After Escaping My Paranoid Wife's Control - Chapter 4
Stuck in a traffic jam on the Second Ring Road, Song Yu looked at the word “Madman” flashing on her phone screen. She raised an eyebrow slightly and swiped to answer.
Ji Minghui’s voice was gentle. “Didn’t you say you were tired?”
“Why did you drive out again?”
She showed her considerate concern for Song Yu. “The temperature is low at night, it’s easy to catch a cold. Don’t stay out playing too late.”
Song Yu didn’t say a word.
Back then, she had been deceived by Ji Minghui’s gentle and considerate facade, stepping bit by bit into the golden cage Ji Minghui had meticulously built for her.
Who would have known that Ji Minghui wasn’t as gentle and harmless as she appeared?
When they were together, Ji Minghui was nothing short of a paranoid, twisted madman with an extreme desire for control.
“Wife, why are you ignoring me again?” There was a hint of a smile in Ji Minghui’s voice, it sounded like she was acting spoiled, but in reality, she was expressing her dissatisfaction. “You sneaked out in the middle of the night to see DJ Meiling’s performance, and I’m not even angry with you, yet you’ve gone and gotten angry with me first.”
Song Yu was stunned for a moment. “What DJ Meiling?”
“Who is DJ Meiling?”
Ji Minghui asked in confusion, “You’re stuck on the Second Ring Road in the middle of the night, wasn’t it to see DJ Meiling’s performance?”
Song Yu said, “I don’t even know who DJ Meiling is.”
She frowned and asked back, “Why on earth would you think I was going to a DJ Meiling show?”
Ji Minghui and Song Yu had been together for 11 years; she understood Song Yu’s personality perfectly. If Song Yu felt even a tiny bit of guilt toward her, her tone wouldn’t be this righteous when questioning her back.
It seemed she had misunderstood Song Yu.
“DJ Meiling is performing at Wander Bar tonight.”
Ji Minghui told Song Yu, “It’s because she has so many fans that the Second Ring Road is backed up like this in the middle of the night.”
She seized the opportunity to complain: “You’ve been staying up late lately watching influencer livestreams. I thought you were a fan of DJ Meiling too, so…”
Song Yu interrupted Ji Minghui, “I watch game streams, not ‘pretty girl’ streams.”
Song Yu took a deep breath, her anger surging straight to her head.
In the past, Ji Minghui kept her under a tight leash and checked her phone constantly. Who she messaged, who she called, what brand of clothes she bought, how many rounds of games she played a day…
Ji Minghui knew everything like the back of her hand.
Now, look at this. Ji Minghui didn’t even know whether she was scrolling through game streams or “pretty girl” streams before bed every night.
Hearing this, Ji Minghui blinked guiltily.
Over the past six months, she had indeed put a significant amount of focus into her work for those few international merger and acquisition projects.
But she worked overtime every day just to make more money and provide Song Yu with better living conditions.
Could it be that the reason Song Yu had been giving her the cold shoulder these past few days was because of this?
Thinking she was too busy lately?
That couldn’t be right.
No matter how busy she was, she would still carve out a few hours every day to spend with Song Yu.
And they went on dates every week, went camping every month, and went on vacation every year…
Feeling guilty, Ji Minghui was eager to win back a point, so she blurted out, “You always order ‘play companions’ when you play games.”
Sometimes she’d order three for a single match.
“I order ‘skill based’ companions,” Song Yu told Ji Minghui. “The kind that protects my ‘dog life’ and carries me into the final circle.”
She emphasized: “Not ‘entertainment’ companions!”
Ji Minghui blinked.
Finished.
It was all because she was too desperate to win back a point.
Now, not only had she failed to win one back, she had lost two rounds in a row.
“Then what are you doing out in the middle of the night?” Ji Minghui very cleverly shifted the topic.
Song Yu told Ji Minghui, “I’m leaving you. I’m escaping to a place where you can’t find me.”
“So you can never control me again.”
As it turned out, her luck was bad. She happened to run into DJ Meiling’s performance tonight, so her escape failed.
Ji Minghui was surprised. “Huh?”
“Stop playing dumb.” Song Yu suppressed her anger.
She said bluntly to Ji Minghui: “I don’t love you.”
“I don’t want to be with you at all.”
Ji Minghui finally understood the situation.
Song Yu was running away from home again.
“You don’t love me?” Ji Minghui gave a cold laugh.
“Song Yu, how could you possibly not love me?”
She questioned: “If you don’t love me, how did you manage to ‘work’ on me for 6 hours in one night?”
This single question immediately extinguished Song Yu’s fire.
She raised a hand to scratch her nose. “That time…”
“That time was because I was drunk.”
“Heh.” Ji Minghui gave another cold laugh.
“Fine.”
“That time you were drunk.”
She raised an eyebrow and asked, “Then when you’re not drunk, how many hours a night do you ‘work’ on me?”
Song Yu: “…5 hours.”
