After Faking Her Death, the Top Actress Gets Amnesia - Chapter 3
Chapter 3
“Three, two, one, action!”
Dressed in a white robe stained with blood, Jiang Wendu stood in front of a blue screen, her eyes resolute. “I, Jiang Huaiyin, Master of All Flowers, will kneel to the common people and to the gods, but I will not kneel to you, the Way of Heaven! You, the cold and heartless Way of Heaven!”
Then, she was struck by “heaven’s lightning.” Her body couldn’t bear it, and she half-knelt on the ground, one hand propped on the floor, stubbornly looking up.
Before long, another bolt of “lightning” struck down. She cried out in pain, falling and screaming over and over, immersed in the agony of the former Flower Goddess, Jiang Huaiyin, as she endured her punishment.
“Take four, here we go…” A staff member directed from the side.
Jiang Wendu cried out again, collapsing to the ground. Finally, she was lifted by wires, lowered, lifted, and lowered. After several rounds, her body was set back down on the ground, her clothes disheveled, her hair a mess, and blood gushing from her mouth.
The director gave a thumbs-up from beside the camera. “Perfect, perfect! Excellent!”
As a staff member let out a cry, a man in a green robe holding a jade sword walked over from the side, stood in front of Jiang Wendu, and asked in a trembling voice, “A’yin, is it so difficult for you to just admit your mistake?”
Jiang Wendu struggled for a moment, then stumbled to her hands and knees. Her eyes were firm and determined. “Lu Yanchi, please tell me, what wrong have I, Jiang Huaiyin, committed?”
The two stared at each other. After a half-second standoff, tears and reluctance welled up in the man’s long, narrow eyes.
He closed his eyes in agony, tilting his head back, allowing tears to stream down his face. Finally, he mustered all his courage, raised his jade sword, and aimed it at Jiang Wendu’s neck.
In the next second, a long spear came out of nowhere and knocked the man’s jade sword to the ground. With the sound of the sword breaking, a voice as cold as ice shards appeared: “Even if she’s made a mistake, it’s not up to the likes of you to judge her!”
Jiang Wendu: Huh? Is that line in the script?
The director and the entire crew: ???
Before they could react, a woman in ancient armor, covered in blood, entered the set. She strode over to Jiang Wendu in a few steps, picked her up from the ground, and held her in her arms, anxiously checking her for wounds.
Everyone was confused. What’s going on? Did she wander onto the wrong set?
Jiang Wendu was a little bewildered. Her clear, affectionate eyes looked at the person in front of her. “Is this line… a later addition?”
The woman in the armor didn’t respond. Instead, she loudly called out Jiang Wendu’s name from the real world: “Jiang, Wen, Du!”
Yi Lan’s eyes were filled with a hatred that was even more convincing than Jiang Wendu’s performance as the Flower Goddess. Her chest heaved, her shoulders trembled slightly, and her teeth were so tightly clenched that she looked as if she wanted to devour Jiang Wendu alive.
Jiang Wendu became even more confused. She turned to the director, who shook his head. Only then did she step out of the woman’s grasp, stand up, and offer a good-natured smile as she explained: “Did you come to the wrong set? This is the set for The Flower Journey.”
Seeing her so calm and smiling as if nothing had happened, the resentment in Yi Lan’s heart instantly peaked. She suddenly picked up the long spear from the ground and pointed it at Jiang Wendu’s neck. “Jiang Wendu, don’t play dumb with me! Today, this General will take your head to atone for the seventy thousand brave souls who died!”
Jiang Wendu: ?
Although she was confused, the pain on her neck from the spear was real. Her body’s natural fear made her unable to move.
At that moment, the director walked over to shoo the woman away. “Hey, what crew are you from? We’ve worked so hard to film the ending, and you’re ruining it like this…”
Before he could finish, Yi Lan delivered a side kick, sending him sprawling. The spear at Jiang Wendu’s neck instantly moved to the director’s chest. Just as she was about to use force to pierce him, the mechanical voice suddenly appeared in her mind: “Host, you must not.”
Yi Lan instantly held back her strength, glaring furiously at the person in front of her.
“Host, this is the set of The Flower Journey. The person in front of you is the director. We cannot afford to injure them.”
The system had been working for 12 hours straight and had finally located the mission target’s work address. It had no idea that a moment of carelessness would allow the host to slip away.
Fortunately, Yi Lan had gotten somewhat used to the mechanical voice during their time together. Although she didn’t understand “film set” or “director,” the voice was telling her not to hurt this person, so there must be a reason. Of course, she herself didn’t want to get tangled up with irrelevant people.
She hadn’t eaten or drunk for an entire day and night, riding a “shared bicycle” and enduring great hardships to get here, all just to seek revenge on Jiang Wendu. Now that Jiang Wendu was right in front of her, she had to kill her herself to give her fallen soldiers an explanation.
So, she moved the spear from the director’s chest and once again pointed it at Jiang Wendu.
At that moment, the crew members came to their senses and hurried forward to stop her. “Hey, what are you doing? Let’s talk this out. Don’t do anything rash!”
Yi Lan’s hand holding the spear was trembling. Her firm, cold eyes were tinged with a hint of crimson. No matter how many times she tried, she just couldn’t bring herself to be ruthless with this woman.
