hiss!” Shen Xiaojiang squinted. “My dear grandmother, when did you learn the Lion’s Roar? Why didn’t I know??”
“I’ll spray you with a mouthful of canteen dishwater!”
Sun Jiabao combed her bangs again, shocked. “You’re actually not interested in the Golden Mountain!”
“It’s not mine,” Shen Xiaojiang said. “Can we talk about something practical?”
Sun Jiabao pouted. “Tomorrow night is my birthday party. Are you interested?”
Shen Xiaojiang replied lightly, “It’s alright.”
Sun Jiabao squealed like a pig, so angry she wanted to pinch her philtrum. “What do you mean ‘it’s alright’? Are you going or not?”
Shen Xiaojiang smiled. “Depends on my mood.”
By the time they returned to the school, the hot water supply time had passed.
Shen Xiaojiang and Sun Jiabao dashed toward the cafeteria, carrying two red thermos bottles.
“This lousy dorm is annoying the hot water stops at ten!” After putting down the thermos, Sun Jiabao pulled out her ever present small comb.
While Sun Jiabao was combing her bangs, Shen Xiaojiang had already gotten her water.
“Ginger, you’re so good. I love you.”
“Get lost.” Faced with Sun Jiabao’s insincere declaration, Shen Xiaojiang felt two eye-rolls weren’t enough.
“Let’s go,” she said.
Sun Jiabao patted Shen Xiaojiang’s shoulder, grinning. “Ginger, you’re actually quite virtuous. If your temper was just a tiny bit better, with your looks, the upperclassmen and younger students chasing you would line up from here to the academic building!”
“Stop! Spare me. Men, that species, are too much trouble.” Shen Xiaojiang nudged her shoulder, breaking free from Sun Jiabao’s hand.
“Why do you think that, too? You’re exactly like my little aunt. My mom said this isn’t good…”
Before Sun Jiabao could finish, Shen Xiaojiang took the thermos from her hand. “The dorm is closing soon. If you don’t want to be locked out, shut up and hurry up.”
“Oh, studying is so annoying!”
Sun Jiabao, clutching the comb, followed behind Shen Xiaojiang, chattering endlessly like a magpie. “Good Ginger, let’s rent an apartment next semester!”
Shen Xiaojiang wasn’t a local of Nancheng. Her hometown was in Haishi, a four hour drive away.
Sun Jiabao was a local. Her parents ran a chain of supermarkets, making her a minor second generation rich.
“Why waste money? You can just go home,” Shen Xiaojiang had slender limbs, but she carried a thermos in each hand and could talk while climbing the stairs without panting.
Sun Jiabao looked like she was about to die, resting against the wall. “I can’t bear to leave you. After all, with me around, I can help you out a bit.”
Looking at the two thermoses in her own hands, Shen Xiaojiang shook her head helplessly. “I really thank you for that.”
After ten o’clock at night was the busiest time at “Venus.”
After returning from the port, Chen Yi changed into a wine-red cheongsam.
“Venus” was not a bar in the usual sense.
Unlike the drinking area on the first floor, the private rooms on the second floor gathered celebrities from various fields every day under different pretexts.
Chen Yi had a guest today. This guest was ostensibly there to drink but was actually there to fish for favors.
Though she knew this perfectly well, Chen Yi would still entertain him lavishly.
To her, this kind of thing was just going through the motions, something she was used to.
For the position of the Chamber of Commerce chairman, she had to court some people with status and influence, and she couldn’t save this money.
“Mr. Fu, watch your step.” Chen Yi supported a man with an oily face, smiling brightly and playfully.
“Thank you for the hospitality, Seventh Mistress. I’ve long heard that the best wine in all of Nancheng is at the ‘Venus’ bar!” The man’s surname was Fu. He was the Chief Financial Officer of the Kaihua Group and a close confidant of Old Man Bai.
“If Mr. Fu likes it, then Little Qi is relieved.” When Chen Yi smiled, she was the epitome of a charming beauty, gentle, intellectual, and approachable.
