After Flirting with the God-Tier Beautiful Tycoon - Chapter 16
Chen Yi’s eyes were a very light amber, bright and captivating under the light from the ceiling.
After she finished speaking, she paused, wondering why she had said that.
An electric glass door separated the queuing hall from the consultation room. Outside the door, two masked nurses were responsible for checking the queue numbers.
The door opened, then closed.
A draft, neither hurried nor slow, swept across Shen Xiaojiang’s heart.
Chen Yi stood in the center of the wind. The gentle breeze lifted her hair, exposing the fair skin where her ear met her neck.
She was enveloped by the wind, the hem of her skirt lifted slightly, like a pure white lotus silently being touched, its faint fragrance slowly emanating from the pistil, refreshing and comforting.
It was like a quilt that had just been sun dried, with the clean scent of sunshine.
She had an extremely aggressive appearance, yet she was gentle in a way that made people feel sorry for her.
“Okay, I’ll go with you.” Shen Xiaojiang snapped back to attention, looked into Chen Yi’s eyes, nodded, and tossed away the half-eaten lollipop.
The two walked into the consultation room, one after the other.
The doctor was a middle-aged man wearing thick glasses.
He looked at Chen Yi, then at Shen Xiaojiang, “Who is getting the shot?”
Chen Yi nodded and quietly opened her mouth, “Me.”
It was clear that the tone she used with the doctor was completely different from the one she used with Shen Xiaojiang.
There was only one chair in front of the doctor. Chen Yi’s hand was inconvenient, so Shen Xiaojiang quickly pulled it out for her.
Chen Yi glanced at her, said nothing, and sat down obediently.
The doctor asked a few simple questions, and then prepared to administer the injection.
“Take off your jacket,” the doctor said before turning around to pull open a curtain. “Come inside and sit down.”
Chen Yi’s brow furrowed slightly when she heard the doctor’s words, but it quickly smoothed out.
“Are there no female doctors?” Shen Xiaojiang asked while glancing towards the door.
In her hometown, you didn’t necessarily have to register at a hospital for a rabies vaccine; you could get it at the Maternal and Child Health Center, where most doctors were female.
It wasn’t prejudice; this was probably Shen Xiaojiang’s stereotype of male doctors.
She felt they might be a bit heavy-handed.
“The only female doctor in the infectious disease department is off today,” the male doctor said, syringe in hand, completely unfazed.
Chen Yi was calm and was about to take off her jacket.
“Wait, wait,” Shen Xiaojiang stopped her. “Doctor, can she keep her jacket on?”
The doctor shook his head, “The injection site is on the upper arm.”
“Her cardigan is very loose, and her arms are very slender, it’ll be fine,” Shen Xiaojiang’s eyes were sincere.
The doctor didn’t object.
Chen Yi was stunned for a second, then pursed her lips and smiled faintly.
She got up and walked a couple of steps, then looked back at Shen Xiaojiang.
For some reason, Shen Xiaojiang saw vulnerability and helplessness in Chen Yi’s eyes.
Then, without another word, she followed her over.
The doctor pushed up his glasses and grumbled in an old-fashioned tone, “Unnecessary people wait outside.”
Shen Xiaojiang was unperturbed, raised her hand, and pulled the blue curtain shut, grinning, “I’m not unnecessary. She’s my aunt.”
Before the doctor could say anything more, Shen Xiaojiang insisted that Chen Yi not take off her jacket. As she helped Chen Yi roll up her sleeve, she said, “She’s timid, I can’t leave her alone.”
Chen Yi’s heart skipped a beat. A stone had been thrown into the originally calm lake, and ripples spread out in circles.
For so many years, she had always been alone.
The doctor gave up and stopped trying to drive people out.
He took a cotton swab, dipped it in iodine, and disinfected Chen Yi’s wound.
Shen Xiaojiang bent down, staring intently at the doctor’s hand, “Please be gentle.”
The doctor’s hand trembled slightly, and he pouted with an impatient expression.
After the wound was treated, Shen Xiaojiang subconsciously reached out to help Chen Yi press down on the sterile patch.
Chen Yi looked at her lowered profile and pulled at the corner of her mouth slightly.
This “little friend” seemed to be treating her like a little friend too.
After getting the rabies vaccine, Chen Yi covered her arm, a look of difficulty on her face.
“The medication has been improved now, but clinical data shows that quite a few people experience varying degrees of discomfort after getting the rabies vaccine,” Shen Xiaojiang explained. “I work part-time at a pet store, so I know a little.”
Chen Yi didn’t speak. Her beautiful phoenix eyes fluttered, watching the person in front of her like an attentive elementary school student.
Quite adorable.
Shen Xiaojiang glanced at her, then cleared her throat.
“Uh… for instance, dizziness, nausea, allergic rashes, or even fever and fainting,” Shen Xiaojiang motioned for Chen Yi to look at the precautions posted in the hallway: “Auntie, look, you can take pictures of these…”
“I want to hear you talk about it.” Chen Yi didn’t look at the poster on the wall at all.