“Jiang Wendu, Jiang Wendu…” She kept repeating her name. Her tears, against her will, began to swirl, and the question in her voice gained a trembling, pleading quality: “Why? Tell me, why?!”
Jiang Wendu was terrified, but facing those red-rimmed eyes, she felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity. This feeling prompted her to take a few steps forward.
In close proximity, she saw that the other woman’s lips were pale, and her hands and armor were covered in dried blood and dust. She looked shattered, like a lone soul who had barely survived a battlefield.
Just then, her assistant, Xiaoru, rushed forward, grabbed Jiang Wendu’s right hand, and tried to pull her to the side.
Yi Lan’s eyes and hands were quick. She grabbed Jiang Wendu’s left wrist and squeezed tightly. Jiang Wendu let out a shriek of pain. Xiaoru instinctively let go, and Jiang Wendu was pulled over, colliding with Yi Lan’s shoulder.
A faint smell of blood filled the air. She looked up at the person in front of her. “The blood… it’s… real…”
As soon as Jiang Wendu said that, the crew members instantly reacted and yelled, “She’s a murderer! Hurry, call the police!”
In the next second, Jiang Wendu felt a weight on her shoulder. The woman in the armor, who had been so full of rage, suddenly passed out.
…
By the time the police arrived, the crew had already securely tied Yi Lan up on a mat. She was still unconscious, her body occasionally twitching. She mumbled things like “A’ting” and “don’t hurt her” in her sleep, her expression full of pain, as if she were having a nightmare she couldn’t bear.
For some reason, Jiang Wendu kept trying to get closer to listen to her babbling.
Her assistant, Xiaoru, stopped her with a loud protest: “Jiang Wendu! You’re already hurt, and you still dare to go closer!”
Xiaoru had been with Jiang Wendu for years and cared for her meticulously. Their relationship was long past that of a boss and a subordinate.
At her reminder, the onlookers couldn’t help but gasp. “Yeah, that was so dangerous just now! Who knows who she is? She even dared to kick the director!”
The director who had been kicked didn’t seem to have recovered. He was holding his stomach and talking to the police. “I don’t know what happened. She just burst in. We were filming the final scene and were about to wrap up.”
The police officer took notes with his body camera and then went over to check on Yi Lan.
Yi Lan was still unconscious, with large beads of sweat rolling down her forehead. Her whole body trembled, and she had bitten her dry lips, leaving a trail of blood.
Jiang Wendu couldn’t bear to watch any longer. She slowly knelt down and reached out to touch her body, softly comforting her: “It’s okay, it’s okay. Don’t be nervous!”
“Jiang Wendu!” the assistant called out again.
Jiang Wendu turned her head, looked at her, and gave a comforting smile. “It’s okay, Xiaoru. Look, she’s all tied up. She can’t hurt me!”
At that moment, the woman tied to the ground sat up as if she had come back to life, her eyes wide open as she took in large, gasping breaths. Jiang Wendu was so startled her fingers trembled.
Yi Lan took a long time to recover, and her blurry vision gradually cleared. When she saw Jiang Wendu, still alive and wearing the bloodied white clothes, her anxiety eased slightly. But soon, her confused eyes were replaced with hatred, and she bared her teeth and went crazy at Jiang Wendu: “You!”
Xiaoru quickly pulled Jiang Wendu to the side. Yi Lan didn’t have much strength left in her body, but her emotions had reached a point where she couldn’t control them.
The police officer saw this and took out a device, scanning her face. A string of identity information quickly appeared on the screen. He signaled to the officer next to him: “Call the department’s information bureau and check the recent movements of Yi Lan, a psychiatric patient from Yunshan Sanatorium.”
“A psychiatric patient?” An onlooker couldn’t help but say, “No wonder she’s so crazy, stabbing people with a spear!”
“But how did she get through the set’s tight security?” someone else asked.
As soon as he finished asking, the police officer’s walkie-talkie went off. “Captain Lu, Captain Lu, we have an eyewitness who confirmed that the suspect stole a horse from the adjacent ancient drama set and rode all the way to this set.”
“Okay, got it.”
After their conversation, the information bureau called again.
“Captain Lu, the information bureau has confirmed that Yi Lan, the psychiatric patient from Yunshan Sanatorium, rode a shared bicycle toward Raven City at 3:47 p.m. yesterday. At 12:36 p.m. today, the bicycle’s ride ended near the Raven City Film and Television Studio, but the user who scanned it was a female university student named Zhang Nan.”
Captain Lu: “Call and verify with this university student named Zhang Nan.”
“We already have, Captain Lu. Zhang Nan said that after she rode the shared bicycle, she forgot to lock it. When she was ordering takeout, she noticed a strange fee. She called the platform, and the platform refunded the extra money. We have already obtained the relevant customer service and inquiry records, and the information is correct.”
Captain Lu: “Alright, then there’s no mistake. Call Yunshan Sanatorium and verify Yi Lan’s recent mental state and whether she’s had any exposure to films starring Jiang Wendu.”
“Okay!”
The efficiency of the police force was truly high. Using facial recognition and a few phone calls, they quickly figured out the entire situation. However, to be safe, they still needed to conduct a further investigation.
Captain Lu directed the other officers: “Take her back to the station.”
Then, he turned to Jiang Wendu: “And we’d appreciate it if you, Ms. Jiang, would come to the station with us to cooperate with the investigation.”
