After Falling for the Handsome CEO - Chapter 11
Chapter 11: Encountering a Thief
Shen Jin simply smiled at the young girl’s enthusiastic praise for her brother. It reminded him of his own sister, Shen Lian; she used to be just like that—whenever she spoke about her brother to others, she would look incredibly happy and never stop complimenting him.
Bai Mu was a bright and studious girl. She had built a solid academic foundation from a young age, so learning came easily to her, and Shen Jin found teaching her to be a breeze. The two of them got along famously.
Because of this, even though he was a man of ordinary status, the Bai family treated him quite well.
Shen Jin tutored her until past nine o’clock, yet there was still no sign of her so-called brother. He couldn’t help but feel a bit puzzled; he had originally intended to stay a moment to offer a polite greeting.
“That’s strange. Brother clearly said he’d be back today, so why isn’t he here yet?” Bai Mu frowned, her eyes constantly darting toward the door. “He broke his word. Do you know how late it is? How rude!”
“Maybe your brother is just busy.” Shen Jin chuckled. It was just about time for the lesson to end, and Bai Mu didn’t have any more questions for the day.
He packed up his teaching materials and offered a smiling goodbye to Madam Bai before heading out to retrieve his bicycle. But when he reached the spot, the bike was gone!
Gone! Gone! How could it be gone?!
Shen Jin always left his bicycle at the Bai estate without locking it. After all, it was just a beat-up old bike; it wasn’t as if anyone would bother stealing it. And yet, it was nowhere to be found!
Could it be… that someone from the Bai household actually stole it?
Shen Jin froze for three seconds before quickly slapping his own forehead to wake himself up. What kind of nonsense am I thinking…
He paced around the area where he usually parked, wondering if he had simply put it in the wrong place. However, while everything else was there, his bicycle was conspicuously absent.
“What’s going on?” Shen Jin frowned, utterly bewildered. Usually, nothing ever happened; neither the Bai family nor the servants would even touch it.
Today was truly strange.
Screeeech—
Just as he was puzzling over it, the sound of brakes echoed from outside the Bai estate. Shen Jin immediately recognized that sound—it was the specific screech the tires made against the pavement whenever his rickety old bike came to a halt.
Shen Jin’s face filled with shock.
Good heavens. In the middle of the night, someone had actually snuck into the Bai estate specifically to steal his piece-of-junk bicycle?!
Was it because the night was too dark and the thief had mistakenly hallucinated that his rusty bike was made of solid diamonds?
Otherwise, why would they ignore the vast wealth of the Bai family and target his bike instead?!
At this thought, Shen Jin adjusted his bag and, regardless of the consequences, charged out—
“Sss…” After just a few steps, he immediately grabbed onto the gate for support, sucking in a breath of cold air. He had forgotten that his current physical condition wasn’t exactly suited for such intense exercise.
He focused his gaze and spotted the culprit who had taken his bike. He could vaguely see a silhouette leisurely riding his bicycle and even whistling. The night breeze ruffled the person’s hair; he looked remarkably relaxed.
Shen Jin’s pupils dilated. It was his first time seeing a thief act with such casual leisure!
He wanted to shout, but he was afraid of startling the thief into pedaling away at top speed. In his desperation, he simply grabbed a wooden stick and began to follow silently—
His plan was to tail the thief, knock him unconscious from behind, and haul him straight to the police station!