Shen Xiaojiang was surprised.
Chen Yi blinked twice, her brow slightly furrowed, and she said in a weak, soft voice, “I… I feel dizzy looking at these words. I wonder if it’s because of the shot.”
“Oh, it’s possible. Alright, I’ll explain it simply to you,” Shen Xiaojiang believed her and read out, “Avoid strong tea, coffee, seafood, smoking, and alcohol. Do not eat irritating foods, and try to avoid strenuous exercise.”
As soon as she finished speaking, Shen Xiaojiang turned around and said earnestly, “Also, also, you must drink plenty of water.”
Perhaps because of the lollipop, Shen Xiaojiang’s breath carried a faint strawberry scent, and these cold, clinical instructions sounded sweet coming from her mouth.
Chen Yi was distracted, her expression looking somewhat… dazed but cute.
Shen Xiaojiang couldn’t help but look at her again.
Then, she raised her voice, “Auntie, do you understand?”
Chen Yi glanced at Shen Xiaojiang’s glasses, then lowered her gaze, her amber eyes slowly circling in her sockets.
Then, she nodded and let out a soft “Mhm.”
Chen Yi was required to stay for observation for half an hour.
During this time, she decided to visit He Zhong’s mother in the inpatient department.
He Zhong’s mother had been transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the SVIP suite on the twelfth floor, a few rooms away from Sister Meng.
Originally, Shen Xiaojiang wanted to go with Chen Yi, but she had a customer at the store and had to leave.
After parting with Shen Xiaojiang, Chen Yi’s expression immediately changed.
To get to He Zhong’s mother’s room, she had to pass Sister Meng’s first.
Chen Yi stopped at Sister Meng’s door, recalling what Shen Xiaojiang had said.
However, the point she was interested in wasn’t the relationship between Sister Meng and the scumbag, but Sister Meng’s perception of Shen Xiaojiang.
She steadied herself and touched the wound covered by the sterile patch. The warmth of Shen Xiaojiang’s fingertips seemed to still be there.
A few seconds later, she pushed the door open and walked into Sister Meng’s room.
She left half an hour later.
“Seventh Mistress, why are you here?” He Zhong immediately attended to Chen Yi upon seeing her.
He knew Chen Yi well. Dressing so casually meant she must have come straight from home.
Last night, after Chen Yi dropped Shen Xiaojiang back at school, she didn’t return to the hotel but went drinking with a few partners.
To avoid being taken advantage of, Chen Yi had to use all her wits to deal with them.
The drinking ended at 2 a.m. By all accounts, she shouldn’t have shown up so early today.
“Got scratched by a cat, came for a rabies vaccine.” Chen Yi spoke plainly.
He Zhong glanced at the sterile patch on her hand but didn’t pry.
Following He Zhong’s gaze, Chen Yi raised her hand, quickly tore off the sterile patch, and tossed it into the trash can.
She, the Seventh Mistress Chen, never needed such a thing.
In those former days of living by the sword, being stabbed and bled by people, she hadn’t even blinked.
She didn’t hurt or feel bad, just like a robot.
“How is your mother?” Chen Yi took the cigarette He Zhong offered her and loosely held it between her fingers.
He Zhong looked at the closed ward door, “Nothing serious, just needs a period of rest.”
“Mhm. If you need more money, tell me.”
He Zhong lit Chen Yi’s cigarette. “It’s enough, Seventh Mistress, thank you so much. Once my mother is better, I’ll have her make you soup again.”
Chen Yi didn’t speak.
She and He Zhong had known each other for a long time, having survived countless days of fighting and bloodshed together.
He Zhong’s mother never judged whether what they did was right or wrong. Every time she saw Chen Yi, covered in wounds, brought home by He Zhong, she would just grab her shopping basket and run to the market, returning to simmer a pot of corn and pork rib soup for her.
Once, Chen Yi lost a shoe.
The silvery white smoke drifted in the wind. Chen Yi thought of Shen Xiaojiang, and quickly put out the cigarette.
“Seventh Mistress, this is the smoking area.” He Zhong was astonished.
Even if it was due to the post-rabies vaccine precautions, it didn’t make sense, because Chen Yi was never one to follow medical advice.
“I’m quitting smoking,” she replied.
“Huh?” He Zhong was startled.
She’s been smoking for over ten years; how could she quit so easily?
“Seventh Mistress, suddenly quitting smoking can cause withdrawal symptoms, it’s very painful.” He Zhong looked concerned.
Smokers are dependent on the high brought by nicotine, getting addicted and lost in moments of transcendence.
Chen Yi looked into the distance, her tone flat, “I just need to find something else to get addicted to.”
He Zhong blinked.
Lately, Chen Yi had been talking more, and sometimes even showed a bit more human warmth than before.
“Such as…” he asked.
Chen Yi didn’t look at him, “Lollipops.”
