Chapter 6: “Are You Seducing Me Again?”
Nonsense. Who was a “paper tiger at home”?
Sheng Ruxi simply had her upbringing; she wouldn’t slap someone in front of a crowd because it was undignified and would spark gossip. She was a rose in full bloom, but she wouldn’t let herself be trampled. This seemingly fragile flower, once angered, could turn the dew on her petals into weapons.
Besides, hadn’t Jian Jixing stepped up precisely because of that one look she gave her?
The pressure on her earlobe wasn’t heavy; it was gentle, almost like flirting, carrying a hint of a tingle. But the moment Jian Jixing spoke, Sheng Ruxi’s rebellious streak flared up.
She pulled the towel down, wrapping it loosely around her head to reveal her face. She knew exactly which pose and expression looked best, especially in front of a crowd. But the moment her face was revealed, Jian Jixing’s lazy expression shifted instantly.
Jian Jixing’s brow furrowed, her face twisting as if she were about to gag. She pressed her lips together, and Sheng Ruxi reacted immediately, jumping back.
Jian Jixing was going to puke!
The entire staff froze. Are they serious? Does Director Jian hate Sheng Ruxi so much that looking at her for too long makes her nauseous? How can an Alpha in this world hate that face?
Behind Jian Jixing, Meng Zhao approached. The wine on her clothes hadn’t been wiped clean, emitting a scent even more pungent than before. Her pheromones were red-wine scented; mixing just a hint of them into the liquid on her skin… wouldn’t it be fragrant? Wouldn’t it be tempting?
The industry said working with Jian Jixing was the cleanest deal—she was stoic and professional, never engaging in “unspoken rules.” Despite the high intensity of the set, she never leaked her scent. Many Omegas had tried to lure her, but none succeeded. Rumor had it she was frigid, but Meng Zhao didn’t believe it.
Meng Zhao intentionally released her pheromones, targeting Jian Jixing.
To Jian Jixing, this wasn’t an “alluring invitation”—it was an assault. A surge of nausea hit her brain. She felt no sweetness, only a churning stomach and a burning sensation spreading from her scent gland to her nerves.
When attacked, an Alpha’s personality turns sharp. Whether they remain rational depends entirely on willpower. Right now, Jian Jixing didn’t want to endure. Her face turned icy. It stinks. Once she finished vomiting, she was going to—
Fortunately, she had enough sense to push Sheng Ruxi away first.
A white blur flew toward her. Jian Jixing reflexively caught it; the soft towel covered her nose and mouth. Immediately, a warm scent of oatmeal mixed in, quietly dispersing the disgusting pheromones.
It was Sheng Ruxi’s scent.
Sheng Ruxi had tossed her towel to her, her expression defiant. “Who wants your towel? Get it away from me.”
However, Jian Jixing’s lips parted slightly as she looked back. Meng Zhao stumbled back in terror. What had she just seen? Jian Jixing’s… canines? It didn’t look like she wanted to mark her—it looked like she wanted to kill her.
It was said Jian Jixing loathed Omegas releasing pheromones in front of her, but no one had described the consequences. Meng Zhao’s back was drenched in cold sweat.
Jian Jixing turned back, grabbed Sheng Ruxi’s wrist, and dragged her away from the set. Still using the towel to filter the air, she hurried to Sheng Ruxi’s trailer.
Sheng Ruxi shook her off. “If you’re going to puke, do it now. Don’t do it in my car.”
Jian Jixing huffed. Her regained rationality was nearly lost again to Sheng Ruxi’s attitude. “Ungrateful.”
She dropped the towel. The wine scent had soaked in, but she couldn’t smell it at all—only oatmeal and a hint of milk. Clearly, Sheng Ruxi had released her own pheromones to mask the mess. This girl’s mouth was a weapon, but her actions were something else.
“So you admit you came here on purpose to stand up for me?” Sheng Ruxi pouted, her eyes sparkling. “Are you trying to coax me?”
Looking at that massive truck of coffee and desserts, it was obvious she was here for a visit. Doing it without a word… Sheng Ruxi knew this was Jian Jixing’s signal of backing down. She still needed her. Today was Saturday. Jian Jixing’s Susceptible Period was here.
“Say it,” Sheng Ruxi lowered her voice, sounding part-coquettish, part-teasing. She poked Jian Jixing’s chest. “Why are you here today?”
Sheng Ruxi was determined to make Jian Jixing admit she wanted to mark her. During her Susceptible Period, Jian Jixing was a different person. A gentleman outside, a beast in bed. Usually, she was so “frigid” that Sheng Ruxi joked she was impotent. Now, just thinking of that word made Sheng Ruxi’s waist ache.