But when she didn’t smile, she exuded a cold aloofness and a hidden ferocity that kept people at a distance.
The man was drunk, his eyes vulgar, and he deliberately moved closer. “Seventh Mistress, during the Chamber of Commerce chairman election, I will handle things appropriately.”
The smell of smoke and alcohol hit her face.
Chen Yi’s brow furrowed slightly but quickly smoothed out again. She smiled. “Mr. Fu, didn’t we agree that we wouldn’t talk about work today? This is just old friends enjoying a drink, right?”
The man raised his hand to wipe his mouth, his eyes sweeping over Chen Yi without restraint. After a few seconds, he nodded vigorously. “Right, right, right. Enjoying a drink. Absolutely right.”
He then let out a burp.
Chen Yi’s smile seemed welded to her face, always as radiant as a flower.
Upon reaching the bar entrance, Chen Yi made a gesture. “Mr. Fu, this is the designated driver I found for you. The gifts I prepared for you are in the trunk.”
“Oh, how can I accept this?” the man declined verbally, but his eyes couldn’t hide his greed. “We are all working for Old Man Bai. Seventh Mistress, don’t worry, I will definitely vote for you in the chairman election.”
Chen Yi swayed her extremely slim waist, fiddling with the white jade bracelet on her wrist, and said coyly, “Then, I am indebted to you, Mr. Fu.”
“We’re all family. Why talk about being indebted…” The man reached out his ‘salty pig’ hand and patted Chen Yi’s hand.
After that, Chen Yi didn’t hear what he said, nor did she want to hear it anymore.
Her goal had been achieved.
She looked at the hand that had been touched, feeling a prickly numbness, as if countless ants were nibbling at that patch of skin.
She had a pounding headache and felt uncomfortable all over.
But she couldn’t show it.
The car sped away, leaving behind a pungent smell of exhaust.
“Pah! What kind of jerk is that, daring to say he’s family with our Seventh Mistress!” He Zhong ground his teeth in anger.
The smile on Chen Yi’s face instantly vanished, and she became suddenly ice cold.
She slightly turned her head, the murderous intent in her eyes completely unconcealed.
He Zhong immediately handed over the prepared disinfectant wipe.
Chen Yi took the wipe, turned around, and calmly said while wiping her hand, “Don’t waste emotion on people like that. It’s not worth it.”
He Zhong understood, and then whispered, “Oh, right, Seventh Mistress, I have already sent someone to investigate. The girl who went to the port with Miss Sun Jiabao this evening currently shows no suspicious aspects.”
Chen Yi didn’t speak, her hand turning red from rubbing.
If she could, she might have used a small knife to cut off that piece of skin.
He Zhong looked at Chen Yi’s action, and the words caught in his throat.
“Continue.”
He Zhong took the order and quickly recited his findings. “That girl is called Shen Xiaojiang, an only child, with ordinary family conditions and no special background. Her father is a high school physical education teacher, and her mother is an accountant at a small company. Aside from school and her part-time job, she generally doesn’t go anywhere else. It looks like she is simply Miss Sun’s roommate.”
“Jiabao doesn’t understand anything and is the easiest to be exploited by those with ulterior motives,” Chen Yi threw the used wipe into the trash bin. “The Chamber of Commerce election is imminent. I will not allow anyone to ruin my plan. Keep monitoring.”
He Zhong nodded and whispered, “Miss Jiabao’s birthday party is tomorrow night. I wonder if this Shen Xiaojiang will show up.”
Chen Yi slowly stepped onto the stairs, the edge of her high-slit cheongsam gently swaying with her movements, revealing the smooth lines of her fair, round calves.
“A birthday party?” Chen Yi’s narrow, phoenix like eyes slightly narrowed. “Prepare for it. I will attend.”
With that, she disappeared into the rose colored light and shadow.
Only a faint lingering fragrance remained in the air.