Jian Jixing felt her composure slipping. The spot where Sheng Ruxi poked her felt numb. “If I hadn’t come to see for myself, I wouldn’t have known you could let yourself be bullied like this,” Jian Jixing said, steadying her breath. “Meng Zhao sent me an audition video—it was a clip of that scene just now.”
Meng Zhao had likely sent it to stir trouble, knowing the history between the two.
“Who’s being bullied? Even if you didn’t come to back me up, I had my ways,” Sheng Ruxi retorted. Would it kill her to say she came just for me? The cool air from the trailer wafted out, but they were standing in the sun. Sheng Ruxi’s skin looked like translucent glass. Her scent—a hint of sweet berry—drifted on the breeze.
“I know you can’t hold back anymore,” Sheng Ruxi said smugly. “Why didn’t you just have a better attitude earlier? Rushing here to back me up… aren’t you afraid of being scolded online for being so ‘harsh’?”
Jian Jixing laughed. “I’m not here to pick you up. Just visiting the set. I’m not in a hurry.”
“Liar.” Sheng Ruxi tilted her head, her scent gland peeking through her hair. “You were very harsh to Meng Zhao. I know your personality; I’ll just take those as ‘sweet nothings’ meant for me.”
Jian Jixing smiled again. “Since when is the truth called ‘sweet nothings’? Your standards are too low. Aren’t you afraid of being tricked away by someone’s lies later?”
Sheng Ruxi’s face fell. Her expectation turned to annoyance. After a pause, she spat out: “Shrew!”
“I’ll take that as a compliment. It must be hard for you, being married to a shrew,” Jian Jixing said casually, having fully recovered. She stepped back to leave.
Sheng Ruxi stomped her foot. “Don’t go! Jian Jixing, I hate you! I am absolutely not coming back tonight…”
Jian Jixing turned back. Her tone softened, playing the part of the magnanimous one. “Did you forget? Chu Wu has her livestream tonight. Isn’t it better to watch at home? She invited me to do a live Q&A with her. It’s a rare opportunity.”
Jian Jixing’s voice dropped, seductive and low. “Come back. I’ll give that opportunity to you.”
…
By the time Sheng Ruxi finished work, it was evening. In the van, her assistant Tuanzi was about to ask for the destination, but Sheng Ruxi spoke first: “Cancel all future collaborations with Meng Zhao.”
“Director Jian already told Sister Mei. Meng Zhao’s role in Director Zhang’s next project was also canceled today,” Tuanzi replied.
Sheng Ruxi blinked. “When?” “Sister Mei said Director Jian gave the order before she even arrived at the set.”
Before she arrived… Jian Jixing had pulled the plug on Meng Zhao’s resources the moment she saw the audition clip. She had spent the whole day teasing her, but behind the scenes, she had been ruthlessly cleaning up the mess.
“Director Jian didn’t stop there,” Tuanzi giggled. “Everyone thought she was there for Meng Zhao, but she specifically spoke to Director Zhang before leaving. By the time they walked out, Meng Zhao’s role was gone.”
Sheng Ruxi went quiet. “Sister Xi, where are we going?” Tuanzi asked.
Sheng Ruxi looked down, her voice soft. “The villa. Take the shortcut. I want to see the livestream.” It’s for the Q&A opportunity, she told herself, not for Jian Jixing.
…
Jian Jixing sat in the study, the large screen ready to sync with her phone for the livestream. The house was quiet without Sheng Ruxi. Soon, she heard the front door.
She closed her eyes, feeling her heart race with excitement.
Slide—
Sheng Ruxi opened the study door. Jian Jixing opened her eyes to see the beautiful, surprised face. The room was thick with Alpha pheromones.
The study was decorated in a traditional, solemn Chinese style, but Jian Jixing was sitting loosely in a wooden chair, radiating an ambiguous signal. Such a high concentration of pheromones triggered Sheng Ruxi’s own internal heat almost instantly.
“You… are you seducing me again?”
“I’m just giving you a good chance to see Chu Wu,” Jian Jixing stood up, her gaze locking onto Sheng Ruxi. The oppressive Alpha aura grew heavier. “Why? Don’t you want to watch?”
“I came back specifically to see Wu-wu!” Sheng Ruxi walked toward the desk.
As she reached it, the livestream started. Simultaneously, Jian Jixing leaned over her from behind, her hands on the desk, effectively trapping Sheng Ruxi in her arms.
Warm breath brushed against Sheng Ruxi’s ear. Jian Jixing whispered: “Then watch. Like this.”
